Hello app developers,
After seeing MeeGo video demonstrations on Nokia N9, only feature i miss in my HD2 WP7 Mango is the Double tap on the screen to wake up/unlock.
I accept that the hardware buttons on the HD2 are good, but still this feature and SWkey app/Zmooth (as in android) will eliminate use of hardware buttons.
I did ask that developers should try to build apps for this!
It's cool feature I guess!

I played with the N9 recently, and found it to be very cool and well designed. The best part for me is the double tap to unlock. I wonder whether such thing could be developed for our HD2?
I would think no, since the N9 uses AMOLED which means that the whole screen could be active without using any power, and thus the screen would still be 'active'. Is there a way to do so with HD2? Maybe use the proximity sensor to register movement and turn screen on.
Any opinions?

I dont think such thing would be available. I doubt it.
Even if (somehow) it was available, it would be a huge battery consumer.
people have had enough problems with the phone waking up in their pockets, sending texts, making calls, playing music and taking pictures all without you knowing. Even with the lockscreen password protected.
Making it easier to do this seems to me to be a bad idea
So my display after being replaced 2 times in 6 months started flickering. My phone is very hard to be turned on because of the green flickering.
I just want to upgrade to a S6,S7 Edge or non edge. i just want to know if they have the save problem with displays ? I want to have a phone at least 2 years, can you recommand me a phone like that ?
I was just considering switching to a iPhone even though i prefer android on phones ... o how are S6,S7s displays ? Samsung still have the same problems?
Samsung improved a lot on screen quality in S6 and after, so you should be okay

Wow that's amazing. Been using samsung s5 exynos version for the last 1yr. Never had that kind of problem till date. And it have the same display as snapdragon version. And on comparison I found that this is by far the best display out there when compared to other brands.
Maybe perhaps you might be having a faulty unit from the begining.

I have the same problem here with the display and it's not a software problem (same by original os 6 and same by cyanogenmod 14).
After the temperatures are under 10 C. i can't open my s5 with home button i must do it over the power button.
Using S5 for more than 28 months still I have not faced any issue. I just had to buy new charger apart from that not a single problem and yes I mess up with my phone so much but I still working and no display failure yet. And also I have dropped it many times, it still refuses to die.
You are just having a defective model or some internals of the phone are messed up. Because Samsh*t produces one of the best displays..

Its not a good sign. Try disabling your light sensor. Even then if you experience such a problem than it means that your flex cable that attaches the screen with the motherboard needs to be changed.

Hi,
Yes and expect the same problems with the following generations. It's an amoled screen thing. The green colour happen when there's a colour displayed on the screen for a very long time (for example, I have a green on my screen of the size of my keyboard).
I think a solution to this problem is to set the display to turn off after 30s (it saves battery too) and maybe, if you're using a custom keyboard, change the colour from time to time. Use the brightness of the screen to a lowest which would still be comfortable to you (and auto unticked).
This last tip alone is enough to prevent greening. My flickering happened after an incredible fall (it had a tempered glass so the screen was safe). The flickering showed green what it had in memory.
Samsung has a 2-year guarantee for its products so you shouldn't worry for that period of time. Problem not solved, replacement.
Best of luck

The funny thing is i already did "by mistake" all the tips you said and still have this. Never dropped the phone though. This problems seems very big though, i expected a burn in to be the biggest problem, but to have flickering at a level that i cant turn on the phone. I wanted recently to switch to a Nexus 6p, but knowing that it uses Amoled too, its a bad ideea. So the only "solution" is to switch to IPS screens? (btw i want a phone that holds on for at least 3 years)
In my research thus far, the AMOLED screen technology is to blame. When the display circuits get old or damaged, they don't sustain current at low power settings. In LED screens, a back light controls brightness, but AMOLED screens send current to each pixel for brightness control. If the circuit is damaged, or any corrosion has built up inside, this could attenuate the current below the point required to sustain light flow. I see this problem with some LED and CFL lights on motion sensor switches. Just enough current goes through the motion sensor to keep it's circuits active, and that current causes a flicker in the light.
With the screen though, since the problem is only resolved when you increase the brightness just a bit above minimum, it seems anything that lowers the display power (auto brightness for example) will cause it to flicker if this setting gets too low. I also noticed that before the screen locks on timer, it dims to low power for a few seconds and flickers as a result. There are apps that attempt to resolve this by putting a translucent black screen over your desktop and apps. This keeps the power up on the pixels but adds a black overlay, kind of like a screen filter. You can adjust the darkness if you need it to save your eyes when reading in the dark but it doesn't help save power any. They also require a rooted device, which could void warranties. The reason for this I believe is because apps are supposed to operate in a way they don't intrude on each other, and a filter that lays over your screen does in fact alter the output of your display rendering. With the added security concerns of these apps possibly collecting screen shots and sending them to another site, I would avoid this. Best to use a physical screen overlay you can put on or remove as needed as long as it doesn't interfere with your touch screen options.
Ultimately, these devices were meant for replacement every 2 to 3 years so if you're like me and you like to make your investment last, best thing to do is apply any work around you can come up with. A repair shop may be able to wipe the circuit boards down with a solution that clears away corrosion, but it won't repair any weakened pixels. I'm still using a Samsung S5 G900F
- And i finally got this fixed. it sounds like the reason for this is that since the latest update your phone cannot decide whether to use hardware or software back light settings. I managed to make the problem go away by doing this:
Go to settings >> system >> About device.
Find "Build number" and click 6 times fast on it.
You will then get the message saying: "You are now a developer"
and then go back to Settings >> system >> Now you will see the "Developer Options"
Now go to Developer options >> Drawing Section or Rendering Section >> Find "Turn off hardware overlays" or "disable hardware overlays" >> This will force the phone to always use GPU for screen adjustments. no more flickering.
but If I turn the brightness ALL the way down, it still flickers like crazy, however, if that's the only time it'll do it, I consider that a win.

