you can try to see if your IMEI is intact. use the list of Samsung service codes.
you can also just try to enter it with root explorer if it is actually corrupted (as opposed to wiped or something), your phone will lock up when you try to.
generally speaking if your phone service works and/or you have a non-generic IMEI your EFS is intact.
make sure you back it up and export it to your computer before you do anything.
if you have a nandroid it should have backed up /efs but back it up again just in case
Thank you for you help guitarplayerone.
No problem with IMEI [*#06#).
No problem to access the efs file.
It is therefore not a problem of efs, but sd internal.

No problem. Remember to hit the 'thanks' button too You can use this tool to back up your EFS http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1308546
its imei, pcode and some other codes.
pcode being the one via the dial *2767*4387264636#
Basically that together with a csc check, if one is selected.
There is another factor I dont understand. With some ICS roms you get a info screen on desktop, when efs is damaged. Havent figured that one out

EFS
EFS can be checked if intact from settings - About device - Status
then you can see if your IMEI is intact or not
it would be very wise to backup your efs partition using HC K-tool, it was a life jacket when a restore corrupted my EFS partition, you only have to do it once and keep it on your Ext SD card
Best of luckl
Thank you.
In settings, my EMEI is intact.
I will try HC K-tool.
Finaly i have a problem in partition 7,9 and 11! (Android SDK + ADB).
Big problem to move the apps on the sd with the CHIMERA ( the phone does not respond) , but no problem to move apps with all other rom...!?!?

This has happened to me some times. I've read in some place that it's a common error if you have more than 3 or 4 bakcups on the nandroid folder (it doesn't matter how much free space you have).
Since I keep 2 or 3 nandroid backups on SD, I haven't any problem with this.
I hope this work for you.

The same problem for me with Androidiani OR 3.3 and I have no backup on nandroid folder.
Nandroid backup stuck at "Dumping.." system or data till the battery's empty, and there no data backed up, so I have to use Titanium Backup for backing up data
Sometimes it works if you format your card and download a fresh copy of AOR. Make sure you backup your sdcard before formatting it.

I had the same problem a few days ago. just replace the current openrecovery with the FuFu one found in the dev section. And then copy the nandroid backups from the old recovery and paste them in the new one. The problem should be solved....

for some people it works when they have format the sdcard over the milestone settingsmenu and redownload the OR...
i don't have any problems with nandroids, but sometimes the OR just freeze and i can't do anythink, i think its an main problem, but don't know how to solve...
if you have a second sdcard, test if it work with it, may your sdcard is damaged...

Here's what I do.
First, download mini partition tool for formatting the SD card (http://download.cnet.com/Partition-Wizard-Home-Edition/3000-2094_4-10962200.html), don't forget back up the sdcard before doing format.
after formatting complete, copy your back up to your sdcard, and then copy the fresh OR (I'm using the androidiani OR 3.3 (http://code.google.com/p/androidiani-openrecovery/download/list) to your sdcard.
Go to openrecovery and do the nandroid.
On my case the nandroid backup is success.
Hope it works on you too.
Hey could you check if the Nandroid backup is created? in my case, the process stopped at the System Backup. But when I did a battery pull and booted to recovery, I found that the Nandroid was indeed created...
Ye it did make a back up after a pull but the only thing that was missing was the system file

I had this problem last week. The nandroid would fail when it hit my Ext2 partition, and I'd have to do a battery pull.
I put the card in my laptop using an SD adapter and ran a chkdisk on it in windows 7. Sure enough there were errors on the card that needed repairing. After that, nandroid worked perfectly.
I've had the error as well once before, and that required a bit more work. My milestone came with a 16gb card, but I upgraded to a 32gb card...still have the 16gb in reserve 'just in case'. And it's a lucky thing I do. I deleted my music off the 32gb card to make room, and then used the previously mentioned minitool partition wizard to clone my 32gb card to the 16gb card.
nandroid worked on the 16gb card without any problems.
So i wiped the 32gb card (deleted all partitions from it) and then cloned the 16gb card back to the 32gb card...
nandroid started working again.
Since most people probably don't have spare cards like that lying around, you SHOULD be able to replicate what I did by using a regular SD card or even a USB stick.
Hope any of that helps.
Nandroid never works for me also....

I've been playing around and I screwed up my EFS partition. It will not mount to the folder. I have backups of my EFS files on my computer including the nvdata.bin.
I can upload the nvdata just fine and the phone will connect to the network upon reboot. The problem is that the block device which contains EFS data has been destroyed. This means every time I flash a new ROM i have to reupload my nvdata because the block that saves it is not mounted.
How do I rebuild/reformat this block of memory to avoid having to upload my nvdata.bin every time I flash?
See, that's the problem with being one of the top devs, nobody can answer the few questions you have...

