[Q] Camera Flash - Galaxy Camera Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all, gotta say this is a fab camera, the best camera i have ever owned, and love the fact is has SLR features, but........
the flash on this device flashes twice, in all the flash settings in expert mode,
what i need this device to do. is ether some way to hook up a external flash or have the on device flash only once so i can trigger a remote off camera flash via a optical receiver,
whats happening with me, is that with the camera flashing twice the first flash triggers my off camera flash unit, and then the second flash takes the picture, which results in the darkened photo, the reason i need off camera flash is to fill in the shadows behind the subject, i have also defused the light with a custom defuse box made of cardboard and tissue paper which works very well but i need to remove shadows with a second or even 3rd flash unit

I don't think you'll achieve anything here. The flash is one of the weaker elements of this camera. There aren't any adjustments relating to it.
I find the fact that you cannot force the flash 'on' to be the most frustrating, and no flash fill option is a pretty bad omission.
As you say, it's a fantastic camera but is let down by the flash. I doubt anyone can offer a solution but good luck anyhow.

I have been right through all the setting in Expert mode, but the flash still flashes twice when taking a photo, i need this to only flash once so i can trigger a remote flash

On my device it only flashes once in expert mode as said above. Select fill in or red eye setting for flash. I have android 4.1.2

Fill in Flashes twice really fast, and red eye also flashes twice but a longer delay between flashes, in P mode
all my flash options flash Twice, and the photo is taken on the second flash, i cant understand why Samsung would not include the option for off camera flash on this camera, maybe some one can develop the ability to stop the first flash, or even design a Bluetooth or Wifi flash unit

i have found out that this double flash issue is in fact a pre flash before the main flash,
is there anyway to disable the pre flash on this device

i would like to know this too! +1
The flash is not available in video shooting or continuous photo shooting.
I guess this is down to the fact it's a flash and not a video lamp/LED
That's correct. The flash is a flash tube (with photoflash capacitor) as opposed to LED-"flashes" used on mobiles. As such it is much more powerful, but does not provide continuous lighting as mobile phones.
Engadget showed a LED-flash-ring in their accessories hands-on, so that might be down the road (despite of ring-flashes normally being used for macro-photography).
Oh my... This is SOOO disapointing, i always miss flash during video on my Sony camera, i thought i'll get it here but no
Do you have a link for the engadget accessory hands on you're talking about? BTW would some hack allow us to turn flash on for shooting?

Xenon Flash is not made for "always on" operation... not just battery consumption, but also the overheat issue.
Smartphone can do the video light because they use LED Flash.

Camera app bug p88020b

The bug i am facing is related with the "Camera" app and especially with the flash.
1. Select 'Normal' shooting mode.
2. Turn the flash to "ON" (not auto)
3.Touch to focus somewhere (Flash should be fired up)
4. Select for ex. (Night) shooting mode - touch somewhere to focus.
5. Move camera to another object (focus again)
6.switch flash to "OFF" and flash will still be fired up. When you touch to focus again...
This is how i face the bug every time for sure if you play with shooting modes and flash modes i am sure you can find another situations.
(If this is not only me with such bug)

I'm not sure many people will be able to help with this bug as it's on V20b, that is LG's issue, and as you can tell most people are focussing on custom Rom development here.
But just try wiping cache and data of the camera .apk or maybe try a 3rd party camera app with all the shooting modes? Or try out any cameras in the themes/apps section of this forum.
I wouldn't say this is a bug of much importance. Sorry i couldn't be of more help.

I posted that in case if its only my problem i have wiped app data and factory reseted several times but this bug still there i have found that almost everytime you want to turn the flash off you should switch back to normal mode. With simple camera apps from the market the bug its gone.!

So the soloution to the issue is use a camera app from the play store or keep switching back to normal mode, just one of those annoyances thou eh. I doubt LG will fix the problem thou.

If LG are going to update the 4x i hope so but somehow someone should let them know about the issue.
But i see that nobody believe in that LG will update the 4x. Because everyone knows that LG's always lack of updates even their flagships.

Front flash on Snapchat?

I've noticed the front facing cam takes terrible photos in low light, even with snapchat flooding the screen with white to take a photo. However, using the front flash in the Camera app producing excellent results. How do I make snapchat use the physical front flash?

Ok well 1. I don't even see that option, and 2. I think that would toggle the "flash" that just lights up the screen since most phones don't have a physical front LED flash like this phone does. I want to use the actual flash.

As if Snapchat would listen to their Android users thanks for your help though!
It's probably not ideal and I dont know if it will stay on if you switch apps or turn off camera, but if you open stock camera app then switch to front facing click the flash icon, you can select torch and it stays on continuously. Don't know if that may work, and if it does it's a sloppy solution...

no flash in raw pictures

Hello,
I have a problem with my p20 pro, when i shoot in raw mode with flash on the picture doesn't show the flash, it's like the flash and the moment the phone captures the photo are not matched.
i tested this in a dark room, pro mode/raw/flash on , the flash activates when i take the photo but when the photo is saved there is no flash, it's like i didn't use flash, and i know the difference between flash and autofocus light, even tried with both flash and autofocus light on.
Are there any other people having this problem ?
PS this problem is mentioned in a tutorial "a photographer's guide to the Huawei p20 pro"
I found that when I use the flash always on whilst in raw it works. If its just flash on and it takes the photo and flashes it doesn't work.

The camera is good. The flash thing I don't see to be much of an issue for me anyways.

Question Camera Auto Flash Issue

I bought Mi 11 ultra yesterday and I found that in-camera app when I enable the auto-flash option and take photos in dark/night scenarios, flash doesn't work at all, even if it's complete black or pitch black, and works normally when it's enabled. I'm not sure whether it's a hardware issue (I hope not) but I started to feel a little concerned about this issue.

Doesn't work, it shows Night3S when there's dark and takes up to 3 secs to click a picture without flash.
LOL, this thread and responses are a joke. Before starting a thread about help for some app, you should at least first check settings of that app for a solution. Just go to camera settings and disable "Enhance image quality". It says in description that in low light conditions it will turn on night mode if that option is enabled and that is what you do not want, you want normal capture with flash light. Yes, you can argue that this design is not logical, but that is MIUI for you. Still, no excuse for not checking settings.

Firstly, you can be a little more respectful when you're actually trying to help someone and not joke about it because it can happen to anyone.
Secondly, normal capture with auto-flash still doesn't work even after disabling the "enhance image quality" option in camera settings. I don't know if it doesn't work the way it should then IDK why that option is still there in the camera.

When it is easy solution, jokes are with justification.
And normal capture with auto flash works when you disable "enhance image quality". Just tested it myself. Flash turns on in low light scenes only. Try to cover your camera with hand to make it pitch black. It should display yellow flash icon that tells you that it will turn on flash when capturing that scene.

Like I said earlier, It isn't working for me I tried covering by hand and in the complete pitch black room with no light at all. I'm talking about the icon which displays flash with the letter 'A' beside it.

It's kinda weird but yeah I tried.
Most covers protect also the camera lenses and might also cover the sensor or at least disturb it.

in the worst case scenario, backup everything and do a factory reset. then you can be sure which is the issue to your camera.
I have noticed one thing, when I switch to 5x then auto flash works and it also works in dual camera mode but doesn't work in 1x or normal capture mode.
