[Q] Kindle Fire HD Brick + Factory Cable = Now what???

I bricked my Kindle Fire HD. I now have a factory cable that brings it up to a Fastboot screen. But all it does it stay on that screen.
My ultimate goal was to put Jelly Bean on it, but I guess I wasn't smart enough to do that.
How does this cable work? And is my only option restoring it to factory settings?
What do I do? I have a hard time figuring out what directions to use because it seems like every website says something different.

The factory cable doesn't do anything but put the device in fastboot mode. You have to use fastboot to restore partition images saved from the 2nd bootloader instructions. Once your device is restored, you can start all over again.

Can you point me towards the best set of directions for this Fastboot? I plug it in and all it does it stay in the Fastboot startup screen.

That's exactly what it's supposed to do. It's just a bootmode that waits to accept a certain set of (fastboot) commands. The first thing you need to ask yourself is, do you have the partition images to restore in the first place?

I don't think I have a backup. I really didn't know what I was doing. My laptop recognizes the device as Tate-PVT-08. I have the Minimal ADB and Fastboot software, but that doesn't recognize it yet.

There's a system image restore script in the android development section, but you said HD and not if it was 7 or 8.9 inch. Pretty sure its a 7 inch since it says Tate, think 8.9 is jem, so here the link if its a 7 inch version. Oh and ignore the stuff on step 2 about running an adb command, that's only for if Ur kindle is actually able to boot up all the way.

My Kindle Fire only show Kindle HD in 6 seconds and turn off after that. I don't know how to fix it

You need a fastboot cable. Odd that it shuts off, I don't think its a sign of a bad bootloader atleast, maybe a bad kernel flash or something. My post above applies to you as well, get a fastboot cable and try that utility. Think it should do the trick. Keep in mind that link is for the 7 inch version of that utility, you didn't specify which kindle it is so if its a 8.9 then post another msg because u might not need a fastboot cable and you will need a link to the 8.9" version of that utility.

[Q] fastboot will not work, no other thread helped yet

wanted to convert my HD7 into full android and got red screen in process. have read dozens of threads so far no help.
have fastboot cable, and I can get my kindle screen to say fastboot kindle fire - but I cannot seem to get the proper driver installed on my Win8 so that I can use fastboot. I've downloaded and installed numerous drivers. So far my kindle will not communicate with my computer, thus I cannot move forward in any way. I have installed ADB and SDK on my computer. I have scoured internet for ideas, helps. I am STUCK. Any help greatly appreciated!

Try the driver on my signature, but take note you are on windows 8, you can't install the driver by default because windows 8 won't allow unsigned drivers, you have to boot windows 8 up with driver signature enforcement disabled. Google disabling that and I think it may be the root of your problems.

Thanks! I think it worked. I still can only see my kindle in device manager, but I ran the SR Tool.bat option to check fastboot and it said it finished. of course my kindle won't reboot or anything because the bootloader is messed up. so now I am on a quest looking for steps to flash something with fastboot so that my kindle will actually reboot and then I can take steps toward a completely new ROM. obviously I'm learning as I go. I'll start reading more threads, feel free to point me in the right direction if you want. thanks again!

Do the part at step after where it says added 04/02, and please make sure you check the md5sum of the file before flashing, if it doesn't match up you will have a hard brick. Just Google "md5sum windows" if you don't know how to calculate a md5sum on windows. There's freeware available to do it.

I've read threads and answers to the point now that I'm going in circles. No one seems to address my problem. I am in fastboot. It appears I can flash things onto my kindle. I got the "kfhd7-u-boot-prod-7.2.3.bin" file on my kindle and got rid of the red screen. but I cannot get a recovery screen on my kindle. it just says kindle fire (fire is in orange). I press the power and volume up button and nothing. I go back to the beginning, read more threads. argh! it doesn't seem to be bricked. I just can't get a new bootloader to run so that I can flash a new rom. argh help!

You can't get into twrp anymore be cause we had to restore the stock boot loader, now u just need to reflash the system image and it should boot up, might need the boot image as well, but I think that kfsrt restores both of those, just put it in fastboot again and start the process.

It was a long haul but finally got out of the loop. thanks for your help! the final step that got me out of the ditch was to download and use the KFHD_SRT_v1.3.5- 7.3.0, then I ran #3 restore-factory recovery. I learned a lot through the process about fastboot and flashing files. For now I'm rooted with factory launcher and some other options too. I still think I want to wipe it and make it totally android.
Thoughts or recommendations? and thanks!!!!!!!!!!!

Well there are a fair amount of ROMs out, I use a tablet ui cm ROM that jester originally made, but when he went straight to cm 10.2 I wasn't ready so I made my own patch for cm 10.1 latest update with tablet ui, if your interested check the link in my signature out, though u need to put twrp back on again.

