[MOD] One more ***REAL*** auto brightness fix [LL5] - Galaxy S III Android Development

Problem description:
Put you phone on flat surface, like table or keep it horizontally with face up and you will see, that auto brightness works as you expect.
Now if you take phone, and move it first to brigh, than to dark place. Screen will increase back light when you moving phone to brighter place, but will not decrease it in darker place (stick on high level), until you completely close the sensor or move it to completely dark place. Then back light will be set to minimum level.
This is by design by Samsung, but it really stupid and inconvinied.
With this fix auto brightness will not depend on phone orientation and timeouts set to:
Increase - 0.5 sec (stock - 3).
Decrease - 5 sec (stock - never, unless you keep it horizontally with face up or moving in completely dark place(back light may set from maximum to minimum level immediatelly)).
Warnings:
Apply to de-odexed ROM's only.
To insert this fix into Jkay or other modified framework:
1. Decompile ext.jar (Jkay) or services.jar (others).
2. Replace file inside with one, attached here.
3. Recompile.
4. Put it back to your ROM (do not use root explorer, make flashable .zip)

If you run de-odexed LL5 just flash puma_update.zip
If you have Jkay framework, modify it yourself using attached file or ask author for implementing.
If you have another modifications altering /framework/services.jar and do not want to loose it - modify services.jar yourself or ask author (ROM/MOD developer) for implementing.

lets give it a try and see ...

Let me see if I get it...
In latest LL5 all I need to do is flash the puma_update zip file, right?
But if I do this probably something in my UI will change right?
And then I will have to flash my motomoto theme again.... that will change my brightness back to stock...
Is that right?
The stock auto brightness DO bother me.... actually I am looking for something below the minimum in dark places....
Does this mod goes below the minimum?

Not sure.
It should not affect UI, but All tasks for multi-view may be affected.
In this case you should re-compile services.jar, replacing PwerManagement.smali with one attached or ask author of the mod for implementing this mod too.

I'm using it.
The problem - Jkay disallow publishing modifications because some people applying it, than ask him for support.
Sometimes issues related to modifications, but not original framework and he truing to reproduce and fix something, that not exist in his framework.
You can use one of attached .rar (there is one for Jkay14.5.x and one for stock based modified ROMs) file to make it yourself.
It really easy.
Just backsmali, replace file, smali.

This is file from my phone. WanamLite Stock deodex LL5 + Jkay.

Thanks for the code for adding it in jkay framework.
Will try it soon

Here U go flashable zips via CWM 2.5.1.3
Before flash do nandroid backup (just in case)
Nice to see my battery icons in other mods Can i ask something? What else is changed in this framework? (just wondering what are the differences between those and mine for LeeDroid - maybe i could help in someway to fit them more into LeeDroid)
Oh come on.. Now I got a bootloop.
yes, I flashed the .zip with CWM 2.xxx.
What should I do now?
Restore nandroid at first (thats why i asked to make it just in case ). Than try to flash zip with Fastboot mode OFF (settings/aplications). If still wont work i have no idea wtf... u can try to push it via adb aswell. i mean only framework-res.apk to system/framework

Not quite the same mate second zip says it all when charging its numbered
Plus its just the framework .apk its a case of replacing the framework in the Rom to make the battery icon become default battery in the Rom losing nothing

maybe because he trying to flash over the the notification power control with new framework which would rewrite the whole thing would it not
Oh, well, I meant to write notification power control but wrote powerwidget.
And as I said, I don't think it has anything to do with the .zip I flashed because it's working before flashing the power control thing.

[MOD] Lower Auto-Brightness levels to save battery (only KKA FW!)

Thank you to both then! I'm now using Total Screen Control, but it's kinda overkill compared to this patch!
I flash it on firmware KK1 and struck with start up screen loop. How to undo?
Hi, i just tried out this mod on my Phone, so far it works good. But in my opinion is the brightness level still to high. Is there an option where i can adjust the brightness by my own ? Not only by the Slider. So maybe is ith possible that i can adjust some values in a line for the minimum and maximum level of brightness?
thx for help

For example, there are 2 versions of this ROM:

What exactly are the differences then?

The parts of this mod:
- The Framework Hacks: Low-level (smali) edits to some parts of the framework, there are no side-effects, and you don't have to reenter your accounts after installing the mod. This part is the most important part, the additional mod communicates with the control app.
- The Control App: the app which allows you to choose which apps are to be added to the multi window functionality and/or control pre-defined framework-side ones.
The application now is COMPLETELY free.
That said, if you like the app, you can support it by donating any amount you want.

F.A.Q.
Q: Why do I have FlashStatusBar service FC?
A: Most probably because you have installed a mod (transparent for example), the solution would be to use any root capable file manager, and go to data/data and delete the folder named com.sec.android.app.FlashBarService, reboot then try again.
Q: Okay, what if I want to install this mod on a supported, but odexed base?
A: Install the framework files, then use a root capable file manager, and go to /system/app and delete FlashBarService.odex. Then go to /system/framework and delete services.odex as well, and that's it.
NOTE: I have tried this personally, and it worked for me. But many users are reporting that they are stuck at Samsung logo. So try at your own risk, and make sure to backup.
Note: I am not responsible for any action that you make using this mod, or anything that happens to your phone! But I'll be happy to help.

