Hi there,
i was trying to flash my samsung galaxy s and put darky's on it but for some reason i can't.
The recovery screen that pops op says recovery 3e (and every tutorial i found said 2e),
i try to "apply sdcard:update.zip
(i downloaded the update file from the darky roms thread)
and i get the error: failed to verify whole-file signature
signature verification failed, installation aborted.
i've got a samsung galaxy I9000XWJPA.
I've flashed the phone using z4root.
Then i've checked with terminal emulator that it's rooted.
I think that there's a problem with clockwork, or that i just didn't install that correctly, so i'm kinda stuck at the moment :s
could someone please help me?
First of all you should get the busybox file and flash it. Then copy the update.zip into the internal sd card and copy the darky rom too.
Before doing this i would restore it to factory settings. Dont root it with z4root, the busybox roots it and it allows you to open the update.zip
Try what i said and it should work.

You are on Android 2.2 which has the 3e recovery. 3e recovery doesn't allow using unsigned .zip files. You should first downgrade your recovery to 2e by flashing CF-root. After you downgrade your recovery, you'll be able to use any update.zip file.
You can find CF-root in this link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788108
Since you have XWJPA, you should download the JPA version from the second post. Instructions are in the first post.
Make sure you have 3-button recovery and download modes working before flashing.
oh that's via odin3 right?
i'll try that, thanks
Tell us if there's any problem.

hmm, i've followed all the steps, downloaded odin, and the CF-Root-XW_XEE_JPA-v1.2-Busybox-1.17.1.tar file, but the download screen only says "downloading, do not turn off target!!!
is there any particular setting or where to place the .tar file?

Ok.
First of all disconnect the galaxy from the pc. Close odin. Open Odin, put in PDA CF-Root-XW_XEE_JPA-v1.2-Busybox-1.17.1.tar
Then shut down the galaxy. Reboot it again to download mode. Connect it via usb and then click start. Make sure re-partition isn't checked.
That's it. When setting up odin you can't have the galaxy connected to he computer. If something fails on download mode, you must always restart the download mode or it'll be stuck.
Good luck
aha, found the problem:
there doesn't appear a comport in odin
new problem, how do i get the phone recognized?

It should recognize it when you connect it in download mode...
Mine recognizes it as COM4.
This may be simple, but restart your computer and phone and see if it works.

If not, re-install the drivers for your phone
hi mate i had exactly the same problems as you and it done my head in for about a day and a half but then someone gave me this advice and it worked a treat,
go to market
download sgs kernel
once done flash speedmod kernel using the app
re start phone
once done download darkys rom
reboot to download mode (should now have 2e)
flash zip
choose zip
find darkys
click yes instal darkys
job done
one thing i must point out in 2e is the back button on your phone is now the select button and the menu button on the bottom left is now your back button
hope this helps as it did for me
Restart your pc and make sure Kies is not working at all.
thanks man! reinstalling the drivers did the trick ten points for coldflid!!!

For the record, people do NOT have to flash Darkys or any other custom ROM to get 2e. Simply flashing a kernel that has Clockwork Recovery included will do the trick. Your reco to flash SpeedMod would have solved the problem without having to go further.
Very true but he wanted darkys which was the only reason I mentioned but good to point out for others reading the post

