[Recovery]TWRP recovery for Optimus 4X HD - LG Optimus 4X HD

Team Win Recovery Project (TWRP recovery) for LG Optimus 4X HD
Here's the TWRP recovery for LG Optimus 4X HD
Origin site http://www.591fan.com/thread-30056-1-1.html
Credit to @Dexter_nlb for BootStrape/CWM recovery work
HOWTO install
- If you installed the CWM reocvery by @Dexter_nlb, remember to press install recovery again, so the changes take effect.
- Get your o4x root'd,
- Download the APK file and install it
- after installation reboot mobile once (if you do not, the app might fail installing recovery)
- start the LG 4X Recovery app
- press - Install recovery - grant superuser access when prompted
--- Three option lines in the app: 1st Install Recovery, 2nd Reboot Into Recovery, 3rd Normal Reboot
- wait for success OK, if it fails, something is wrong or SU is not properly installed or denied su access. you should set permissions to granted for this app
- after successfull installation, you can press boot recovery and boot into the twrp recovery and make your backups or install custom roms
Click to expand...
Click to collapse
Warning && Issue
- DO NOT use the "Formate Date" function in wipe menu, this will make a soft brick, if U did this by mistake, U can reboot into stock recovery and run the "wipe date/cache" function to solve the soft brick.
- This recovery only supported the "standard update.zip" packages, this means some update.zip package which used none standard( EG: some cwm backup style update.zip for 4X HD atm) won't work on this recovery.
- For some reasons this recovery not support cwm bakcup package, only support TWRP backup package style(This is the TWRP issue). But, anyway, I'll make a patch for this later to support cwm backup package.

It doesn't support your P880G. Only the International P880.
Just do a factory reset. And you should be good.

Yes, of course...anyways, is there any development about this recovery? What about the possibility of reading/storing backups and roms from/to external sd? It would be a great feature!

After I flashed this my phone is now stuck on booting...any way to fix it ?

Just had a bit of a nightmare situation, and would like to offer this advice to people:
**Always check that TWRP automatically turns your screen off after a few seconds of inactivity! **
I didn't. I left it alone backing up for 45 minutes and when I got back the screen was flickering like crazy.
As a result of my negligence my phone screen was almost permanently damaged, and on reboot my WIFI and 3G connections both completely stopped working.
:crying:
Luckily I've managed to fix the connection issue by rolling back to ICS, and the screen appears to be returning to normal by itself.
But heed my warnings - the last three hours have not been fun.
Anyway, off to install CM10.1 now
:fingers-crossed:

Yes, I had the same problem!

i noticed the same but it also happened when screen was off.
i found out in some situations while using twrp the graphics chipsets updates the drawing parts (gui, ...) even if theres nothing more to update on the screen. it also does that when screen is "off"/timed out.
thats why i also took down my gbootmenu cause of twrp. dont want risk any possible damage to our devices.

But if it locked down, I turned the screen on , so i thought it was my fault...

TWRP 2.6
Is there already anywhere a TWRP 2.6 for P880 compiled ?

oh, finally 2.6 is out. will take a look on it and release it on my 2.5.0.0 thread.
this thread is outdated and not used by people with unlocked bootloader (it also didnt work for me with ics and locked bootloader)
edit: its out since 2 weeks, but the branch is still named twrp2.5, and the branch twrp2.6 is outdated so it confused me.
edit2: 2.6 released => http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2321124

My Optimus 2x is in a boot loop, help!

Hi,
I have a problem with my Optimus 2x, it is rebooting without end, like in a loop !
1-the phone turns ON, the LG logo appears

2-then the scrolling image appears
3-then after 2 seconds, the phone automatically shut itself OFF
4- and then the phone automatically turns ON again. We are looping back to 1- without end.
What can I do to fix this problem?
I have important Memo notes and sms I don't want to loose !!
For information, I have this phone since April. On May, I have rooted the phone using Super One Click. Since then the phone was working perfectly. I never flashed a ROM on the device. The problem happened just after a normal usage of the phone.
I really need your help..
Chris
Not sure why this would happen on stock rom with normal usage I've only encountered this problem after flashing other roms, I used nvflash but if you go down that route you will lose everything. Tried battery out and sim for a few minutes?