That is for HTC phones.. They use different processors. It would likely cause my phone to freak out because of invalid architecture.
That's a classic, I'm sure there are some adequate fat.format methods but I always used the laziest one: restoring a dump of the partition itself.
I send you a link on twitter.
Thanks SuperCurio. I didn't want to scare people away before I got an answer... but here's what happened.. I used UnBrickable mod to upload BADA bootloaders to my Captivate. It treated my non-Bada formatted partition table as a invalid MoviNAND and tried to reformat it... It never suceeded in boot or whatever it was trying to do because the GPIOs in my phone are different and I could see errors coming across UART output.
When all was said and done, I used UnBrickable mod to restore my device but I did not have a block level backup of the EFS, only files. The EFS would not mount.
The solution was to get an EFS block from another similar device, put it on the SDCard, then type in a terminal:
Code:
su
dd if=/sdcard/efsbackup.bak of=/dev/block/stl3
Finally, I mounted my /EFS/ rewritable and copied my /efs/ backup to the folder.
You can reverse the "if" and "of" to make a backup of the efs before hand.
Everything was working properly until i went and booted NexusS bootloaders and unlocked... lol. I can always restore again.
Thanks Supercurio. I'll post a blank EFS partition soon.
So if we have the block backup...then if we mess up partitions. We just move those blocks back to original place.?

Do what spyder says or unzip the rom file (tar/zip) to the last level and take those files from there...
Moreover install Better battery stats as well to make sure if this is what causing the issue.... Just a side idea... And just to be sure
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk 2
Moreover once u r replacing the files make sure to set the right permissions on them (check the permission of the files u are about to change and then replicate the same with the new ones)
Here an advice for the future: If you plan to apply a mod always copy the corresponding system files onto your internal or external sd card prior to replacing them.

for backup.. no but for restore yes.. its will just bout 1 GB.. dont u have that much space on internal or external storage ?
but y do u want to do a backup of a messed up rom?
first fix the issue and then do the backup

Yeah its not messed up completely. I am slowly recovering my files to maintain good battery backup. Once i fixed it then i will make a backup.
I've used the rec. App and its made zero differance to my batt. You should make a backup ,b4 you add stuff like this so you can just go back

hi there, got two galaxy notes at home, one is mine one is my GF's
hers got a scratch and she's very sad about it. since i don't mind that much i am willing to swap our devices.
what's the best way of doing it now?
i'm sporting a rooted and paranoided rom, she's on stock.
just rooted her's with philz latest kernel, i'm currently backing her phone up
will it work if i just swap the sdcards and perform a restore on both phones?
i'll just have then to swap internal sd cards using a pc isn't it?
thanks guys.

I think there'll be data corruption as it's between stock and cm based as they're different frameworks, most things should be ok, but I think some apps will not restore ok. It might be easier to do a titanium backup of data and just restore that rather than setting etc.
Much the same with sd card as the mount points are different.

well, i tried to backup on an external SD her phone but it was too small for the task so i just made the backup on the internal memory of the phone.
now i saved all the content of her internal memory on my pc and am about to do the same with my own.
i will try to copy then my own note's data on her note and vice versa then restore the backups.
would that not overwrite any framework?

The framework is built in to the rom, so not over writable. To do a safe transfer make your new phone cm based then you can safely transfer. If your gonna leave it as tw, then it won't work.

So long as you have safe kernel in the one you're restoring to it should be fine. That being said, it's likely you'll have to perform full wipes to have secure boot up between cm based and Touchwizz.

I noticed that my internal sd card has two 0 folders, they are like so
Sdcard/0/0/
Everything from internet saves on the first /0/Download for ex., i am now on arhd 51, but previously on archidroid everything saved inside /0/0/Download, is there any way to fix this, or repartition or something without need to wipe all the data in sd? Because everything is messed up and i don't know any more wich uses what folder and so on.

can you post some screenshots of the two folders and their content, perhaps i can tell you what to do?
Edit: you can also copy all the files in one of the 0 folders to the other 0 folder and delete the empty one, i asked for screenshots just to make sure if there is any important file in one of those folders that maybe will cause problems with functioning of other apps or system settings if you replace it.
Here is the /0/0/ and i cannot delete archidroid folder or clockworkmod folder (write protected), also if i copy pictures from 0/0/DCIM/Camera to 0/DCIM/Camera, they are not shown, even after reboot when mediascanner is running, when i transfer them back they are imediately shown.
Edit: i can delete archidroid and clockworkmod folder, but via phone, not via pc, but the probem with transfering pictures to now used DCIM still persists.

I transfered all the pics inside a new folder in sdcard/0/DCIM but they just don't wanna show, they pop up only in sdcard/0/0/DCIM
What can cause this problem? (I can normally view them in file managers.
I noticed that when i force run media scanner it scans storage/emulated/0/0/
It doesnt scan the first /0/ that is used now, can this be fixed?

oke bro, here is what you should do everything personal and important to you like pics./music/documents copy to your external sd card or to your pc if possible both should be safe. format your internal sd card of the phone in recovery mode after everything is restored back put your files back into proper folders and all should be fine again. you are rooted and have custom recovery installed right?

Yes of course i'm rooted with twrp, i tought there was some other way than getting in all that copy paste, but i'll do that and then it must, just must work.
I think i messed something up in archidroid installation when it asked for EXT4 repartitioning or something like that.

It's 'calculating time for copy...' now, i see it'll take ages to 'calculate', so, is there any option to just mount the internal sd card, i remember i could mount it via CWM on my old S2 and everything went quick, but i cannot mount just SD anymore, only as a 'Media device', it seems quite slower..

I do recommend using philz touch CWM advanced edition or just the CWM touch version as a recovery choice (especially philz) rather than Twrp, but its all up to you..
I was on philz quite a while, now testing twrp, i did the wipe, everything's perfect now, but i accidentaly deleted my pics coz' they were in the 0/0/ and i deleted the second 0 thinking i don't need it
