Android 4.2.1 Update - Nexus 7 General

Nexus 4, 7, 10 start getting Android 4.2.1 update, Google fixes December bug

What?

still waiting in japan.

Please tell me this addresses the battery drain...

Oh no, not again...

The update size varies between the Nexus 10 and the Nexus 4, we assume that different bugs are addressed for each device. It also looks like the Nexus 7 is getting on the update fun as well. There’s talk of improvements to battery life as well as fixes to some Bluetooth glitches.. It’s good to see that Google are releasing such a quick fix for the strange problem, especially when the bug shouldn’t really have been there in the first place.

Funny no mention of n7. Last I checked, we were in the current lineup.

Don't rage about $randomblog not getting something right....

Googling for nakasi jop40d, thus far, shows no-one having put up anything at all that looks like a sideloadable update.

Any word if we can just sideload the JOP40D update from the Nexus 4? It doesn't seem to contain a kernel at all.

It'll come when it comes, probably tomorrow, don't sweat it. It's not going to be the same wait your one x or galaxy s3 have so I ain't worried

Exactly, its great to get updates but this one isn't very significant, mainly as its a fix for the December error that Google made, nothing worth getting excited about.

Please don't talk if you have no understanding of very real issues. The Bluetooth and framework fixes from this release have already shown massive improvements for Nexus 4 users. It isn't just some birthday bug fix.

Woah woah guys. Hold on. This just in:
http://www.engadget.com/2012/11/27/google-hustles-android-4-2-1-onto-nexus-devices/
If it's going to those two devices, it's gotta be coming to the 7 as well soon.

hahah It seems I got trolled

It appears you thought you were a victim of the "boy who cried wolf". Think before jumping into conclusions. Ha..ha..ha....

On topic, it seems its started rolling on N4 and N10 as of now not yet on N7. Apart from December bug, bluetooth issues might get fixed too as is reported by some users in N4 forum.

Nexus 7 has more errors and therefore must do more to coding ...

There's a couple multiuser bugs I'd like to be fixed, like UI rendering issues if another user was/is logged in....

legit?
Well it is April 1st...
looks exactly like if i edited my build.prop to say 4.4.3, rebooted to have the change take affect, started recording a video, boot up, go to about phone and see the 4.4.3. they show no other proof, nor try to.
Google are too busy pi**ing about with pokemon rather than fixing their devices.

Too soon for the next update? You do know that 4.4.3 is an incremental update and not a major one right? We have a few bugs that are long overdue.

Yea, I'm aware. With so many incremental updates in such a short period, it makes more sense for Google to roll these minor fixes with the fix of something that's been inherently broken since the release of the OS like the audio latency issue. We typically get a late spring/summer update, IMO it would be easier to release everything in a bigger update. That's just my opinion, by no means does that make it right.

I'd also rather things be released in one big update but keep in mind that certain things are just unacceptable. Like how data goes in and out. That's the biggest issue I have with my Nexus 5. Other than that I am in no rush for any other bug fixes.
A "phone" should at least be able to make phone calls and receive text without having to toggle Airplane mode on and off.

I think this is bull !
We know 4.4.3 will be coming soon and leaked info to date shows a build of KTUxxx and not the build shown in the screenshot.
I guess we can expect this sort of c*** today.

I don't think its too soon for an update. Having said that, this looks pretty fake. It looks like a custom rom to me and the kernel build date is November 20th.

so how soon till we get some 5.0 love

with my twitter feed blowing up with 5.0 this 5.0 that im kinda wondering when we will get some 5.0 release
Rumors are sometime in December.
Doubt if I'll accept the update.
This is the first android device i bought new. My rooted s4 was used. I got sick of all the glitchyness with the rooted phone. My note 4 is completely stock and I couldnt be happier with how silky smooth touchwiz is. Im not even sure im interested in uograding to lollipop.

Sorry, just wanted to add my .02. I dont think anyone on this forum can accurately answer the op's question.
I'm running Firekat on my Note and it's simply amazing. I am interested in Lollipop but to be honest, I am extremely happy with how my phone is running now.
To answer the OP, I read somewhere that the update would hit around February.

