[Q] problems about CM10-1209 - Nook HD, HD+ Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
Sorry to post this question here instead of the CM10 development thread, but I'm new here and could not post in development section.
With verygreen's new updated version of CM10 binary and CWM finally I made CM10 installed. However, I've confronted several error:
1. it keeps showing that android keyboard(AOSP) has stopped. I tried to clean the data and cache of Android keyboard, but still no luck;
2. both the hard and soft home button are no working. I have to press back for several times to get back to home-screen.
What should I do here? Thank you!
FYI:I'm using 8gb sandisk class 10 microSD, 16gb Nook HD+ running on 2.0.4
Updated: problem 2 was fixed by install gapps-20121011

Suggestions
1. Had the same, also on a CM10 based rom on a Nexus 7. Easiest way around it is to install a 3rd party keyboard and set that to be the default.
2. Not had any issues with Home not working myself, maybe try a reflash? Do you get the same issue with the previous release of CM10 ?

I'll try put a 3rd party keyboard. Thank you.
I reflashed several times and still no luck. I did have the same situation with the first release and hoped the newer version could fix it but it doesn't.:crying:

I think verygreen pulled the 1209 and replaced it with a 1210 due to some kernel issues of consequence. Suggest you upgrade asap.

[Q] aospCMod | AOSP 2.3.2 (Gingerbread) [02/09/2011]

I need help please. My phone is not in a good place.
Here's my current state:
AOSP 2.3.2 (Gingerbread) [02/09/2011] installed
Home Button doesn't work
Phone Button doesn't work
No Market app installed so can't download anything
Browser works
Incoming calls don't work
Outgoing calls do work
Lock screen doesn't show up
Probably many more issues with things I haven't tested
Here's how I got there:
1) Installed AOSP 2.3.2 (Gingerbread) [02/09/2011] with Firerat's Mod
2) Everything seemingly worked well. Was prompted by Market to install all of the google apps
3) The apps from Marketplace didn't install. I ended up finding the "fix the Market" link on the Wiki and that solved the problem
4) Installed the core apps but some wouldn't install - like Voice Search - failing with an Insufficient Space error I believe
5) Started revisiting the parameters for the Firerat mod (mtdpartmap.txt) and reflashing the FR-boot
6) Didn't solve problem so decided to flash/wipe/reinstall AOSP 2.3.2 again
7) Got me to the state I'm in now. I tried 3 more times, still this is happening.
Going to try now with the 20110210 build and see if that's better. I see there's a fix for the lock screen so maybe it's related. Meanwhile, has anyone seen these symptoms before?
Thanks!

Sorry to hear about that, but I would recommend you to follow the steps from here: http://romrepo.info/wiki/index.php?title=Install_from_another_ROM. Try doing it without Firerat's MOD. Perform step # 2 - 2 to 3 times, before you flash the ROM.
Try and report back. Hope it helps.
SOLVED
2/10/2011 update solves this problem!
When you flash a different Ron, you need to go through the whole from process starting with fr- recovery after wiping/formatting everything. I have had troubles with 2/10. Maybe bad download. I get a weird keyboard error and it wants to send Google a report and can't get by that to start signing in.
I flashed on top of 2/6 yesterday, but still had VVM problems. I finally got that sorted out with 2nd method in GB wiki and started new TB folder.

noob needs answers to noob questions

i got a 1.2 nook in today.
wrote an image to my 8gb to get clockwork recovery. after that, i used manualnooter.
reboot and everything looked good. i could open android market and whatnot but since im an android cell phone user, i wanted cyanogen mod on my nook
flash the latest nightly/gapps but couldnt get past the "touch the android to begin screen." did the four corners trick and it worked but there was no android market and googletalk wouldnt work (i would press it and it would auto close itself)
then i flashed miui, got a bunch of FCs.
then i flashed phiremod, same problems as the latest CM mightly.
my questions:
1. whats the most stable rom?
2. im use to everything working on my phone, are there just some things that are not going to work on the NC? obviously text messages and phone arent.
3. how do i get android market on there (so i can get google maps/youtube/etc)?
thanks
You probably need to repartition your nook if it came with 1.2 pre-installed

i dont know why but im about to partition it
any reason why i should be doing this?
The new nook colors have a different partition system than the old ones. Sometimes affecting installs.

[GUIDE] Install CM7 + Clockworkmod to EMMC - ALL NOOKS! (Updated:7/30/11)
eyeballer said:
This guide is intended to take you through the (mostly windows-based) steps needed to replace your internal nook rom with CM7, gapps and clockworkmod recovery 3.2.0.1 (latest as of 6/5/11) all on EMMC. This will work coming from any previous rom, including the latest stock software (excluding dual boot set ups, not supporting that here), no previous rooting is needed for a new nook, however don't forget to boot stock and register the device before flashing to CM7.

sweet! repartitioning did the trick. market is up and running
however, some applications i cant install. i can search for it and click on it but there is no install button => Facebook, Groupon
did some google searching, says its a problem with the new market. can anyone confirm this? one solution was to force stop/clear data on the market application. tried that and it didnt work. help would be appreciated
edit:
found a thread for my problem: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1207811
for future nc searchers: uninstalled market updates under manage applications in the settings.

[Q] Rooted NC wifi stopped working

I have been running MN 4-6-16a on NC software version 1.3 for over a year now. It's not totally stable (I get some freeze-ups occasionally & have to reboot) but it's workable. The other day, my wifi stopped working. Wifi goes off, and when I turn it on, it can't find my router, I get a black box that says 'unable to scan for networks', and it stops responding and the Nook asks me if I want to force close wifi. If I select 'wait' instead of force close, wifi shuts off.
Router works fine, other devices are connected. I have searched other threads, and it seems that some suggest installing CM7, though these suggestions are from a year ago.
Is there something more current I sould be running that would fix this problem. Suggestions would be greatly appreciated for this newbie.

