[Q] Screen crack and bleed - HTC Sensation XL

Hello
As you can tell I'm a noob so be gentle
My son dropped his sensation xl beats and cracked the screen and now he has a black bleed which I presume means the LCD is also stuffed. Thought I was fine as its insured but surprise surprise I called the ins company and told them what happened and they won't pay out as he is 15. No one mentioned the age when I insured it so that will teach me not to read the small print:crying:
When he first smashed the screen I ordered a digitiser on eBay as was going to change it myself after looking at tutorial but now I see the bleed I think it's a whole LCD job. What do you guys and gals think?
I've looked at screen repairs and its well over £100. The phones still under a year old and has been back to htc twice due to lock button and case issues and they still failed to complete it properly the first time but this obviously a user error so can't even go there.
Any suggestions please?

Ohh crayky!!! To be honest with u mate u basically said what lots of us would suggest u. It's Very nasty what the company said really, would be fuman mate. I think I personally would not bother as u could mess up more while ur trying to replace the LCD part too. If u got money to pay that much money to repair, u could easily save some more pennies and get a second hand on ebay as the praces of our XL getting cheaper when u wana buy them second hand!

Thanks for reply. The xl's are going for about £150 on eBay so would probably repair. Can you just confirm that if I can see a black bleed its more than just a digitiser/glass?

Does the phone powers up? I'm not technician myself but I think if it does that means black bleed is more then just a digitiser. By the way did they actually gone down to £150!!? That's really crazy cos I actually believe our lovely XL are worth more then that!! Good luck mate.

Have you checked your house content insurance to see if you are covered for accidental damage?

Yep just called them and awaiting a call back but have checked and I do have accidental cover with a £150 excess
Not having much luck but hey ho!
HTC say they cant give me a quote unitl they look at it but I am looking £100 + but it's looking like its worth it as I have over a year apparently to run on warranty. I thought it was 12 months but its 24 months warranty so if they replace the screen :crying: it bring it back under warranty:good:

well ongoing saga the home ins have a £150 excess and they will on repair with a non HTC repairer so this will invalidate the warranty so I will have to book it in to HTC

replacement screen and case?

Hey, I'm curious to know if anyone knows where to get replacement parts for the leo. I recently fell down a flight of stair and destroyed everything to do with my leo's outsides. The screen is trashed, and the case it bent. So, I need to replace it all. Any information would be greatly appreciate.
Thanks in advance.

When in doubt, contact HTC (And doubt some more)
It's been a few days since I first started this thread. Lots of views but no replies. So... I wrote HTC about it (on their website) and their response was quite unbelievably stupid.
I mentioned that I live in China, and that I'd like to know how I could have it repaired. I put in the serial number as well. They replied by telling me that my phone was sold in France and that I should go back to France to get it repaired, otherwise I can go to Hong Kong or Taiwan to get it repaired.
I am really curious what kind of person would write such a silly reply. As though plane tickets cost the same as cab rides, and the flight is only a hop and a skip away.
I've written them back and clarified the kind of help I am looking for (An address to send my phone to, and a quote for parts and labour) here's hoping they don't misinterpret it again and send me more bs.
Not much point to my writing this other than to say, if you need to contact HTC with a similar query, assume you're writing to an idiot and be as absolutely clear as you can. You may even want to suggest to them what is common sense, and not assume that they're going to think of the most reasonable method themselves.

Hi,
Sorry to hear of your accident.
If your phone is that badly damaged why don't you just claim off your phone or house insurance and get a new one? Sounds like this is much less hassle than trying to get it repaired.
I am assuming you have some form of insurance for the phone?

Or send it to HTC repair. I heard it will cost like €150 to repair.
Have a nearly same question.
My HD2 screen one day have a big black dot at the center. I give my HD2 to the local HTC service, they answer me that, they cannot give me a warranty because it's broken by pressing from outside into a screen.
So, if replace a screen will cost about 230USD.
I take my HD2, come home, search on eBay for the screen replacement. It cost only 80USD. Maybe it's a solution for you too.
Hi,
where did you get the replacement screen for $80?
Thanks.

I've had the same problem too a couple of times. Fortunately both times the dot disappeared after pressing the screen gently in various places. What's disturbing, though, is that I've had the phone for a week only and gone to great lengths to ensure it has not been under any physical pressure (or psychological, for that matter ). Have anyone else noticed this; is this a weakness with the phone or have I just been unlucky?
u should take it to htc service !
I've just dropped mine and accidentally closed a door on it, so now mine is full of scratches too.
I'll take it back to the service center in Taiwan when I get back there, though rather annoyingly that won't be until March at the earliest If the HK service center can do it though, I can drop it in there in Feb ... I wonder if their pricing will be the same ...
Hey guys I dropped my HD2 too and the screen cracked. I noticed that there are repair kits at around 80 USD. Anyone has any video or tutorial on how to replace the screen with the repair kit? Or has anyone self-repaired the screen successfully?
I'll have the chance to either get a new HD2 (and sell the broken one), the Hero or perhaps the Nexus One so I want to see if it is possible to do a cheap fix and get a new toy.

