Help me understand the 5.1 release order - Nexus 6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

The images are out for I beleive the N5, 2 versions of WiFi N7 the N10.
Wouldn't it make sense for it to come out for the N6/9 first then then N5/7(2013), then the N4/10/7(2012)?
I don't understand the odd release order.

They do it in the order that they want to.

I think it is better this way. google just wants to make sure it works for all the older devices first because they already know it works fine on the nexus 6 and nexus 9. Wasnt there some big issues on the first release for lollipop for these devices?

Considering the Nexus 5 had some massive problems that needed the bug fix, while meanwhile the Nexus 6 is getting NEW, dedicated features, the release order makes perfect sense to me.

The Nexus 5 is actually very solid on 5.0. A lot of people complain about it only because it is different.

I'm not talking issues of Lollipop being unfamiliar. I'm speaking of ACTUAL issues, such as the memory leak. Trust me, as a transitioner from the 5 to the 6, Lollipop runs far better on the 6.

Actually would make sense for N4 and N7_2013 to come at the same time (could yet...) -- they have the same SoC.

Awesome for you. Would be great if your experience was universal. I loved it, but the memory leak was terrible, and performance was randomly an issue. Again, the Nexus 6 is a much smoother experience overall which is why it's not quite as vital to get it pushed out ASAP.

I've never had this memory leak issue. The only issue lollipop brought to my nexus 5 was even worse microphone issues. I can only get the microphone loud enough with build.prop edits.

Heh, an older phone I had, Samsung Relay... lots of people with microphone issues. The solution was to scrape the guck out of the microphone pin hole.
But we do very much notice that the hammerhead is *extremely* sensitive to how you hold it. Sometimes my wife can be talking on it, and I have to interrupt her to tell her to hold the phone different, then I can hear her again.

Just got my phone today and....

I had no issues reported in previous threads..
-yellow screen? Nope.
-Rattling? - Nope
- Crickling noise with earpiece? Nada
UPDATE: The crickling noise is actually there, but its so damn minimal I can't even hear it from an inch away in the most muted environment. I personally believe it isn't a hardware defect, because since it is a speaker, I would expect a small amount of static noise to slip through. Overall, I can't hear it while I'm on the phone, or when the phone is OFF, so if anything its software that's triggering it.
If you SEARCH for an issue, you will find it
But why bother to, if in the end your just going to complain?
Still pretty damn happy beyond believe with this device. Regardless of the smallest OCD issues reported in this forum.
Just a heads up for people who got confirmation emails last night, and is expecting a phone today! Looks like (well atleast to me) the problems aren't there.. Or maybe I'm just extremely lucky.

all screens have defects. Amoleds, especially the one on the Galaxy Nexus, are more likely to have defects compared to LCDs. i think you were just unlucky with this Nexus.

If I were you, I would loop a video for like half an hour and see whether it improves. I also got similar things on my Xperia S and it's actually fairly common if the LCD is new or it has not been used for a long time. I looped a video with a lot of action and moving scenes for about half an hour and now it's perfect.

Android 4.2.1 Update

Nexus 4, 7, 10 start getting Android 4.2.1 update, Google fixes December bug

The update size varies between the Nexus 10 and the Nexus 4, we assume that different bugs are addressed for each device. It also looks like the Nexus 7 is getting on the update fun as well. There’s talk of improvements to battery life as well as fixes to some Bluetooth glitches.. It’s good to see that Google are releasing such a quick fix for the strange problem, especially when the bug shouldn’t really have been there in the first place.

Don't rage about $randomblog not getting something right....
Googling for nakasi jop40d, thus far, shows no-one having put up anything at all that looks like a sideloadable update.
Any word if we can just sideload the JOP40D update from the Nexus 4? It doesn't seem to contain a kernel at all.

Exactly, its great to get updates but this one isn't very significant, mainly as its a fix for the December error that Google made, nothing worth getting excited about.

im using ART on my 2012 nexus 7 without issue. sure, a few apps donr work on ART(like pandora) but the device seems like it took a dose of speed. its fast without ART, but faster with. ART isnt available on the nexus 7(2012) stock img, but it is available for the nexus 7 on aosp builds.

