I bought Mi 11 ultra yesterday and I found that in-camera app when I enable the auto-flash option and take photos in dark/night scenarios, flash doesn't work at all, even if it's complete black or pitch black, and works normally when it's enabled. I'm not sure whether it's a hardware issue (I hope not) but I started to feel a little concerned about this issue.

Doesn't work, it shows Night3S when there's dark and takes up to 3 secs to click a picture without flash.
LOL, this thread and responses are a joke. Before starting a thread about help for some app, you should at least first check settings of that app for a solution. Just go to camera settings and disable "Enhance image quality". It says in description that in low light conditions it will turn on night mode if that option is enabled and that is what you do not want, you want normal capture with flash light. Yes, you can argue that this design is not logical, but that is MIUI for you. Still, no excuse for not checking settings.

Firstly, you can be a little more respectful when you're actually trying to help someone and not joke about it because it can happen to anyone.
Secondly, normal capture with auto-flash still doesn't work even after disabling the "enhance image quality" option in camera settings. I don't know if it doesn't work the way it should then IDK why that option is still there in the camera.

When it is easy solution, jokes are with justification.
And normal capture with auto flash works when you disable "enhance image quality". Just tested it myself. Flash turns on in low light scenes only. Try to cover your camera with hand to make it pitch black. It should display yellow flash icon that tells you that it will turn on flash when capturing that scene.

Like I said earlier, It isn't working for me I tried covering by hand and in the complete pitch black room with no light at all. I'm talking about the icon which displays flash with the letter 'A' beside it.

It's kinda weird but yeah I tried.
Most covers protect also the camera lenses and might also cover the sensor or at least disturb it.

in the worst case scenario, backup everything and do a factory reset. then you can be sure which is the issue to your camera.
I have noticed one thing, when I switch to 5x then auto flash works and it also works in dual camera mode but doesn't work in 1x or normal capture mode.

Anyone know how to fix ? Thanks
Some obvious things:
- Have you changed ROMs/Kernels between shots?
- Did you change any camera settings? White balance maybe?
- Have you checked the lens to make sure it is clean?
Bit hard to tell what has happened without knowing the above.

+ I have tried several ROM (stock GB, stock ICS, CM9), and still got this problem
+ I did not change any thing in setting
+ How can i check lens ?
Not sure there is a way to check lens apart from viewing through camera. I clean mine with an alcohol wipe when I clean the back of the case. You may have some grime on it.
If you have used different ROMs then must be related to the lens I would think. I have noticed that the camera is not so good in room under night time conditions, but does do excellent job outside. Have you tried taking outside shots during the day?

+ Do you need to disassemble your phone before clean lens ?
+ I have tried taking outside shots, and results were the same
No - I onlu clean outside of it very carefully. If you have done that and outside shots are the same then it seems like it is a hardware problem. Did you take any shots of the Sun (silly question I know but with the Transit of Venus last week some people may have pointed phone at Sun and cooked their photo receptor)
THe only other thing I can suggest is to select Reset from Camera settings and then see if that undoes any weird settings that are affecting the picture.

Yes, sorry. Can't think of what else it could be. Good luck
Hi guys,
I am really disappointed of the camera of the XZ, because since I've tried to shoot some photos, it simply can't focus on anything. The camera behaves kind of strange, when I try to focus and shoot the photo. It makes only really smooth pictures which are very blurred. I suppose that this isn't any normal. So I wanted to ask here, if anyone in here does have the same issue and solved it somehow, or if there is someone who can tell me if it's software problem or a hardware problem. If you'd like to I can add a picture to prove it.
Thanks in advance!
You should get the phone checked out bit before you do check you are on superior auto and if it can't focus on anything tap the image to focus on a certain part like a face. See if that helps. Thank me if I have helped

I am using the auto mode. My friend uses the same settings as I do and his camera is working a lot better its sharper and clearier.
Couldn't it be an hardware issue?
Later on I will add my settings.

It still needs light. And the best and easiest way is to use the flash as a focus aid.
i know that but op said low light not no light
Is the same thing that afflicts me.. When NO LiGHT, would be nice to see flash to focus.. Because the phone is unable to focus in that condition..

when i press the capture button flash comes on for a sec or 2 and it focuses then flash goes off then flashes again when it takes photo
Mine turns the flash on before taking the photo, it's not focused though!
I have 1.29.708.4, an early 1.29 build, so hoping for improvements soon.
It also puts the screen on max brightness, which is a bit excessive when it's pitch black. Have to turn screen off and back on again for the ambient light sensor to reactive and auto brightness to work.
ok, but why me and OP haven't this feature? is a software thing i hope..
I've noticed the front facing cam takes terrible photos in low light, even with snapchat flooding the screen with white to take a photo. However, using the front flash in the Camera app producing excellent results. How do I make snapchat use the physical front flash?

Ok well 1. I don't even see that option, and 2. I think that would toggle the "flash" that just lights up the screen since most phones don't have a physical front LED flash like this phone does. I want to use the actual flash.

It's probably not ideal and I dont know if it will stay on if you switch apps or turn off camera, but if you open stock camera app then switch to front facing click the flash icon, you can select torch and it stays on continuously. Don't know if that may work, and if it does it's a sloppy solution...

What troubleshooting steps have you taken?
How do you know it's not as bright as it should be?
When did this start happening?
How long has it been going on?
Just saying, "this doesn't work, please help" doesn't give us any information. Imgaine taking your car to the mechanic and just saying, "my car doesn't work correctly. Fix it." Then just walking off.
I have compared my note 7 and note 8 led flash light with other phones, And yes, compared to others it seems to be less bright, but, the intensity is adecuate for the camera, the light intensity is designed to work fine with the camera's parameters it is not meant to be used as an illuminating lantern for other purposes, the important thing is to check if your dark enviroment photos using flash come out as they should
