Howdy all!
When I install an appp on my phone (like fb messenger) for the first time everything works great, including push notifications.
Whenever I clean install a new ROM, like i've just done going from CM10 to CM10.1, and I restore the app+data from Titanium Backup push notifications never work. I can only get it working if I completely uninstall and reinstall the app from the Play Store.
Does anyone have a method for solving this problem, or can tell me what I'm doing wrong? Thanks!
Try clearing the data of the app you restored in settings/apps.

Thank you for your reply. That's what I've had to do, and doing so brings back push notification functionality.
I was just wondering if there a way I could get it back without removing data and having to start from scratch, for future reference.

Have you tried to download the app more than once? It can take up to 8-10 times for certain app to download..
Also, are you trying to install them on your external? If so, move your downloads to internal.
EDIT: Here comes the stupid question.. Do you have a gmail account?? and if so, is it setted up on your phone.
Yes I do have a gmail account and yes I'm installing to internal. im not that much of a newbie
RE: HELP!
also ive tried install apps from market and from external in all kinds roms. it never works
PS: love your signature i have tried that rom and i LOVE it but i cant use it because of this issue. :'(

?
? is that my email?
if it is my email is @gmail.com not google mail
No, and I can not say for certain this is your issue but every device had a id that can be changed from time to time when flashing roms.
You said you cleared market cache and data in manage applications?
Sent from my SGH-I897 using XDA Premium App
yea i cleard data and cache many times in lots of roms. Cleared Market, google talk, download manager, google framework service....
What rom are you on
Sent from my SGH-I897 using XDA Premium App
right now im on stock 2.1 cause that the only rom i can install apps on but i was on firefly 2.4, then tried continuum 4, and apex and andromeda
Download an app from the market called android id changer.
Open app
Click save id
make sure you back up app using titanium
Next time you flash open app
Click load id
Click change
Phone will reboot
No guarantee this works but it is worth a shot

I am not sure what you mean
If you are asking can you restore the app on 2.2, yes
Sent from my SGH-I897 using XDA Premium App
no i mean can i back up my stock rom and data using clockworkmod backup, so that i can restore it later if this doesn't work
You can do a backup through clockwork, this will back everything up, buy you would still need to flash sick first then restore backup in order to get it back. You can not respite the 2.1 backup directly onto 2.2
Sent from my SGH-I897 using XDA Premium App
thanks ill try that now
ugh these roms take so long to download!
Can not help you there
Sent from my SGH-I897 using XDA Premium App
i cant get to clockworkmod i installed it with rom manager and gave rom manger root privs and i press reboot to recovery and it just goes to stock recovery. and when i press install update it says signature not verified!
I backed up and then deleted the stock Android mms apk after installing chomp. I now can send but not receive any text messages. I have tried to restore with titanium but it just hangs during the restore. Anyone have any suggestions? I have also tried pulling the app from a downloaded ROM but it won't install.

Reflash the current ROM your on
Yeah I was hoping to find a way other than starting from scratch again. Trying to remember if I can push the app using adb. I'm too tired for this right now.

As long as you don't wipe it won't make you start from scratch if you flash the rom again..it'll just replace with stock kernel and bring back all the previous apps but you won't start from scratch .have you tried installing it with something like root explorer or root browser if you're not familiar with adb

Hello, anyone else having the same problem as me and please help offer solutions.
My Contacts APPs keep FC most of the time when a call comes in. When this happens, usually I will not see the caller ID (only the number is displayed, not the names in my contact list). Sometimes the phone just hang and reboot and I believe the Contact is messing up the phone. Call logs will not show until the Contact apps run again after a few mins.
I saw post somewhere that this happens when contact list gets big and I follow the instruction to completely clear my contacts and restore them. But this does not help.
Phone is not having problem when I was in GB rom (2.3.5 and 2.3.6) and problem exist after upgrade to ICS. I tried 2 different ICS rom from different region (4.0.3), the same happens. Recently upgraded to 4.04. Problem remains.
I even downgrade back to GB. Clear cache, factory reset. Restore to ICS 4.0.4. I use Titanium to restore all apps and phone data. Problems still there.
I reflash the above again, this time only restore the apps and not phone data. This doesn't help.
Am at a lost what to do now? Everything runs fine except the Contact.
Download an alternative app for contacts
There are plenty of apps on google play

This is more of a workaround than a fix...
I've had this issue with contacts and then usually dialler gets problems. How are you adding your contacts, from a Google account? If so, try clearing the data and cache on both the contacts app and contacts storage app, then re sync your contacts, let me know if it helps.