[Q] Cracked screen :(

Hello all.
I've been around the forums for awhile (just used the search functions for my previous issues) but seem to have no luck with this one. Well, anyway.. A few days ago I dropped my Vivid from about 2 feet and yeaaah it's absolutely shattered all the way. What are my options? I'm tech saavy so I think I could replace it; however, with the phone being so new I can't seem to find a disassemble tutorial for it. Ive found the screens on a website and on eBay but they seem to say HTC on the top instead of AT&T (because I would reeeeally like to return this and get the skyrocket) so... Does anyone know of a disassembly guide for it? Orrrr... Can I get HTC to repair it?
Also, I found someone local that said he would do it for $120.. But I'd have to pay him upfront since the screen is so pricey.. But that just seems very odd to me since he's working out of his house... Hmm

There is for the digitizer glass. dunno where to get a new LCD though.. Sorry dude.
Isn't that all I need though? The phone works fine.. The glass is just shattered
well there ya go.. if the LCD is not damaged that is all you need..
Okay, cool. Do you know of any online tutorial to install it? Im pretty sure I can do it but I don't want to totally screw it up lol
This might help you.. Remember Google is your best friend. http://www.firstpost.com/topic/organization/htc-corporation-htc-sensation-glass-digitizer-replacement-repair-hd-complete-video-5ImE5hUXK8s-37569-5.html
It's not the vivid but should provide some insight.
Yeah, I was googling and youtubing vids but I didn't know which other HTC would be similar design to the vivid, well, besides the raider.
You could get insurance from your phone from AT&T (as long as it's within 30 days of when you bought it). I decided to get insurance for my Vivid, and they didn't even ask to look at my phone. So add the insurance to your plan, then put in a claim a little bit later (prolly not immediately after).
I already tried that route. It's a $199 deductible on the vivid... Which is absolutely ridiculous.
Could pay the deductible but tell them you lost the phone. Yeah the IMEI will be blacklisted but you will have a test device for root and S-OFF. Also you can sell the removable parts from it too or keep them for spare.
This one fell about three feet onto the corner with the search button not even a week after receiving...

^EXACTLY what mine looks like what are you going to do about it
..I actually found a HTC raider tear down on YouTube; however, the little "void" circle by the battery is a screw so I reaaaally don't want to void my warranty. So, I'll probably just pay the $199
I called for replacement told em it was lost payed 200 wanting to find a Dec. That would be interested hacking that doesn't have the vivid yet but not sure how to go about it..

I just cracked mine also. Obviously no gorilla glass!! I have insurance and called to get it replaced, the deductible was $199 which is higher than you can buy the phone for. I called back into 611 and raised Hel_ with the AT&T Rep because the insurance company is apparently a third party. Dropped the insurance, it is not worth it and she will send me a new phone for $50 after I stated I would go to Verizon for an Apple! Now I can get the glass replaced and Gazelle will give me $300 for the repaired phone!
Ha! my vivid got ran over by a Thunderbird on Christmas eve...and lived to tell the tail! Lol I was super surprised to see only one lil nick from a rock that made it through the zagg screen gaurd..and the screen now has a unique blue "ghost cloud" in the top left corner of the screen the screen also has a few tiny chips in the bottom left corner and along the sides but u can't see them under the case I have which also saved the phone from being crushed! O and it was laying screen up if that matters at all.

My 2 Cents
IMHO this may be one instance where thr HTC phones being built with more solid materials actually works against us, the phone being much heavier hits with greater force and possibly is more prone to damage.. I may be wrong but it's my opionion (I always get a decent case to provide at least basic impact protection) I like the Platinum cases sold at BestBuy (good belt clip & protection once you learn the trick of unlatching the case parts)
Best of Luck, sorry this really does not help you after the fact.
Cheers

This is one of the sites that sells digitizers & the SLCD
http://www.repairsuniverse.com/htc-vivid-screen-replacements-repair-parts.html
Some other sites sell Digitizers and LCD's for the vivid, but to be quite honestly the process is very simple to fix. The only minus is that you'll spend anywhere between $100 to $120 to get it fixed out of pocket...or pay that $199 deductible and realize that carrier insurance is borked.

[Q] Has anyone disassembled their vivid?

If you take the back cover off, there's a void sticker on a round piece of plastic... Covering a screw. Is there anyway to reattach that? I want to replace my cracked screen but don't want to void my warranty

Use an exacto knife and a still hand. To be honest its just a sticker, would you pay more for a insured replacement or save a third of the cost by repairing the screen yourself.

