[Q] is my Kindle Fire HD Bricked?

Hello, So I'm new to the Android Operating system, a bit of a windows guy, but not so much for linux. I Rooted my Kindle Fire HD, got the apex launcher, chrome...etc... I was removing amazon stuff that i didnt want and I accidentally removed SetupWizard.apk I noticed my navigation bar was gone. Here's were the true stupidity comes in. I Deleted SetupWizard.apk, I then reinstalled SetupWizard.apk from a Galaxy something
Now when i turn on my device, it loads up, says "Setup Wizard has stopped" and contiunes to inform me this everytime I hit ok. Can't change any settings, and the device is not able to be switched into adb mode, but it is recognized as simply a kindle on my PC. Is there any hope?? if i could get to settings im sure i could figure something out.

Do you have a factory cable?
If you don't you can order one from skorpn
or you can make one if you know how to solder
Once you have it, it's easy to deal with your problem

The factory cable is a little different. But, you may not need one.
Turn your device off and enter the following command:
Code:
fastboot -i 0x1949 getvar product
When you see "waiting for device" turn your KFHD on and that should put it in fastboot mode. In fastboot, you will be able to restore a stock "system.img" and repair your device.

Fastboot and ADB are two completely different programs that work in completely different modes. As long as your drivers are in good working order, you should have nothing to worry about.

Ok, I have the computer at waiting for device, after downloading an image to restore. The Kindle is now black, nothing on the screen. Is it working? or should I try to turn it off and on again

UMM...Where did you get this image that you restored to the device? What command did you use to flash it into place?

It is okay, Don't panic.
But you really need a fastboot/factory cable now, Once you have it,
Let us try something a little different, You now have 3 .img files in you backup folder in C:\KFFirstAide\backup, Correct?
Take those files outside the folder now they are in C:\KFFirstAide
Hold down Shift and right click anywhere in the folder
Choose Open command window here
Turn off your device and then connect the fastboot cable, The device should power up and then fastboot logo is displayed
Copy and paste these commands in the command prompt window
fastboot -i 0x1949 flash boot boot.img
Should say
sending...
okay (time)
writing...
okay (time)
fastboot -i 0x1949 flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot -i 0x1949 flash system system.img

...but, I've rarely seen this situation turn out for the better.
It was never actually confirmed what Kindle Fire HD he is using.
I've flashed my system.img dozens of times and I've never seen anything like he's describing. From what I've seen, and considering the system.img was sent, we're looking at two possible scenarios; there was a malfunction in prokenexxusa's software OR user error played a part in the the resulting outcome.
Of the two, it's generally safe to assume the latter.

It is a kindle fire HD 7; 16 GB it was on 7.2.3.

So is it fixed?

Help with boot Recovery/Loop

Let me start by saying that I'm new to the Android scene and that I'm currently deployed in the Navy so Internet is slow and time consuming. So if you help can you please provide links to what I need and in specific detail? I would greatly appreciate this.
Yesterday I was trying to replace my stock Lock screen photos by editing the file framework-res.apk. All I did was replace the stock photos with photos of my own. To make a long story short it didn't work. Now when I boot my Kindle Fire 7" HD it boot's into a recovery screen. The boot shows a White "Kindle" and a orange "Fire". Once that's complete it goes to a screen that says
Kindle fire System Recovery
Your Kindle doesn't seem to be able to boot...
I tried the Reset to Factory Defaults but this doesn't work. My kindle was on FW 7.2.3 and was Rooted. I don't think I ever made a back up of anything. I guess I need help getting back to stock 1st and then I'll figure out how to ROOT it again. I just want the thing to work while I'm on deployment.

So no one has answered me yet so I did some digging around and have a couple questions that hopefully someone can answer.
I have a Factory Cable on the way so I can put my Kindle Fire in FastBoot mode. For some reason the computer wont recognize my Kindle through adb, so I'm using the below trend to install the adb, but not ROOT the kindle. That step will be later. Is this the best way to install the Drivers to access my Kindle? And will adb still work with the FastBoot mode?

Once I have the drives installed and the computer see's the Kindle I plan on using the below trend to re-flash the .img back to the kindle. I also plan on upgrading to 7.3.0 as I'm on 7.2.3 right now.

