[Q] How to turn on flash during video?! - Galaxy Camera Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Sorry if it's been mentionned somewhere but how do you turn on that damn flash during video..?
No matter which option i select, it's grayed out, no matter i did pop up the flash before. Is this a joke..?

i would like to know this too! +1

The flash is not available in video shooting or continuous photo shooting.
I guess this is down to the fact it's a flash and not a video lamp/LED

That's correct. The flash is a flash tube (with photoflash capacitor) as opposed to LED-"flashes" used on mobiles. As such it is much more powerful, but does not provide continuous lighting as mobile phones.
Engadget showed a LED-flash-ring in their accessories hands-on, so that might be down the road (despite of ring-flashes normally being used for macro-photography).

Oh my... This is SOOO disapointing, i always miss flash during video on my Sony camera, i thought i'll get it here but no
Do you have a link for the engadget accessory hands on you're talking about? BTW would some hack allow us to turn flash on for shooting?

Xenon Flash is not made for "always on" operation... not just battery consumption, but also the overheat issue.
Smartphone can do the video light because they use LED Flash.

Camera Issues

Hello,
I've tried to find this issue in the forums, but can't.
I have a problem with my camera on the AT&T Tilt (8925), it really slows down in low light settings. Unless it's really bright or sunny it takes horrible pictures. The preview mode jumps and skips.(I'm using the ROM it came with)
The 8525 that I had before would take pictures and video no problem in semi low light situations, but the Tilt is not even close.
Please let me know if other people are having the same problem or if you think I have a defective unit or something is wrong with the ROM.
I don't think anyone has ever had a problem with their camera in low light. It must be just your phone. I would take it back to ATT and demand a refund and a free phone for your troubles.
i agree, i think not a single person in this forum has any issue with using the camera in low light conditions. In fact, I'm pretty sure that if you look in the kaiser wiki, you will see nothing about low fps in the camera at all.

Oh, which reminds me, I was going to bring this up after I tested it as working or not.
I had a webcam that had the same problem as this phone's does.
Point being, I was going to install the latest camera software because that one (the 5.xx version) had different registry settings than the 4.xx one did. And I THINK, that there was a registry setting that defined the different increments available for the lighting scenarios.
EG: you should be able to deactivate the camera's ability to auto adjust to light, or at least increase the time before it does to some unholy number.

How can you say you couldn't find the answer? There are tons of threads and a classaction law suite (or something like that) with this problem stamped all over it.

Video recording on Tilt/Kaiser

I sold my phone yesterday... the guy came back and said that the video recording shows up green pixels and no picture..
Is this a common issue? Is it a rom/driver issue... or is the camera just jacked up? I flashed it with dutty's rom (to unlock the phone) but forget specifically which version.
I love how people always say (is it a driver issue) lol.
Sounds like something is jacked up with the codec or something. You might want to reset the phone a million ways and then if that fails flash the rom back on.

REFLASH !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
is the video recording problem a common issue though? has anyone heard of this?
i think it's most likely a software issue.. but it might just be a hardware thing.
bump
so i installed dutty's newer rom, yet there's still the same issue...
u guys have any input? is my camera fubar? the picture is crystal clear when i'm recording and taking pics, it's just when i replay the video that i have problems.
btw, there was never anything wrong with the codec, it played other files no problem. i also checked by playing hte video file on my computer, and the screen is also pixelated.. this could be a hardware problem.
Radio
Maybe you should try flashing a new radio on there and see if that works??
i flashed the radio.. still not working. anyone have any other ideas/suggestions?
I think it's broken...

Preferably of naked women. Opps. Did I say that out loud. I meant a beautiful sunrise.
By the way, you don't unlock a phone by flashing Dutty's. I know people love him and all but it doesn't do that much for you. Unlocking is different.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JYeg3Sg82OM
okay, that's strange... when i watch the file via windows media explorer, it's all green pixels. and when i upload it to youtube, it's just a black screen. weird.
i'd play the file and record the picture on the screen, but apparently i can't record videos with my phone lol.
OK Couple Things. I have heard this a a couple ROM but I don't remember exactly what the Cause is.
So Try a New Radio or seven.
Then Try a different ROM or two.
Make sure your Radio is compatible with your ROM.
Search for and Install Navadi's Camera Fix.
Some of the newer "7201" Tilts have been reported to record green/black video unless you are using a very select list of ROMs and radios.

[Q] Camera Flash

Hi all, gotta say this is a fab camera, the best camera i have ever owned, and love the fact is has SLR features, but........
the flash on this device flashes twice, in all the flash settings in expert mode,
what i need this device to do. is ether some way to hook up a external flash or have the on device flash only once so i can trigger a remote off camera flash via a optical receiver,
whats happening with me, is that with the camera flashing twice the first flash triggers my off camera flash unit, and then the second flash takes the picture, which results in the darkened photo, the reason i need off camera flash is to fill in the shadows behind the subject, i have also defused the light with a custom defuse box made of cardboard and tissue paper which works very well but i need to remove shadows with a second or even 3rd flash unit
I don't think you'll achieve anything here. The flash is one of the weaker elements of this camera. There aren't any adjustments relating to it.
I find the fact that you cannot force the flash 'on' to be the most frustrating, and no flash fill option is a pretty bad omission.
As you say, it's a fantastic camera but is let down by the flash. I doubt anyone can offer a solution but good luck anyhow.

