The IncREDible S
Hi all
I want to share my project The Incredible S. It's not finished this time, but is going to be in the next days.
A friend has dropped his phone out while he was driving his motorbike. The result of this little accident was a completly destroyed IncS-Housing:

My friend bought a new phone and gave the IncS to me.
The Idea
I decided to buy a new housing, the phone itself was fully working and the screen was not broken. I searched on eBay for some housings and found a red one that looked very nice. I fall in love with this and bought it.
The Assembling
After 3 weeks of wating for shipping my housing, I began to disassemble the Incredible and build it into the new housing.
That was sometimes difficult, especially the screen that was glued with a ton of glue and sticked to the housing and was very hard to remove.
But I also handled this hard part and assembled my new red Incredible S that will replace my black Incredible S.
The Failing :silly:
But the first try failed: After some days of using my phone, I recognized a screen lift. The glue isn't sticking anymore and dirt went between glass and display. Also i destroyed the display a little bit: It wasn't illuminated everywhere the same.
And the tip of the iceberg: I killed the digitizer, a have about a half cm in the bottom part that doesn't work anymore.
As summary: The housing looks nice, but thats all. I have a phone that looks good but can't do really much (like the iPhone )
The never giving up (aka the second try)
So I again ordered a red housing, but this time with a new display (Glass and Display as one part, they hold together now).
Add 23.12.2012:
Today I tried to build my Red phone as the display/glass/digitizer and the red case arrived. The button light is taken from the other case, since there are still working fine.
Before I built the Screen into the case, I tested the functionality of the phone and digitizer without any case. Sadly, I killed my button lights with my dissasembling from the old case.
Now I'm awaiting some new button lights and hope that I can have my complete red Incredible S this year.
What do you think about my project? Do you think red is a good color for a phone? Would you have yourself a red phone?
P.S. I know my english is not good, I had a hard day at School and my brain is now too f****ed up to write something english with correct gammar and so on...
Sounds interesting, good luck. I also dropped my phone 1 week ago, screen was fine but the casing has a little scratch(not like yours posted in picture, mine is barely noticable).
Let me know how it goes I am curious as I might replace mine too in future if I drop it more .
Looks cool bud. You didn't order a new digitizer? Or did you order a new LCD and glass and digitizer?

I remember when I dropped my phone on the street and scratched the whole front... I'm glad HTC replaced the front because of a motherboard problem and a broken vibrator (sounds weird but I know no other name).
The red housing looks nice.

I ordered the complete package: display, digitizer and glass.
The costs for the housing and the display and digitizer and glass was about 70 swiss francs.
Still cheaper than a new phone.

So today I tried to build my new IncREDible S.
But again I failed... The screen and digitizer was working fine, but I had to take out the button lights from my first try and sadly killed them. Now I have a case, a Screen with digitizer(and glass) and a mainboard wo isn't in any case and now I'm awaiting some new button lights...

Btw I think red looks hot on a Incs :good:

Because the housing has some glue in it. And when I disassemble and reassemble, the glue doesn't stick as good as it did. So I bought a new housing.
And the housings and displays were chepaer then a new phone: 70swiss francs vs 450-600 swiss francs for a new phone.

So while chasing my 2yr old son around, I bumped a chair with my belt holder and my phone and holder became a projectial. it was like slow motion for a moment while I tried to grab it before it hit the floor, but I was too late. I pick it up and hit the power button only to discover a pretty crack in the screen.

Luckily, a few months back I discovered MyMobile. A program that allows you to view your phone's screen on a computer through a data cable. I connected my phone and pull up MyMobile and the 1st thing i did was my stuff on my phone. the touched screen worked

I was going to buy a friend's Kaiser, but after some research I found a eBay seller with a deal on a screen, digitizer, and tools needed for the job for $34.49 shipped. the user name is yallstore, and their website is yallstore.com. one of the better experiances I've had on eBay.
I got the package in the mail today.
i took the 4 screws out the back of tilt section and used the pry tool to loosened the housing. then, diconnected the ribbon cable and pulled the busted screen out.
I then slid the new screen in ,connected the ribbon cable and tested it before i put everything back together.
sucess
anyone need a digitizer (touchscreen part) ???
i gotta a used one
just wanted to say thanks for posting ur exp, unfortnately my screen on my tilt broke yesterday , saw your thread, and promptly ordered a new screen from yallstore. Currently using my tilt through mymobile lol, but, how long did it take for you to recieve your package? i ordered the priority shipping for 10$ since i needed it by next week.
about 5 days. the seller is in NY and i'm in GA.
Alrite cool, im in FL, shouldnt be too long
easy install?
Cool i am gona order one today.. Your way looks easy, i watched a youtube screen replacement video amd looked like you had to take the whole thing completely apart was like 10 to 15 steps to do lol. Your way looks a lot better. lets hope i dont mess it up . thanks for the link to the seller also.
yeah, it's not that hard. the hardest part is prying the housing apart. i found a good write up that i used as a referance while doing mine. i'll see if i can find it
ahhh, I bookmarked it

