Fix bootloader without goldcard - HD7 General

Requirement:
-Y Cable
-USB Memory (I used USB adapter and SDcard 8Gb)
1.- If you don't have Y cable you can make it
2.- Test your Y cable
2.1.- Put the USB adapter on your pc to test it, if the windows read the SD card, your cable working!!.
3.- Format the SDCard (FAT32)
4.- Copy the NBH file to USB(I used RUU_Schubert_HTC_Europe_1.54.401.01_Radio_5.51.09. 29_22.32.50.10U_by_ansar)
5.- Rename the file (SPL_signed.nbh --> SCHUIMG.nbh)
6.- Conect the cable with USB adapter (turn off phone)
7.- Put your phone on "usb mode" (Vol Down + Camera botton + Power)
the phone will start read the memory immediately, sometimes the phone don't start on "usb mode", for a few minutes don't happen nothing, after that the phone autorestart and read the sdcard
When the phone upload the SCHUIMG.nbh, you will fix the bootloader and Downgrade after all process used DFT_XSPL_WP7FG1 and change the Rom!

u mean use a sdcard to usb adaptor?

Yes this can work for semi/small bricked devices.
It's basicly the the same process and principal as the goldcard method except that you don't use the goldcard tool and image to turn the SD card into a goldcard.
You should also use your devices specific stock/shipped rom. The rom in the OP is for Europe devices.
You can find out which specific rom you need to use by the last 3 digits of your "Firmware Revision Number" eg, .401 = HTC Europe operator. .531 = TMOUS operator.
If you want you can post back your devices Firmware revision # and I can tell you which rom you need to use.
If you use a device specific Pre-NoDo or NoDo rom and downgrade the devices SPL to at or below 3.xxx you can then install XSPL (RSPL/HSPL) to the device and then flash a custom rom of your choice.
There's the goldcard tutorial here, which also will repair semi/small bricked devices too and it has the links to the stock/shipped roms.

Oh ok.. Well when your ready and if you need help just let me know.
.728 = HTC Asia SEA operator.
So you can use this rom to extract the ruu_signed.nbh file and rename it to SCHUIMG.nhb for the Y cable method or goldcard method.

u dont need to downgrade to NODO or any earlier version but however take care not to unkowingly update yr bootloader by flashing a stock rom
This happens if u update yr phone in zune or flash a stock rom that comes with the bootloader inside it
because zune updates come with bootloader
Updated bootloaders will lock yr phone and prevent u from flashing custom roms

It won't start anymore! Help!

I just have this phone, the SPV M700 for a few days. With the Orane brand on it. I also have the SPV M500 (Magician) with big-storage rom on it. So I thought I would know how to do this, but apparently I dont?
I want to update and want to remove the CID and Sim-lock. But first things first, so I want to run Hard-SPL.
So I have downloaded the Hard-SPL file and run it. When I do this, everything goes like it should till the tri-color screen on my pda. After that I get this error in windows (XP):
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",

En I got this screen on my PDA:
So something goes wrong. I have this also when I try to flash to a Orange rom (I have an Dutch rom on the PDA but I also get this message when try to flash it to an English ROM from Orange. And every other rom) When I put out the battery for 3 sec or just simply do a soft-reset everything seems to work like it did before the I tried flash.
Can someone plz help me, I don't know what to do!
I again got the error with Hard-SPL but someone said to me he had that to and he just went to the next step. So I did to. This time it seemed to work because progress balk was going until 22%. Then it stopped. I did a repair as it was described in the flashing program and now it doesn't start anymore. It goes until this screen and not further:
I can do a hard reset but it still stucks on the same screen. WHAT NOW??
I first get this screen, and just before the text (M 05 / B 05 / D 1.23) disappears, the text NO GSM comes in the blue-area above the D 1.23
This is there for I think half a second and then I have the screen as in my post above.
I have read that I can try 3 things.

