Basically, i'm fed up with waiting around until "fixes" are released for the Nexus(web browser crashes, 720p ac3 .mkv video crashes, etc) & miss the Rezound i used to have. Someone though has offered me $300 cash + a Bionic for my Nexus. I'm tempted, but would like to know a few things first. I see the Bionic's been rooted, but what about switching out kernals/radios? Can you overclock the Bionic?

not able to switch kernels at the moment, radios can be flashed but once you do it you risk being off the ota path since Moto wants to be *****es about it
you can overclock to 1.2 ghz, but it's not worth it imo since the gains aren't that noticeable

hmm.. i guess you're right there. when i overclock this Nexus, it improves the 'benchmark scores' a bit but actual system performance doesn't seem to change at all. i think i'm gonna check out this dude's Bionic & make sure everything checks out ok(esn especially) & go from there.
Damn that's a good deal. I say do it.

That is a damn good deal.
I have both devices and the Bionic is superior to the Gnex is many important ways, like radio performance and battery life, to name to big ones.
Then there is Webtop, which is a very cool and unique feature of Motorola devices.
ICS is very slick and the Gnex is a very enjoyable device to use but definitely suffers from some pretty severe issues and shortcomings.
Your buddy is nuts! That is a ridiculous deal and you could probably make money even reselling it.
cellzealot can attest to it - a lot of people have been testing long and hard, and he and P3 have summed up a lot of info from the forums and from personal testing to give a nearly bulletproof method of putting you back on the OTA upgrade path even if you decide to take a walk on the wild side.
I was *****ing and moaning 6 months ago about a locked bootloader, and then I started looking at the hardware - and I realized that this thing really is a diamond in the rough. Now, I couldn't be happier.
6 months from now when ICS is pushing to our phones, you're going to be amazed at the capabilities of this device.
Also, think about it - Motorola almost always has really good chips - and they developed the LTE chip in the BIONIC in house. I'm betting on that chip. And I think they are too, because if it turns into an eventual success, then they'll have a template on how to start developing other chips as well, and thereby have a nearly proprietary device within 10 years, is my guess.

BTW, I'm quoting this post over at AF lol
I have a Galaxy Nexus and a Bionic...The bionic is my daily driver (I use the micro sim with an adapter so I can switch between the two.)
I was ready to throw my Bionic out the window a short while ago, but since I've been on a rooted .901 there is no going back to the nexus!

That sounds like one hell of a deal, I'd go for it. The full 5.5.893 stock restore fastboot files just leaked so restoring is no problem, I just used it myself.
I've been dealing with the Android OS battery life drain bug ever since I applied the last update and I'm hopeful reflashing the stock image fixed it but otherwise I love my Bionic and it'll only get better once the ICS update becomes available.
What you mean I didn't know the galaxy nexus uses a micro sim card

The Galaxy Nexus does use a micro SIM...you need the adapter to put the microSIM back into the Bionic. I cut my Bionic SIM down to fit the Gnex and cut another old SIM to be an adapter to use in the Bionic. Works great.
All new lte phones will be micro sim

Hello, I'm currently using a Motorola Defy, but I need a phone with a bigger screen, so I can edit documents, like word, excel, etc...reading PDF documents, browse on the web a little bit more comfortable, not gaming since I don't play a lot on the phone; that being said, would you recommed a Motorola Atrix HD to me? I was planning to make a BIG effort to get a Samsung Galaxy S3, but, checking on the specs of both, the screen is almost the same, the camera quality is almost the same, I know Motorola Atrix is 2 cores and Galaxy S3 is 4, but for my normal usage 2 cores is more than enough and the difference on the price is also a big plus.
I have being offered with a good deal for the Atrix HD, what do you say? take it or leave it? I would highly appreciate your comments, thank you.
EDIT: this device can be rooted? talking about Samsung Galaxy S3 and HTC One X, these can be rooted?
The latest HTC One X and the Motorola Atrix HD both share the fact they cannot be rooted. You have to get an older HTC One X if you plan on getting root/romming it. While I am not a big Sammy fan, they would be your best bet for rooting.
Well, rooting is important for me :S despite the fact that the phone is not able to be rooted so far...would you recommend it? thanks you!
Despite the non-rooting, I would say that the AHD is a top quality phone. Yes, the SGIII is more powerful machine, but for the $50 I paid for AHD and the $199 I would have paid for the SGIII, it is worth ever dollar.
Just inquiring to how the sg3 is a more powerful phone?
ATRIX HD feels like much more solid phone.
They both have the s4 processor, Same GPU, and the ATRIX HD has better resolution.

