One solution for Android device not showing in Windows Explorer - Nexus 4 General

This is a quick tip for people with Windows XP who do not see their USB connected Android device in Explorer.
I had the correct cable, MTP mode enabled, the latest USB drivers and the computer was recognizing my phone as
an MTP device but it wasn't showing in Windows Explorer.
It turns out the problem is that the MTP protocol came after Windows XP so it needs to be installed.
The only way to do that is to install the Windows Media Player 10 or newer.

Was USB debugging enabled? I disabled it and it shower up right away.

This particular problem was there with and without USB Debugging.
I also had trouble installing the driver with USB Debbuging turned on.
My problem is that I had manually disabled Windows Media Player years a go because I hate it that much.
I posted this to give people in my situation the heads-up because it took me forever to figure it out.

USB Debugging mode

So I'm having an issue connecting my captivate to my Windows 7 64bit machine. (Seems to be a common problem) I've installed the drivers from the posts on these forums. I have changed the USB settings to Mass storage also. If I plug my phone in, Windows will "sometimes" recognize it and the internal and external SD will show up in "My Computer" This only happens sometimes and moving the plug to other USB ports gets it to recognize. I'm then able to mount and everything works fine. But the problem I'm having is USB debugging mode. Any time I have this turned on and plug my phone in, Windows will "attempt" to install a driver but after awhile fail. I've tried to manually install the drivers but no luck. Anyone know why just USB debugging will not work? I tried it on my friends computer who has the exact same version of Windows and the exact same drivers for the phone and it works find every time I plug it in, USB debugging or not. So strange.
Thanks
Try a different USB port on your PC.

Ok so got it working with the back USB port... so strange that I have to do that. Is this something that will be fixed in the future?

I don't think anyone knows where the problem lies. Seems more likely it is the PC or a windows 7 x64 issue.

Enabling USB Debugging

Hey guys, my girlfriend recently purchased an LG Thrill, beast of a phone, and I've been meaning to do some app testing with it but I can't seem to get USB Debugging to work. If I connect the phone to my computer with debugging off it will give me to option to mount storage as intended, but as soon as I enable USB Debugging the computer will no longer recognize the device. The notification that debugging is enabled pops up for a second but then goes away.
Has anyone else come across this issue?

Do you have !both! drivers installed from LG? I think that's your problem.
Make sure you have all the drivers. One of my friends had this issue also.

Yeah, installing drivers fixed the problem. I don't know why I thought all Android devices would use the same ADB drivers. Thanks for the help guys.

Samsung Captivate non-existent when plugged in via usb to windows

Ok, so I just got this samsung captivate and I want to root it. I can't get anywhere close to rooting it because when I plug it in via USB, windows doesn't do anything. I have my phone set to USB debugging and sometimes I have to unplug/replug the mini usb from the phone several times before it actually goes into "USB Debugging" mode. I have installed the necessary drivers but windows still does not acknowledge that I am even plugging in the phone via USB. I have tried downloading kies and that didn't work either. I don't think anything is going to work until I can make windows acknowledge that the USB device is even connected. I have also tried the *#7482# trick and it didn't help. Could it be another setting on my phone or something that is preventing my phone from connecting to my computer? It is really starting to agitate me because I want to get rid of all this crappy bloatware.
Maybe this stickied thread in the General forum can help... Captivate Connection Issues....

Turn USB debugging off and check if it sees it then...

[Q] Nexus 6 no longer recognized by PC

The last time I plugged my Nexus 6 into the computer was to root it.
All went well. However, now some time later when I plugged in my phone no response from the computer.
I have plugged it in to both a Linux and Windows 7 computer.
Any ideas?

Go to settings>storage. Then press three dots on the upper right corner. See if mtp option is checked. If it is checked and still you computer doesnt recognize your device, try installing driver.

Ugh... Still nothing
Well I grabbed the Motorola cable to see if that would help and by golly it did!
Not sure why a standard Monoprice micro usb cable was not working...

Nexus won't show on my computer when i plug it in

It was showing up fine, but when i rooted it, it wont show up anymore.
Have u checked Dev settings to see if USB debugging is checked?
If it is, plug the phone into ur PC, then turn off USB debugging, and turn it back on. Your phone should prompt you to enable connection to the PC. Check the box to accept and you should b goof to go. (That's what worked for me)
did u install the right drivers? its kinda picky on windows 8

I had this and it drove me crazy. My laptop was also playing up so in the end I re-installed Windows (8 Pro) on that which solved a host of things and now it sees my Nexus 6.

wow you did this really ? this is my office computer so i cannot risk it. I use airdroid work very good and fast
Go to Device Manager and check if you can change the Nexus from ADB drivers to MTP. If it doesn't show MTP driver as an option, I had to switch off USB Debugging under Developer Options for the Nexus before Windows gave the MTP options. Otherwise, I'd try installing one of those Universal Android Driver tools.
