Yeah but it doesn't matter flashing rooms on here is to complicated.

What rom are you trying to flash? And if you are doing a factoryreset/wipe AFTER you flash the custom rom, you could be erasing your boot.img. if you still want help, you can pm me

[Q] Question about Flashing ICS

I want to Flash Team ICSSGS [Android 4.0.3] (Link to ROM Thread) but I am not for sure what Bootloaders or Kernel I need to use.
I currently have:
Firmware Version: 2.2
Baseband Version: I897UCKB1
Kernel Version: 2.6.32.9
Build Number: FROYO.UCKB1
In general, the Gingerbread bootloaders are preferred with any of the ICS ROMs, because they are more ubiquitous and can be used with virtually any version 2.1 thru 4.0. Kernel-wise, the ICS ROMs come with a kernel, and your only other option is Glitch v14 beta right now...but mostly, you shouldn't need to worry about flashing anything beyond what's in the ROM itself right now.

So that ROM I listed in my OP comes with its own Kernel?
And is there a particular Bootloader I should use?
If there is, may you please link me to it?
Hey im currently running the ROM you are asking about. To answer your questions you have to be on the gingerbread bootloaders. You can flash those using odin, or since there is an official update out, use Kies mini to update your phone to gingerbread and that will flash the bootloaders for you.
About the kernel, the ROM you posted includes a kernel in the .zip and when you install the .zip it will flash the kernel for you. Its a fine kernel and works great so dont worry about changing it unless you have problems.
Here is the link on how to flash the bootloaders using Odin. Its not a hard process and pretty safe so let us know how you come out on the other side!

froyo will still boot. GB BL are backwards compatible and the ISCSGS script should allow it to flash over any ROM
Hi all.
as i can't post yet in a thread mentioned by mrnapolean1 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1362092) I'll try to ask my question here, as it related to a question asked by this thread starter
so i have gingerbread 2.3.5, installed CornKernel_UCKK4_v603 and custom rom SimplyStock KK4 V1.0 , so if i wanted to switch Team ICSSGS [Android 4.0.3] should i do following?
1. wipe data /factory reset
2.wipe system
3.flash from recovery mode Android 4.0.3 zip?
I already have a backup made with Efs Pro as a tar file
anything else i need to do?
thank you so much in advance

Yes, Froyo will still boot. If this were a layer cake it would go something like bootloader, kernel, rom. So basically, your bootloader has nothing to do with your kernel or your rom but it is at the bottom layer of the boot process. It does effect which ROMs you can use though as gingerbread and ICS roms require GB bootloaders. So flash the bootloaders, you will still be on Froyo. Update to GB. Root GB. Place the ROM on your internal SD and then flash it. If you run into any problems check the common problems page found on the first page of the SGSICS ROM.

First, if you want to keep any of your apps or contacts backup those as well using Titanium Backup. Make sure to backup to the External SD card or make a copy of the backup somewhere other than the phones internal SD.
Second, you dont have to wipe data/factory reset before you flash. This is only if you have the problem of a bootloop when you try to install. I had this problem and when I did the wipe data afterward it fixed it immediately. So follow this:
1: Boot into CWM
2: install rom
IF you have an issue with a boot loop at this point
1: Get back into CWM using the button combination
2: Wipe data/Factory Rest and Wipe Cach

IMHO the best way to go from gingerbread to ics 4.0 is to
- in the development section download stock kk4 without bootloaders, unless you dont have them http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1300843
- then download a kernel of your choice probably cornkernal and put it on your internal sd card
- download ICS latest build and gapps and put them on your internal sd
- oneclick odin the stock kk4, let it boot up completely
- power off and install kernal via odin without aut reset
- boot into recovery, factory/data reset, clean cache, clear dalvik, install latest ics, then install gapps right after,
- reboot system and youre done.
IF you want to go back to your other rom the simplest way is to just kk4 fresh install, install kernal via odin, then isntall your rom.
I always keep all my contacts synced with gmail, and titanium backup any game data or app data i need, and reinstall apps through the market.
hope this helps

