Razr i development future - RAZR i Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, is there any reason why on Razr i isnt yet any development, any custom ROM - especially Cyanogenmods...? Is it because of diferent proc.technology, or simply isnt this device interesting for developer, or need only wait?? Thanks!
I want to change my Razr for Razr i, but I'm afraid for the development of this phone. (for razr M is already Cyanogenmod and other custom roms, but "M" isnt for EU martket...

There's many reason, in 1st jelly bean will be update in the beginning of 2013 so why spend time to develop rom on ics while they will be ou of date in 1month? Second, it's only the 2nd phone with intel processor x86 and in 3rd the phone isn't LTE and not dvp for usa so i think it's a little bit out of date compare the new phone like the razr M for example.
But don't worry, in one month you can be sure that rom will be develop, just waitting for the JB update .
Ps: we have a custom rom named AMBP pro by papi92!

Yeah, Papi will give us some nice stuff to play, after JB is released. And I guess some ice cold Arctic Stuff will come, too

More like BatakangROM now
You can check it out on the RAZR HD and Atrix HD. Its jellybean and smooth as stock should have been. I love it but of course I made it to be tailored to my interests.

New leaked dates for ICS

So I just found a leaked screen shot of Verizon's upgrade schedule to ICS!
http://www.ubergizmo.com/2012/04/verizon-ic-update-schedule-leaked/
So the HTC Rezound should get the OTA next week on May 9th. The RAZR and RAZR MAXX will be getting the OTA in three weeks. But no mention of the Bionic... Oh yea, they decided to give us the .904 update while they finalized ICS for the newer phones. We just got shafted again.
Then again, its tough to know what is actually going on because they have to keep everything confidential. I doubt this would be case but if VZW and MOTO were having issues with ICS on the Bionic, I would have no problem giving them more time to make it right. But from what we've seen, it doesn't appear to be that innocent.
You do realize that we are a low priority because the phone isn't selling well, right? RAZR's the front-runner, making it a priority. We'll get ours by July, if we're lucky.
And yes, I am being a little pessimistic, but Motorola and Verizon need to step up their game already. Moto's making too many devices and Verizon's forcing bloat too much. That's what is slowing us down.
re
I don't understand what is really taking that long. Development will continue on the latest and greatest but that doesn't mean we should get the shaft. I picked the bionic over the thunderbolt because I like the slightly thinner phone and longer screen even though it cost more.didn't think I would be buying a dead phone in terms of development. I should have just got the razr
I have Rooted 904 update Safestrap dual boot eclipse 2.2
My view is the Bionic is a phone they would prefer to forget. The Razrs are the hot phones so they get the priority. Maybe I woukd complain much more without ICS ROMs available.
It's interesting that on Moto's site the RAZR's are all listed as ICS upgradeable but the Bionic is not.??

There are ICS ROMs available for the Bionic. I've held off on flashing one because its my understanding that they are unstable and have missing features. Please correct me if i'm wrong.

That's a pretty big oversight, mentioning the RAZR on the Bionic page like that... Now is that the mobile site only, or is it on the full site too?
That's the full site. It says RAZR. Read the spec's on all the phones and Bionic does not have 'ICS Upgradeable'. I think we're getting swept under the rug.

if you click on the motorola support forums link where it says that it takes u to a page explaining which devices are getting ics and the bionic among others is on that list but yeah :/ it will prolly be a while. maybe we can get lucky with cheesecake.
Guys why is this even a topic. It's been confirmed we are getting official ICS by several sources along with moto. The ICS source code was released a little over a month ago, that helped out the devs. We have a solid device for the price and we have devs good enough to keep us happy and get us through until mid to late summer when we get the real thing.
ICS source was released 6 months ago. That doesn't help matters since we don't have an official release, an unlocked bootloader, or a real ICS kernel, however.

It's time to have a full-working ICS' Rom for our O2x?

Look here! http://developer.nvidia.com/linux-tegra What do you think? Video Encoding/decoding and H/w bugs can now solved? ???
As a lot of developers said, this is for linux, not for android so it's useless
Oh my God... please use the search button! Please! This is not for android, but for Linux! If you read the date of publishing you can understand that it is impossible that our developers don't know it, and do not open a new thread for this in developement section!
There is an identical topic in general created today...

ohhh. thought at least video and graphics processors where the same
At this moment, none of the three handsets with Tegra 2 (LG P990/P999/SU660, Motorola ME860/MB860, Samsung GT-I9103) have official ICS ROMs.
At the same time, these 3 manufacturers have rolled out ICS updates for other devices, so it's not like they don't know how to work with ICS.
Feel free to draw your own conclusions on who should be blamed for this frustrating situation of our devices. I know, though, who NOT to buy from again (hint: it's not LG).
And before someone say T2 tablets getting ICS, tablets != phones. I don't think any T2 tablets even have a 3G radio, so the chip can be of a completely different SKU and hence incompatible binaries.

