[Q] Need help with un-rooting & going back to Stock ROM - Galaxy Tab 8.9 General

I have been trying to un-root my tab 8.9 since Monday without any success, have tried quite a few things, also downloaded stock ROM from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1582943 & tried flashing with Odin but could not as once i put my tab in download mode Odin keeps saying Added!! & Removed!! the next instant; i am not sure what to do & how, can anyone help please!

Download the stock rom from sammobile.com for your device. It'll be a zip file. You'll need to extract the .tar.md5 file from it. Use 7-zip to do that. The .tar.md5 file can then be used in Odin. Browes to it from PDA in Odin. This should return you to stock.

i am unable to connect/detect my device with Odin!!! it keeps saying added!! removed!! irritated!!

That's not good. Did you get the right rom for your specific tab? If you used the wrong one you've probably bricked it.

i did i did! the device is working fine, all i want is to take it back to the condition it was when it came in a box!!

If the device is still working then it's probably the usb port. I can get one of my computers to recognize my device with Odin but not the other. Try different usb ports and if that doesn't work try another computer if you can. Also make sure you have the usb drivers installed. You can do that by installing kies on your computer.

CANNOT ROOT samsung captivate 2.3.5

Hello friends,
I have been a silent follower of this forum for more than 5 years and I never needed to post anything because I was able to find everything and I am very thankful to all the developers out there.
But today I couldn't get something done with my phone. I had samsung captivate (at&t) which for some reason couldn't start up so at&t had to exchange it for me ( that was few months back). For past few weeks I have been trying to root this new phone ( also samsung captivate), but I cannot get it to root. I searched all over the place and tried to root the device for nearly 5-7 times using odin, but no luck.
Today I used the easy root by red_81 (corn kernel 7.0a). Again it was an unsuccessful attempt. The installation freezes at the zImage step during the kernel installation.
Help with this will be really appreciated.
MY PHONE INFO:-
Model number- SAMSUNG - SGH - I897
Firmware version - 2.3.5
Baseband version - I897UCKK4
Kernel version - 2.6.35.7-I897UCKK4-CL614489
Build number - GINGERBREAD.UCKK4
Also I read it in some post that there is some info under the battery it says 10.07. I don't know if that is helpful but I just mentioned it so.
I will be waiting for the reply. Thanks in advance.

A quick forum search and you would've found your answer, but here's the method I repeatedly used. Start at step #5 http://www.android.net/forum/samsun...ead-build-kk4-2-3-5-rooting-instructions.html
Hey, thanks for the reply but I have tried that before and same thing it stops at zimage and nothing happened. However, I will give it a try again when I get home.

Have u tried different usb/micro usb cables and or different usb ports.
U could also just flash KK4 Corn Kernel (i recommend versions 6.03 or 7.0A) through Odin or Heimdall, because u can get Root through the CWM Recovery that is included with these kernels.

I haven't tried different usb/micro usb cable but ya I have tried different usb ports.
I tried to flash the Corn Kernel 7.0A through Odin but It stops at Zimage step. So that didn't help either. But thanks for the idea.

Hey treygrizzard, I tried the option 1 from the link you provided but it didn't work (again it freezes at zImage) and I also tried option 2.
surprising think happened with option 2 I downloaded cornkernel 7.0A (odin flashable) and it finished all the steps but when I went into the recovery mode it didn't have "root" option, and the kernal version didn't change in my phone ("about phone" option). I don't know what should I do?
Did u look under the "advanced" tab while in the cwm recovery of corn kernel v7.0A ? The option for Root should be under that.
The name of the kernel may not be changed under About phone because it might not have been built in by the Dev, but it has been in some of the newer versions.

Actually when I went into the recovery mode it is still "android recovery 3e" and not CWM. I will try to flash it again today and see if that will change to CWM. Should I try corn kernel v7.06? of should I stick with v7.0A when I try it again?
Again thanks everyone for help.
Stay with 6.03 or 7.0A

Ok so I tried to flash it again first with 7.0a and 6.03 but no luck. Odin says "PASS! (0:3)" but when I go into recovery mode it shows "android recovery 3e"
Here is the log from odin for 6.03 (its the same for 7.0a as well) [update - I attached the picture of odin after it flashed the phone]:
<ID:0/005> Initialzation..
<ID:0/005> Get PIT for mapping..
<ID:0/005> Firmware update start..
<ID:0/005> RQT_CLOSE !!
<ID:0/005> RES OK !!

