Hello everyone! my sgs is having problems with the gingerbread update, first I tried to update through kies but the phone wouldnt connect so I just used odin to flash it as recommended by someone in another forum, anyway now I cant open most of my apps, I cant open the market, I cant root the phone etc. what is wrong? please help, thanks.
How about a factory reset after flashing, to see if it works afterwards?

I did that a couple of days ago but there was no change then. I think its starting to work better now, strangely the market is working fine now all of a sudden, some apps too not all of them, what did I do right?

fw 2.3.3, and I'm not sure what is a bootloader?
Another forum good advice they give . Follow our instructions then ask someone else to fix it .Would not be sure as to proper instructions given .
You can only update via Kies if their is a firmware for your product code on the server .
If it works ok leave it but if not then you would be best to wait for release of Gingerbread or use the flashing Gingerbread methods posted on this forum and reflash .

Hi!
I cant find my Stock ROM.(S5570B).
If i will install other ROM stock, will it brick?
**S5570B,but not my, cause i cant find it(S5570BJJKQ5)
Have you searched for it at androidangel or samfirmware?
Installing another stock rom, as long as it matches pda, phone, csc or just an upgrade e.g. 2.2 to 2.3, should not brick it. Now, flashing CWM from Rom Manager reportedly bricks it. So you should be real careful about it and follow guides already posted.

I will not brick?
Last time i used ROM manger,I have bricked my phone....
Do the update through Kies and rest assured you will not brick it. I updated 2.2 to 2.3 through Kies for a friend's Mini and it was a successful update. It's the safest option you can try.

I hate KIES.
He wont recognize my phone...
I Want to update using this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1255305
Is it safe?
Oh yes, ODIN is perfectly safe as long as you stick to instructions. I used ODIN yesterday just to flash tj_style CWM to my Mini and it was problem-free. Of course, I speak about my experience so just don't put the blame on me if the case something cropped up for whatever reason. But, yes ODIN is a safe bet.
Hi All, I've had this Samsung Galaxy Note for a few weeks now and have read over the rooting posts several times. Firstly I am 2.3.6, I realised I cannot directly root this phone and will need to downgrade, I've found the links with info and stock roms... however what I am not sure about is the specific version.
I really don't want to brick the phone!!!
Baseband Version: N7000XXLA4
Kernel Version: 2.6.35-7-N7000XXLA6-CL907341
[email protected]#2
I did find an LA6 rom but could not find one with the same modem version. Also going back to the old directly rootable roms, there is a huge choice, none of which match what I have so far... so really just wanting to know to work out which one to pick while keeping root and getting to version I have now??
Any help would be gratefully appreciated.
Is there a specific reason for keeping the reason you have?
The reason am asking is because you can use the pre rooted ROMs in this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1535025
And you will end up with a newer ROM and root..
Modem is not an issue, you can flash the type you want and suits you best after accomplishing root..
No I guess not... just all is working well as it is but was just concerned about general compatibility but will give the europe one a go. Thanks
Aztec_Uk,
Did you manage to root your Note ?
I'm on the same build as you and would like to get rid of all my bloat ?

Hi, have to say I haven't worked up the courage to do it yet... I wish I could root and do a backup before playing... but the only way is to either downgrade as in other post or use these pre-rooted roms... this debating what to do... I really don't want to brick it or goto something I cannot roll back, as it works great at the moment but obviously bloatey and no root.....
Take courage!
@Aztec_UK and DblCng, just over a week ago I was where you are. Take heart, if you encounter problems and post them here clearly, there are some really expert and generous XDA members here who will help you. I will even try myself if I see you encountering something I ran into.
I opted for the Chainfire method and in this thread. starting at post #1170 you can read an almost blow-by-blow account of what I encountered and the help I got. Thanks list in post #1220. I didn't expect it to be all plain sailing and it wasn't. I do advise you to make sure you have enough time before you start - in the end it took me most of 3 days (and nights). Another tip I haven't found anywhere (though it's almost certainly here somewhere) is to forward your calls to somewhere else before you start. You don't want people ringing you on the phone when you're in the middle of rooting it.
My Note is now rooted and running just fine, and I'm having a great time zapping bloatware and foiling phone-homers.