Why ?
Nvidia probably gave the sources to lg (and other companies) before the public ics release
It is not up to nvidia to update the device to ICS it is up to lg but they are busier with newer phones
You would do the same if you were owner of lg it is about making money not about supporting old devices
Priority 1 new phones
Priority 2 software updates for the new phones
Priority 3 support for old phones
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
nah I just like your general attitude towards building ROMS for this phone! its great to have a good community right?
I agree though with your logic...its just a truth that I choose not to accept since I did buy this phone nay a year ago for a hefty sum of money. I just want LG to give you guys the sources so we can all have fun and leave them alone (and get me that ICS fun)
Yeah I don't know why LG don't just "leak" the ics testing rom for O2X which I'm sure does exist in the deepest realm of LG.
That way it would get us lot of their back, they could concentrate on the newer phones, and nobody would care about the official release of ICS for O2X anymore
As someone who has had several LG phones I can safely say that once they have released a phone LG tends to stop giving a crap about it.
I think it's not in the LG itself, because no one with a Tegra 2 is not received ICS. Samsung has updated all the models, but it has not updated the model Galaxy R, but we know how well does the Samsung firmware! I think there is some sort of a different problem!
Nvidia probably gave the sources to lg (and other companies) before the public ics release

It depends on the quality of the company, after a very long supported samsung Galaxy S, even when the market was a Galaxy S2.
The company realized the essence of Samsung Android devices, such as to make them attractive to buyers - do quality support. Other companies do not understand this, because the coolest gadget, without the support - a piece of plastic!

Bump? *hopeful*
Before the end of the year - but they don't say which year. I expect the Razr M might get it before the i, as there is talk of soak tests. Being Intel may delay things a little but no one has had any conformation as yet. Not much help
Sent from my XT890 using xda premium
I don't think Intel delaying anything. Intel published x86 jelly bean image early September.
Jelly bean for x86 is ready... It's now only a mater of Motorola to integrate it.

GOOD NEWS! - Reply from Motorola Brazil
I just spoke with Motorola Brazil and they representant just told me that Motorola is already updating the devices razr I and HD to jelly bean, in a random way.
I asked confirmation and he confirmed as we can see in the print screen (it is in portuguese, if someone does not believe, try to translate in google translator).
Hopefully, Motorola will surprise us.

- how may i help?
- is there any precise date you can give me for the release of JB for the razr I?
- Motorola has already made it available for this model, however, it is being done in batches OTA, i ask that you wait for the notification in your device
- for the razr I? really?
- or the razr HD?
- JB has been made available for the razr I and razr HD, it is predicted that it will be available for all of the razr line till march/2013
- but i see no one talking about JB being available for the razr I online, only for the HD
- when i try it myself, it says there's no update
- is there a faster way? through legitimate channels?
- as i said it is being done in batches OTA and is not available on the motorola web site
- i understand

Agreed. They might keep their promise, but most likely release 4.1 long after 4.2 is already out.
IMO they need to quit bowing to the carriers. Make their handsets according to the original principles of the Open Handset Alliance - fully open source, fully unlocked. If the carriers don't like it, tough, let them make their own damn locked phones. After enough consumers get burned by the lock-in, they'll all start choosing unlocked phones.

I'm posting this from a D4 on Jellybeans but I'm still glad to hear this. I think it will go a long way towards making people feel they can trust Motorola again, which as we can see from a few other posts here many people do not.
The real question in my mind is, what will come first, the DROID 5 or the official JB upgrade? What I want to see are updates the drop shortly after AOSP does, not a year later...

I'm pretty sure this article was labeled as untrue rumor. Android 4.2.2 won't be a the next codename of android. I'm pretty sure we will be getting JB 4.1 since that's what Moto promised to us earlier this year. Honestly, I don't think any devices with less than 2GB will get Android 4.2 other than stock Android devices.

Razr i development future

Hi, i have a Motorola defy and i want to buy a razr i, But first i want to know if this device Will have cyanogenmod and active development.
And besides i want to know if it Will be a good purchase.
Thanks in advance and greetings from argentina
Sent from my MB526 using xda premium
In my view, it will be certainly a good purchase, but the chance of the device receiving a 'non-stock-based' ROM like CyanogenMod, as things are now, is very low. The sources released by Motorola are broken.
Things may well change in a very near future, but that is my hope and nothing more concrete than that (again, considering things as they are now).
BTW, I must say I am having the 'smoothest' and 'closest-to-pure-android' experience in a stock ROM ever. I'm really happy with it.

In raw performance, the S3 will surely beat the RAZR i. But it seems legit that the perceptive performance, mainly general usage of apps and system features, is on par with the S3. I haven't had a S3 in my hands to really attest it, though.
The camera produces lots of noise on dark photos. LOTS of noise. But overall it is fine, if you don't expect your phone to replace a dedicated camera for the most demanding situations.
AW: Razr i development future
Its fast at opening apps fast st browsing loading pages and JScript overall the best with the iPhone.
It doesn't bench bad, at CPU and memory its very fast while the GPU performance is bad, good enough for all games with some reduced details though.
If you want a fast phone with good battery life and compact size its RAZR I or iPhone 5.
If u can live or even want it big go s3, nexus4 they are good phones, the one x plus is good too but its expensive.

All I know is that they did release new sources, but haven't seen anyone built it successfully yet nor use it to build a device tree for a custom ROM.
If you know something else, please share with us.

The problem was that at the very beginning the source packages / one of the source packages was corrupted, which means that it was not extractable. This was fixed in November or December according to the razr i sourceforge page. Now you can download and extract all files. The fact that nobody was able to compile it does not mean that they gave us bad sources!!! Its just not completely easy and needs some experience ...