Thanks for the reply, I hopefully will get the KFHD_SRT v1.3.0 tool soon, I'm having it sent to me through the mail as seeing as the file is over 1gb and I can't really download anything to the ship. I know I'm still waiting on my cable. Once I get it I hope to be back up and running.

I apologize for yet another of these types of posts as I know there are a ton because I've been searching through them for a few days now. I can't seem to find a solution to my problem that works so hopefully someone can point me to the correct thread or help me directly. Here is my problem:
I have a Kindle Fire HD 7". I had successfully rooted the device, but then I went and screwed all that up by trying to mod it to get the android market (I, as a noob, changed a system value I shouldn't have - oops). After that, my kindle was/still is stuck on the System Recovery screen. The one where you can choose to reboot or erase all/reboot. Tried both, didn't work, got a factory cable from Skorpn (thank you!!).
I can now get my kindle to to show 'Fastboot Kindle Fire' on it's screen, but my computer doesn't recognize it as a Kindle. It shows it as 'Tate-PVT-08'. I found some threads on here about that and downloaded the drivers/installed them. The computer still does not recognize it as anything other than the tate thing. Grar. I have the android sdk stuff and the KFFirstAide. I'm using Windows 7 OS if it matters. But I do not know how to proceed without getting the dumb computer to recognize my device, so please help me out if you know how to do this. I'm about ready to throw the darn thing into the street and run it over multiple times with my jeep! It's been unusable for 6 months now! And yes, I'm a pathetic noob, and a girl to boot so keep that in mind... I apologize.

User stunts513 has a driver install package in his signature & profile that you can use to get your drivers working properly. If that doesn't work, you may want to try other, non-Windows based options.

Thanks for the pointer - I think it got me a tiny bit further. After finding the package and 'fixing' drivers - woo-hoo - my computer is saying that the device is working properly now, I can see it as 'Kindle Fire' in my device manager. However, it still is showing up as 'Tate-PVT-08' under Devices and Printers, and it cannot be found (isn't communicating) with ADB. I feel like I'm missing something so small to be able to move forward and reflash this thing - it's so incredibly frustrating to not be able to find it. :/
I also have tried editing the adb usb file to include the 0x1949, having gone through the adb kill/start-server commands several times, which hasn't changed anything. Is there anything I am missing to get windows and adb to communicate with it? Or is my only option at this point trying 'non-Windows based options'?

You don't use adb commands with fastboot, you use fastboot commands. I think at this point you said you have kffa, so try getting it to reflash the system image. I don't know the option number though.

Sooo, I feel even stupider now. I do have KFFA, so I tried to reflash the system image. It went through and gave me a success, although it did have an issue with erasing user data and cache. It said to disconnect from the computer/usb and power down, then restart. I did that and was super hopeful - it went through the boot screen a few more times than normal... but then BAM. Right back to the Kindle Fire System Recovery screen that it can't get past. Ugh. I must have really screwed something up on it.

Hmm. I just did some more digging on fastboot commands and found the fastboot mode guide on here. Going through that, I checked my hardware IDs, and one of the numbers are off, which according to the guide means that my Kindle isn't in fastboot mode (and this is while using the fastboot cable). If I use a regular USB cable, it doesn't show up at all anywhere. The more I research, the more confused I get. Everything seems geared towards fixing your device if it is stuck in a bootloop (mine goes through that and sticks at the recovery screen) or being able to get it into fastboot, which I cannot seem to do even with the cable. I guess I'm going to try to uninstall and reinstall the drivers for it again, but I'm starting to believe that whatever value I changed while in super user mode before my problems began are going to make it impossible to fix...

The hardware I'd should be 0x1949, and at this point I'm guessing maybe something is wrong with something in the data partition or you have a bad kernel. I don't know how to wipe the data partition from fastboot though. I don't know if kffa reflashes the boot partition, but you could always try that since a system reflash didn't work, or you could try reflashing the system image again, there's another tool in the android development section called kindle fire system restore tool, maybe it will work better for you. Ignore the part about that adb command, that's only for of your kindle can actually boot up.

Be very careful of what guides you use around here. Some of them (fastboot guide in particular) are made with the original Kindle Fires in mind, and can lead you to do irreversible damage.

I'll try that in the morning... I spent most of my day at this and need a break! Thank you so much for trying to help me out. I really appreciate any and all pointers.