Phone restarting after flashing to Stock GB ROM

Apologies, but since I am a new user, I was not allowed to post in the thread in developer section.
I had bought a pre owned phone, on Rocket ROM (GB based), however as S-Pen apps were not working I decided to go on the stock ICS rooted way.
I followed the instructions here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997
I had downloaded the stock INdian ROM

I followed the steps, downloaded Odin, and put the TAR file in PDA section, and flashed. All goes fine without error, on the phone it says everything is installed successfully. However after the process the phone just keeps restarting after the Samsung logo.
Have I done anything wrong here? How do I rectify the mistake and get my phone working
Did you clear cache/dalvik or do a wipe in recovery menu ? Looks like it's stuck because of leftover data from previous rom

Umm, pardon my ignorance as I am migrating from an ancient Nokia device.
No, I had done no such thing, no backups too as I just had it for a few days and no data so to speak of.
Should I be doing a wipe in recovery menu? And doesn't flashing the device, formats the memory too?
I think it should, but for some reasons it does not. To get rid of boot loop, go into recovery and clear cache. Should boot properly then
Also, avoid doing a factory reset on stock ics. If clearing cache wont help, i'd suggest flashing gb stock rom, doing a wipe and then upgrading to ics as wiping under ics has caused people a lot of troubles.
Yes you should do a wipe of cache memory and dalvik cache. That is availible from recovery menu. And no they arent allways formatted when flashing a new rom.
To go into recovery, do this.
Device off > vol-up+home+power. And now you are in recovery mode.
Also, avoid doing a factory reset on stock ics. If clearing cache wont help, i'd suggest flashing gb stock rom, doing a wipe and then upgrading to ics as wiping under ics has caused people a lot of troubles.

Thanks, I had read up how much ever I could, and am pretty wary of the emmc bug. Thats the reason I am flashing to a GB based stock rom, and then the ICS stock rom.
The error I got earlier is by flashing to a Indian GB Stock ROM, should I yet clear cache memory in the recovery mode?
A little bit of googling tells me I should be flashing to a ROM with multiple files (different ones for PDA, Modem, CSC etc) hence I am also downloading the stock Europe based ROM. Now the query is would the stock Europe GB ROM, cause any issues to a Note bought in India?
Edit: I wiped the cache partition in recovery mode, but the bootloop persists. I will try flashing to the Europe GB ROM and update.
Thanks, folks was able to install the Europe stock GB ROM, which I later flashed to an Indian stock ICS ROM. I have rooted the phone by a very helpful guide by Dr Ketan, however I miss some of the functions available to me on the rocket GB based ROM. Especially an option to have a data on/off option in quick notifications.
What is the purpose of rooting the stock ROM? Can I delete the bloatware that comes pre-installed on the stock ROM, once the phone is rooted? If yes how?
Any safe custom ICS ROM's you guys recommend? If I am right the correct way right now seems to be to flash a safe GB based ROM everytime before you flash an ICS ROM? Correct?
Last but not the least, thanks to the folks who replied and guided me in the thread, XDA is a very resourceful place, if you search it thoroughly.
About notification toggles - they are available in some roms, in others - not.
As far as rooting is concerned - yes, you can delete almost all the bloatware. There is a thread with APKs that are safe to remove - check it out and feel free to delete everything you won't be using. How ? Simple file explorer with root capabilities will do. Here's the list, thanks to pulser_g2:
https://spreadsheets.google.com/spr...1gdDJRekl4QmkyNmIzUmRvX2h3UDVkQXc&output=html
Safe custom ICS ROMs - I'd say go for CM9. For me, AOSP is the only way to go with Android. If you want TouchWiz based roms, however, can't really help cause i've never used them - there are plenty in development section though.
Nope, you don't need to flash GB ROM everytime. The problem with wipe affects only stock ICS roms ( so with stock-kernel based roms from Samsung, yeah, that's recommended ). But if you're going to flash/change/update roms like CM9, Criskelo etc. there is no need to go back to GB everytime.
Hi i was on ICS stunner and flash via PC Odin Stock GB rom.

