Is S5839i a fork from S5830i? - Galaxy Ace S5830i General

Hello all!
I have a pretty basic question to which I didn't find a precise question.
Recently I tried to follow some "How to's" to root my S5839i.
Surprisingly, none if the HT to 30i worked on 39i.
Are these phones substantially different to justify a dedicated developing subforum?
Sent from my GT-I9070 using xda premium

Those phones are the same
ROMs for S5830I work on S5839i last time i checked

Ok. Then why does this sticky root to S5839i won't work?
There might be some differences that affect this basic hack
I manage to root S5839i following this

Some phones are not possible to be rooted with some methods. Don't know why

I have a GT-S5839i and i installed ROM for GT-S5830i about 4-5 months ago and i have a good root recovery package and it work fine on my phone when i had s5839i or s5830i

Thanks for your quick answer but I strongly doubt that my phone is that unique
There might be another explanation.

I don't doubt that installing a ROM isn't possible. How about rooting the original ROM?

Here try this maybe it'll help you

Will the phone still be eligible to warranty after this procedure? Can it be reverted?

If you have a s5839i and you already rooted phone you have lost warranty. To bring back warranty you must reinstall your rom which currently use (for example Czech Rep. Vodafone or Poland T-Mobile).
If you install s5830i rom to your s5839i i think is the same if you rooted your phone BUT i can to wrong about that. But whats a problem to install s5839i rom if you have s5830i rom .

You need to format every partition and reflash your firmware with odin

As far as I was aware you loose warranty for the SOFTWARE not the HARDWARE eg: faulty speaker, overheating cpu or pcb faults etc
You can of course re flash with ODIN using the PIT file to repartition. Use the stock rom your phone came with from samfirmware.com. It would be advisable to make a NANDROID backup of your current rom to restore before doing any rooting and/or flashing.
This is what I wish I had done but I learned from experience.

Please help a Samsung newby!

I have just aquired an sgs i9000 (£259.95 from uk carephone warehouse) and am finding things a little different after using an htc desire for the last year.
After poking around the forum, i have managed to install I9000XXJVP 2.3.4 gingerbread using odin.
My question is, is it possible for me to now install speedmod-kernel-k15h-t12-300hz using odin to gain root access or have i misread the situation?
Sorry if this sounds a bit noobish but, if the above is correct, will i lose all of my apps and settings if doing so?
Advice would be much appreciated.
If you flash a kernel you won't loose any data.

Thanks for your reply.
So can i simply flash the kernel that i mentioned on my stock 2.3.4 or is there something else to do first and if yes, does this automatically give me root?
Sorry to be a noob, but i am new to these procedures and it all seems too simple to me!
It will give you root, yes.
But I'm not quite sure if this kernel fits for JVP...

speedmod's kernel won't automatically root your phone but you can root it once you've flashed it via the option in recovery mode.
but i agree you should check that it is compatible with JVH; i'm on KC1 so not too sure.
i mean JVP!
There should be a CF-Root version for JVP too, thod kernel is as stock as possible but gives you root.

Super Bricked My Galaxy Note (Binary Count =0)

I super bricked (no download mode or recovery mode) my Galaxy Note while restoring from CWM backup last night, I had LP8 installed, binary count is 0.
I have already sent it to the Samsung Service Center, question is: what should I expect??
FYI : My motherboard had been replaced 2 times already earlier due to emmc bug.

What on earth are you doing to consistently brick it? If you're under warranty then you should be ok - given that the emmc is a known issue which they're aware of..
On a side note, I'd suggest not being so flash happy and a little more reading before you mess around..
Good luck..

I was tryin to get navigation bar like that in Nexus, had created a backup if smthin went wrong, I haven't flashed any custom ROM, and ya its under warranty, and I have decided I'll be buying only Nexus series from now on
Good thing you have warranty, but still bricking it 3 times now, I wouldn't want my device on the service center it's inconvenient and really not worth wasting my time, I'd rather be very careful flashing than going to the service center for repairs. But anyways that's my opinion. It's your device and you can do whatever you want with it
Please have a look here, before you transform your note into a brick... for the 4th time

No I didn't do it on purpose, I had followed steps for flashing ParanoidAndroid ROM, I flashed a stock GB ROM as asked, but in both attempts I got my phone soft bricked, is there any guide you can suggest for a fool-proof way of flashing without bricking??

Than I guess I'll have to stick with the stock ROM and wait for next Nexus to be launched, I had GSII previously and flashed ROMs without any worry, and fyi I did follow every instructions, I'm not a noob

There is a safe way to flash, this is why a lot of people do it successfully...
My thoughts are that you followed instruction to a degree.. If you're on a Stock GB there's no fear of Brickbug at all...
I am wondering if you flashed Abyss in ICS - or did not reboot recovery after installing Abyss....
Which steps did you follow and which ROM, I've flashed PA without issue after downgrading to GB via PC ODIN, Rooting with SpeedMod and then flashing PA..

You did not follow the steps.
Stock ICS kernel had the bug that will brick your phone.
Always instal a safe kennel, reboot into recovery and then wipe, then instal new ROM

Restoring in cwm under ics kernel triggers brick bug. This has been documented since the bug was found and is all outlined in the stickies all over the forum. I'm sorry but I have no sympathy for someone bricking for a third time, there's just no excuse for this short sightedness.

How do I fully root the Note?

Hey guys, Recently my dad got a Galaxy Note (N7000) and he has been complaining about The Note 2 getting jelly bean and stuff.
I already rooted it for him with Superuser.
I want to install a custom rom for him but I read a lot of topics saying that theres a very high chance on bricking your device using CWM and stuff.
If anyone could post a step by step guide, That would be super-appreciated, Thank you in advance.

He's already rooted and on stock kernel, if he tries to flash a ROM using above CWM.zip or does factory reset on it, he will brick his device.
Best advice is to go Here, download PhilZ-cwm6-DXLR5-OLB-2.7-signed.zip (that's the one that is compatible with his ROM) and put it on external SD card. From there, boot into recovery mode, and flash Philz kernel from external storage. (It's the only one that can be flashed from stock recovery). Then phone will be fully rooted with safe stock kernel and safe CWM recovery. Only then should any attempt be made to flash ROMs from recovery.
Re: CWM.zip READ THIS
Easiest for me is to flash ICS of your choice using Odin. Then flash speedmod-kernel-n7000-ics-k3-13-Odin.tar using Odin. Select PDA in Odin to use this file. Google it up. Double check that the file you get is for ICS N7000 and that it is the Odin version.
The end result will be a rooted ICS that you can safely wipe. It also has Clockworkmod installed. This allows you to flash custom JB roms. You may get a yellow triangle upon reboot. Just buy Triangle Away on Google Play store. Reset the counter using the app.
But flashing philz from stock doesn't result in triangle, raised counter and need for triangle away. Surely easier

Sell the Note and get your father a Note2. Chances are, he will complain of so many things "not normal" once in custom rom, etc.