Ok good deal, i'll look it up. I ordered the screen from the same place you did. I had sold my tilt and didnt know how much i would miss a cell with windows so i was at a flea market and a guy had a tilt there with a $45.00 price on it so i asked whats wrong with it and he said its has a red blue white screen and didnt know what was wrong. He got it at an estate sale and didnt want to fix it. I said well i can and ill take it. Flashed it and all good but the screen had a crack in the corner so i figured well worth it to fix it and have a tilt for under $100.

Hey, thanks! i havent even thought about looking for one of these lol, i guess i was planning on just unscrewing the whole thing till i eventually got the new screen in
The new screen came in yesterday, put the screen in flawlessly, one thing i noticed, the new screen has a light, mattish coating on the screen while my stock screen is glossy.
Anyways, thanks for the link, my tilt is back now!
matte screen
I ordred one too and though it would be glossy like the original. Onces it is powered on does the screen look as sharp as before or notice any diffrence?
Thanks
Its as sharp as before, it just takes a bit to get used to the new coating because when uve been used to the old glossy screen and switch to a matte screen it definitely looks a lil blurry, but it isnt.
ok good
Ok good deal. And by the way i am gona try that Android soon hahaha soon as i get brave enough

Ah-Ha! i figured out what was different! I contacted yallstore support when the lcd had a little bubble in the upper right hand corner, and i asked if there was a plastic covering on it, and there was! I pulled off the covering and it looks exactly like the original! Its glossy, and its just awesome now! I didnt think there was a covering on when i first installed it because it was just so perfect! And its not a little blurry anymore!
Ok lol i emailed them to about it this afternoon and have not heard back yet but cool thats good news i feel better now.
Got the screen today and installed 10 minutes and all good.
Thanks for the links and the info for sure

Naw the digitizer just displays two versions of the image and light up accordingly and have their own touch sensor separate from the lcd. Kind of like a crosswalk sign.

My g/f did it all herself with no experience so I'm sure anyone could do it.

You need to change the digitizer again.
You probably broke the cable to the digitizer. I did the same thing the first time. There is very little space for it and you have to be very carefull when pressing the digitizer back in place.

Hey, I'm interested in disassembling the phone to replace the LCD. I just noticed some weird horizontal banding when looking at the phone from the angle, it sucks but it bothers me.
I have a question, do you need a special tape or any other materials that the average guy might not have? How hard is it to remove the glass screen from the digitizer/lcd panel?
I'm assuming I can buy the same unit for the s710d / s710e right? (Verizon incredible 2 / euro Incredible S)
Here's pictures of my banding. I'm uber annoyed at it just because I noticed it now...

The only thing I had to buy was 3m brand scotch double sided clear tape. I do reccomend buying the pry tool advertised beside the glass as I was extremely annoyed using a knife (lol) to seperate the glass from the LCD.
The parts will be the same from your phone to mine.
Search YouTube "HTC incredible s screen replacement" than click on the first video.
Be VERY careful when you pry the bottom portion of the glass away from the adhesive near the captive buttons. You have about a 1/4" of clearance for the cable until it tears. The top of the glass is also attached by a cable and a piece of rubber but you don't have to be as careful as their is a good 1/2" of cable to play with. The hardest part is removing the digitizer adhesive from the bottom of the glass you need a very thin knife if you don't buy the accessory and if you tear it away the digitizer will have to be replaced.
3rd edit: you need a torx driver set and tiny Phillips drivers there's 1 torx size and 2 Phillips size.

It is glued to the housing. And so are the lcd. But LCD and digitizer is not glued together.
To put it back on I used some strong double sided adhesive tape.

the screen and digitizer are stuck together, i have just repaced the full screen, lcd, digitizer and touch keys and it came preasembled.
there is a thin line of adhesive on the edge of the digitizer, i suppose it is to keep dust from getting between them.

Hey any idea where can we get the plastic cover , i had dropped my phone so it has scratches now..
Hi tandfeen, question.. now that you replaced the digitizer, do you have to worry about dust getting under the screen? I noticed there was a good amount of black putty glued to the old digitizer and I am worried that with a new clean one it is possible for dust to get between it.