Hi syncopath, thanks for replying... seems like a very friendly and helpful place.
I have a work colleague who was also like you and like I am now... then to get proxy support he rooted.... Then he took a while to eventually take the plunge and go for ICS 4.04... It was this week he came into my office and said... I've done it... sat there for 10 mins crossing fingers.
He had a slightly older stock rom on his note, it meant he could do a direct root without flashing and he also was able to do a good backup via root method...
I think the thing holding me back is that fact I can't make that solid back... I have to flash first... believe me I have hacked about with lots of phones and firmwares in my time, HTCs, Blackberrys, Nokia and done a jailbreak on an iPhone 4S... somehow this time around it's taking me longer to work the courage up, I've read a few posts on here.. of people ending up with a brick and no warranty... I just dread this situation... or if something should go wrong later I'd want to un-root so I had warranty... Any advice what any of you guys would do in my situation.. believe me I want root and to try ICS... I am twitchy! - just a bloated stock rom with no root is better than a brick/paper weight!!

I have the same model with LA4 modem and LA6 kernel. Use the XEU file from the pre rooted thread here as posted above, works perfect. The modem in that file is indeed an LA4, but like matius44 says you can flash any modem. For no wipe only flash the PDA file with PC Odin.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1535025
After that you can download mobile odin pro from the market and flash the ICS repack leak. Make sure to select the 3 root options in mobile odin before going to the repack or you will lose your root. The LA4 modem seems fine in ICS, but i did try the newest modem as well.
I followed the instructions for a clean install in the ICStunner thread. Make sure to read down to post #4.Stick with 1.4.19 if you choose stunner. Awsome smooth stable rom.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1552554
It's safe to flash back to that GB pre rooted rom from ICStunner as well.
Go for it, my phone has never been better and ICStunner is amazing.

Hi Kushracer
Your post was well put out and friend, will tick thanks button in a minute... ok, I followed step one.. put into download mode, already downlodeaded the rom you suggested before a few days ago... and PC Odin too... So, I did as you suggested and flashed just the PDA part... crossed fingers, it rebooted and I can confirm thanks to you I am rooted!!!
Before I go for next step I am going to ensure I do backup everything as much as possible and will be trying ICS tomorrow!!!
Your right I feel so much better... that was not that bad... and just the PDA section is replaced the same with Rooted!... Your advice did help me get the confidence to hit the button... Well pleased
Will keep you posted tomorrow on my next step... for me this is enough for the minute, got more time tomorrow so will have a long backup/ICS session then
Thanks
Aztec_UK... now with rooted Note!
Well this time yesterday I had a rooted Samsung Galaxy Note.... Now... not only do I have full Root, I now have CWM, ICS 4.04 and LP6 kernel... phew!! thanks to all for your help
Cool
Sweeeet! Hope you enjoy it as much as me. Just waiting on the official release so I can run a modded version of that now
On another note--- Backup your EFS partition! The stunner thread had the info so I hope you did that just in case.

Yes it's much better nice and fast I have to say. I did also backup EFS and followed the post step by step. I used the CWM and abyss method in the end.

