To all HD7 users who have installed microSD or microSDXC, with capacities of 32 or 64GB; can you please post some photos or screenshots on WPBench "Storage Test" of your device, that will help people to choose brands and models, also don't forget to include basic info as the ROM being used, type: OEM or Custom and Bootloader version.
Let's do a Database of working Class 10 cards for the HD7.:highfive:
And please don't come with the "only Class 2" myth, because there are several users here using Class 10 cards on the HD7 that haven't got any issues, also don't come with the "Class 2 has better speed" thing... is just another MYTH!
I tried a Class 6 once and ran perfectly(even faster), I didn't use it because it was a 4GB microSD... also my HD7 and HD7S have 16GB Class 4 on them(they came with that card) not Class 2.
Important: for better results get the WPBench data with an empty phone(no music, photos or videos on it), I have noticed that a filled(even partially) phone gives lower speeds on the storage benchmark. (yeah, that's very weird!)
Answer ONLY IF you have a Class 10 sd card on your HD7.

Thanks for testing your cards. For having the courage to buy and test those cards on this wonderful device.
Forget it!!!
I've been making some bench myself WPBench is unreliable, its test about storage speed is crap...

Hey guys I`ve bought an Alpine and I want to put a 4GB SD Card in it??
Do you think, it works? Or is the maximium 2 GB, which works in Alpine?
CU
4 gb cards work......mostly.
I've used both the A-Data and the Transcend 4 GB cards on my Alpine. There is only one problem I've experienced. If your 4 GB card is less than half full (i.e. available storage is > 2gb), AND you've configured your camera to save the pictures you take to the SD card directly, then you may experience an error. The error simply says it can't save the SD card. If you card is more than 50% full of other stuff, then there is no problem using the camera application and saving your picutres directly to the SD Card.
I RARELY use my camera, so I really don't care. Plus, I have enough stuff on my SD card so that it never has more than 2 gb of available storage (i.e. its always more than half full). Consequently, this bug in the camera application is really not much of a nussiance.
ok, thank you very much for your reply...
It work, as I had a Kingston 4GB SD Card
without problems??
can you give me some more details about your sd card??
thank you
A 4Gb will work, but it does depend on the make - since, I'm guessing, cheaper makes use cheaper parts. Kingston and SanDisk seem to be pretty good.
I have a generic (samsung oem perhaps?) 4gb SD card and it works fine apart from it seems to be a tight fit in the slot. No problems with it as yet though.
SD card
I used a topram 4GB mini with adaptor and it did not work.
I then bought a Transcend 4GB MMC+ (plus) and it works like a dream.
I hope this helps you.
Watch out that the card is not a sdhc card. SDHC cards look like normally sd cards, but they dont' work on the Alpine.

all sdhc (high capacity) cards have "sdhc" sign so you can easily discern them
only the newest htc devices support sdhc cards
I'm using 4GB Tanscend SD Card with my alpine
and its working fine
Thanks to the advice here, I bought a 4Gb Transcend MMC plus and it works beautifully.
So much space is a real bonus as I have Tomtom maps of Europe, the whole of the USA, 6 or 7 full movies plus 20 or so albums worth of mp3's still with 500mb free for odds & sods.
Hi,
I am using a HAMA 4GB, and it is working more or less fine.
I don't know if it is a card issue or caused by the heat recently in Austria, but my Nav freezes from time to time.
I have to turn the 2020i off and then on, then it works again.
Some days ago, the card suddenly lost some data....
I have a SanDisk 4GB SD Card, however when I put it into my Alpine it doen't seem to recognise it. It just doesn't show up. Can anyone give me any hints on how to force it to look for it or something like that?
I've searched the forum without much luck so hopefully I won't be flamed..
I am looking at getting either an 8G or 18G Sandisk microSDHC with adapter.. but wondered if anyone else had taken the plunge yet?
Thanks

*bump*
Isn't there anyone out there brave (nee dumb) enough to try out one of these?
Hello i have 8G Sandisk microSDHC Class 6, trinity dont work corectly, when i soft reset access ton the microSDHC is ok, but when long time arrive access to microSDHC is slow. i return to my "old" miniSD 2go an now access is ok.
microSDHC 8G work fine on touch HD i think my rom drivers is not ok for microSDHC.