You can ebay or amazon for "incredible s battery cover" or "incredible 2 battery cover".
There are a couple of threads, hope mods either merge them or put them together. I didn't to post in tandfeen and itsbeertimenow's threads to keep it clean.
You can use Verizon Droid Incredible 2 parts in exchange with the Incredible S. I bought a Verizon Droid Incredible 2 LCD and it is working fine in the Incredible S. I disassembled my Incredible S to replace the front housing (was scratched) and the LCD.
Tips if you plan on replacing your Incredible S:
If you're going to do any of the following:
-Clean dust under screen (Don't do this unless you are serious, IMO)
-Fix or change LCD
-Fix or change Digitizer
-Fix or change Front metal housing
You might as well get a new digitizer to replace at the same time, just a honest opinion. Trying to reuse the old one causes a lot of dust particles and you have to cut around the sticky putty which makes it a mess. Save yourself the hassle of doing that and pay an extra $15-20 for a new clean digitizer unless you are not OCD and don't care that your screen will have fingerprints or dust particles.

yes, the front housing, LCD, light for softkeys, digitizer, middle smoke bezel, back cover, camera, microusb are completely interchangeable.
In other words, everything except the motherboard can be reused. That is due to because it has slight changes for the CDMA radio.
I've built a hand full of desktops, and repaired a few Original NES systems.
Is this a hard process or time consuming?
Thanks again for the info/reassurance
It's actually very easy until you get to the part that you have to take the digitizer off the LCD and front housing. That's the most time consuming part, and gluing the digitizer back on, if you don't do a good job like they did in stock, you will get dust in it. I learned my lesson about that.
If you're going to replace your housing, I'd recommend buying a full front housing+digitizer+LCD set to save you the hassle.. There is someone on ebay in USA selling a full housing set + lcd + digitizer for Incredible 2 for $45-55 dollars.
I'm going to the red housing. I haven't found that one in one piece. There is a repair shop in town that said they will do the swap, new housing, digitizer, power button for 35. 30 day warranty on work but not the parts since I'm buying else where.
Kaijura, thanks for sharing the info. Quick question would replacing the ear speaker be easy? Mine seems to have died after dropping it once or could it be possible that the connection just became loose? Any tips before dissembling it? Sorry if its not really related to housing, LCD and whatnot.

Watch the youtube for the dissembled Incredible S, or if they have an Incredible 2 it's the same thing.
Here you go, the ear speaker is fairly easy. It's just this oval piece in the middle. You just pluck it out with a toothpick or a plastic pick device. Guitar pick works great.
Since it's not behind the LCD/Digitizer, it makes changing it a breeze.
some swapped pictures from a Incredible S (s710a) to Incredible 2 (ADR6350) housing. Everything is a perfect fit.
The only cosmetics difference besides the HTC logo is that the Incredible 2 has some black accents on the USB port, and the camera ring.

Well, you do have to disconnect the existing three major cables on the motheboard before you can access it and repair it easily:
- The smallest one is the front four softkey lights
- The middle size one is the LCD cable
- The largest one on the back side (side facing the earpiece) is the digitizer cable.
This video should make disassembly very easy:

The earpiece is just connected by two metal pins as you can see on both sides.. here are some pictures of the one I replaced:

I seem to have a spec of something in the screen, I just noticed it yesterday. I'm 100% sure it was not there before as its on the white part of the gmail icon on my homescreen, so if it was there before I would have noticed it.
I'm also pretty certain it's not a dead pixel as it appears above the text on my screen. Also if I position some text so the corner or edge of a letter just touches it, it seems to shift if I look at it in different angles which would indicate its not a pixel but something above the actual LCD panel.
Not sure how to explain this better, but I have seen LCDs with dead pixels, something behind the LCD panel, and something between the LCD and glass, and this definitely looks like it something above the lcd.
The thing is, the Xperia Z LCD panel is meant to be bonded directly to the LCD, so there is no air gap, so theoretically nothing can get between the LCD and the glass.
Anyway, I just ordered a usb microscope (always wanted one anyway) which should arrive tomorrow so I can get a better look at this and figure out what is going on.
Just really bugging me at the moment, also heard that sony has been refusing repairs on Xperia Z with less than 3 faulty pixels, so also worried if it is indeed a pixel.
OK, it is definitely dust or something in my screen, I have tried shining a bright LED into the screen and I can see a speck with the screen off, exactly where the the black spec shows up on my screen is on.
I thought the whole lcd was meant to be bonded to the screen removing the whole of the air layer. as shown on sony's website.
Anyone have similar issue? or know about if there is indeed a gap between the lcd and the glass?
Well, no one seems interested in this thread, but here goes anyway. Just in case someone does have same issue later on:
usb microscope arrived today and here are the pictures:

Under 500X
It clearly shows that its not a dead or stuck pixel. there is definitely something between the LCD and the glass. Which would mean that there is a gap between the LCD and the front glass. I thought that there isn't a gap as the LCD is bonded to the glass.
Have to find time to take it to sony and see what they say I guess.