It has 2GB of memory, much better camera, and some of its NFC capabilities is superior, and its info says that it is compatible with the 64 GB sdcard unlike the AHD and the internal sdcard for GSIII is 16GB / 32GB and the AHD only has 8GB

2 GB of ram goes a long way. I know there's a fair amount of wasted ram not being used, but it really does make a difference. The removable battery is a huge bonus and the amount of development on this phone is shockingly underwhelming compared to any variant of the Galaxy S3 (obviously, since global sales of that phone are now over 30 million units). That said, the Atrix HD is a fantastic phone for $49. While Touchwiz has a lot of cool features, Motoblur feels much more polished (in my opinion).
It basically comes down to what you're looking for in a phone. If it's a flagship handset that will be updated by the manufacturer for the duration of your contract and also has the most development of any phone not named Nexus, then the Galaxy S3 is the obvious choice. If you're looking for something a bit cheaper, don't care that it doesn't have all the latest features (pitiful internal storage, gross multi tasking, and no NFC come to mind) but for all intents and purposes does everything a Galaxy S3 can do, then the Atrix HD is a great choice. I like this phone a lot, especially at its price point. However, as soon as the Note 2 drops and doesn't cost ~$800, I'll be moving to that. This phone will never have the developer following that either Samsung phone will have and I won't be stuck for the duration of my contract with a phone that has reached its life expectancy 8 months into my contract.

I'm stuck trying to decide which way to go also. My contract just went up but i'm not renewing until I see the new phones at the end of the year. But until then i'm gonna get something. So i've been checking out the atrix hd and one x. I found a good deal on both. 200 for a brand new in box ahd or 280 for a rooted mint condition one x. After playing with both at the at&t store, i'm leaning towards the ahd just because I like the interface better. I like the almost stock ics. But after reading through the forums i'm not so sure anymore. Not being able to save apps onto the sd card really sucks. I don't understand why motorola would do that. Other posts about dead pixels, gps/wifi issues, led notification, phone won't turn on, etc. I don't know if it's worth it anymore. Since i'm not buying from retail I won't be able to return/replace if I have any of these issues. I'm not too worried about root as i'm sure someone will figure that out eventually. I'm gonna buy one of these tomorrow, I just hope I get the right one.

Having had both I would definitely go with the One X. The 16 gb of internal storage with no micro sd card slot is a real pain in the ass, but the better screen, camera, and form factor definitely make up for it.

Honestly it's all really a matter of opinion. I personally would go with the Atrix HD simply because of the microSD card slot alone....internal storage can be EASILY filled up these days, whether it's music, videos, pictures, applications, and/or games. Having a 32 GB card in my Atrix certainly alleviates the storage issue. Also, the Atrix HD's camera isn't nearly as bad as some people would claim, and has only been further improved with the latest firmware update (particularly with noise and low light performance). As for the screen, both have lovely screens so it would be hard to go wrong with either.

It's a tough decision you have, but I would still go with the Atrix HD. The build quality on my phone has been fantastic and I have had no issues whatsoever with anything. As for not being able to save applications onto the SD card, that is not something that Motorola actually chose to do - rather, it was the choice that Google made when they designed Ice Cream Sandwich. You won't be able to save apps to external memory on the One X.
Also, root shouldn't be an issue for too long.

My main gripe with the ahd is the fact that you can't save apps to the external sd card. WTF. No other phone does that. And they're slick about it too. There is no mention about that only that they have expandable memory as if they're better than one x non-expandable. At least the one x has double the space for apps. I bet there are a ton of returns because of that and unhappy customers hitting their app limit not knowing it can't save to the sd. Besides that, I really like the phone and I still might get it..lol

I was under the impression Motorola made that decision. If not, WTF google! Even though the one x doesn't have expandable sd, you can use all of the 16gb internal for apps. I do like the build quality of the atrix better than the one x. I don't really care about the camera as that's not my thing. I'm just disappointed that i'll only have about 5gb available for apps. Let's just hope this thing gets rooted and this whole issue can be fixed with a new rom. Thanks for the inputs guys.. I still have a few hours to decide which to get. I'll post up my purchase later today.