I have been right through all the setting in Expert mode, but the flash still flashes twice when taking a photo, i need this to only flash once so i can trigger a remote flash
On my device it only flashes once in expert mode as said above. Select fill in or red eye setting for flash. I have android 4.1.2

Fill in Flashes twice really fast, and red eye also flashes twice but a longer delay between flashes, in P mode
all my flash options flash Twice, and the photo is taken on the second flash, i cant understand why Samsung would not include the option for off camera flash on this camera, maybe some one can develop the ability to stop the first flash, or even design a Bluetooth or Wifi flash unit
i have found out that this double flash issue is in fact a pre flash before the main flash,
is there anyway to disable the pre flash on this device

Xperia Z1 general concerns.

Hi I've been using my z1 (latest firmware .257) for a week now and got a couple of questions I hope somebody can answer..
1. My battery is draining 1 percent every hour on standby mode. wifi on, everything else is off including sync, nfc, bluetooth etc. is this normal or bad?
2. I understand that there are apps that trigger wakelocks and keep your phone awake even on standby which in turn eats up battery. does that mean that I will be able to avoid this if I dont install apps with permission of "prevents phone from sleeping"?
3. I got a problem with my walkman because the sound files in my games installed is showing up in my music. It will take me forever to sort my music files one by one and add them in a playlist because i have too many songs. is this a bug? I also experience this with my XS..
4. I have this habit of charging my phone before going to bed and plugging off in the morning when i wake up. will this have a negative impact on my battery? cause i notice a slightly lower screen on time whenever I do this.
5. Camera - whenever I take photos, they appear to have this whitening thing going on. I dont know how to describe it but think of it as a normal pic and then add a flash to it so it becomes whiter.. sort of like a foggy white or the white you usually see on animes when someone is dreaming lol is this normal? it happens in any setting. even on normal mode with equalizer on 0. not that it degrades photo quality but on bright conditions it does make the photo look over exposed.. is this a software bug of a faulty device? if it is a bug, is sony working on this?
I hope some pro can answer these questions cause I cant sleep at night just thinking of it.. thank you for taking time to read.

Sorry but this is not latest firmware. Latest firmware is .290 Android 4.3.
To all you questions 1.2.3.4, except 5, the answar is to update to Android 4.3 FTF .290 and all will be solved.
For the answar 5, sorry but many users had reported same problem, you can try to clean the lens or to switch the flash to fill flash and try to understand how set up the camera for better pictures, but like I said is a problem because, my personal opinion, the flash is to close to the lens and is not a coincidence if many reported that too. 1000% sure if the flash will be more distanced this will never happen, so you have to keep it in that way and understand how to use it.

defenetly not the flash fault, mybe some fauly devices... probebly a lens problem. when i take pictures with my flash theres no white hue anywhere on the picture, works as it should and as it works with any other phone... i can upload some example shots if you want...
those small but high mp cameras have a complicated setup of lenses, nokia once had an interview on thier pureview camera and said every single unit is being personally adjusted before leaving the factory. mybe sony doesn't do it and counts on thier manufacturing proccess which is far from perfect as we can all testefy.
so i guess some units comes with bad lens arrangement...

This is a good way to do it. Modern batteries like being charged a lot, they do not like being empty or fully discharged.

thanks for the answer. about the .nomedia do you mean put any music file and rename it to .nomedia? my phone is not rooted. can I still do that?
as for camera, im not talking about flash. flash works perfectly. I mean pictures with no flash. I will try to provide a screen shot later. The pics are not that bad. just looks overexposed. as if they edited the file and added the brightness. exactly like that.. try to edit any photo and add up the brightness. thats exactly how my pictures look like.. again, its not that bad but sometimes annoying when lighting conditions are good cause the color looks exagerated and too white..
no just create a file with a name of .nomedia

just create a blank text file or something, and rename it to .nomedia
you don't have to be rooted because you shouldn't need to access the system partition. You can use any file explorer app to do this, or copy it straight from your PC
Just long press in any folder you want to create it and choose create file, call it .nomedia

In my case is not lens for sure, I still make some good pictures in good light, but in low light always my flash is ruining my pictures. What I said was reported by many users and not everybody who have a Z1. We are to many for a faulty lens, don't you think.

Same thing. Put a .nomedia in those folders too. Then reboot so that the media is scanned again and your images /videos in that folder will be hidden.

Question Camera Auto Flash Issue

I bought Mi 11 ultra yesterday and I found that in-camera app when I enable the auto-flash option and take photos in dark/night scenarios, flash doesn't work at all, even if it's complete black or pitch black, and works normally when it's enabled. I'm not sure whether it's a hardware issue (I hope not) but I started to feel a little concerned about this issue.

LOL, this thread and responses are a joke. Before starting a thread about help for some app, you should at least first check settings of that app for a solution. Just go to camera settings and disable "Enhance image quality". It says in description that in low light conditions it will turn on night mode if that option is enabled and that is what you do not want, you want normal capture with flash light. Yes, you can argue that this design is not logical, but that is MIUI for you. Still, no excuse for not checking settings.

Firstly, you can be a little more respectful when you're actually trying to help someone and not joke about it because it can happen to anyone.
Secondly, normal capture with auto-flash still doesn't work even after disabling the "enhance image quality" option in camera settings. I don't know if it doesn't work the way it should then IDK why that option is still there in the camera.

When it is easy solution, jokes are with justification.
And normal capture with auto flash works when you disable "enhance image quality". Just tested it myself. Flash turns on in low light scenes only. Try to cover your camera with hand to make it pitch black. It should display yellow flash icon that tells you that it will turn on flash when capturing that scene.

in the worst case scenario, backup everything and do a factory reset. then you can be sure which is the issue to your camera.
I have noticed one thing, when I switch to 5x then auto flash works and it also works in dual camera mode but doesn't work in 1x or normal capture mode.
