Hey there...
2nd-boot seems to be a really great thing on our phones...
now i have one question:
Which changes do i have to make to get 2nd-boot work with old Roms?
I have an old MIUI rom which was for daily use till now and i would like to have it running with 2nd-boot.
is there a way?
and if yes... how it's done?
Thanks
I think you should ask around on the #milestone-modding IRC channel.

There are lots of new roms out since 4.1.11 and I am wondering what is the general thoughts on his new version? Is it better than the last one? Is another rom better?
No one can tell you honestly what's the best ROM cos there simply isnt one universal one. Everyone have their own preferences. But IF there was a best ROM, it would be undoubtedly cyanogen's. And that's saying alot. In Cyanogen we trust
It really depends on the person. I currently use 4.1.11 and love it. I've use most of the roms out there and prefer his the best. Your best bet is to try each one out for a few days and see which one suits your needs. Use the rom switcher script, there is a link in my sig, to back up your roms so you can easily switch back when if you like one over another. Cyanogens are by far the most popular and typically don't require anything special. His is a good rom to begin with.
It isnt the BEST...well...because its BETA...his next should be the BEST!!! (IMHO).....But..To each their own.
I love the 4.1.11.1 it`s stable for me. But 4.1.99 is the new tree for following updates!
I think

It depends on what you want...i personally think its slower than his older builds before bfs...(i use hero now)
are we going to get any other roms from different phones ported to the nexus one?? have not seen anything??
Why would you assume we could even do that? All the phones run Android. And they all have different drivers for their various hardware differences.
Porting a rom would be to pull just the Android part out of it, and put it on the Nexus. Which is already what we have.
If you mean porting the different launchers/icons/widgets that is done all the time. And we have a lot of things like that.

The Desire's been ported by Paul. If you want something broken, download one of King's many ports.
well for example i was able to use the blur rom on my g1 and even the slide rom on g1 and port 2.2 on g1 and such why is that we only get the desire rom?? not droids roms or even the new galaxy ? idk is it possible? or not?
it would be great to maybe see the galaxy s rom ported over to the nexus one....anyone out there know how to do this?? or even the evo or droid x roms ported over to the nexus one?? is this possible...???

Well, maybe becoz the N1 has the latest Android version and porting stuff from earlier Android versions is not always possible... the Desire had 2.1 and now has a leaked 2.2, and is very much similar to the N1, so porting is possible... if stuff like blur was written for Android 2.1/2.2, I'm sure we'd see blur roms for the N1....
dont the droix x run one 2.1 and also the galxay rom run on 2.1 cant nexus one go back to 2.1 i still can use 2.1? on a rooted version of n1?
i just hope we all will be able to seen some roms realease coming soon
Yes, instead of developing proper Nexus AOSP ROM, porting newer graphic driver, enabling 720p and FM radio, etc - let's spend the time porting a zillion of different ROMs, with whatever features that won't work..
Or maybe not.
um look at the desire rom for nexus one...do we have one actually works all features yet or still not properly working?? and im just asking quiestion no need to be rude about it n crap....

Well, the Nexus and Desire have very similar hardware... so it was easier to port considering less driver problems... besides the DroidX is new and the Desire's been out for quite a while... maybe we'll see a DroidX firmware port in a while... maybe we won't...
okay here is my idea... im the type of guy that wants the best of both worlds.. maybe im asking for 2 much.. but how hard would it be to put some of ics's features ie. the notifications bar and task manager and launcher in stock gb with out all the bloatware and still be able to have complete functionality with phone.. camera video bluetooth wifi ect... im a noob to all this sooo there may be something along the lines already made or in the works.. but hey i had to ask... id be whilling to help out anyway i can.. id like to learn and i think it would be a good opurtunity...

Holo launcher has alot of what you're asking. We can't exactly make a hybrid of GB and ICS because..... well just cause you need a base OS. Either ICS or GB. And ICS has alot of features that just wouldn't work for GB base because of GB limitations and kernel limitations. Hashcode has implemented his own kernel which he is working tirelessly on for SEVERAL devices, although the D3 is the only one with 512MB of RAM, which makes it even harder to do this. Despite all this, the only thing really not working on Hash's CM9/10 is the camera, which he is also working on.