Tate in "System Recovery" after trying Wallpaper Fix on 7.4.9

I hope I can find some help. I have already searched this forum and some others but could not get a real picture what to do next (probably my Mac could be a problem here...)
I got a Kindle Tate (7" 2012) with 7.4.9.
I rooted it but did neither install a second bootloader nor a custom ROM. Only rooted and play store installed.
Today I tried to apply the wallpaper fix which changes the framework-res.apk file.
I looked at the shell script as my mac did not have the XML tool needed and so I replaced the value myself.
It seems now that the file got somehow corrupted and the Kindle is only booting to System recovery screen with red triangle now.
Of course the recovery does not help
I do not yet own a fastboot cable (unknown how to get one in Germany and I am not able to solder one - maybe the one on ebay.de stating for "Kindle Fire" could work)
On my Mac adb does not recognize the device and neither does fastboot (but ok I only got a standard cable)
What could I do next? At the moment I only got a windows running in VirtualBox which does not help as the Kindle is not recognized by the mac and can therefore not been forwarded to Win emulation.
Fastboot should as far as I understand also work from Mac if the device could boot there...

Not sure about Mac but I know you will need a fastboot cord. There's no way around that. You need to flash the factory images via fastboot. You can use SRT to restore as well.

Thanks the cable arrives today.
Kindle is now working again, just had to flash the "system" image.
Had a little trouble with that as fastboot on mac seems to be buggy sending commands (at least there is a open bug on that) - there was no output the first try (did not even know that there should be one...) but after rebooting fastboot mode again and reconnecting it flashed the system in 6 minutes.

I put together this tool for those that have tried to modify their system unsuccessfully and bricked their device. You must be able to get your device into fastboot for this to work. The easiest way is to purchase a factory cable or make your own(a $15 purchase or a little bit of your time is better than a bricked device).
The .img's in this tool were made from a rooted device w/ the su binary in place. There is no need to re-root your device, however if you choose to erase cache and user data(not necessary but may be a good idea) you will need to re-install Superuser.apk to gain root.
Instructions:
1.) Download the version you want to use from the link below and unzip.
2.) Enable fastboot mode. Turn off your device then plug into your pc using a factory cable. If the device is recognized by adb then you can use this command:

3.) Run the SR Tool.bat and follow the instructions. If you wish to downgrade system versions see instructions at the bottom of the post.

My kindle fire hd is just staying on the beginning fastboot screen. my computer doesn't recognize it or anything. i think i accidentally deleted almost everything on it including the whole OS by using TWRP, so if someone could help it would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like you need to install the correct drivers. Download and install the driver from this link:

My Kindle lost root.. So I downloaded and installed a super user... not sure what version off hand...
But its still not rooted.
I originally chose the option for the factory restore with root, Google Play Store, and the launcher.. And it was rooted for a couple of days.. I'm not sure if it lost root during reboot or not.
On a side note, it also no longer allows me to access storage through my PC. So I've been having to download everything straight to the Kindle.. Not sure if that matters... But I can't back it up because I can't save the backup files to my PC..
Any suggestions? Do I need to clear cache and dalvik for superuser to work? I've been hesitant to go into recovery mode..

Did it auto update to 7.5.1? That would explain why you lost root.

Yes! Can I downgrade? And how to stop the update?
Or better yet I'll poke around to see about rooting 7.5.1..
Its my son's, so while I've flashed my android devices a billion times, this Kindle is a whole other thing...sorry for the questions..

You can either downgrade and then block auto update (look for threads with otacerts) or root 7.5.1. I believe the binary method still works.

OK I was able to get it back to 7.3.0...and even flashed it twice and cleared cache and user data...
But now the wifi won't turn on. I tried to click on ...nothing..

What about if i'm using a fastboot cable, and when i type adb devices or fastboot devices it still doesn't show up? I have the drivers installed for the fastboot cable but it just never shows up. I've been trying to use your tool to fix my bricked kindle that is stuck in a boot loop and has no system.img.

As I am stuck in a bootloop, will I recover my kindle if I only restore the boot image?