[MOD][MDC]Disable Increasing Ringtone (modded SecPhone.apk)

Description
The Galaxy S4, like its predecessors and some other devices, has a hardcoded "increasing ring" feature where the ringtone starts out quiet and gradually gets louder, reaching full volume in about 3 or 4 seconds. Some people don't want this (like me).
There are two ways to work around this behavior. First, you can use an app, such as Disable Increasing Ring. The advantage is that you don't need root. The disadvantage is that now you have an app running 24/7, using up memory unnecessarily, albeit a very small amount. The second solution is to patch the SecPhone.apk. That's what this mod does.
Most of the credit goes to gharrington in this post whose method I used to patch SecPhone.apk.
Feel free to use in ROMs, redistribute, etc., but remember to give credit.
Instructions
As with all mods, nandroid backup in case something goes wrong. This mod is provided as-is, use at your own risk, etc.
You can install this one of two ways. The ZIP file can be installed from pretty much any recovery, such as TWRP. It will automatically clear cache/dalvik. Or you can manually copy over the APK with a root file explorer.
Note
I'm using a MDC ROM currently, so I modded the SecPhone.apk that came with MDC. I don't know if that particular apk has changed in later official ROM updates. I can easily perform this mod on newer versions if someone wants to PM me newer SecPhone.apk file in /system/app. I'll try to keep this thread up-to-date as newer updates come down the pipe for as long as I have this device.

Update zip: SecPhone.zip - 9.11 MB

It appears as though you can flash the zip in recovery. The .apk is also attached, so you could move that to system/app to replace your existing secphone.apk, set permissions and reboot. Or you could adb push the .apk to the system/app directory and adb reboot. I'm pretty sure any of those methods will work.
Any chance of getting call record enable in your apk?

Well I applied the necessary patches, but it didn't work. The button appears, but the button doesn't activate anything or sometimes the phone app just crashes when you press it. It just might not work with MDC as I saw others stating basically the same thing with MDC ROMs. You can try the MDN version in that post. Unfortunately, I don't know enough about what's going on behind the scenes, so I don't know how to debug this. It's too bad because call record would be really handy.
Still waiting on ForceROM to update to MDL then I can get to work on the MDL version.
Can you post the file so I can try it? Im on ForceROM running MDL...

I appreciate the effort and I'm sure we somehow will get a universal record method on this soon..

Center Clock and no Carrier text

So, thanks to this thread by @Ticklefish and of course the great work by @scrosler giving us CleanROM 1.1. I made a "center clock and Carrier Text removed" (from normal status bar, it's still on lockscreen status bar though) SystemUI.apk.
This is deodexed and so you need to be on a deodexed ROM or I think you can just delete the files in the arm64 folder, but I'm not 100% on if that will work.
Put the file in /system/priv-app/SystemUI/ and change permissions to 0644.
If this does not work, don't blame me, I am not the one moving the files and such on your phone, you are, and so YOU take responsibility for YOUR actions.
Edit: had to remove the ROM from the other thread, there was a misunderstanding of the Dev's ROM OP which lead to me thinking it was OK to use, it was not. I may try again but it'll be a while, I have much more important things in my life then redoing work.
Nice!
On that thread, there is a post with a smali mod for stopping the clock from showing on the lockscreen. I can't guarantee that it'll work but it's worth trying!

Aye, it was after midnight when I finally realized why my status bar icons we're messed up (an android:layout_width issue). I'll try that in a bit lol. Have to take care of the little one's breakfast first.
Just to verify clean rom is NOT deodexed by default correct?

Correct. I may come out with a whole ROM based on clean ROM and deodexed but kiddos come first lol.

Got it all fixed up and put it onto a deodexed version of @scrosler clean rom. Again thanks for the tips and guide.
Update. Redid the ROM based on stock. It's up again in the development section.
So on stock rooted:
Just replace the original systemui.apk with this one, make sure permission is 0644 and restart?

Not unless you want bootloops. This is deodexed. You need a deodexed ROM. You MAY be able to delete the files in arm64 folded and replace the apk with mine, then fix permissions and reboot. I can't promise that will work though as I've not tried.
I knew it couldnt be that easy

Lol. Unfortunately I wasn't able to make the mods when it's odexed. I have a deodexed ROM in the development section if you want to try that.

Deodexed or no? Clean rom is no deodexed by itself. Also the SystemUI is pulled from OE2 so it probably won't work on OCE based ROMs
Is there an easy way to remove the carrier text without flashing this file?

Keep a notification active ( signal check keeps your signal in notification, blocking AT&T, sure others like tasker and such can to).
No other easy way I know of. Convince the system your on a different carrier ( not sure how). Get exposed to work and make a module. Decompile SystemUI yourself and make the XML changes.

Google around for CSC edits. You can change a CSC value to imitate a Verizon S6 and you'll lose the carrier notification.
Can you please post how you centered the Lock Screen clock ?

Just point the file and the change please.
WOuld be great.