Download the Radio ROM again- you may have had a downlaod glitch in the 1st one. V1.38 is the best one to try.
Download and install the offical HTC WM5 ROM- this should be a full ROM including Radio, so sometimes completes more effectively. If you are brave, you can them retry the WM6 flash!

since bricking a hermes i stopped taking chances doing rom upgrades via usb..
the method that is most reliable ad safe is... via SD card
extract RUU_signed file from the upgrade pack (use winrar) and then copy it to the root of a blank sd (mini or micro etc) and rename to TRINIMG.nbh ..enter bootloader and follow the steps.. its fast and most reliable

I think that trying the first thing is the best? Retrying to install a new Radio Rom. He suggest to use version V1.38. Is this still the best rom to try it with? Or can I better take a newer/older one?
And where can I find these Radio Roms?

If you don't want to install automatically, or for some reason the process doesn't work for you, here are the manual instructions:
Transfer SSPL/SSPL-TRIN.exe to your phone and run it
Tri-color screen will appear
Disable activesync (file -> connection settings -> uncheck "allow USB connections")
Connect your phone to your computer using the USB lead.
Run RUU/ROMUpgradeUtility.exe
Follow the flashing process (Check the "I understand..." and "I completed..." boxes and update!)
Allow your phone to reboot.
Transfer TRIN_Unlock_v1.exe program to your phone and run it
Click the Unlock Button, select unlock option. Select if you want SIM/CID unlock.
Click "Unlock!" and wait until process finishes.
When done, turn off your phone for 10 seconds and reboot after that.

Mobile only goes to bootloader mode.
1. Take Out your battery for like 10 secs and replace it after
2. While holding vol+ and vol- , start your phone and do a hard reset
3. go back in bootloader mode and try to flash the rom your phone came with (operator branded)
error 226 comes when something happens to your partitions (sd card partitions)

About issue:
After running RSPL on MANGO OSPL, you can't flash device via SPL.
Windows Phone 7 OS is still booting and working.
Instead of full SPL screen you will see only one the first line:
You device will be "HALF BRICKED", because you can use OS, but can't flash anything else.

At the current moment it's IMPOSSIBLE to recover such devices. And I am not sure it will be ever possible.
What you must NOT do:
Before running RSPL wizard check your SPL screen.
There current SPL version at top: "X.Y.Z 2250 "
When wizard asks you to choose your current SPL version, be sure it's present inside versions list.
If your current SPL version doesn't present in the list, you can choose nearest version, BUT ONLY IF IT HAS SAME FIRST NUMBER!!
Example: You have 4.XX on the device. Do NOT choose 1.XX 2.XX 3.XX.
Generally it means that you must NOT run RSPL wizard after MANGO RUU ROM installation. You must flash older version (with 7004 or NoDo) and then run RSPL.
Installed OS version doesn't important. Only SPL version important.

Yeah, Sorry guys, but you absolutely HAVE to downgrade to WP 7.0/NoDo. You cannot install RSPL/HSPL while you use a MANGO rom. At all. No exceptions. You'll end up with a working, but non update-able device.
So to future SPL installers, DOWNGRADE YOUR MANGO DEVICE TO NoDo FIRST!

The only solution is to repair bootloader via JTAG method! The warranty does not apply!

Thanks, but I'd rather go to the Gold Card method. I have read most of the forum and have not found solution to this failure.
What exactly did you downgrade? You tried flashing HSPL with the 5.10 bootloader. It is plastered all over these forums and is also included as a warning to not flash if you have this bootloader or higher in most of the flashing tools available...Unless I'm missing something, the guide you're referencing is how to downgrade your phone to a lower bootloader version to allow you to flash custom roms to your phone without problems... Since your bootloader version is 5.10, what exactly are you talking about when you say you "made the downgrade tutorial correctly following the Ansar" ??? If you followed the downgrade tutorial correctly then your bootloader should not show up as version 5.10...
U flashed HSPL on 5.10 bootloader. Doing so will brick it
THe DFT tool warned u not to do it.
Thanks for the backup.
Hello, you have a half brick and can fix it by the Goldcard method.
The JTAG is used when a brick is complete, ie, the display of four colors only the color red will be written as "PD 29100 SS-BC (4K)" only.