Most One X's sold in the last two months are un-rootable. An OTA (2.20) in early august prevents rooting, which is required to unlock the boot loader (by spoofing a different device because the AT&T version is not supported), which is required to install custom recovery, to flash ROMs. If easy root and ROMs is your goal you want a Samsung device.

Go for a Note II, you wont see much improvement if you choose the Atrix HD. Besides it doesn't have a lot of development yet, and the battery life is not that great.
At least If I had the Note, I wouldn't pick the Atrix HD
You can EASILY put into Atrix HD 3300mAh Droid Razr MAXX's battery (EB40) and battery life will be DA BEST!!
With that battery phone is actually 1,5mm thicker!

Dude, we've been unlocked for 4 days now....you gotta be more patient for the development to pick up.
Battery life isn't that bad when the rom has been debloated -- I get around 24+ hours per charge on a slim Mex Retail; plus there's the MAXX battery mod...
The camera is good enough to take decent pictures in decent lighting, especially if HDR can be effectively used. Personally, I don't judge a phone by the camera quality since a phone's camera will never compete with an actual camera (at least not for a few more years).
If you can get an AHD on the cheap then its a good phone.
I was going to up some pictures I've taken, but I accidentally wiped them in a factory reset...they were private on instant upload, but they're gone from there too. I had two that were the same, only difference was HDR on and off (bobtail kitty on a Harley seat sleeping)

I agree, but that's been my experience with ANY cell camera. Some are better than others, but if someone is really into taking pictures all the time they're better off just getting a dedicated camera.
The AHD is a really good phone and the unlocked bootloader makes it that much better. This is a Motorola phone with an unlocked bootloader so we get the best of both worlds -- unlocked bootloader and superior Motorola build quality. We buy Moto phones because we can throw them full strength at a tree and it'll bounce off and won't break, not because they take good pictures.
The worst I've ever done to a Moto Android Phone was wear out the volume buttons with CWM (Bravo) and drop it 8+ times onto concrete before the screen cracked (again, Bravo). I had an Old School Moto RAZR flip that I ran over, threw at a tree, literally ripped the top half off (no screen at all) and it worked for 3 months untill I upgraded the contract and got an iPhone3Gs (ugh) and traded that for my first Android phone -- Motorola Bravo.
The worst thing about Moto phones now is that Dan isn't gonna make root exploits for us so I either gotta start buying the Dev Editions or switch to another brand, probably Sony.
thanks for your time guys !
i will think about it and decide accordingly !
thanks..

Atrix HD has a gorgeous screen and build quality. My sisters are using Note and Note 2. Software is good but the build quality sucks. It's all covered with plastics. Doesn't seem to be a high end smartphones.
If you don't mind with prices and build quality,go for Note 2. Note 2 is almost half price of Atrix HD. I would consider buying a notebook over a phone with the same high price.
Camera quality of AHD is almost same as Note in a good light condition. But in a low light it's worse. Sound via speaker is better than Note. But,I haven't compared both in headset quality.

I had a nexus 4 16gb. Got it on the 2nd round in Nov 2012. Got it RMA replaced Dec 2012. No otg, no external storage. It has interesting features, you have to buy miracast device, compatible qi wireless charging and NFC is iffy. Worked fine, but IMHO a boring bland device. I tend to do more with the AHD as is..
I personally only root for adaway and a few root apps.
N4's camera isn't any better, but it's battery life is. Its also less bloated.
I also get much better signal with the AHD. That said its my backup phone until the xphone drops.