You're 100% correct - my mistake for missing it on the first go-around.
not a problem
Hello ,
I have a similar problem with my Galaxy S I9000 .
I've updated it via KIES to the latest Froyo ( 2.2 as it shows my phone ) .
Next , I tried to install the voodoo lagfix .
I downloaded the .zip file and renamed it to "update.zip" .
Then I copied it to my phone's sd card ( I connect to PC via usb and copied in the 'Phone' folder ) .
Next , I used the 3 buttons ( Volume UP + middle button + turn off button ) and it got into Recovery mode .
I selected the 'update.zip' file and accesed it , but it says :
"E: signature verification failed, installation aborted."
I have to downgrade to 2E first ?
Hello XDA Community,
I am an 2 year XDA veteran, so i am properly familiar with all things related to XDA.
I currently own a Xperia X10 Mini Pro and a Xperia Mini Pro....
I tinker a lot with these 2 phones. SE phones mainly need fastboot.....
I just brought a Samsung Galaxy Note(SGN) N7000 (India) a few days back and am really excited to run CM9 on it.....
But i have alot of unanswered questions.....
So i just need the community's help...
1. Does the SGN have a stock recovery....????
My cousin has a Galaxy Tab 8.9 and it had a stock recovery. I just flashed a zip to root it and another zip for CWM......
2. What exactly is ODIN....?????
The Tab 8.9 had ODIN with a Recovery but our SGN does not seem to have one.......
3. Is it safe to upgrade to official Samsung ICS......????
There is alot of talk going on in the forum about HARD BRICKING our SGN if we upgrade........
4. What do i exactly have to do to get CWM......????
The guides in Development Section by dr.ketan have me totally confused, though i have rooted my SGN using DoomLord's Kit............
I am new to Samsung devices ant dont know the way they work.....
So any help will be extremely appreciated.......
Thanks.
1 there is a stock rom you can flash it with odin
2 odin allow you to flash your sgn
3 no it is safe
4 you can download it and flash it with odin
If you want a link for your odin or for a rom just post.

I used Vol down + home + power while starting up, and the phone booted into ODIN but there is no recovery.....
The screen only shows " Start Downloading"...
What is this........???/
Whereas the ODIN in Tab 8.9 gave options to flash .zips and much more......
Help please......
Thats download mode, you use with odin from your PC.... use Vol up + home + power for recovery
Download mode is mostly used to flash stock roms (afaik) and they can be found http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/?page=3&t=1&o=1&m=GT-N7000&r=-1#modelsa

So I tried updating this device to GB - model is P1000N (too bad I only realized this on my edit of this post, I I always thought what I have is without the N), I followed this YT guide http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RtWdNqwAETs, all went well until when I tried to reboot my device.
Procedure (ODIN !):
- Press the thanks button and/or donate - DONE
- Download and extract the firmware zip - DONE
- Download and extract the attached gt-p1000_mr_PIT.zip - DONE
- Download and extract the attached dbdata.zip - DONE
- Flash the firmware tar as PDA, repartition enabled, use the attached PIT - DONE
- After flash immediately boot into download mode again - STUCK HERE, DEVICE BOOT W/ SOUND, LIGHTS ON, BLANK SCREEN
- Flash dbdata.tar as PDA (NO repartition)
- After flash immediately boot into recovery mode
- Wipe cache
- Wipe data / factory reset

What do I do?
Use overcome method instead
Go to overcome site
http://www.teamovercome.net
Read the guide,
Missing pictures can be seen here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=20974872
Follow the picture step by step.
Basically to restock:
Download GB-stock-safe-v5.zip, unzip it and and flash with ODIN according to the guide.
Stop there and you will have Gingerbread JQ1
You can continue with the rest, and you will get Overcome 4.1 and you won't regret.
From there you can then try AOKP or CM9, all requires you to have Overcome Kernel with its CWM recovery to flash.
Problem is Vol Down + Power won't respond, and so is Vol Up + Power. :/
Sent from my HTC Desire S
make sure it is fully charged.
Power down.
Launch Odin.
Cable connected.
Vol-down + power.
If odin suddenly see your device, flash away.
Hope it will. Search here but seems almost all threads got no fix. :/
Damn why didn't I see that method above before.
Sent from my HTC Desire S
Overcome method is quoted hundreds of time in this forum. Most reliable method to "restock" and install CWM recovery for P1000 device
I'm downloading the GB-Stock-Safe-v5.zip now. It sucks to have slow internet.
By the way, do I have to flash that Modem file too? I can see that it's a zip file but on the screenshot the only thing he flash is the "modem.bin", extracting the modem zip has some META-INF and updates folder.
Lastly, regarding "gt-p1000_mr.pit" - is this common file? I have downloaded this already earlier in the separate tutorial.
Okay, so I downloaded the zip file.. followed the instruction here http://dl.dropbox.com/u/34690776/The Installation Guide The Overcome Experience.png and it's a success based on my attached screenshot but after completing step 5 I am stuck to here coz step 6 says that tab should reboot by itself but mine doesn't. It looks like it reboot but blank screen and the lights are on. It stays that way. No reboot. No image like that on step 6. :/
Even after disconnecting the device and turning it on it stays on blank screen w/ the lights on.
Someone can help me, please?
No idea who no reboot.
But try again the same thing.
Power down.
Vol down + power
flash again.
I'm no expert but does tabs also involve bootloader stuff? Like in HTC devices we have to unlock bootloader before we can root and change rom and stuff?
Sent from my HTC Desire S