GoldCard is incredibly simple. So much so, that I made two videos - one instructing how to make a home-made USB-Y cable and the other demonstrating the GoldCard method. I was very much afraid of doing such a thing until I was forced into it. It turns out to be significantly easier than text-based descriptions let on.
You should not fear the GoldCard (all-in-all, it cost me $11 and about an hour). What you should fear is JTAG. In every situation, JTAG is the "horror movie" of hardware mods. You get scared by unexpected things around every corner and occasionally, loud, frightening noises will grace you with their presence.
May I ask why you want to avoid GoldCard?

I also agree, that using the home made usb-y cable is very, very easy. I had exactly the same problem as the opening poster, i actually bought the phone with it half bricked. After making the cable and flashing a shipped rom i was then able to downgrade and am now on a Deepshining custom rom.

Good morning, I made the downgrade tutorial correctly following the Ansar.
But when you install the HSPL, and now I got an error when I activate the Bootloader, I have no available USB MODE / SERIAL.
The phone is working properly. My current version is 7720.68 and the boot loader: 5.10.225.0 Is there a different solution to the Gold Card? thank you very much
I am preparing a tutorial with pictures step by step from the jailbreak downgrade to end and I was in this error.
If I can help, I promise to raise them the tutorial.
This night when Spain, I'll upload the tutorial step by step with pictures that complements this:

[Q] HTC HD7 Unlock and Install Custom ROMS help?!

Truly i'm a complete NOOB at rooting and installing custom roms. The HD7 has been a pain in the A$$ to root, let alone just downgrade the boot loader. If anyone could help at all it would be very much appreciated. Thanks!
Hi Bobsteriffic and welcome to XDA!
I'd be more than happy to help you unlock your device and flash a custom rom.
First post your devices info. Go to - Settings - About - More, and post the devices Bootloader version and Firmware Revision Number.
More than likely if the device is up to date then it's bootloader version is 5.xxx and the easiest method to downgrade the bootloader is the goldcard method.
Thanks for the quick reply!
Heres the specs:
OS version:7.10.8107.79
Firmware revision number: 2250.21.51202.531
Hardware revision number: 0002
Radio software version: 5.71.09.02a_22.51.50.21U
Bootloader version: 5.12.2250.0(135916)
Chip SOC version: 2.2.5.0
Hopefully this helps
Ok... You have a T-Mobile HD7 and up to date with 5.xxx bootloader.
The only methods you can use to downgrade 5.xxx are -
Goldcard method - Requires a Y cable, (either homemade or purchased online) a SD card reader, 1gb - 2gb SD card and you need to download a Pre-NoDo or NoDo rom specific for the device, the goldcard tool and the goldcard image.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1597837
Zune restore point method - Restore the device to a Pre - Mango version through Zune. Meaning that you updated the device from a Pre-Mango state to Mango using Zune and still have the PC that you used to do it on.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1362194
Just follow Shadow's step by step tutorial on downgrading SPL, installing XSPL and flashing a custom rom. It has all the links for the above methods, and Pre-NoDo/NoDo roms and everything that you'll need.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1295068
These are the steps -
1. Downgrade devices SPL to at or below 3.xxx (which is required to install XSPL)
2. Install XSPL = RSPL/HSPL (which is required to install a custom rom)
3. Flash a custom rom of your choice
If you have any problems or questions just let me know!
Okay so i've seen the Y-Cable method and i'm very reluctant to do it as i'm not very good with physical hacks such as that. And as far as the "Zune Backup" method goes, if I don't have a Restore.dat file, is there any way I could just download one from somewhere and use that?
And also, if you could check out this method real quick and give your opinion, it would be much appreciated: http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/HTC_HD7/Radios
You would install the radios and that would downgrade the bootloader.
Thanks for all the help!
Well to basically answer your questions...
Using a different devices restore files won't work. Each devices has its own set of keys and would give an error while trying to restore.
The radio rom would work on a device that's bootloader version is 4.xxx or lower but not on a 5.xxx bootloader.
As far as the goldcard method goes, it's actually really easy. You can even buy a Y cable from Amazon really cheap. The process for using the goldcard method is much simpler than it sounds and I can walk you through the whole process if you want.
Yea I looked into the goldcard method and it does seem fairly easy. Gonna check around the house to see if I already have a Y-Cable. If not then i'll buy one on amazon
If you have the female USB cables and decide to make a Y cable, take a look at this thread it has a good pic of how to connect them together.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1676794
I have a Y-Cable and I'm gonna buy a USB gender changer, but there are no pictures on how to attach them on the gold card post ;_;. Anyway you could provide some pictures? Thanks

