Any Canadians using Netflix on Xoom? Try unotelly.com... - Xoom Themes and Apps

Hey everyone,
I just signed up for a free trial of Netflix a couple days ago and found the content on the Canadian site was somewhat lacking, it's getting there but the US site still has lots more content currently. I know there was some ways to get the US site up here so I did some research and ended up trying to choose between http://www.unotelly.com and one of their competitors, called unblock-us. Being the typical cheapskate I looked over the features and costs for both services. Unotelly came in ahead with some extra features and a slightly lower cost. For the same slightly higher cost as the competitor's service they will throw in VPN access as well. I am currently on their free 8-day trial and it has been working flawlessly thus far, I set it up on my router so all my devices are able to access region locked content, including my beloved Xoom which I must say has a great interface for Netflix.
Check it out if you are want US Netflix in Canada(or I guess any non US country for that matter).

The state of Android Market for International users

I currently have a Xoom Wi-fi being used here in the Caribbean (Netherlands Antilles) and the state of Android Market simply makes it unusable, even when using USA VPN Connection.
I did find a solution here in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1065698 (a combination of root + build.prop of a verizon xoom)
But what about using the Xoom without root? For the normal user. Let's say I decide I want to sell the Xoom, for a normal user it would appear to be simply unusable, unable to buy or download a good junk of apps. Without all this tinkering I would constantly get: "The requested app could not be found" or cannot be installed on your device to cannot be installed on your carrier. My country seems to be supported: http://www.google.com/support/androidmarket/developer/bin/answer.py?answer=138294 , but after asking some devs to enable an app in my market, most tell you that they made it available to ALL markets already. Especially this part I find particularly troubling as the devs clearly want to maximize their sales and make it available in as many countries as possible, yet for my country (and many others) where supposedly even paid apps are enabled, we cannot download/pay for them.
My question is basically isn't there an easy way around all of this, without root, basically in an out-of-box state? I guess this is also a cautionary tale that without all this tinkering/rooting....a wifi Xoom is pretty much usless in certain markets.
I Hear u on this! I Wrote to google asking about this situation, but havent got any replies yet!.
They have a form to contact them in the market help!.
(Venezuela here)
THe list of countries we are given to deploy to as a dev is not exhaustive, if it's not in the list, there is nothing we can do about deploying there (as developers) it's up to google to sort out whatever problem it is thats keeps your country off the list.

According to the list my country falls in "Rest of the world" and has support for both free and paid apps. So I don't understand what's the problem.
Also as a dev, i think it's important for you guys, as I know many international users would like to buy certain apps, which is a huge untapped market, all potential sales going to waste.

yes, it's very true, so which country are you in? I don't know which list you are looking at, but I'm looking at the list that is presented to me when I upload an application for sale on the market, I have to select countries and prices, with, by default, every country is selected.
Im located in Netherlands Antilles (Not Netherlands) I'm looking at this list: http://www.google.com/support/androidmarket/developer/bin/answer.py?answer=138294
Venezuela is Also in the List! so i dont know what its the problem =S

Well, I just checked the market dev account for hte company I work for and our product is currently available in Netherlands Antilles, tell me if you see anyhting on the market from "Zubadoo", if not, then it's a Google problem, because you are certainly listed in one of the countries that can purchase our products.

Yup, they allow me to purchase your content. But like you said, it's a problem with Google, especially when the dev has enabled the apps in all markets and the market allows for paid apps, yet you can't download or buy them. Very frustrating.

So are you saying that even though you can see our apps, and others, you can't download/buy them? Including ours that you can see?
Actually its not such a big issue. I bought a Xoom wifi from the US. I live in the UAE and initially I had the same issues though Market access worked fine. Now though after using the update and getting to 3.1 even that isn't needed my Xoom is recognized a Verizon Xoom (since I used the US wifi files).
PS: UAE isn't on any of the lists :0) there might not be an official solution but there sure is a work around.
Cheers.

Yours works, but in some cases of games like riptide it simply didnt allow it.
I had to root and do some stuff to allow it. Which means Google/Market has a few problems

How come your Xoom is seen as a verizon? Isn't it a WIFI unit? Did you do anything special?
Just used BRD's method and I am guessing those files were specifically for the Verizion wifi device.

[POLL]Does PlayMusic,TVShows & Magazines Unavailability on NEXUS7 outside US matters?