I agree. I currently have an Atrix 2, which doesn't even have an unlocked bootloader. And even for that phone, the XDA forums are fairly active, with new JellyBean-based ROM builds coming out several times a month. For example: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2050705
I would expect that the Atrix HD, being a newer phone with an unlocked bootloader, will see at least as much development as the Atrix 2.
I think it's a pretty strong phone for it price, the phone has any defects?
What I mostly want from the phone is a strong battery that will last a day at least, to be smooth and everything else is just a bonus currently using mytouch 4g and it's fine but kinda slow with a real bad speaker :\
I'm not playing any heavy games if I'm playing games at all. mostly care about browsing and general usage.
or there's anything else in it's price? (280$)
Thanks in advance
The battery is decent but if you stick the razr MAXX battery in it it becomes awesome. And if you unlock and run aokp or cyanogenmod it's very quick and responsive. The speaker is pretty good. I like the **** out of it. Its my favorite out of all my phones.

The stock battery is awful. Modding to have the 3300 adds another 50 bucks so I would say no, go and look other phone, this is not what you want.

First off, it's a Motorola so sub-par battery life is somewhat expected.
However, one can easily get away with a good 12~15 hours. (Possibly more depending on how and what you use the phone for.)
If you're willing enough, you could go for the MAXX Battery mod and get an ungodly amount of battery life...
What else was there... Oh yeah, GPS is a little screwy on any 4.2 roms, so be prepared if you're going to flash one.
Other than that, there are a ton of tools around the forums to help you get the phone how you like it...

Couldn't find any other phone that seems as strong as this one. Only xperia arco hd but it doesn't have support in this forum so I'll rather get this one.
Except for the battery there's something else that made you not recommend it?
And if 4.2 roms have problems with the gps, there's any good 4.1 roms without bugs?
In my mytouch 4g I have heating issue when plugging in headphones and the phons restart itself dveru once in a while, the screen is fflipped sometimes sometimes.
I would like to know if there's any rom issues with this phone before I buy it.
Thank you all for your help.
The 4.1 roms run fine including gps. And for 4.2 there's a work around for the gps that works on about 65% of people's phones. Regardless this is a great phone and its a shame att and motorola sent it to fail while Verizon gets all the flagships.

Lucky us for having this forum
So for 4.2 it's either working gps or not working at all? Or is it working for everyone but hardly working?
There's a process to follow before flashing a 4.2 rom to keep gps working if not then it won't work. Navigation wise it won't locate except for through wifi.

Ok so I have the s3 mibi and s2 plus in my country, if I'll buy the atrix hd there's a chabcge of tax pricing wich will cost me 1.33x325 dollars.
The s3 s2 plus and atrix hd are all in the same price (for atrix hd without tax).
Atrix hd is not available in my country, which one should I choose?
Well if it's not available. Why even look at it? Lol.

I wanted to order from ebay, I just saw that the seller won't mark it as a gift and write a low price so there will be no tax.
So galaxy s3 mini or s2 plus? what's better?
Haven't heard of either.

Atrix HD
This phone has several advantages: 1. Compatible with all networks unlocked.
2. Up to 20Mbps with excellent signal in good service area/big cities.
3. Easy to repair( 1 T5 screwdriver fits all screws) 4. Compatible with every app/emulator/ROM/etc. I have tried.
5. Beautiful screen. 6. Good quality manufacturing makes phone solid and resistant( paired with otter box defender series,
Phone is prepared for urban life) 7. Beats audio pro(once rooted)(extensive tests yes its good).
8. Device spoofer/hack APpS work. 9. Runs ps1 perfect. 10. With winamp pro eq,
Volume can be increased for music. 11. Gets LTE on T-Mobile per paid unlocked
Where available. 12. Low price where available.
---------- Post added at 10:05 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:51 PM ----------
Disadvantages: 1. No matter which custom ROM you install right now
They all have glitches and none work right with vehicle mode( Navigation Dock attached, GPS, intermittent
Freezes/ lags-with stock ROM you can disable bloatware and uninstall with uninstaller).
2. Hardware limitations prevent 42Mbps on Tmobile- throughput maxed at 20Mbps.
3. No gyroscope.
I absolutely love this phone. I've had this phone for a few months and have had little to no issues with it. Now that I've downgraded back to ICS and have lapdock support I'll most likely not change phones any time soon. Best phone choice I've made since the Droid 1

I have it but I don't recommend it. The software is kind of slow but hopefully an update will come out soon. I'm stuck with it but I would go for a Samsung phone.