Hash made two versions of ICS/JB, one that was running ICS using the GB kernel, where rapmv78, another XDA user made a workaround hack that made the camera work partially, not fully (ie. no video function). Those ROMs that were running ICS on the GB kernel, were slightly broken otherwise. Meaning sluggish, broken features and the likes, compared to the now 3.0 kernel that Hash has implemented. Those ROMs that have the camera working are based on the CM9 ROMs with GB kernels. These new CM10 roms that Hash has are running the 3.0 kernel. Hash is working on getting the OS to work smoothly and efficiently first, and camera later.
ahh i see now.. makes sence.. see this is my first venture into android world.. been locked up and what not.. so tho ive read bout them still alot different then using them... but glad to see hes working on it.. i the thing is i really dont care for a vid camera.. i mean it would be nice but not nessassary... as of now my phone is bricked..waiting on a battery charger and new battery to come in.. then ill be up and running again.. i was using darkness rises as a daikly driver and only went to stock wen i needed bluetooth which isnt alot.. the only problem that i found with darkness was that the launcher would crash when u swiped all the way to the left or right.. simple fix just install a new launcher.. i used apex.. but i will try the one you suggested.. cus i like the swipe away features of ics and the task manager... i almost bought a new phone when i bricked mine but i decided against it cus i really dont like the other choices i could afford.. and id rather stick with motorolla cus i like there interface.. my friend has a htc sensation and tho its nice.. i feel the droid is better.. i mean he has 4g and ics stock.. but other then that i have hd a better cam and my phone is faster then his.. and i really dont need 4 g cus im always on wifi.. tho my next phone will have it.. just trying to decide for my next phone if i want a keyboard or not... cus i really dont use mine all that often cus the lights are out on it.. so its kinda hard to type in the dark or w.e but thats minor.. but my upgrade is a lil ways away so im just gonna keep mine.. tho i was debating on buying a new droid 3 cus mine is a lil battle scared... crack in the top right left corner.. thankfully it missed the front camera.. and the keyboard not lighting up..
Hi, Guys,
I just broke my old HD2, and though I should change another phone. Not a big fan of new phones, so bought an used Nexus One, which is with the same hardware as HD2.
But apparently, the development for N1 is not as popular as HD2. I went through the forum, and did not find many roms for N1. And there is not a thread that lists all the roms for N1.
I got a few questions, and hope some of you guys might be kind to help me with them
1. Is there a full HWA ICS rom for N1?
2. What is the most stable ICS rom for N1 right now?
3. What are some of the current unstable issues in ICS or JB for N1?
Anyway, I am still using the GB rom, and studying the instruction of installtion. Hope I can find a satisfied ICS or JB soon. ^^
Glad to be part of N1.
Cheers,
1.) Yes.
2.) Evervolv ICS, though it hasn't been updated for months (texasice has been working on Jellybean).
3.) Jellybean ROMs are all considered alpha releases but Evervolv JB 4.1 is fairly stable for me. Only issue I remember is not being able to use USB tethering, which I rarely use anyways. JB 4.2 is currently being worked on so the buglist is shortening as time goes on.
I'll let you find the links for these ROMs in the dev thread and fill in the blanks but this should serve as a quick and dirty summary. Btw, if you aren't already aware you'll have to learn how to use Blackrose (and possibly a2sd or m2sd) before you being playing around with ICS or later ROMs.

Just wondering, why didn't you purchase a used HD2? Since you already get used to that phone and like the custom ROMs in that section.
Well, the ICS/JB Roms have HWA, but not hardware accelerated video decoding/encoding, unlike the hd2

Actually, I have already bought three HD2 since I started to play with this phone. I bricked the 1st one after I burned the T-mobile rom into my HTC version HD2. I broke the screen of the second one, then I bought a broken 3rd one just to replace the LCD screen, then I seemed break the LCD connection cable.... Now I have three HD2 main boards and three broken screens... It seems I had no luck for HD2.
So I thought I should change another one, and I found a good price for this used N1 just for $70.

I think the guys are working on it??? It will be possible since the HW of N1 is the same as HD2?
Hey guys whatsup,
one question,
people are going hard with porting miui from chinese devices
but wouldnt it be easiest to just take
the rom framework from yuga, lay a honami cm/aospa base underneath
and make it stick?
im really excited about the progress
but isnt there a faster way?
cheers

As far as I know are people trying to port over MIUI from the Nexus 5, which is actually very similar to the Xperia Z1 in regard to the things that really matter, porting-wise. (think of things like the chipset, screen resolution, screen-size (not a whole lot but still))
Also bare in mind that it's harder to port closed-source ROMs like MIUI than you probably think. Another thing is that there aren't a whole lot of developers for the Xperia Z1.
I'm pretty sure somebody will eventually make it work though, if you feel like helping you can try to mess around with some files yourself. Remember that you can always flash a stock ROM again using flashtool, unless you manage to f*ck up the boot-loader, which is very hard to do by flashing ROMs, if not impossible.