Hi devs!
Since i have this phone iam searching the function for double-tap to wake-up feature.
Esp, cause the previous models had this feature.
I've been through a few launchers and a few apps, but it seems with a fingerprint-sensor this feature has become unavailable?
Any people here managed to double-tap to wake-up their device?
Thanks in advance!

Sorry to say but that incredibly useful feature is missing from the XZ1c. It's not just a software thing, I believe it's missing at a hardware level. So either the screen is different or the kernel doesn't support it.
Wave up is a way of opening and closing the screen and has had some good reviews from XDA members.
Thanks for your reply.
Let's see if i can get used to this and finetune it a little.

I'm giving a shot myself with this app... It seems working great... Only doubt of course is the battery draining... Let's see after a few days of testing...
P. S. So Wave Up is for the waving hands thing... What about double tap to wake?

Double tap to wake likely needs lower level support that isn't possible with a mere app.
BTW, I've been using the Wave Up app for months, did not notice any battery drain.
I personally love the wake screen after removing from pocket feature, it works like a charm and so handy to have. I now wonder how I lived for so long without it.
Also, you don't need to actually wave your whole hand, just flick a finger 2 or 3 times over the sensor area and boom. Although I'd still prefer DTTW, it's a great compromise.

Yeah, I saw WaveUp recommended on XDA too and used it after trying and disliking Gravity Screen. It's been fantastic, and I actually don't notice a lot of battery drain from it either. I sometimes end up double-tapping the proximity sensor. That generally works pretty well. Sometimes even better than waving.
Just a little update about WaveUp.
Definitely, a must have for XZ1 Compact owners. ?????????????????. After a few days of testing I can confirm it has almost zero impact to battery (I can't notice any difference, in fact it doesnt even shown on Setting's Battery usage) but once u use it... U can't stay without it anymore!
I really i don't understand why Sony didn't include this functionality out of the box...
I am using Gravity Screen to wake my phone using the proximity sensor, but I noticed it keeps the sensor ON all the time even when the phone is locked. I think this is what WaveUp do as well. I'm kind of concerned with the sensor being awake all the time that it might affect the lifespan of the sensor and get damaged fast. I hope SONY put back that double tap to wake.

Might be a late reply, but an app called Glimpse Notifications does exactly what you want.

I am using "Glimpse Notification"
They do it on purpose, they always take something away and then put it back in the next model. But the next model will miss a different detail, and so on ...
So iam now 3 days in with the S10 plus and i have to say that while theres lots i love about it , iam also disappointed. Here are my complaints thus far..... I pray some of these can and will be fixed with a software update.
1 - Camera, Yes its pretty good but i expected more. No better then the S9 imo. Expected a little more from Samsung with regards the camera this year.
2 - Kepad touch issues..... I virtually cannot type on this phone without constantly and accidentally hitting the 'p' key. I do not have chubby hands or anything but whenever i need to reach across to the left side of the keypad , iam forever hitting that 'p' key and it drives me crazy to the point where i may return the phone.
3 - No notification LED - This wouldnt be a deal breaker if Edge lighting worked properly but Edge lighting is pretty damn poor lets be honest. Works fine for default messaging app but thats about it.
4 - Fingerprint scanner - Was awful initially but improved massively once i removed the pre-installed screen protector and added a second fingerprint using the same finger. However, I still find that it occasionally fails to read my fingerprint. I feel like iam placing my thumb in the right area given that the icon lights up to help me but somehow it still sometimes fails. I would say it works around 80% of the time
5 - Fast Charging - Again i expected more. Its not slow but its not fast either. It takes around 1hr 45 mins to get from 15% - 100%
For me personally i would be happy if they could improve the keypad and fingerprint issue but theres already been updates and not much has changed.