Hi all,
I have been browsing this site since last November, when i bought my Note.
I has a very basic understanding of phone software.
I am trying to upgrade to 4.0.4 but so far without success. OTA nor Kies works for me. OTA just says failed, try Kies. Kies says failed and goes into emergency recovery and fails that too. The phone still works fine.
I would like some simple instructions on how to get 4.0.4 on a phone which has the eMMC bug on it. I dont want to root, factory wipe or anything; just to go from 4.0.3 to 4.0.4.
I have read the guides but they are way too complicated for me. Normally i get my head round things but i cant on this one.
Failing this, can i just take my phone to any Vodafone shop and get them to do it?
Thanks in advance for any help.
Get odin and download from sammobile any gingerbread rom also any 4.0.4 rom...
While downloading backup your photos/ document /music/videos etc in your pc
Make sure kies is not running and unzip the Gingerbread rom you just downloaded...
Open odin press PDA and put there the file you just unzipped..
Do not touch the default check boxes options
PRE ODIN STEP(In your phone wich should not be connected to the pc (must have over 50% battery) press volume down+home+power until it reboots to odin mode (accept the warning with volume up))
ODIN STEP(Now connect it to the pc and you should see a yellow rectangle in Odin indicating that the phone its okay to go... Press start and wait until it finishes..) when the process finish close odin
FINAL STEP NOT FOR 4.0.4(Once finished unplug the phone from the pc and press volume up+home +power to get to recovery and wipe data then reboot..)
Unzip the 4.0.4 rom go to odin press PDA and select the file you just unzipped and repeat PRE ODIN STEP AND ODIN STEP... AND FOR TE LOVE OF GOD... DO NOT DO THE FINAL STEP ONCE YOU FINISH THE ODIN STEP WHEN FLASHING THE 4.0.4 ROM (if you perform the final step when fishined the Odin step you could brick your phone)
That's it and cheers
Do not go to Vodafone stores if you don't want to end up with a paperweight lol

like ms edek says, is easiest. But backup efs before that, cause I see to many losing service or updatability because of efs corruption. See dr ketans toolbox thread in general section.
preconditions for update ota/kies
No root(ota it doesnt matter)
All codes intact (imei, pcode)
All components installed of same rom and version of rom that was distributed through Kies or ota.
Rom csc must match the installed rom. Most updates arent available because for phone csc there is no update. This is the csc obtainable throught dialing *#06# for imei then dial *#272*yourimeihere#. Note changing csc triggers factory reset, so do from save kernel should you like to change.

thanks will try and revert back.....
Step 1: Download appropriate stock ROM on your PC/Laptop and Unzip it.
Step 2: Download PC Odin3-v3.04
Step 3: Stop all firewall/antivirus programs runninig in your PC, and then run ODIN.
Step4: Start your gNote in DOWNLOADER mode (by pressing Vol. Down+Home+Powerkey)
Step 5: Connect your gNote (in downloader mode) to your PC/Laptop
Step 6: Select appropriate (PDA) file in the unzipped stock ROM and click START in Odin
After few minutes.... when your gNote restarts, you are done. Enjoy...
