i9000 Data Roaming yes or no? - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys so as it says in the title... do you guys have Data Roaming ticked or unticked?
As for some reason I experience some signal drops here in the UK with Orange so am not sure if its down to the carrier

Mobile Networks [2 simple questions]

Under Mobile Networks:
1 - Do you have Data Roaming checked? Mine is... but I noticed my Nexus One is not. Curious if this matters.
2 - Under Network Operators... are you guys selecting T Mobile or Select Automatically? I assume I need to just click on T Mobile since I would not get 3G on another provider (AT&T) right?
Very basic I know, I was just comparing the 2 phones and trying to find the differences.
Anyone? I didn't think it was too hard of a question, ha.
Bump, sorry.
Data roaming off
I didn't read about what that is, but when you voice roam you are out of range of your normal carrier and any voice services in roaming are super expensive. I suspect the same for data, except since data is on all the time you will get charged once you enter a roaming zone.
As for providers, just stick with manual selection.

No idea but R is definitely for roaming
its simple... the MCC MNC of the sim card dosent match the MCC MNC of the phone... same thing appen to me when i where used my htc dream on bell network, on cocked rom or not... for the 3g icon be sure to enable data when roaming in your network setting...
sorry for my english i'm french
i want to specify you will never be charged as roaming even you stay on fido network and you cant do nothing for the R in the signal bar... it's normal you will learn to live with that...
Seems like Canada Fido is borrowing somebody else's network, you're roaming cos the connected network isn't the same as the simcard's network name.

In some cases, a carrier uses other carrier's network by agreement, it's a kind of national roaming, with no extra costs for you.
Some will say that the Android OS cannot "see" the difference between this kind of "national roaming" from real roaming and then you get the little "R" all the time visible next to the signal bars.
On the other hand some will say that your Carrier should (if it's really is borrowing network), provide the right codes to avoid this confusion.
Btw, you say "european i9000". Why? did you tried another version before?

the european version is the only one I have just so let people know it is
2G Network GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
3G Network HSDPA 900 / 1900 / 2100
i think fido need UMTS/HSPA 850MHz and/or 1900MHz and the frequency most widely used is the 850MHz so this is why you dont get 3g... only edge conection... you will probaly get 3g in some regions...
may be your best way to get 3g is selling your i9000 and buy another one with the right hspa band...

[Q] Network problems after Gingerbread update

After updating to Gingerbread, the signal bar goes from full to nothing.
I also cant access 3G speeds now.........
Mt network provider is AT&T
and I pay a monthly data plan for it too
can anybody help? :/
In settings, about device, wjat is your baseband? The last three characters should be JK3.
Did you flash the correct modem.bin?
Did you insert your sim correctly?
Did you check your apn setting ( settings, wireless settings, mobile network, apn)?

[Q] TeamHacksung ICS Build 3 MVNO

This is a small issue but is anyone using ICS with a MVNO? I have a Virgin mobile SIM which uses the Everything Everywhere network in the UK (Orange/T-Mobile).
When the phone is using the orange network the notification drawer correctly displays this, but when on the T-Mobile network 'No service' is displayed.

Since you managed to flash ICS on your device I suppose you're comfortable doing some more hacking
Try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=12693880&postcount=5
Maybe look at the file first and check if your provider is the one mentioned in the Finland section.
We are now in build 13 and we still get that roaming icon if we are using a MVNO
this method didn't work for me
I have the same problem with spanish Yoigo
Teamhacksung ICS MVNO roaming problem
same problem on build 16
HELP please !!
anything new about MVNO support? on my galaxy nexus in ics MVNO works without a hack, it`s not treated like a roaming network. somewhere in the process of porting to I9000 this stock ics behavior got lost. would be nice to have a better solution then switching data off in frontier areas.

roaming on ATT 920 flashed to Rogers GDR2

I flashed my ATT 920 to the Rogers GDR2/Amber rom and now I'm noticing the Triangle icon a lot which means i roaming on another network. Before flashing I have never had this. I do have bad Att recepition in my area and would often get no cell reception. The phone tile shows that I'm on ATT. Is there any way to find out what network im actually connected to? My phone isn't unlocked and I have the AP and cellular setting pointed to Att 3G. I have data roaming turned off but im afraid im going to get hit with roaming talk/text charges if that exist with att.
You will not get roaming charges when you are physically on your home network, regardless what the phone tells you.
The reason why it shows roaming is probably because the firmware is set to use Rogers as home network and anything else is roaming.
Another reason why you may get bad reception maybe Rogers ROM does not have all the baseband for AT&T activated/optimized.
You can try to re flash to AT&T with dead phone flash and see if it makes a difference.