Hello!
Tried with a sandisk 16GB SDHC micro. I formatted but the Trinity formatted only for 3 GB :-((.I formatted in a notebook for 16 GB, but the HTC saw the card as a 3GB one :-(
Now I should try another mini adapter, because my one is a little old (used for a 2GB microSD)
Any news on this? I just purchased a p3600 and 16 gb would make it the perfect Phone for me.
Someone else had an 8GB SDHC and in the the trin it showed 0gb but he was able to write/read the full 8gb. Maybe you could try to fill your card to the limit too.
I have a SanDisk 16GB SDHC which didnt work with the original ROM (also only saw approx 3 GB). But updating the ROM fixed it and it now works perfectly. So I guess its a driver thing only.
Wohoooo!
16gb sandisk is on it´s way.
which class is the Card (2,4,6)?
i want to know too. im guessing its a class 2.
I couldn´t find any other than class 2 too. So I guess it is class 2 but I decided to go for 8gb first and maybe upgade to 16gb in March/April when I expect the prices to drop because 32gb will be available in stores.
any link for update?
(shall I update the whole ROM or it's just a littla patch?)
working with WM5 only... (don't wanna upgrade for WM6 :-( )
HTC 6300 and SDHC 16G
Hi, My experience (2 days) is the following:
- PDA recognises the SDHC, with 15,5 GB (iso 16G but this is normal)
- I copied from an old backup lots of programs, etc using a PC and all files are seen by PDA and programs work fine...
- BUT I tried to move files and to install in SDHC card directly from PDA and it does not work.
I am now tying to find a driver or something, but not success for the time being.
(I am using a class 6, HTC P6300 with original WM5)
Hi again,
I heve rechecked and the only failing action is the SW installation in SDHC card (both from PC and from cab file).
Any idea about why installation is failing?
Thanks
Hi people,
I was brave enough to buy last week a Sandisk 16 Gb microSDHC class 2 to use on my HTC P3600. I'm using an old miniSD adapter and my cooked ROM is [PTG] WM6.5.3 OS 5.2.23554 (build 23554.5.5.0) by Antix. I have not installed any other custom sdhc drivers. It is using the original ones that come in the ROM.
I never formatted the card. Not on Trinity or PC. So it has the factory format. I just tested with H2testw to confirm that it was indeed a 16Gb card (I bought from ebay-30€) and also the write speed is 5.8Mb/s.
First impression was that the card worked flawlessly with 15185Mb recognized. I took some photos, installed programs directly to the card, all good.
But then I noticed that 1 in 5 times I reboot the phone, I see some missing icons and it says no storage card inserted. The icons are stored on the card that is why I miss them. To solve this I need to reboot the phone again.
Other than that it seems fine until now. I will update this topic if anything different happens.
Still I would like to hear if anyone has a flawless experience with Sandisk 16Gb microSDHC with some other ROM / drivers.
ok i have a verizon SGT I800 with froyo 2.2 im going to use the how to here

Ok you don't need a memory card, but having one helps later and there are many types of micro SD cards out there so make sure you get the right one (some ones will not work or very badly on smart devices. My advice for that would be a minimum of a Class 4 (if your in Europe can help you). You can get a great class 4 32 gig for about €60 and you get a free movie to boot >:¬} check out the best price for the SD32GBHC4OPTSON-EF (product code) PNY Micro SD card
regarding routing this has yet to fail with me
SuperOneClick can get it here http://shortfuse.org/?p=13 and make sure before you connect that you have USB debugging selected, then once that's done just click root and few moments later happy days!
Hope this helps
To convert to rfs (a faster file system-format) you will need three gigas free in your external sd card.
If you eventually want to install the overcome gingerbread rom (hopefully they will port it to the verizon tab), and I recommend that path, it will convert to rfs, so you will need the sd card.
Also, it is helpful to have the sd card as you install apps, so you can install them on the card, and store the data they generate. It saves the space on your internal card for the system.
how do i find out what CLASS an SD card is i went to the story and looked at sandisk ones and i didnt see anything that said the type of class it was.
Printed on the sd card will be a number, 2, 4, or 6. If it has no number it is generally class 2. The higher the number the higher the read/write speed - higher number, faster data transfer - better for you....
I haven't seen any class 6 micro sd cards as yet in Australia or in my searches on the net.
Class 4 32Gb sandisk & kingston card works well... Also have a class 4 32Gb adata card. Works well too...
I know it has been asked a lot in the past, but searching didn't provide Milestone specific answer.
So If I buy Class 6 or Class 10, will the milestone be able to utilize the full write speed? I am running Cyanogenmod 7 RC0 (latest). At the moment I have 8GB class 4 Apacer microSD and tbh its a terrible card. All I get is 2.5 mb/s write on large files, but I am getting the same speed when the card is in card reader too so its not phone issue.
Thanks.
Maybe I'm wrong, but what I know is that the card class is the limit. It doesn't mean it will read/write at full speed all the time.
How are you testing your speeds?
Maybe SD Speed Increase help you.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5zZGluY3JlYXNlLml0Il0.
I don't know how to test my speeds, but were getting 24mb/s read and 8mb/s write speeds in SD Tools ( https://play.google.com/store/apps/...1bGwsMSwxLDEsImFsZXMudmVsdXNjZWsuc2R0b29scyJd ). I'm using a Samsung 16gb Class2. I think the app is not calculating very well. Don't know.
I am using the SD card as USB mass storage instead of carrying separate thumb drive. I transfer a lot of large 1+ GB files.
I tried SD Speed increase last week and it does make a difference on smaller files, but when copying 2GB files it seems to start fast (like a burst mode), but if timed it takes exactly the same time to write something on the card.
I am going to change my 8GB card for 16GB today anyway I just wondered if class 10 is worth getting or should I get class 6 and save some money. Whatever I buy I will report back and test the speed.
I went ahead and bought Patriot LX 16 GB class 10 microSD. Now I get variable speeds from 3.5 mb/s to 8 mb/s depending on the file sizes. As I read somewhere this is due to fact that the phone is using MTP protocol to act as mass storage device.
Anyway with the old card I was topping only 2.5 mb/s no matter the file size, so it's definitely an upgrade and since class 6 was only 5$ cheaper I saw no reason not to buy the faster one, even if the milestone can't utilize its full capability. In the end its an old phone and I believe there weren't any class 10 cards out in 2009 anyway.
And one more thing, the camcorder isnt lagging anymore when recording videos
EDIT: After booting in recovery and clearing dalvik and cache partition I am getting 9.5 + mb/s, but it does start around 4.5 mb/s and then rises to its full speed. Cheers.
Except for the improvements in video recording, is there anything else that runs smoother for you when using the phone?