The latest ROM for Nook Color is CM10 Jellybean 4.1.2 with a 3.08+ kernel. You can install it on a SD card and try it.If you like how it works you can install it internally. There are great tips threads you can utilize to help get you to the latest ROM. I use CM10 internally on my Nook Color. My other Nook Color has CM7.1 (gingerbread with 2.6.32 kernel). CM10 is running pretty smooth and just as fast as CM7.2.

Wow, that thread has 155 pages ... hard to get through all that .... I did read the first page, though
OK, so I should download CM10 latest nightly version & install ... I don't seem to have a way to back up my data or current ROM since I don't have an internet connection that works. Yes, I could install to SD, but I've read that there can weird problems with this? So I was going to jump right in to an internal install, but it looks like I will lose data for my apps. Is there any advantage to downloading CM7 instead of 10? I ask only because I found a good site with good (newbie) instructions on doing CM7, and the site I found for CM10 has some stuff that I don't completely understand.
Really, I don't have great aspirations for using my NC ... I just need wifi to work so I can access my apps, and that's the only reason I am looking at flashing a new ROM. Is this the only way to go to fix wifi?

For SD card cm10 installation (use Sandisk class 4 or 6)
Here is LeapinLar's thread to get you started http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1941858
Get the latest CM10 nightly here http://get.cm/?device=encore
Make sure to use Gapps 20121011.
Here are the steps involved to make a bootable sd card:
Unzip the ...Rev5.zip
Use program Win32diskimager.exe to write the above unzipped image to SD card
Copy latest Cm10 nightly to sdcard (do not unzip)
Copy gapps 20121011 to SD card (do not unzip)
Safely eject SD card from computer
Backup your Nook apps/data to separate SD card or computer. If you have Clockwork Mod Recovery installed do a nandroid backup on sd
Turn off Nook Color
Insert SD card you created above
Turn on Nook color
Watch the Cm10 splash screen come to life.
Have you tried rebooting your Nook color to see if it can attach to your router?
CM7 is dated on gingerbread and 2.6.32 kernel. CM10 is Jellybean on 3.08+ kernel.
If you prefer rooted stock firmware 1.4.3 check out this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1494901
Many thanks, hwong96! I followed the directions and got CM10 working on an sd and wifi works fine. I am going to take a look at upgrading the stock software and then rooting to see if I can get that working as well, as I prefer the B&N interface/look-and-feel. But in the meantime, at least I have a functioning tablet again. Thank you!

Issues With Touchpad

Hello, I have had a touchpad for some time and but CM9 and CWM on it some time ago, but it started having some issues recently. So I figured I should try and reinstall a newer version of CM and start from scratch.
I went to this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2026692 and downloaded both the skz+tenderloin-1.10.zip and the gapps zip.
I then placed those into the Download folder on the touchpad.
This is where things took a turn. I rebooted to get into CWM, upon selecting it from the boot menu it kept restarting back to the boot menu. After a few tries it got into CWM. I then wiped the data and did a factory reset, wiped the cache, and then wiped the dalvik like the post said to do. I then went to install zip from sdcard. Found the skz+tenderloin zip and chose to install that. CWM says it starts to install but then before the progress bar fills up at all...it resets back to the bootloader.
At this point I am at a loss with what to do and I would really appreciate any help I can get with this.
UPDATE: I figured starting from scratch would be the best bet, so I have uninstalled CM9 and CWM using ACMEUninstall. Now I am wondering if it is worth using CM10 as my default Android or should I stick with the best CM9.
Either way, if I should use CM9 or 10 can someone either help me or point me in the right direction for the best tutorial on doing this properly?
Restore a backup then DL an updated version of CM9 to flash or upgrade to ACMEInstaller3 to give you a larger system partition along with the latest version of CWM in order to install a CM10 rom apart from oats which does not require the extra space .
There are numerous guides and you should probably read up on a little bit before just flashing a rom to avoid the problems you are having .

The issue I am encountering is there is a ton of info out there, some outdated some not. I restored back to stock webOS with nothing else. I have ACMEInstaller 3 in the Palm directory, so I am ready to install the most stable/best CM9 currently out there, I just don't know which tutorial is the best one to follow. Could you perhaps just link me to one you recommend?

Should I use CM10 or stick with 9? People say there are still issues with it and it's more of a preview build and not really meant to be used as your standard OS.

I installed CM9 based on the link above with the AIO package. It worked flawlessly, hopefully my freezing/restarting issues happen less often now. Thanks to all who offered help.

[Q] Just soft bricked my brother's cappy

Hi all.
Greetings from Mexico. So this day I tried to install CM 10.2 to my brother's Captivate. I follow my own set of instructions since I already have CM 10.2 on my Nexus S. I had to install it twice, in order to partition the phone (I don't recall that on Crespo). So it goes into boot but keeps spinning the ring with the blue face in the middle. It's been an hour and still doesn't boot. I tried flashing back to 10.1 or 10.1 experimental with same results, even that it had been working on CM 10.1. Any ideas? I can still use CMW. Thanks in advance.

You should read the full instructions before flashing. You'll have to flash CM7 first.

Thank you for your reply.
The phone already had CM 10.1 since it came out. And yesterday I did a factory reset, clean cache, clean dalvik, flashed CM 11 snapshot M2 and gapps with ART support, and it worked! Phone it's back the way it should. Now I'm just waiting for full ART implementation in future versions... and it seems purring quite well now. Cheers!

Stick with Dalvik VM on Captivate. ART is still experimental, requires more RAM and much better hardware. You won't see any advantages on Captivate; just the opposite - less RAM available for running apps and Android system will start closing inactive processes much sooner.