It was a stock ROM with normal usage. To be precise the problem arise, just after I selected the autorun option of the application Total Recall.
I have tried battery, sim, sd-card out, no success, the phone did not boot normally (not even once). As I can see nvflash is not an option as it is erasing everything.

Sorry, I didn't see your reply.
Kdz is only LG's firmware format.
All LG's phones can be flashed with kdz file by kdz tool (aka kdz updater).
Refer to this.
And Kdz tool at here.
and you have to need some kdz file for your p990.
(I have not but someone has it.)
In my case(su660) the type is "CDMA" and phonemode is "CS_EMERGENCY".
Request someone's advices more for p990.

Boot into recovery (holding Volume down and Power button) and factory reset, had the same problem yesterday when flashing CM7. Running fine now
I have looked at Smartflash, it is for flashing the Baseband (not the ROM itself), that means the software that has the GSM driver WiFi driver.
I don't see how Smartflash could help retrieving my phone with the important memos and sms.
Given that my phone is not booting, what can I do to retrieve the important memos and sms?
No, Smartflash will install stock ROMs in a .bin format as well.
Can you boot to recovery? (hold power and vol-)

As I have the stock recovery (the standard one that you get when buying the device), what will happen when I boot to recovery ? (does it do full erase of data?)
Four months ago I have rooted the phone using Super One Click. But I did not changed anything else: the recovery and the ROM are still the stock ones.
Yeah to the best of my knowledge, if you try and boot to the stock recovery, you will just get an automatic factory reset.

I quite liked it untill I failed to find a way to "power off"... Back to 5.0.2.8 for now.
Edit: But thanks The touch interface itself was a treat. The design made the direct "place finger on chosen option" approach, a little too clunky; but absolutely functional.
The real treat, was being able to use my touch buttons, rather than the mechanical power/volume buttons at the side and top of my phone.
Just a shame that there is'nt an option to shut down the phone for those of us with rebooting issues.

Yes, but rebooting seems to drastically increase the chances of my phone, not detecting my external SD card.
So CWM for me is something like:
1: Turn off phone ----> Pow + Vol = CWM
2: Power off when done with CWM
3: Turn phone back on.
Reboot and I'm going to have to have to shut down the phone regardless, because my external SD is'nt being detected.
I suspect it's because CWM mounts storage in one way, CM in another and LG stock in a third way; some sort of mounting information is carried over when rebooting and my storage management bugs out.

I'd still prefer for power off to be implemented into CWM Touch.
Shutting it down and turning it back on is faster than rebooting and it's not an option with RAMhack kernels either.

[Q] [I9001] SGS+ bricked/broken

Hey guys,
I own a SGS+ and tried to flash a ROM a few month ago.
Not sure which one it was in particular but it was a 4.1.2 ROM.
Normally it worked pretty well but that time it broke my phone apparently.
So now a few month later I tried to get it to work again.
My phone stucks at the splashscreen, easy said.
It boots till the splash screen and then it's on for about 3-4 minutes I guess and then the screen turns off.
But apparently it still runs because if I try to start it again over the power button it doesn't work.
I have to remove the battery, insert it again and then I can use the power button.
I tried several things and I'm out of information here.
So maybe one of you guys can help me out here?
Thanks for reading!
Try wiping cache an dalvik cache and fix permissions. If that doesn't help do a full wipe and install a new rom. If it still doesn't work, flash a stock rom via odin. Also, which recovery are you using?
Sent from my GT-I9001 using xda app-developers app
Already did everything you mentioned, multiple times.
Well I used at first CWM 6.0.1.2 then switched to 6.0.2.8, then 6.0.3.2, then 6.0.3.6 and then TWRP 2.4.0.0 and TWRP 2.6.0.0.
I tried those who should be for the bricked phones.
Try to flash a new kernel, then flash a new ROM. You should be able to get into download mode...