[POLL]Does PlayMusic,TVShows & Magazines Unavailability on NEXUS7 outside US matters?
As you may already be aware of, some of Google Play features are not available outside of US at this moment, and that includes Play Music, TV shows and Magazines.
DOES IT REALLY MATTERS TO YOU?
How many of us actually buy these things from market, please use the VOTING button.
I just hate all websites cribbing about NEXUS 7 and bringing out Negative points unnecessarily !!!
I prefer to have these items available, but if they were not due to location or whatever reason I'm sure we as a community could devise a workaround/solution.
The next step is to rename the thread to something besides [POLL], heh.
???
I can see the poll
???
Need another option for: Screw it, I'll make it work.
This is the xda community you're polling.

XDA devs will make it work, that's another story.
Basically I wanna know how its a negative point & how many ppl actually uses it !!
For me, the only thing I would be interested in is the TV shows, but I can happily live without. I don't care much for the magazines, and I already have Google Music, through the use of a proxy as soon as it was released!
It does matter up to a point but for me the number one issue putting me off the Google Play shop is the absolute lack of proper search engine. Considering how Google made their name in the first place it is just embarrassing. If they would sort that out I would happily live with the lower level of content.

Same here!
Google Music is actually the most important feature for me, as I have all of my music files stored there and working perfectly since day one. And there's also plenty of good and free books available in the Google Play store.
I'd like to see Magazines. Music would probably be useful too (currently not in the cloud at all). Also, unrelated to Play, I'd like proper Wallet support (I did the hack to get it working on my Nexus, bought 3 coffees with the pre-pay and then it didn't work any more as I can't recharge it)
I'm aware there's workarounds for us UK folk but it all seems so unnecessary, especially when Apple seem to have sussed it. I hope Google can work out whatever crappy licensing rubbish prevents it at some point soon.
I'd like music to be available to buy but its not as if its hard to buy/download elsewhere and upload to the library.
I know if/when TV becomes available it will likely be months/series behind the US availability so I'll still use other methods to get recent shows. Recently I decided to check out iTunes and the UK was things like series 6 of mythbusters against the US currently showing series 10. I'd actually happily pay for the TV if they can get US shows available in the UK at the same time/not long after they are in the US. Not likely though.
Magazines aren't really a big consideration.

Music I'd like, but I'll just use the workaround anyway, the rest doesn't matter at all.
Well you can sign up for Google Music using a proxy, and from that point on, use it just fine on Android (you can't BUY music, but you can use it to store your own music). I have been doing this for over a year from the UK.
If you want Magazines, then you have Zinio, which has an excellent selection. I think you also get some trial issues too when you install it (I did with my Asus TF101)
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.zinio.mobile.android.reader
Perhaps Google should just buy them...
TV Shows, well Loveflim and Netflix offer that...
So no, whilst it would be nice, it's not essential, as unlike Apple, Android gives you the option of consumer choice. In the UK we have Apps/Movies/Books. And it's sure the others will arrive eventually, once content publishers can be certain that upsettting the iTunes/Apple monopoly for content publishing is worth it. Apple are the ones that are holding a gun to content publishers heads. Supply to Google and lose iTunes publishing.
#BoycottApple
I put down that it matters, but I still bought. I do consider it a negative, when up here in Canada it seems that if there's one thing Apple does right, it's allow us a more inclusive media selection. I mean, I still use iTunes for purchasing music, and thanks to iSyncr and PlayerPro I can still reference my media library but.. it's not as slick as a real Google solution.
Don't care about the TV, but Magazines I also care about - would love to be able to read mag's on that thing. I'll check out Zinio, but not holding my breath.
So ya, to me it matters as in Google stop ignoring us, but doesn't matter enough to affect my purchases..
Thankfully EBooks do work up here at least....
I think if I bought a nexus 7, I'd try to use the play store
seems Close call, let see the no. on 19th July: UK Release !!
Not a big deal, as I will mainly use it for browsing/internets and some gaming.
I don't want to buy music as mp3, but I want to subscribe to music streaming service, ditto magazine and books. I don't want to buy them, but I would like a "credit" system where I can pick a few books or magazines every month. If that's not possible, I don't need any content from the google store, just apps.
well im from germany and it would be much better to have some good german magazines build for the nexus 7.. the U.S. is not the only market ^^ all in all maybe 40% at the end of the year I guess.

Ah, sure I had tried this in the past but took another look, and seems ideal. It's got my usual holiday-reading fare in there like T3 etc.
Cheers for the recommendation. Will investigate the music workaround at some point for my existing stuff too.

Selling apps to other developers/publishers?