Do you think this would be a good trade? I have always liked Motorola, but my main questions...has the camera quality improved with the Jelly Bean update? Is the camera quality as bad as the reviews say? I'm not even how sure bad the quality was before Jelly Bean. Also, how is the speakerphone quality? Is it clear/loud?
I think the camera quality is great no problems here and the speaker is loud and clear definitely!! My friend has a s3 and I would definitely take my HD over it. The quality of this phone is way better than the s3 also!!

I had a chance to get an S3, I prefer the Atrix. I can't really say anything about the quality of the camera because I've never really payed attention to it, and I don't use speaker But the ROMs here are really starting to pick up and all that's left is the camcorder, and we've got amazing devs such as dhacker29, hashcode, and the famous dan rosenberg was here a while too. Dhacker and hashcode are working on a 3.4 kernel so it'll get good soon. And i think the community here is awesome and give the best advice. In my opinion i think the atrix is a good trade
Your s3 camera is superior to ours just because of Sammy's software. You may notice a difference. Lowlight shots are pretty bad on the ahd. Otherwise its a good camera. Motorola has a better feel and build quality over the s3 any day.

What they said. We buy Motorola because a Motorola is the only phone I've thrown pissed off hard from a truck at 25 miles per hour into a tree 30 ft away (a one in a million lucky shot), have that phone get rained on over night, and still work just fine without a scratch in the morning when it was found -- a razr flip phone....Only 25 mph cause you can only accelerate so fast on a gravel road
The camera will do in a pinch in decent lighting. Its not the worst but nothing to really brag about either. I will say that the HDR photos look good in stock jellybean, even in sup par lighting. Customs roms don't have HDR yet, or camcorder, but it's being actively worked on by talented developers.
Its a very solid device. I traded my One x for it and I'm very happy. Build quality is great and battery life is better than the One X. I feel as if the camera is good but the software is lacking. When using Instagram everything comes out crisp and clear. When using the stock camera pictures come out grainy. The speaker is loud without being muffled. Development is really starting to pick up which is great. Great phone.

Thanks for all the input! I have decided that I am definitely going to trade. Seems like a very solid device and motorola has always made good hardware. At least the camera "issues" can always be improved with software.

When I upgraded contracts earlier this year, I could have gotten the S3. I looked on XDA and saw the difference in development, but thought, its a Motorola, it'll pick up...never did I imagine that a few weeks later we'd be unlocked and the development would REALLY pick up. This is the best of both worlds. Motorola Quality with Unlocked Bootloader Development -- you can't ask for much more in the Android World.
I'll also say that our Development Team are some of the best devs on XDA. The things they've accomplished over the years is amazing -- I've followed some of our devs since I first started using Android.

I love my atrix HD and the s3 is a decent phone, I've had very little time to really work with it. The Atrix really does have a better quality build wise and minus all the touchwiz Lol. I've had my atrix for about 6 months and its been by far my favorite phone since the Droid 1

Youngunn2008's right, can only Sell on Swappa..putting a link in your signature is the best you can do on XDA to sell/trade.

The S3 has everything this phone has and more, including a better camera and custom ROMs with not only everything working, but also tweaked kernels that don't cause the phone to randomly reboot or have horrible battery life.
There is literally no reason to trade the S3 for this phone unless you drop/throw your phone at a wall constantly.
The battery life has a simple solution. Put the eb40 battery in. Then it trumps the galaxy. And I haven't had any random reboots on any of the new Roms.
Sent from my PACMAN MATRIX HD MAXX
last time i checked people were still having problems with battery swelling with the eb40.
also battery life alone does not trump the s3

Been running maxx mod with NO SWELLING. And build quality on s3 is sh!t. My phone shouldn't creak when I hold it. Everything else is great because Samsung doesn't secure their sh!t and the devs had A 6 MONTH HEADSTART ON US.
Why don't you trade for a s3 and be gone, or stay and HELP US. Cuz we are doing our very best to even have custom Roms. Do you want to go back a couple months to that purgatory we were stuck in? In a couple months maybe it'll even be up to your standards. Or maybe you'll find ANOTHER ISSUE TO COMPLAIN ABOUT.