Do you mean how to connect everything to the Y cable or how to wire and make the Y cable?

Ok, yeah that's easy..
One female USB end you use to connect the devices charging cable from the device to the Y cable.
The other female USB end you use to connect the SD card reader to the Y cable.
The male USB end you use to connect to a power source. Either the devices wall charger adapter or into a PC.
That's the basic idea, but depends on the Y cable setup that you have.
Take a look at these -

Wonderful. Exactly what I was looking for. Also if you have the resources, if I wanted to make my own "Y-Cable" could you maybe include some pictures of that too?
The best picture I've seen for wiring the Y cable together is the one in this thread -
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1676794
I know I've been asking a lot, but if you could be ever so kind to link me to the products shown in the picture of the phone plugged into the laptop as that seems to be the easiest method I can do. Thanks.
Here you go... Take a look at these -

Yeah buddy... Those should work perfect!
The Y cable will be nice with the micro USB connector for the phone, so you don't have to use the charging cable because sometimes if the cables are too long in length they can cause a problem with transferring the data.
Exactly what I was thinking. So now that I have the cables ordered and on their way, do you think with this whole method that I would be able to flash the "Dynamics 2.0 WP7.8" rom?
Located here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1523991
Absolutely...That's a great rom and I guarantee that you'll love the new 7.8 start screen with customizable tiles, it's awesome!
If you haven't already get the necessary downloads that you need -
1. Goldcard tool
2. Goldcard image
Both from here -
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1597837
3. Pre-NoDo/Nodo rom - I would recommend this rom. I've found that with my T-Mobile HD7 that the radio included in this rom gives me a better signal and somewhat of a better battery life. (even over the most current and up to date 5.71 radio.
http://www.filefactory.com/file/cc8...9.25a_22.45.50.21_Signed_SCHUBERT_RELEASE.exe
Download this rom and extract it (use a program like 7zip, not the Windows zip program) to a new folder (name it like T-Mobile 3.1 rom) on your desktop. Remove the Ruu_signed.nbh file from the rom and put it in a new folder (name it like SCHUIMG.nbh) on the desktop. Right click on the ruu_sighned.nbh file and click "rename", rename the ruu_signed.nbh file to SCHUIMG.nbh (has to be capitalized when renaming)
Put the SD card in the card reader and connect it to the PC, the SD card needs to be formatted to FAT32. Then put the SCHUIMG.nbh file on to the SD card. Click on and run the goldcard tool, click on the "Load GoldCard.img" and select the goldcard.img, then Press "Patch MMC" button.
The SD card will now be a goldcard and will be ready to be connected to the Y cable.
Once the whole downgrade process is done and you ready to flash the custom rom, you also need to connect the device to your PC while it's in bootloader mode. This will install the Qualcomm drivers and allow for the connection/communication from the device to the PC when installing the custom rom.... Otherwise you'll get a error connection 260.