Ok first of all I did follow the part of bodivas reply to me (thanks again!) I used one of the Stock Odex Pre Rooted ROMs..
found here:- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1535025
I chose:- 3*Files No-Wipe N7000XXLA6_N7000OXEULA1_XEU Europe (03/02/2012)
downloaded and flashed via PC Odin... Crossed fingers and it worked, I had FULL root!
Then I Followed part of the second link as:- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1552554 I followed the part about backing up my EFS (highly recommended!!) - that was as far as I went that night..
The following day I spoke to a work collegue... and went a different root to flash ICS.. I downloaded ICS Stunner 1.4.19 then used this method:- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1614443 You must follow it step by step and I had to do a CF-Root to get CWM and then after that flashed Abyss to get RedPill... from there I flashed ICS and LP6 rooted kernel..
However I have noticed I do have root but I cannot write or mouse system for write access... so I have not got full root... I have re-read what to do about this and may need to reflash a different rom, however I already tested re-flashing first link with PC Odin which gives me GB Full root after ICS, so I am gonna play for a bit and retry this later... but you do have a quite safe roll back..
I was scared as hell to do any of this and a few days ago had a stock Samsung and did not want to root or reflash... I think as long as you follow instructions, check other users posts on how they get on, make sure your battery is charged, use a UPS or laptop with good battery (incase of power cut) then you should be ok, but you do take a risk of ending up with a brick, my biggest fear... so far trying to get full root I've re-done this 3 times!
Happy I did and think it's worth it as this rom is nice, thinking of trying 1.4.26 soon...
Hope this helps and good luck...
Same procedure... with ICS 1.26.1 .... now full root! - But nice safe way of trying ICS...... Looks like I gottta get the hang of Mobile Odin....
2 days ago I was scared but now I have the confidence to flash the rom on SGN
thanks for your info, i was very flash happy when on desire z i have flashed almost all the roms. but galaxy note seems slight different, but glad to see at least you get root work, i might just root and remove bloatware first and see how smooth it is, will think about flashing rom later might even just wait for ota ics
Aztec that was good of you but as long as u know how i feel that i have galaxy note and i cant do anything no root no ics can u help me about it by controlin my pc or tellin me what to do i need to root it so bad and i have kernal that doesn't let me root so i have to downgrade thats all the info that i have so if u have anytime free to help me i would be really thankfull because am sure u know how i feel or anyhelp on msn or skype chat that would be great

Hi,
I've just got my P7300 repaired by an official Samsung repairer. I have the feeling, though, that they installed a non-stock firmware on the tablet as I cannot update anymore. When trying to update OTA, I get an error message that suggest using Kies. When I use Kies, I get this message:
"Your device does not support upgrading via Kies"
Before sending it out for repair, I was able to update to Android 3.2. Now I'm stuck with 3.1 and the device performance is really poor. Going through Samsung support, at least here in Italy, is hell and takes forever (like two months...).
Therefore, I would like to flash a stock firmware on this device so as to fix the issue myself. I've read the guide in the forum (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1406137) but I must say I'm quite lost...
I don't understand where to find stock firmware for the P7300 nor do I understand how to flash it... Is Odin the way to go? What if the flashing doesn't work? Will I be able to revert to the crappy firmware I have now?
Sorry for the long post and thanks for any help.

Lost? That guide's as clear as day. Are you sure you read it? Make sure you read carefully, because I do address your issue in the guide in a very short and easy to understand way. Also yes, you need to use ODIN. Read the FAQ and then the How-To. You will find the link to download your preferred firmware (which in fact is mentioned twice) and tools.

So I was trying to root my i9000m and I read a forum post that advised me to update the soft key fw before doing so... little did I know I was on a custom fw already so it broke my soft key functionality. I've read a few posts that have instructions to fix the problem, by rooting the stock fw for the model and updating soft key fw before rooting again. problem is my phone was originally on FROYO and I can't locate the original file anywhere. can anybody point me to a file dl for the stock fw, or maybe someone has the file on their computer they would be willing to share? it's a bit frustrating not having the keys to go back, and i can't use certain apps due to not having a menu key..
If you don't find what you are looking for, try updating to a custom ROM that includes a Navigation Bar, as shown in the attached pic.
What's the ROM in the screenshot?
It's SlimBean 3.1 = Jelly Bean 4.1.2
With this ROM you can have up to 5 soft keys in the Navigation Bar.
This way you could care less about the phone's soft keys.
There are sites such as this one where you can find official Samsung roms
http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/?page=3&model=GT-I9000M&pcode=0&os=1&type=1#firmware
If you did manage to root your phone, you could also try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1832638
Thanks nyloncrack, I didn't know that there were roms that included a nav bar! I will try that, and Marshian I've gotten the firmwares from sammobile but apparently my original firmware for the i9000m (Canada) was 2.2.1, which I have found, but apparently not found the proper version of the rom that came stock with my phone. I believe it was 2.2.1 froyo. I am currently running 2.2.1 froyo.xwjsd which seems to not be the correct version.
There's a thread here with a couple of roms for the I9000m, other than that I'm afraid I can't really be of any use to you. Good luck though!