If you use your insurance do it the right way. If you falsify that you lost the phone to asurion they will blacklist your imei for the broken phone in question, if the craigslist buyer wants to activate it on att, they are not gonna be too happy
When you get a replacement phone from asurion, they direct you to a site to tie in your new sim card that they ship to you with the imei of the new phone ( this relinks your new phone to the insurance). Fail to do so they will hit you with a retail charge on your next bill.
If you have the courage to fix it yourself then by all means do, but if you're new to this, but considering the risks.

Regardless, If he wants to take the chance at fixing it himself, he can do so. He would be saving at least half of the cost or more asurion would charge as a premium ( $199)
FYI HTC VIVID Replacement Screen:
http://www.aliexpress.com/fm-store/...-Screen-Replacement-Parts-OEM-Repair-Fix.html
And thats $65 for just the replacement screen.
95% of the people registered on XDA could replace the Vivid screen with no issue and the right tools, and i am probably not exaggerating.
I dont know if you follow the news but Sen. Chuck Schumer ( NY-Democrat ) is very close to striking a change early 2012 as to how Asurion handles claims universally in the US for all insured phones. He supports SOPA unfortunately.
Make sure when you order the replacement screen ,it comes with the double sided tape attached

8125,
That's the LCD, I just need the screen. I'll probably get it off eBay. Yeah, I really don't want to go the fraud route. It's just a ripoff that I have to pay $199 for a new one. But, then again... It's an insurance company. Its their job to rip you off.

[Q] Screen cracked what to do ?

During an eventful week in Ibiza I woke up with a cracked non functioning screen SONY UK want me to send it to SBE LTD as the official service centre but I have heard many negative stories about them and it is highly unlikely they would replace it under warranty anyway I have had a recommendation to use :
http://www.buzz-box.co.uk/
Or is this an easy fix myself if so where do I get an official screen / digitizer from ? How do you successfully reseal the case as I know it is sealed with some sort of adhesive ?

Cracked just like the pics in the thread and it was in my pocket at the time no large knocks of from being dropped .............. meh .
Anyone successfully repaired it themselves or able to recommend a UK repair centre ?
Repair of mine costs 302EUR at local Sony service. There was changed the screen, the frame with sidings and buttons and the battery too (dunno why was it changed). Also had unglued the backplate, we fixed it.
I work as a mobile phone & PC tech in the UK & have to deal with SBE on a regular basis, There not as bad as people make out, Just have to remember that they will only do any work as long as the phone has not been tampered with or had physical/water damage.
If it's a cracked screen my guess is they will tell you to do one or charge you a lot for the job..

I am not looking for it to be done under warranty I am more concerned about them being competent at doing it which I have heard enough bad experiences to put me off plus as you say you deal with them regularly and state they will either tell me to do one or charge me a lot for any work done this does not instill me with any confidence being that I have been quoted £150 quid elsewhere or I can attempt it myself for the cost of parts at £100 .
Has anyone done the procedure themselves ?
Is there a guide and not the you tube disassembly one on you tube as that is not comprehensive enough ?
Any recommendations how to reseal the back plate once done ?

On any other phone I would say try it yourself but if you ever intended on using the water resistant feature of this phone I would suggest paying the extra & getting SBE to do it, that way you are still covered with Sony & and the job will definitely be done correctly

[Q] Is it possible to...

hey guys, I have a really quick Q for u. Is it possible to only replace the Digitizer/Glas on the One? They sell em for really cheap and because my screen still works fine after droping it (hell even the Digitizer still works!) I hoped that i can just replace it. The search doesn't show any result when I type in things like Display Digitizer etc. Did anyone attempted this? I saw some people replacing just the Glass on a Galaxy S4 on YouTube but there are only a few really poor videos on YouTube about the HTC One.

No, don't bother trying. The digitiser/glass is fused/bonded to the LCD and is very, very difficult to separate, so you'd just be wasting your time. Buy the whole LCD/digitiser assembly, and you'll be good

Dude just send it in for repair ... if you try and repair it it's going to cost you a fortune every time you attempt to repair a part you'll destroy 3 others.

it's not a matter of Faith it's just facts .. have you ever separated a digitizer from glass or an lcd ? it's an 11 on a scale of 10 in difficulty
if you tried it 100 times you would get maybe one working one.
and you have one chance to get it right .. good luck
I went to a cellphone repair center yesterday to get an iPhone's digitizer replaced, and I asked one of the guys who worked there if they fixed HTC One's too, and he said "no those phones are on our blacklist, you try to fix one thing you'll end up breaking something else." I think it's best to no try to open up this device. I know how you feel though, you really want to try to fix it on your own, but I can tell you from experience, some devices aren't meant to come apart, let alone put back together properly.