<OSM> All threads completed. (succeed 1 / failed 0)
<ID:0/005> Removed!!
<ID:0/003> Added!!
<ID:0/003> Removed!!
Just so you know before put the zImage file in PDA I had to add ".tar" at the end for the odin PDA to see the file (so from zImage I had to change it to zImage.tar). I don't know if that has to do anything me not getting it to work.
Thanks
Here flash this one View attachment CornKernel_UCKK4_v70A.tar.
It won't work the way u did it. I attached the .tar version from the Corn Kernel thread. It should work.
U can't just rename the zImage. It has to be repackaged, so to speak, through an Archiver.... Winzip, 7zip, IZarc, etc.

I tried it with your .tar file and same thing happens. It stops at the zImage step and than nothing happens. I waited 15 mins but nothing happened. I have attached the image of odin during the flash when it stop. Everytime I try to install the kernel it stops at zImage step, and than it soft bricks my phone and than I have to use the heimdall one click unbrick to make it work. I don't know what to do now. Please help.
Thanks for all the help so far.
The problem has got to be something with the micro usb/usb cable, usb port...or something in relation to these. U need to get a different cable and try. Also be sure on ur pc that u r using a usb port that is in the back of the desktop. Don't use a usb hub. Check the micro usb port on the phone to make sure it is clean of dirt, etc.
Also u could try a different pc. And u could look into using Heimdall instead of Odin, if all else fails.
Keep us posted. Thx.

Ok so far I tired flashing the same .tar file you attached in previous post using heimdall (followed instructions from http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Samsung_Captivate:_Full_Update_Guide).
It didn't help either, it showed an ERROR and than session was ended.
I also tried using different port on my laptop.
My next try is to use desktop computer with the back usb port. I don't have an extra micro USB cable so I have buy another one, so till then I will try to use my desktop computer and see if that helps.
I will keep you posted. Thanks for all the help so far.
at the risk of repeating some of the instructions from other threads . .
have you tried removing the battery and sim card, then without battery or sim in phone, going into download mode with vol up-down keys held while connecting usb?
that was the only way I could get my cappy to flash properly with the design gears kernal rooting method from stock gb kk4. then I flashed corn successfully, when already rooted.

First of all thanks for your advice and I tired the way you said but it didn't help. I took out my battery and sim from the phone and try to go into the download mode with vol-up down keys held and connected my usb cord but nothing happened. It seems like it doesn't work without the battery inserted. So now I am trying to use my friend's computer to see if its my laptop. I really appreciate your advice "laughingT".

OK so now my phone is successfully rooted. Thanks to everyone who put in their advice, especially 4.2ndtwin. I really appreciate your help and answering all the questions.
So basically I think my laptop USB ports doesn't allow me to root, I used my friend's laptop and it work very well and my phone is now rooted using corn kernel. My next step is to install serendipty rom. How is that rom for captivate? any advice on good roms out there that I should try it on my phone. I will also search around the forum to see other people's responses and my choices.

That sometimes help to redetect the tab.

Still no response from Odin.
Any ideas?
Not entirely sure.
But can you follow my signature,
download the GB stock safe v5 package.
Unpack it and use the USB driver in that package?
And Make sure your Odin is 1.7 or just use the one in that package as well.
While you are there, download the PDF too, and if Odin detects, use the guide at page 7, and flash the GB-stock-safe-v5
before that:Make sure Kies is not running.
Maybe uninstall it.

[Q] galaxy tab gt-p7500 stuck with no OS

im having some trouble installing a new OS on my gt-p7500 after wiping everyting. i have TWRP installed but im trying to find a way to push my new rom onto it. when i connect it to my windows 7 based laptop it says that the drivers where not installed. ive installed samsung drivers several times but it keeps saying the same damn thing :/ odin recognizes the device but kies cant connect... any ideas?
You could try flashing the rom anyway. Kies is to install drivers only, if heimdall see the tab, you should be fine. If not, google gt 7500 drivers, should lead to samsung web site to find the drivers for your laptop. Install, and you are good to go.

It could be the same. But, heimdall has more options. A heimdall package i have not used. Normally a rom is in a zip or tar format. Unzip the rom. Open heimdall front end. I have heimdall 1.1. Then put the cache/recovery/param files in the corresponding places. Their is 5 or 6 if i remember right. Then flash. Just do some research first to make sure of everything.