I think everytime any app need to access your sd, it will be smoother, like gallery, taking photos, loading maps cached in sd, music apps indexing songs, etc. Accessing apps installed on sd card may be loaded faster too.

Thats right. Gallery loads faster, applications and games moved to SD start up faster etc. Don't know about maps, but I suppose they cache faster too.
However the main difference is when copying stuff to phone in mass storage mode. Thats why I got a higher class card in first place. While all other stuff related to reading from SD do seem snappier, the difference is not all that great since even Class 2 cards can read with high speed, but when it comes to apps that are writing the difference is obvious.
I'm using a Samsung Essentials 32GB Class 10 Card.
Gave me some troubles at first, something with sector sizes seemed wrong - but after formatting it with this tool https://www.sdcard.org/downloads/formatter_3/ it worked.
Someone in these forums suggested the tools - search for the link to find the recommended settings.
Alright, thx for the answer. For someone not using the phone the same way as you, do you think it would be worth the money to get a faster card?
Sent from my Milestone using XDA
The difference between class 6 and class 10 right now is only few bucks. I don't see why not. You never know, may come in handy.
Here check this out, less then 1$ difference in price.
16GB microSDHC CARD Class 6 - Transcend
16GB microSDHC CARD Class 10 - Transcend
I wouldn't go below class 6 since the camera is lagging when recording videos.
Is it true that if a formatted microSD often will make it slow microSD?
It' unlikely, but possible.
My Samsung Essentials 32GB Class 10 card gave my Milestone hiccups at first (rebooted several times when powering on, rebooted every time I left USB mass storage mode) so I re-formatted it using these instructions: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=23494134&postcount=7417
Now everything works fine and I still get a little more than 10MB/s when copying movies via USB - so no loss here.
Hi everyone

Never tried on smartphone but I think are good, I had only Samsung sd card on my devices.
I think the answer could be very broad but the best to answer this question is "use the best sd card". I was also asking this question previous day and searching info for it. Then only I realized there are some things working behind that if we don't know, we will choose the sd card solely on the info of the packaging.
As you may aware, the packaging of sd card shows that how fast is the "read speed" and "write speed". I have done some searching and only to find that the actual important part for sd card to be in "excellent" range" does not only rely on these 2 factors. These 2 factors are only telling you how fast the files could be transfer if you copy in or out from the sd card, say using computer with card reader. But when u are using the sd card slotted in your phone, factors that affect the speed of write and read is something else called " random read or write" , 4k read and write (here 4k is not indicating the resolution) , these factors do not show in the packaging. You can only find it through website where people run the test on the sd card and get the results. To justify this, I bought a cheap sd card (class 10 speed, UHS1) and a Samsung pro (same) and when I taking the picture with the cheap one, it takes sometime for it to save the picture whereas for Samsung pro it is immediate. Same when trying to load the picture gallery, the cheap card loaded the thumbnails slower whereas Samsung pro is blazingly fast. So I believe the claim that random read and write plays the actual role of the speed. The reason being samsung pro sd card has the highest random read and write speed (and so for other factors as well). That's for last year of the results. Few months ago I did check on the updates and found that sandisk extreme pro top the list in random read and write and other factors.
So u can do a check on the things I mentioned and choose the correct card. By the way that is not the only factors as well, it also depends on the maximum transfer rate of the sd card slot on your phone. It's the same principle as getting an AC router but with N band phone will not give u the AC speed. This you will have to search for the info again to see if anybody test the phone's card slot transfer speed. Then u will have a lot of homework
But to simplify I will also suggest u to get the Samsung evo (cheaper than evo+ but with higher random read and write speed) or if u want a really good one, get Samsung pro or pro+. Quality wise certainly no need to worry. If that's not what u concern, then simply get the one with high transfer rate written on the packaging, there are a lot of good brand u can choose from and with cheap price too