I apologize for yet another of these types of posts as I know there are a ton because I've been searching through them for a few days now. I can't seem to find a solution to my problem that works so hopefully someone can point me to the correct thread or help me directly. Here is my problem:
I have a Kindle Fire HD 7". I had successfully rooted the device, but then I went and screwed all that up by trying to mod it to get the android market (I, as a noob, changed a system value I shouldn't have - oops). After that, my kindle was/still is stuck on the System Recovery screen. The one where you can choose to reboot or erase all/reboot. Tried both, didn't work, got a factory cable from Skorpn (thank you!!).
I can now get my kindle to to show 'Fastboot Kindle Fire' on it's screen, but my computer doesn't recognize it as a Kindle. It shows it as 'Tate-PVT-08'. I found some threads on here about that and downloaded the drivers/installed them. The computer still does not recognize it as anything other than the tate thing. Grar. I have the android sdk stuff and the KFFirstAide. I'm using Windows 7 OS if it matters. But I do not know how to proceed without getting the dumb computer to recognize my device, so please help me out if you know how to do this. I'm about ready to throw the darn thing into the street and run it over multiple times with my jeep! It's been unusable for 6 months now! And yes, I'm a pathetic noob, and a girl to boot so keep that in mind... I apologize.

User stunts513 has a driver install package in his signature & profile that you can use to get your drivers working properly. If that doesn't work, you may want to try other, non-Windows based options.

Thanks for the pointer - I think it got me a tiny bit further. After finding the package and 'fixing' drivers - woo-hoo - my computer is saying that the device is working properly now, I can see it as 'Kindle Fire' in my device manager. However, it still is showing up as 'Tate-PVT-08' under Devices and Printers, and it cannot be found (isn't communicating) with ADB. I feel like I'm missing something so small to be able to move forward and reflash this thing - it's so incredibly frustrating to not be able to find it. :/
I also have tried editing the adb usb file to include the 0x1949, having gone through the adb kill/start-server commands several times, which hasn't changed anything. Is there anything I am missing to get windows and adb to communicate with it? Or is my only option at this point trying 'non-Windows based options'?

You don't use adb commands with fastboot, you use fastboot commands. I think at this point you said you have kffa, so try getting it to reflash the system image. I don't know the option number though.

Sooo, I feel even stupider now. I do have KFFA, so I tried to reflash the system image. It went through and gave me a success, although it did have an issue with erasing user data and cache. It said to disconnect from the computer/usb and power down, then restart. I did that and was super hopeful - it went through the boot screen a few more times than normal... but then BAM. Right back to the Kindle Fire System Recovery screen that it can't get past. Ugh. I must have really screwed something up on it.

Hmm. I just did some more digging on fastboot commands and found the fastboot mode guide on here. Going through that, I checked my hardware IDs, and one of the numbers are off, which according to the guide means that my Kindle isn't in fastboot mode (and this is while using the fastboot cable). If I use a regular USB cable, it doesn't show up at all anywhere. The more I research, the more confused I get. Everything seems geared towards fixing your device if it is stuck in a bootloop (mine goes through that and sticks at the recovery screen) or being able to get it into fastboot, which I cannot seem to do even with the cable. I guess I'm going to try to uninstall and reinstall the drivers for it again, but I'm starting to believe that whatever value I changed while in super user mode before my problems began are going to make it impossible to fix...

The hardware I'd should be 0x1949, and at this point I'm guessing maybe something is wrong with something in the data partition or you have a bad kernel. I don't know how to wipe the data partition from fastboot though. I don't know if kffa reflashes the boot partition, but you could always try that since a system reflash didn't work, or you could try reflashing the system image again, there's another tool in the android development section called kindle fire system restore tool, maybe it will work better for you. Ignore the part about that adb command, that's only for of your kindle can actually boot up.

Be very careful of what guides you use around here. Some of them (fastboot guide in particular) are made with the original Kindle Fires in mind, and can lead you to do irreversible damage.

I'll try that in the morning... I spent most of my day at this and need a break! Thank you so much for trying to help me out. I really appreciate any and all pointers.

Kindle fire stuck in Bootloop

I need your help for my KINDLE fire 7 " HD stuck at bootlogo. I just came back from work and switched on my KINDLE but it booted and got stuck at 'KINDLE FIRE' boot logo. I tried every possible troubleshooting method, like giving hard reset but nothing works. It switches ON and gets stuck at the LOGO. Going by the forums I know that I need a fastboot cable which I have already ordered and expecting the delivery.
Can you plz guide me how to proceed once I have the cable with me ?

Fastboot cord uses fastboot commands while in fastboot. This is the link to Kindle Fire FirstAid http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2096888 Once you follow the steps for setup and run it, you will choose number 3 to go back to 7.2.3 When asked if you want to reboot into fastboot, choose no because you are in fastboot.
You can use the regular USB to get into fastboot mode but not now that you are in a bootloop. After running KFFA to restore to 7.2.3 you will also use it to root and remove OTA updates then install gapps or if you are going to go custom romm with 2nd bootloader and TWRP recovery, skip gapps and move on to the latter. Do NOT use KFFA to install TWRP/2nd bootloader or any ROM. Use FireFlash.