Something on a smaller scale, but just as frustrating back in the day was the whole 4.4 thing where you couldn't go back to 4.3 ... remember that?
5.0 will be the death of Knox since it's built in to 5.0

Have a nice day google

I just bought iPhone 5s and sell my nexus 5 because of google, new lollipop is one big crap, nothing works like should, we got new camera apis but its 2 months after lollipop release and we still dont have new camera. This is a joke !! LTE nexus 7 even doesn't get lollipop ! Shame on you crappy google. Of course I hate ios design but there everything works like should work, no memory problems no battery drains I don't have to reboot my phone every day to work with my phone.
Okay?
Haha brightened my day and made me laugh OP and I wish the best for you

Btw, like your avatar. Hieronymus Bosch, right?
I partly agree with the op google really needs to get its act together on lollipop after promising us the world I don't think it has delivered. That isn't even the biggest issue because a big update like lollipop was bound to have some troubles. But it has been now two months and we haven't got any fixes for the major problems reported and some of them were in the developer preview. Google needs to get the lollipop updates out asap. However I am not willing to dump android over this. I bought a nexus device and expected this.

Help me understand the 5.1 release order

The images are out for I beleive the N5, 2 versions of WiFi N7 the N10.
Wouldn't it make sense for it to come out for the N6/9 first then then N5/7(2013), then the N4/10/7(2012)?
I don't understand the odd release order.
They do it in the order that they want to.

I think it is better this way. google just wants to make sure it works for all the older devices first because they already know it works fine on the nexus 6 and nexus 9. Wasnt there some big issues on the first release for lollipop for these devices?
Considering the Nexus 5 had some massive problems that needed the bug fix, while meanwhile the Nexus 6 is getting NEW, dedicated features, the release order makes perfect sense to me.

I'm not talking issues of Lollipop being unfamiliar. I'm speaking of ACTUAL issues, such as the memory leak. Trust me, as a transitioner from the 5 to the 6, Lollipop runs far better on the 6.

Awesome for you. Would be great if your experience was universal. I loved it, but the memory leak was terrible, and performance was randomly an issue. Again, the Nexus 6 is a much smoother experience overall which is why it's not quite as vital to get it pushed out ASAP.

Heh, an older phone I had, Samsung Relay... lots of people with microphone issues. The solution was to scrape the guck out of the microphone pin hole.
But we do very much notice that the hammerhead is *extremely* sensitive to how you hold it. Sometimes my wife can be talking on it, and I have to interrupt her to tell her to hold the phone different, then I can hear her again.

If it turns out to be true and even if they they just push it to those who oped in for soak test and whatnot and not a full out release in the next few weeks i am happy with Lenovo and this phone. I love what Lenovo did with the phone. I said updates will make or break it and i was scared about that when they said they could not commit to the security patches. But were getting those patches and have a word on the update so far so good. Hope they keep it up. This is the best phone out all around.
I'll still believe it when I see it. Moto has really been sucking badly on updates the last few years.

I agree 100% the funny part is I decided I needed a non samsung device as soon as I saw that lil wayne commercial that had him dumping champagne on the phone. I told coworkers that wanted the Note 7 prior to the release to get this phone instead because Samsung spent far too much for lil wayne for proper research and development, they all made fun of me...until the note started exploding.

Off topic but the issue is simple with the Note 7. I checked this my self. But its not cheap for them and the "Fixed" ones were not fixed and there was no way for them to fix it.
Simple version. The IC samsung chosen to handle the monitoring of the voltage for the battery was the cheapest they could find. That being said they can be way off in terms of calibration. The note 7 i had charged my battery to 4.9v. Phone would read 4.405v but a fluke on the batt reads 4.921v. And that is dangerous. So for all i know they could be charging to 5+ volts and no wounder they are bursting into flames. Issue has nothing to do with the battery and changing it wont do a thing. Its an issue with the ic on the board. And the IC has been used in other things that handle li-ion and li-po related charging and also caused problems on them.
Back on topic.
So we get 7.0 before the end of the year. Im guessing November. So far so good on the updates. But im wondering if they are going 7.0 or just going to jump to 7.1. Chances are no 7.1 that fast but so far the updates have been good. And the moto mod updates have been amazing. I would like to see 7.0 by Nov. 17th. But we prob wont see the roll out start until the end of Nov.

Not that I'm aware of. I've done plenty of soak tests for previous Moto devices and I got invites for soak tests for the camera and projector (which I don't have either), but I never got one for the phone. The update just popped up for me last night.
So far the only Nougat issues I'm having is the fact that my Ambient Moto Display no longer works. Slightly annoying, but it could be worse.

Great that means it's a general release!
Do a hard reset, it's always recommended to do a hard reset after a major update for optimal performance and user experience.
Strike my last statement. I just got it working. I need up just clearing the data for the Moto app and set it up again. Moto Display seems to work perfectly fine now.