That's not the problem.
I can get into download mode, I could get into download mode all the time.
I don't think you got my problem right:
My phone stucks at the splash screen.
Doesn't turn off only screen turns off but the phone is still running.
I can only reboot if I take the battery out.
So it boots up to the splashscreen and stucks.
I flashed a few new roms and nothing worked.
If you can get into download mode, try flahing a stock rom via odin.

Maybe you didn't flash appropriate ROM for your device. Read this thread, especially the first post by our forum mate xsensman and try to check if it could be concerning also your device:

Mate, something is strange there. With splashscreen you mean bootloop, right? So you see the logo, but the phone doesn't really loads the Android?
OK, here we go: please remove the battery and write down your serial No and google a bit is it really i9001? There are about 20 different types of SGS so just to make sure which model do you have.
That bootloop can happen for several reasons, but I would assume that in your case it happens either for:
bootloader isn't working properly
you haven't flashed the proper ROM for your device.
I suspect very strongly the bootloader, so re-flashing the bootloader via Odin, theoretically, should revive your phone. Just check (as written above) do you REALLY have i9001, (as otherwise -if not- you could brick it with the bootloader for i9001):
First post, "5. Follow the instruction" (all files there)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=32144697
I'm 100% sure that I have a real i9001, not a special edition or something like that.
And I flashed before it got broken a few month and the roms worked just fine.
Well but then it broke somehow.
I just see that my phone with the CWM-Recovery can't format /data and hangs.
Can't do anything unless I remove the battery and boot up again.
Could this be a hint for you guys?

I have no idea what may that be, but are you sure your phone is bricked?
Have you tried to use normal TWRP 2.6 instead of that one for bricked phones?
I don't know, but maybe this helps:

@tetakpatak: Yes, I did it like the post "suggested".
@3L4CK_5C0RP10N: No, I'm actually not sure, that's why I wrote "bricked/broken".
I'm not the best guy at those things as you can guess.
No, I didn't tried the normal one, gonna try it now, atleast it's worth trying.
I read the post you linked me here and tried those things, unfortunately nothing happened.
Even tried it with ADB, also no solution found there.
But thanks already for the work guys!
suggest you try the following:-
1) power it down, remove battery, remove SIM card and Ext SD card and press and hold your power button for at least 30 seconds to a min, before reinserting battery and entering CWM recovery
2) In CWM recovery, enter Mounts and Storage and Format every partition, that can be formatted, repeat it twice ( You will lose all your data ) meaning you will be trying to get a clean environment for a fresh start. Do not reboot but pull out battery, press power for a few seconds and insert battery.
If you need your data, in mounts and storage, enter usb storage, here with usb connected to PC you can copy your entiere internal SDcard to PC, for salvage later.
3) get into Download mode, to flash the oldest i9000 Stock ROM 2.3.3 with AriesVe.ops using Odin 4.43 ( with ops ticked) How to flash follow this

[guide] [unbrick] [restore backup without sd card] [cwm] l90 (d415)

Here is a quick guide to restore a CWM backup without your SD card. After trying to flash something to remove the AM/PM from my devices status bar I ended up with a complete brick. I wiped the system and tried using adb sideload to push a backup i was given from (@LaDY Vengeance).. That didn't work. Today I decided to adb push each backup file to the CWM directory in the devices memory. Worked like a charm! This is how it's done.
First things first:
Use at your own risk. I am not responsible for anything that may happen to your phone.

