Rooted+CWM installed in your phone?
Use cwm recovery to backup your stock rom.
Root your phone, instalar cwm and do a backup.
To restore it you need first to convert the file System to rfs, and then restore the backup through cwm. This is because custom roms use ext4 file system and if you don't convert it, cwm won't restore your backup.

i know that, but how to do that "convertion" (manually or there's program) from ext4 to rfs after backup in cwm where to find backup file, please explain
To convert system to rfs you must flash a full package firmware via odin

I use cf-root ext4 Manager app, easy. There is also a way with adb commands, I don't have the link right now. Google is your best friend (and big brother)

O, please give me link for that app. does that go like this:
install apk as any other
convert
do i have to have some special kernels or i can install it on custom rom
EDIT: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1158197 this is the link from ketut. do i have to flash whole cf root kernel or i can just install the app on my custom rom's kernel??

Well, if you are going to use cf-root ext4 manager to restore a stock backup its probably recommended to use cf-root kernel, and you will lose the custom rom you're using, so why do you care if it's just the app or the entire kernel?
I don't know if just the app will work, but it's irrelevant. Just Flash a custom rom with cf-root applied, or Flash the cf-root kernel, convert to rfs and you're good to go. You'll restore a backup and basically wipe any custom rom you were previously using.
Otherwise, a Odin one package will revert your file system to rfs, and wipe cwm recovery (so you need to root and istall cwm afterwards and then restore backup)
1. Root your phone
2. Install CWM
3. Backup your Current ROM*
4. Install yuour Custom ROM, and if something happen
5. Flash Stock ROM with odin
6. Root your phone
7. Install CWM
8. Restore your Current ROM*
Make sure you didn't wipe anything in your SD card..

Ext4 Manager app will convert your file System to rfs, so do it before restoring backup.
The other way, Flash a Odin one package, root, install cwm and restore.

3 ways to do it:
1.EXT4 Manager App
2.Flash Cf-root
3.Flash Odin full package file.

Help, my Note is stuck on the boot logo after trying to install a custom rom.
I have tried several roms now and non of them pass the boot screen. Getting a little scared now.
Here are the steps I have taken. Please tell me if I'm doing something wrong.
Stock rom
Root and install clockwork mod
nandroid backup
flash abyss kernal
wipe data
wipe cache
install custom rom
stuck on boot logo
I have just tried restoring the nandroid backup and the same thing happens... stuck on boot logo
Have I bricked the phone?
I can still access clockwork if that's any help.
I'm trying a restore via pc odin now.
Not got much hope though, seems to be stuck. The bar doesn't move anymore :'(
Hope an expert will assist.
What stock rom are you on, is it ics? If so nandroid backups and restores are dangerous on stock kernel.
Try flashing stock gb with pc Odin and go from there. If it fails, post at what point ie factory.fs.

I might have flashed Abyss while on temp. Can't really remember.
What do I do now?
Anything else I can try?
Get Amazon to replace it?
Edit: I can't seem to get into clockwork recovery anymore. It just says "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again"
But I can get into the 'downloading' mode.
Help.
Wipes using Temp CWM.zip will result in brick
''Odin just stops at a certain point; yes it's at factory.fs''
that means you have bricked your phone.
So what can I do now?
Return to Samsung/Amazon?
Will they know that it was my fault?
Warranty
Go to recovery mode and check whether its showing binary counter 1 or above, ''Staus'' Official or Custom
If binary count is 0 and status is official you will get warranty
tell service center people that while updating new update via ota , your phone bricked
deleted
Flash GB
just pull out the battery. wait for 10 secs.. reinsert. go back to download mode..
use odin 1.85 and just select the tar.md5 fine in pda section..
Flash Gingerbread rom.

I will try that in the next 20 mins once the stock rom downloads.
To stop this happening again, could someone please, please, please post some noob friendly instructions on how I should flash a custom rom from stock.
I know someone might say 'just google it' or 'there are plenty of guides out there', but I was sure I had the steps nailed down otherwise I wouldn't have tried it.
It would be very helpful.
Especially to see exactly where I went wrong.
Anyway, thanks for all the info.

Yeah, I'm getting the stock GB (UK) rom from there.
Taking a while as a free user.
Thanks.
My Way of root + cwm (i have checked this in ICS only )
1. flashing safe kernels like hydracore 5.4 or Philz kernel 2.7 using PC odin
2. reboot
3. now you have root + CMW
4. open super su / superuse app
5. check for root access using Root Checker
6. Flash Supersu.zip in CMW if experience any root issues
7. now will be having stock ics with safe kernel and cwm.

Sorry, want to be as clear as possible.
Flashing Any Custom Roms
1. Flash Any Safe Kernel and reboot to recovery
2. do all 3 wipes (wipe data/factory, wipe cache partition, wipe dalvik cache)
3. Flash custom rom.zip
4. reboot
5. enjoy new custom rom

Thank you for all your valuable info.
I may put it to use if I have the courage to risk a replacement phone.
Will update thread shortly on how flashing to GB goes.
I won't hold my breath.
You won't be able to flash a ROM anymore. Odin will get stuck. DO NOT attempt to flash a custom kernel through PC Odin. It will RAISE your flash counter and then it will be obvious that you have messed with your phone, so warranty will be voided! There is another way to get recovery, just wait.....

So do I have any options other than to return the phone?

Did you tried to reflash the rom?
Or just flash a Safe Kernel like Hydracore first, then full wipes and flash stock ics rom via Odin.
Then reflash Safe Kernel and retry to flash 4.1.1 ROM.

Yes, the cwm recovery version might change but it should not affect the restore of your backup.
Nope, it shouldn't. Your version of CWM won't change unless you change it. When you flash a custom ROM, it changes /system and /data to name a couple. Your recovery doesn't get touched.

thx for both of u
but if i want to change my current custom kernel which is notecore v14.1 to another custom kernel such as PhilZ-cwm6 v3.72 ,should i do extra procedures or just flash it through pc/mobile odin or cwm recovery normally without any other steps??
As note 1 has the recovery built in the kernel, any change of kernel will change the recovery to what is included in the new kernel. This will not affect your backups. You can restore your old backups with new cwm. No special procedure, use mobile odin or cwm, pc odin will give you yellow triangle, increase counter.

That's unique, I've owned a couple Samsung devices and none of them ever had the recover built into the kernel. that doesn't make sense, but I guess it works.

Hey guys,
I have s3 mini. I wanted to flash 4.4 Kitkat on my phone. I needed to use TWRP recovery for that. So I removed ClockworkMod & installed TWRP.
Now,the problem is I have my stock rom(4.1.2) backed up using rom manager in ClockworkMod.
I tried installing ClockworkMod recovery using TWRP, but still TWRP recovery appears.
Is there anyway I can get ClockworkMod Back?

I think you need to use the same version of cwm that you used to take the backup. Example, if you did a backup with cwm 6.0.2.7 you only can restore it with cwm 6.0.2.7 not work with 6.0.2.8, I think, got it!?!

hello,
try this:
1. CWM flashes with your back up when you reboot freezes at startup because it finds the data folder or another (can not remember which) I think.
2. Then reboot into recovery again
3. flash back your backup again.