Yes, I did that and then reboot my Kindle. But it's same and still stuck at boot logo.
Edit: Now it doesn't even turn ON, seems like the battery has drained. Tried wall charger for all night but still dont boots up. Plugged in the fastboot cable but nothing is happening. Please help :crying::crying:

So you're saying that you had a bootloop and you ran Kindle Fire FirstAide. Which numbers/options did you press? Plugging that fastboot cord in will power your Kindle Fire HD and send it into fastboot no matter the battery charge. Where did you get the fastboot cord from? A reliable source? I'm only asking because if the battery were low and the wire that connects pins 1 to 4 (think) that energize the Kindle into fastboot mode are somehow faulty, then this would stop the kindle from going into fastboot. However, if the fastboot cord is working, it would seem you have a hard brick. I will look around to see if there is a solution for this.

I firstly reboot the bootloader couple of times like people suggested me. When that didn't help I restored it and like i gave a detail in other post that it took fair amount of time like 45 mins of reading and writing the .img files. Even the message was prompted that 'Your kindle has been restored to 7.2.3, the only thing is that all this while the display of my Kindle didn't changed and was fixed on 'Fastboot Kindle fire' logo. I was disappointed with this device from start due to that crappy kindle OS which made it way too slow and things kept freezing and crashing all the time. Since I am in colombia and used a freight service for this cable to be delivered, i ended up paying 30 USD for the cable. I don't think I will be sending it for repair , it just don't worth it the expenses for the repair and the shipping cost from Colombia and vice versa. May be will keep experimenting and looking on XDA if at some point of time hard brick issue could be fixed.

adb doesn't work with fastboot, only fastboot commands work with fastboot.

Please Help! My KFHD IS Stuck in bootloop after I accidentally converted Kindle Launcher from system app to user app on Titanium. the kindle continues to run in the background but the image is stuck on the animated kindle fire logo. Any ideas/help would be really appreciated! Thanks

Reflash the system img. I don't know if you can make changes to an apk via adb.

Thanks for the reply! Unfortunately, I can't turn ADB debugging on because there is no way to get access to the menu system. Is there another manner of fastbooting and of reflashing image you can possibly recommend to bypass not having access to the launcher? Again thanks in advance!

I'm not sure what is possible via fb other than adb. Try googling flash factory image & see what you find. Sorry I can't be of more help.

Yes,there is. The following commands will flash the boot,recovery and system images while in fastboot.
Code:
fastboot -i 0x1949 flash boot boot.img
fastboot -i 0x1949 flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot -i 0x1949 flash system system.img

I rooted and installed cm12 or 13 on it and it was working well but i lost root so i flashed Supersu through twrp now my device is bootlooping on the amazon fire boot screen. I couldn't get into fastboot so bought a fastboot cable which has arrived today (2 weeks from china) now when i plug it in the device goes into fastboot mode but my windows 10 shows it in device manager as Other Devices Tate -pvt-08. I cant issue commands through ADB (adb devices just shows nothing connected) if i enter the getvar command i just get waiting for device. I've reinstalled the kindle device driver and still no joy.

hi did you ever figure out the issue? i'm also in the same boat, was running with cm13, tried to flash super su using twrp got the boot loop. will go till the white and orange logo and reboots

cant remember what i did tbh, ive just fired my kndle up first time in a while and the rom im using is Omni Rom 6.0 its old (2016) but works. i remember using adb to push backed up partition images and literally started from scratch. Not much help but it was quite some time ago

[Q] Help with deleted system.img & OS on Kindle Fire HD 7

I had some malware on on my kindle fire hd 7, a keylogger which someone installed to be exact. I went into the app settings trying to delete this file & i seem to have deleted the entire operating system from my kindle & now the whole system boot image is gone. I have no way to access adb usb debugging because the kindle no longer displays the notification bar at the top of the screen & because of this i'm unable to do the factory restore. I even bought a factory fastboot cable & it booted right into fast boot mode, but when i try to flash the system.img, it just tells me waiting on device. It also just show up as Tate-PVT-08 when in fastboot mode even though i have all the necessary drivers installed such as (kindle fire adb drivers,minimal adb and fastboot & android SDK ) Is there anyway you can assist me in getting my kindle back to working order ? Thank you. I attached some images so that you can see what i'm talking about. Even if i use the fast boot cable to boot into fast boot mode & then try to use the KFHD Restore Tool it just says waiting on device. Help !!

The drivers aren't installed if it has that mark next to it... Download the drivers in my signature, extract them, and tell that device with the exclamation to update drivers and search the location you extracted mine to.

stunts513 thanks man you saved me from having to spend $200 to get a new Kindle, I really thought it was bricked forever. I can't thank you enough, once again thank you, you really helped me out.