I got the jl2 rom and reflashed and it worked! I downloaded UGJL2/UGJL2/BMCJL2/Sbl (MultiCSC): reflashed with pda, phone, and csc checked and then updated the touchkey firmware and voila! I got them from the same link you posted, just before you posted it, bang on Marshian!
It was actually really simple once I wrapped my head around it, now I just need to update to a newer, faster custom rom! now let's see if I can't get this rooted and unlocked again without messing it up . any suggestions for a good, bug free rom? I haven't looked into it too much yet but i hear ice cream sandwich and jellybean are recommended for my device?

Good to hear!
I've got the I9001 so I don't really know what kind of roms are available for you, but in my experience for my own phone ICS is currently the best trade-off in features and stability. JB is still quite new and not fully ported yet, while ICS is nearly bug-free. It could be different for your model, that's just my two cents. Either way, as long as you don't brick your phone you could always try out a couple of roms and see what you like best. The only downside is changing a major version requires a full wipe.
I used this to go from gb to ics.
[HOWTO] Flashing CWRecovery to i9000m & upgrade to ICS AOSP 4.x ROM from any version
This way your i9000m becomes a i9000 for searching out new ROMs.
For whichever ROMs (ICS or JB) you'll always need to flash the KG3 modem.

I've tried using that guide before but the JVP link is invalid. i did a quick google search am i just looking for Gingerbread? because I have a file already on my computer titled "CF-Root-XX_OXA_JVP-v3.7-CWM3RFS.tar"
Yes, that will work.
Looking at my notes from back then I actually also used:
CF-Root-XX_OXA_JVT-v4.3-CWM3RFS, and
CF-Root-XX-_OXA_JVU_2.3.6-v4.3-CWM3RFS
They were just later versions of GB.
JVU was Samsung's appeasement to i9000 users when they were told ICS wasn't coming. Had a couple of ICS features; window dressing.
Remember to make a full backup before touching anything this time
I've been trying for hours but I cannot for the life of me get windows to recognize the device in download mode. It was working fine until i updated the rom, then intermittently, then i updated the rom again and it has stopped working. i've uninstalled the drivers, tried with debugging on and off, restarted windows, installed the newest version of kies, bought a new usb cable, to no avail. this is maddening. is there a better alternative to do this on my mac? I'm using a virtual system running windows but I'm positive that isn't the problem, since it was working great before on vmware, and parallels. any ideas? I'm about a half hour away from selling this device and going back to the iphone haha.
so basically my question now is how do I downgrade back to the original firmware, so I can put this nightmare behind me? I had it unlocked and rooted on gingerbread before... don't ask me how it took many many hours. now the device isn't even being recognized in kies. If I don't get this figured out soon i'm flipping this b*tch for an iphone 4, because I do appreciate the one touch jb/unlock. I've literally wasted days of my life trying to figure this out and it doesn't seem to be getting me anywhere. too bad because I really appreciate the android system and all its capabilities but I don't have the time to waste on stuff like this
Another Edit! So, after fussing and fiddling, I decided to try one more time, I swear, I was actually going to give up at this point if it hadn't worked. so basically I removed kies, loaded the driver i was using, which was 1.3.450.0 and it didn't work, so I loaded 1.5.5.0 and it connected! My guess is that after updating the rom the driver was outdated, but I figured kies would give me the most up to date driver, seems it didn't oh well, I'm almost afraid to load ics since I've worked so hard and wasted so much time up to this point, but i've come this far...
one more edit, the kg3 modem kept crashing odin on me so I had to stick with the jl2 that was flashed earlier.. which doesn't give me network access, I'll try to find another file but is there any reason odin should be crashing like that due to this particular file?
hahaha, shouldn't speak too soon, jl2 works after reboot, should I update my modem firmware now, and what is recommended for my system {2.3.4} kernel {2.6.35.7} and if i flash to ics will I need kg3? Thanks for all the help with this seemingly never ending process