OK so here we go. Your phone will need to be in CWM recovery. Get into recovery by powering on the device and holding volume down + power. Hold these two keys. Your device will power off. Continue to hold this combination until you see the LG logo. Press and hold this combination again. When asked if you want to factory reset go to yes. Go to yes again and you should boot into CWM recovery.
Now open up a new cmd prompt window.
Type adb devices (no quotes)
Make sure your device is listed under attached devices and it shows your device is in recovery like the image below:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Now make a backup.
Remember your backup name (this will be VERY important).
Next download this backup (thanks @rysk29).
Unrar to your desktop, we will be going in the extracted folder a bit so to make things a lot easier, leave it on your desktop.
After the backup is unrar'ed & your backup is complete (in recovery), return to your cmd prompt window.
You will be pushing each backup file to the backup folder you just made in recovery. Pushing each file will replace the existing files in the backup [emoji3].
In your cmd prompt type adb push (drag the first file from the backup folder on your desktop to the window) then type /sdcard/clockworkmod/backup/(yourbackupname)/
Your cmd prompt should look like this:
Press enter and let the file get pushed. You'll see this in the cmd prompt after the file was pushed:
Do this for all of the files. After all files are pushed, you can restore your backup and reboot. Your device should now be unbricked.
Thanks for all those who tried helping me fix my device! I hope this guide helps other

I sure went crazy....when I bricked, I felt my heart sink so fast. Then, when my brother told me it was bricked for good, I felt like my best friend died...hahaha.

It probably would have worked. I was just too much of a mess to even think.
Why not make nandroid backup before changing any system element? That way there's no need to use other's backup.

Because not everyone has been successful in creating a back up (like myself).

Should work because you're using adb sideload.

hi all, i'm desperate!
my LG L90 is hard bricked i think!!!
After OTA update to LOLLIPOP, obviously root was lost, so i retry to root the device on android 5 with a procedure found on this forum.
I don't know why, but after flashng all correctly the phone didn't reboot and bricked.
Now it's impossible to acces to recovery, download mode etc. so i can't do nothing....
Can you help me, please?
anyone??? strange
I have this issue where it will show the lg logo and also shows boot certification verify and then closes

Did you ever fix that issue?

Problem with the phone being off and charging

So, i have a issue when the phone is completely off. And it's when i plug in the charger the screen turns on with the charging animation and then

This pops up (Not my screenshot, found it on a reddit thread with the similar problem)
Now the question i have. Is there a permanent fix for it? I know if you hold the power button with volume up at the same time it'll start up after a while. But i'd just like my phone to start when i hold the power button.
Thanks in advance!
Edit: I propably should've posted my ROM and such. I'm using the stock ROM from a german forum named handy-faq. The reason for that is because i accidently wiped my original rom when i flashed a custom one.

I've had this problem with TWRP 2.8.1.0. Make sure your recovery is 2.8.5.0.

My TWRP version is indeed on 2.8.5.0, I've just restarted my phone in recovery to check.

You are one of the few people for whom the problem still persisted. Offline Charging(charging with the phone off) is governed by the recovery, which is why you see the warning message. The problem is with the recovery not being able to properly address Offline charging, which occurred for everyone on previous versions of TWRP. The newer version fixed this problem for me, you could try to redownload and flash TWRP again just in case.

I'm not. S-OFF will allow you to remove the warning message. It won't correct the problem with Offline charging in our device.

I reflashed TWRP 2.8.5.0, then shut it down and it still didn't work. Eitherway if there is some other way to fix it feel free to let me know.

I have the same problem. If you flash back to stock recovery it will work, even with a custom rom.
Also i've been fiddling with the settings for a bit, can you try the following?
Turn on fast boot and try again. This worked for me, as soon as i turned on fast boot it would charge normally while being off.
I've flashed multiple versions of TWRP and experience the same problem with all of them. Even with the stock rom.
Does anyone know how to get permission to execute 'fastboot erase recovery' ?
I want to wipe it completely and try again..
Btw it amazed me that apparently not everyone is experiencing this problem, so there has to be a solution.. somewhere. Csoul666 could you turn off the option for fast booting and try offline charging to check if this actually works? Problems remains the same for custom roms tho
i do have same problem with TWRP recovery unfortunately it is annoying but since i have 3 month now i kinda forget about it but when flash stock recovery no longer have the problem ! i hope in future update of TWRP will fix it