Kindle Fire HD 7" overhaul
I tried to post this as a reply to "how to downgrade kindle fire hd" thread but as I'm a newb here, I was redirected to this thread. So here it goes...
I have a 2012 Kindle Fire HD 7" serial starting with D025, running firmware 7.5.1. I successfully rooted the device with the bin4ry method thanks to all the helpful members here. I am interested in getting TWRP loaded as well as flashing maybe a Cyanogen ROM. I haven't looked into the ROM's too much as I'd like to get TWRP on first... baby steps haha... So I saw instructions for getting TWRP on devices with firmware up to 7.4.8 or somewhere around there but nothing higher. Next step is to downgrade the Kindle to an older firmware. I have ordered SkOrPn's Factory Cable, should be here in a day or 2.
So onto the questions:
1. In this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1951254 I see a list of system.img files to downgrade to. Does it matter which one I choose if I am going to be flashing Cyanogen ROM?
2. My next steps are to follow the instructions on that thread by plugging in the cable, run the adb command, run the SR Tool, follow instructions, and then on the bottom of the original post in that thread, it gives instructions for downgrading to 7.2.1. I take it those directions apply for any of the versions downgrading to?
This is where I am kind of lost as to what I am supposed to do from here. I am not sure what the SR tool accomplishes or intends to accomplish and the Factory Cable seems to be most often used as an "unbricking" device. I am not bricked, just looking to downgrade so as to get TWRP and Cyanogen. If there is an easier way for me to get TWRP and Cyanogen running without the downgrade or all this hullabaloo then I would be delightfully surprised.
So any help would be much appreciated

Hello, I definitely have a Kindle Fire HD 7 2012 and I do NOT yet have a factory cable, but it seems like the tool is working with my regular cable. When I use 1. Restore-Factory Rooted with SuperSU.apk my cmd screen tells me sending 'system' (907264 KB). . . OKAY (317.060s) writing 'system' . . . OKAY (72.750s) finished. total time: 389.821s
Even though I have erased cache and userdata, Factory Recovery, and Reboot normally I still am stuck on the FastBoot screen..
any suggestions ?

I got my factory cable today. I plugged it into my kindle and to my pc. I tried to run the tool to clear cache, factory rooted with SuperSU.apk, Factory Recovery, then reboot normally and my kindle is still stuck on FastBoot....
What am I doing wrong? What else can I try? Thanks in advance for any help, much appreciated...

KFHD 7'' is not a KFHD 7'' 2013 KFSOWI ... bootloop fixed
I got a bootlooped kindle from someone and thought it was a KFHD 7'' it took me forever and quite a few attempts to fix and fails to discover it is a KFHD 7'' 2013 KFSOWI which it totally different. notable markings are no camera and angled edges on the back. also if you get to the point of running fastboot you will know as "getvar product" will return "soho-pvt-prod-07" instead of "tate-xxx-xxxx-xx"
i wanted to thank Red_81 from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1951254&page=23 who pointed me to the Kindlesuite guys which led me to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2685090&page=4 and the fantastic Firerooter tool it is super easy to use and does everything for you even has great help in it about updating the adb drivers etc.
just make sure you really have a 2013 KFSOWI version. i previously had it bootlooping, then red screen (when i used the KFHD SRT many times), and finally after trying Firerooter a couple of times got the dang thing working again. I ended up installing the 11.4.x then 11.3.x and wiping user data. I about fell out of my chair when I finally got a screen. So dont give up. I also had to get a fastboot cable.

I have bricked my Kindle Fire HD 7" 2nd Gen. The device is stuck in what i would assume is a boot loop. I am wondering if someone can confirm if the KFHD SRT is compatible with my device and could possibly unbrick it. Any information or suggestions would be greatly appreciated, I could not tell what versions the kindle were supported from the original thread. Hi everybody
I've been running a rooted kindle fire hd for about a year with cyanogenmod and no problems. Tonight I downloaded the latest nightly update installed it with TWRP and re booted fine.
I kept getting google play services errors so decided to factory reset and clean everything up. Now I cannot get past the teamwin boot logo.
I see the orange kindlefire, blue kindlefire, then the teamwin logo flashes every 5 seconds.
Any ideas on how to recover this?
I posted this in standalone thread about a week ago, I've since bought a fastboot cable, which doesnt have any effect. I see Kindle fire on my PCs device manager so thinking there must be some sort of communication between the 2. Stuck with where to go now though. I know of at least 2 other people that have posted the same problem.