[HELP][URGENT]Kingdroid ROM

Hey,
I recently bought SGN and wanted to update to Kingdroid's custom ROM and so i did !.
My SGN was on Ginger bread 2.3.6,what i did was,
1.Root Note(ginger bread with Odin by following Dr.Ketan's guide)
P.S-i did the exact same thing as he mentioned in his guide.
2.Installed later CWM on recovery mode
3.Installed Abbys kernel..(rebooted to recovery later)
a.clear userdata/factory reset.
b.wipe cache
4.Installed Notemania v5.0
Now,the problem is,first time the installation process completed,BUT it did not install the complete thing i.e CAMERA icon was missing,Touchwiz5,and many more apps were missing.
So later i decided to overwrite by reinstalling the mod again.
1.i booted into recovery mode
2.WIPE DATA,CACHE
3.selected install zip from sdcard/notemania v5.0
after selecting install, the installer stopped its progression @ 80%(mounting system ,rootfs) and lagged for almost an hour,i rebooted into recovery mode and rebooted device and it booted,,BUT the installation dint not reach 100%.
STILL camera app was missing and many more.
ive tried installing/overwriting many times(like 10).. its stuck up @ 80%.. i even tried Notemania 4,4..no use, lags @ 80%.
How do i finish the installation and install the COMPLETE ROM PACKAGE(with camera app)?>>>>
Requesting help!! Sorry my first android,so Noob

To go back to stock unrooted ICS, you can flash stock ICS via PC Odin. Since you already know how to safely wipe using Abyss, you can do full wipe in Abyss before putting your phone into download mode and use PC Odin.

Reading the sticky threads with the warnings and tutorials might be the real "ToDo" (if you didn't do this before).
In posts like these here you only get short answers. They include the risk that you do not really understand what the poster meant.
There have been many posts here from members bricking their devices because they didn't invest a little bit time in reading.
I 'invest' a little bit time of answering
Sometimes some people like to reassure themselves by asking confirmation from others..like a second opinion, you know...
So,for getting back onto stock ICS i dont need to involve abbyss or any other kernels right??
just, odin, and 2 stock roms and wipe userdata?

Just read this post from Dr. Ketan for installing stock ICS ROMs.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997
Before installing any custom ROMs/Kernel, you need to read & re-read the instructions carefully. Any missed step will make your device nothing more than a paperweight. Also do read the stickies in the forum for flashing/rooting, etc., it will help you & also you may be able to help someone like yourself by pointing in the right direction.
As Kopitalk told, do not wipe when on ICS. Always be on a safe kernel (GB based preferred) first.

Here is the link on how to install stock rom using odin along with all firmwares and drivers (check the "Preparations" section),
Flash stock rom on Samsung Galaxy Ace S5830 using odin
You can find all the necessary details for flashing as well as all the firmwares in this link. If your PC cannot recognize the phone, its usually the drivers. Once installed, go to recovery mode and do a wipe data/ factory reset & wipe cache (otherwise bootloop might occur). Then restart. Now you have successfully flashed the stock rom. Here is the link for rooting and installing CWM 5 on Samsung Galaxy Ace (just install these zip from the recovery mode),

Before you do any of these things, make sure to backup you apps. Go to CWM and do "Wipe data/ factory reset" and "Wipe Cache partition". Also go to Mount and Storage> Format /system. Finally Advanced> "Wipe Dalvik Cache" and "Wipe Battery Stat". Now reinstall the rom again. It might solve the issue. As for the stable custom rom, you can always go with CM 7 i.e. Android 2.3.7 based roms. CM 7 based roms are much stable than CM 9, CM 10 and CM 11 roms. As per xda rules, I cannot suggest you the best rom. But here is list of all roms for our Ace. You can flash this yourself to decide which is the best. Here is the link,

Once you have installed the stock rom, go to recovery mode and do a wipe data/ factory reset & wipe cache (otherwise bootloop might occur).
i did but still same problem
if i only restart the phone this doesnt happen, only when i shut it down i cant understand this and its so annoying

after flasing a stock rom via Odin, do wipe factory/reset and wipe cache in order to avoid the bootloop, but with CM10.x ROMS NEVER DO WIPES (data factory/reset) OR YOU'LL BREAK THE BOOT!!
To fix it do all the wipes and reflash the CM10.x rom following dev's thread

Might be the problem with the custom rom. Try installing some other custom rom and see if the problem persists. Do post the result. Hope I Helped