Firstly, I thought that maybe dead pixel appeared after few days but can't be - that black spot is seen even when the screen is turned off. It's very small but for me makes huge difference.
Hello everyone!!
I need help quickly! I have the same problem with my XZ, i have dust under the digitizer (only visible on white and green light), if I send it on RMA, will they change the screen and digitizer (I heard somewhere that they need to do that because it's sticked together), or just clean the dust?
Thanks in advance

Sony took it in for repair, took them nearly 3 weeks but ended up giving me a new phone (different IMEI and newer manufacturing date). Not quite sure why I got a new phone but it was all good!

They told me that the front of the phone with lcd and digitizer gets replaced as it's all one part.
I have LETV X800 US version. Drop from 1.5 cracked the glass really nice (see attachment). I am thinking to order screen replacement from here: http://www.vopmart.com/pa1013251.html or here: http://s.aliexpress.com/iemyi2Yz
Do you think it is compatible with my US version of the phone.
I guess it should work on both CN & US but I need to ask before ordering.

Any progress?
I also have the same problem.
Hi
Did you find a solution to your problem ? I also have the same and I do not find the necessary help.
Thank you for your answer
In my reading the screen replacement should work on both US and CN versions....
The screen of this phone is subpar to current phone standards. Mine cracked when dropped at 30 cm from tiled floor after 3 months of use! The phone was house into its original silicone transparent protection, with a glass protection on top! The glass protection didn't brake, only the screen underneath did. I had it replaced for the equivalent of 30 euros in China in a general phone fixing shop, and made clear I did not want an original replacement. They guy came up with a good quality screen, slightly thicker than the original. I have used it without problems for 8 months now. It withstood about 4 falls from 1 meter each, but I keep the phone housed in a metal frame protection since then. The original case is bad since it doesn't protect the phone all around as it should.
I bought the screen from vopmart.
Price is ok, delivery was fast (less than a week to Germany).
Disassembly of screen was actually easier than in the videos, works pretty well.
The BIG problem was (which I did not really realize or ignore until then)...the vopmart screen replacement did NOT come with the adhesive to glue the screen to the phone.
Since I was impatient and wanted to use the phone right away, I used some own tape and glue and damaged the screen in the process.
Bottom line:
- Screen replacement is relatively simple and screen is not too expensive
- make sure you double check that the adhesive is included in the screen you order or order separately, otherwise you will not be able to replace the screen
- I second what the previous poster said....my phone fell from about 70cm and the screen was cracked pretty badly, previous phones did survive this
I bought a Xiaomi phone now. I hope/think build quality is a bit better and, more importantly, you are not stuck with Android 5...
I'm planning to order screen on Aliexpress. I want to ask you that, is your screen's colors or quality worse than original? I'm not asking for durability, just asking for quality.

I think it is about the same as the original. I am not 100% sure though since I destroyed it a little during the replacement. And I believe the color quality from the original one is not great to start with anyway.

Thank you. I will check adhesive before order.
I saw some feedbacks about pressure marks, it's like
Do you have screen problem's like this?

I ordered the screen which comes with the digitiser and lcd screen but no sticker so I ordered the sticker, however some people in this thread said glue, so I am confused. What more the replacement videos don't show people putting in glue.
And originally did the phone have a sticker I think not?

So I have ordered both and have the heat gun, and the pry tools, so technically if I am not a gimp I should be able to complete this successfully.
I am just again slightly confused because some videos recommend removing the back cover and the getting to the front by doing a full disassembly whilst others recommend removing the glass directly.
Has anyone tried both methods? I would understand if you were replacing the battery also but...
Thank you in advance.
I have only tried the "front" method, so just removed the glass from the front. I found this to be pretty easy. I did this with a Sony Xperia phone before and I must say the letv was much easier.
I can recommend removing the glass from the front.
Which one is the front method? What and where did you buy to repair it?

I think you use a heat gun to warm it up and then use a suction cup to loosen it then use a razor blade to cut away the glue/sticker and slowly pry it apart.
Then you detach it, attach the new one apply the sticker and then reseal.
Sticker
Hello everybody,
The son of my friend break his screen (LeTV one Pro = LeEco x800 Pro).
He bought a replacement screen, but there is no sticker to fix the screen. It's hard to find this part alone.
Can you give me an idea to solve this problem?
Regards.