You can modify the size of the keyboard for this very reason, move it up or down until you can use it comfortably.
You can also modify the curve display deadzone with goodlock.
I'm also surprised that AOD doesn't fill the void of a notification led.. it certainly does for me.. In saying that I would like to see a notification ring around the camera cutout, I think that would of been a nice touch.
I agree with you on everything you mentioned.
I would add one more thing regarding accidental touches, I am a skinny guy, and so are my hands, but whenever I am reaching to other side of the screen, I find the screen either not responding to my touches or causing accidental touches, what drives me crazy is that I check the palm of my hand and almost always it's not even touching the edge of the screen, it's as if even when your skin is hovering few mm above the edge if the screen the phone will take it as if your actually touching it, if that makes sense.
As for the camera, coming from the Note 9, I am so disappointed with the low light capabilities of this phone, even indoors it's not up to par with other flagships, I even get worse shots than my previous Note 9 and S9. To make matters worse, Samsung didn't include a propper night mode that can compete with Huawei's night mode or the Pixel's night sight.
Sorry for my bad English, I hope I was clear enough in delivering my point. Cheers.

I contacted Samsung about the keyboard issue! All they suggest is to leave feedback. If your using the stock keyboard then it can be resized which i guess kinda is a solution but you have to bring it in from both sides to keep it centered and the keyboard then winds up been a tad too small so its not ideal! Its weird because my s9 plus was almost identical in terms of its dimensions yet it did not have this issue.
fingerprint scanner has also been a nightmare today! I could swear iam not doing anything different yet it works sometimes and rejects me other times. Its makin me miss the finger print scanner on the s9. It was so much better. Another small annoyance is how fast my battery goes from 100% to 99% lol
Battery in general is great but i charge it to 100%, Unplug it and seconds later iam at 99% .......... what the fudge ha
I used an iphone xs temporarily recently and i have to say that while it is over priced and in general Samsung is much better and cheaper too. However, Apple does things properly. It worked flawlessly and never gave issue. The Samsung is far better on paper and ticks all the boxes but in day to day use its just not as 'perfect'
The success rate hit of the finger print scanner is much lower with the lock screen than with the screen saver. While with the screen saver it is effective and quick , it more often than not that with the lockscreen the fingerprint identification is rejected.
Any ideas? solutions? I already deleted and printed new finger print few times already.
I find that it's total garbage. It works about 10% of the time and I've redone adding my prints over and over. I've tried most of the steps others have and find that it doesn't help. Someone said to do a factory reset and no I'm not going to do that. I just don't use it anymore and will probably get rid of this phone soon. I want to use SD cards again and have more memory as 512 is just not enough. The reader on the Note 9 was so much better.
Not sure what you guys are doing or not doing, but my print reads all the time whether screen is on or off. Get use to where the sensor is also make sure you don't have dry hands
No complaints here. Work 99 out of 100 times on both screens
Can't complain either, working perfect here and very fast, too... Btw with stock screen protector, if that matters....

Are you using a screen protector/shield?
I have learnt I need to press harder. I used to have a Pixel 2 XL FPR on the back which was really sensitive. Using a phone with FPR under-screen was new for me, you do need to be firmer when pressing your finger down and after training myself for a few days I don't have any issue with unlocking now. I have fitted two S21Ultras (mine and friends)with the White Dome tempered glass and that has not impacted us either.

It's hard to miss where the sensor is as it's pointed out on the screen when using it. As for dried hands that too seems not to matter.
Folks I'm guessing you think you're being helpful when you say that you're not having a problem with your phone as a response to someone who is have a problem. To me that's like me taking my car to a mechanic and telling them my car isn't working properly and them telling me that their car is working just fine. I worked for many years as a computer consultant at a major university in upstate NY and never once did I respond in this fashion because it's pointless.
But he was wondering if his phone was faulty..you being an analyst should realise that if most of the replies are positive that in itself helps him

Hi.
No , as it was unpacked from the box.
This has started to be an issue on my a.o.d.
Was ok but I changed the icon and it seems to be hit and miss now.
I just double tap the screen and bypass it

My Icons also changed , so that might be the issue.
Problems solved. The cause of very low hit rate of the fingerprint scanner on AOD in lock screen was new icons i dowloaded from Galaxy store. When i installed the original , no more missed prints
No complaints here. But it completely works