I am moving on to other projects (some will be Android apps) and I want to find a good home for two of my apps. They are simple, but found over 51,000 people who downloaded them and 12,000 use them actively. I listed them on Apptopia, but I would like to know if there are other places I could list them on? Could you share your experiences? What did and did not work for you when you tried to sell/transfer your app?
Apptopia doesn't work. App prices there are too high.. Interetsed in selling your apps directly to me? msg me.
Friend of mine, tried sell his really popular game with 1-5kk downloads, and failed, because most of companies purchasing sources/apps offer way to low offers, at least in his opinion, compare to possible monthly revenue, example from advertisement, also I heard rumours, that it might not be fully safe - for developers.

Unlocator free beta over

Unlocator DNS service has announced that their free beta period has now ended, and everyone who signed up is now on a 1-week free trial. After that it will cost $4.95/month. That's the typical price level set by competing services, of which there are at least 20. Some cost as little as $18/yr, and there are a few that are still free for the moment, but they might not all work with the Chromecast since it requires device-specific testing.
Any other free alternative?

Currently SmartDNSProxy and TunnelTo.us, but nothing stays free for long.
Most of the DNS services offer a 1-week free trial per email address.

Thanks OP! I gonna try, Do u know which one is better or which one you use?.. Thanks:good:
I have tested many of the DNS services using their free trials. I think they all work for the basics, although since they don't generally test the Chromecast, you may find that some sites don't work on the Chromecast with some DNS services. Unlocator didn't work with Pandora for me at first either, but they eventually fixed it - it just takes a while to get started, and then you may have to disconnect and reconnect to get it in sync with the Android/iOS app. That's true of some of the DNS services as well.
Tunnelto.us is supposedly in the process of implementing Netflix region switching. I don't know if they will support Netherlands or not. Keep in mind that most of these free services under development tend to move to paid subscription once they get Netflix region switching working, because that requires them to make a serious investment in having paid servers in every supported country.
But personally I currently use usaccess.ca, which cost me $18 for a year on a special promotion. Until now I was using Unlocator for Netflix region switching. USaccess.ca is working on adding that, but until they do I guess that on the very rare occasion that I want to watch anything from a non-U.S. region, it will be time for another 1-week free trial with one of the other services.
I switched to unotelly after unlocator. It certainly seems much better, just more stable and reliable in general. It also has the ability to access two countries content at the same time, so if you are in Europe it is possible to see both UK and US content at the same time without switching settings. They also have a really handy android app for switching Netflix regions very quickly, giving you access to much more content than just US Netflix on it's own.
It's cheaper too.

Unotelly also has a Netflix subtitle blocker, which can be handy if you're watching an English language movie with hardcoded subtitles on a foreign language Netflix.

Recommendation for best VPN for Android

I need suggestion, I want the best VPN for my Samsung mobile
I have seen the cheapest deal of FastestVPN, they are offering 92% discount on 5 Year plan cost just $49.95 further they have also 10% extra discount coupon "FAST10"
I really got amazed with this deal as no other VPN provider is offering such awesome deal
I just want to know that have any one here tried this VPN?
Here is the deal link: blog.fastestvpn.com/black-friday-vpn-deals
I use ip vanish, from the following they have also for pc and android app. Been good to me for over a year. Just my opinion

I have been using Windscribe. Non idea whether how it compares to other options.

nordvpn and pia
stop using free vpn noobs
I would suggest ProtonVPN. Been using it for over two years. Had Pia and NordVPN before but they heavily rely on ads and sponsored reviews. Not bad companies but I just prefer to know where my vpn servers are located. Proton also has a secure core feature where they route your traffic through two countries.
Out of all the VPNs I've tried EspressVPN has the best speed for me. It's the most expensive out of all of them, but it's worth it for me since it's almost always connected, to a USA server and I'm in Romania, I've never seen content buffer, in Youtube or Netflix.

I use Express as well just because it has an app for the TV.
I've been using ExpressVPN for about 2.5 years now. They are pricy but I love their apps and the fact that at home I set up my home router with their services so anyone on my network is hidden/secure.

i use their Services aswell, never got any problems
FastestVPN I'm having loads of problems with both on WiFi and mobile data, not working with all providers
I use ufo vpn , quick and works on streaming services where noordvpn fails , plus you get a free service and chances to get premium for free
My vote is expressvpn service this is one of the best vpn For Android also other vpns are best like pure, nord, surfshark, ipvanish but i am always using ExpressVPN many good sources available to get the best VPN for android Like Pcmag.com , Cnet.com and Rivipedia.com are the best soruces to share the list of best providers
I also use Express vpn keep using the 7 day trial
Put any email address in they dont ask for clarification just let you get using asap which is a flaw in there system..
Enjoy