I know that the reason it is not on here is because of I\O wear out on the flash memory.(Crappy chip)
This device can't handle the strain of ART.
I'm just a little irritated that google won't put it in the DEVELOPER!!!! options in there stock build.

I think an explanation is what we need. Obviously it was a technical issue, but like every technical issue, Google leaves us in the dark and leaves us to speculate. I'd also like to know why we can't get a kernal higher than 3.1 when nvidia actually makes a 3.4 kernal too.

Looking Forward for S6 Update

Just and update on our update...
Looks like we might be expecting it in June for those of you who are patiently waiting everyday sitting by the computer waiting for some news... LOL

I figured we were close after that edge 5.1.1 leak. This is good news but it's sad that even though tmobile is obviously in the testing phase for at least the s6 edge, they don't have it listed for any phase on their update page.

I can't wait, personally. My experience has been abysmal considering the heat this phone is packing, hardware wise. RAM management problems galore. Like if you took my N5 pre-5.1 and turned it up to 11. The most infuriating part is the keyboard getting killed halfway through typing in a search, or having my music stop in the middle of a song.

yeah, this is the worst android experience ive ever had. 5.0.2 on the s6 is terrible. i have never seen such unresponsive clicks, slow loading times, blank start up screens, slow keyboard in all of my prior phones (my m7 is definitely faster than this phone for daily use). I blame google. Not sure how much blame should be placed on TW or T-mo. but its ridiculous.
Did any of you come from 5.0 on the s5? This is a night and difference over the S5. Though I certainly wouldn't complain about my S6 and Moto 360 both seeing 5.1.1 at the same time, right now it is kind of like a race.

If it turns out to be true and even if they they just push it to those who oped in for soak test and whatnot and not a full out release in the next few weeks i am happy with Lenovo and this phone. I love what Lenovo did with the phone. I said updates will make or break it and i was scared about that when they said they could not commit to the security patches. But were getting those patches and have a word on the update so far so good. Hope they keep it up. This is the best phone out all around.

I agree 100% the funny part is I decided I needed a non samsung device as soon as I saw that lil wayne commercial that had him dumping champagne on the phone. I told coworkers that wanted the Note 7 prior to the release to get this phone instead because Samsung spent far too much for lil wayne for proper research and development, they all made fun of me...until the note started exploding.

Off topic but the issue is simple with the Note 7. I checked this my self. But its not cheap for them and the "Fixed" ones were not fixed and there was no way for them to fix it.
Simple version. The IC samsung chosen to handle the monitoring of the voltage for the battery was the cheapest they could find. That being said they can be way off in terms of calibration. The note 7 i had charged my battery to 4.9v. Phone would read 4.405v but a fluke on the batt reads 4.921v. And that is dangerous. So for all i know they could be charging to 5+ volts and no wounder they are bursting into flames. Issue has nothing to do with the battery and changing it wont do a thing. Its an issue with the ic on the board. And the IC has been used in other things that handle li-ion and li-po related charging and also caused problems on them.
Back on topic.
So we get 7.0 before the end of the year. Im guessing November. So far so good on the updates. But im wondering if they are going 7.0 or just going to jump to 7.1. Chances are no 7.1 that fast but so far the updates have been good. And the moto mod updates have been amazing. I would like to see 7.0 by Nov. 17th. But we prob wont see the roll out start until the end of Nov.

Not that I'm aware of. I've done plenty of soak tests for previous Moto devices and I got invites for soak tests for the camera and projector (which I don't have either), but I never got one for the phone. The update just popped up for me last night.
So far the only Nougat issues I'm having is the fact that my Ambient Moto Display no longer works. Slightly annoying, but it could be worse.

Great that means it's a general release!
Do a hard reset, it's always recommended to do a hard reset after a major update for optimal performance and user experience.
Strike my last statement. I just got it working. I need up just clearing the data for the Moto app and set it up again. Moto Display seems to work perfectly fine now.