Hi, Thanks for the reply. I've tried your suggestions before but problem still exist. I'm using Samsung contact to do a backup/restore. I've tried before GO's contact and Superbackup. None solve the problem.
Currently, I just tried this method below to disable the Sync contact settings. Let's see if this will work.
http://jjpda.blogspot.sg/2012/07/android-404-contacts-force-close.html
There might be some permission error. If you are rooted then try extracting the contacts.apk, contacts.odex files from Stock ROM package and push it into system app folder. it might help. for a safer side you can also copy Phone.apk files along.
I am currently running CM7 (2013-01-01 nightly) on my Galaxy Ace. When I want to try a new rom I go through the usual steps: make a CWM backup, wipe, flash the new rom, play with it for a while, and then restore my backup to go back to CM7.
Everything works fine, except for one major issue: I can't install apps remotely from the Play Store site after restoring the backup. I click on Install, it says the app will be downloaded to my device shortly, but nothing happens. Wiping and flashing CM7 again fixes it, but that means losing my backups. Is this a known issue? Is there something else I should do after restoring a backup for the Play Store to work correctly again? Thanks!
Can you still login to your GMail account?
Maybe you just have to reconfigure your Google account (and wipe some caches)
Try Menu/Settings/Applications/Manage Applications/All Apps/find the market app and open it, then force stop the app, then clear catch, clear data, then uninstall updates. Now back out and reopen the market app and then follow the sign in instructions.
Hope this helps.

@ OP : Forget cwm backup. Backup all your data with titanium backup & after a fresh flash, use the " restore data only " option in the titanium backup app.

I'll try that, thanks! If you've restored a Titanium backup before, it'd be awesome if you could check that installing apps from the Play Store site works after the restore. I'm a little weary of losing my CM7 setup again only to fix this issue. Thanks again!

Really speaking, I never use titanium backup as the only things that matter to me on my phone are the contacts & the info I provided earlier was just from a hint of what I had come across before. I can't try it out for you coz I'm currently unrooted. But definitely the data backup should work fine without any issues at all. Just go ahead & try out

Is the Play store installed on your phone? If it isn't you won't be able to dl remotely from the store. If it isn't you will have to find a version of gapps to work with your rom.
Hello people! I am an S3 mini owner for the last one and a half year. I have installed CM 11 about 3 months ago and my phone is better than ever. I usually install almost all the daily releases. I 've also installed the latest gapps. The only problem that I am facing lately is that some of the applications cannot be updated. The error message says that there is not enough free space in my device. I have almost 1,5 gb of free space, so I don't think that this is really the problem. Even if I uninstall these apps and I try to install them again, I also face the same error, that there is not enough free space in my device. This hapens with 9 apps. All the rest are updating normally. Do you have any idea what could I do with my problerm? Thanks in advance!
It happened to me once with titanium backup, so I deleted com.kermidas.TitaniumBackup-1.odex from data/app, using root explorer & voila, problem solved

Thank you very much for the response, mauan. I followed your instructions, but the problem remains. I also tried to uninstal Titanium Backup, but neither this prooved to be a solution to my problem... Any other idea?

I would also like to say that the problem with these apps is really strange. Even if I uninstal one of them and then try to reinstall it, either from Google play store or installing the apk that I have already downloaded manually, the problem remains the same: not enough space. The only way to use this app again is restoring a nandroid backup that includes it. Meanwhile, I can install other apps normally, even if they need much more free space.
This problem has started being annoying to me, but I would like to avoid hard reset and setting up the phone from the scratch... Ouf........

Titanium backup was an example for what you need to do with apps that said "no free space". Are you using gapps 4.4.4 or 4.4.3? I can't think clearly at this late hours

OK, I 've understood now. Titanium backup works flawlessly to me, but even trying your example with one of the "problematic" apps didn't work...

I had the exact same problem, but on stock ROM. What I did was I made a nandroid backup, wiped /system , /data and /cache and then restored my backup. When the phone booted up everything was working again and I could update or install new apps without the "no space" message

Hello, people! Sadly, the problem still remains. The most usual possible solution I have read is deleting the .apk file from data/apps folder, but it didn't work to me... Any other idea...?

Oups! I just understood that I was doing something wrong! I was deleting the .apk filr, not the .odex one. The problem is that I cannot find any .odex files in the data/app/ directory. Does it have anything to do with deodexed rom...? Could I find the .odex files somewhere else? My phone is running on CM 11 20140710 at the momment..
