I've tried everything, I just can't get odin to recognize my phone. I use a Samsung Galaxy S GT-I9000 and the odin version is Odin3 v3.07, although I have tried using an older version of odin.
My phone gets detected normally (when not in download mode), and even in download mode the computer does make the sound indicating that it is connected.
This time, I opened odin without putting my phone in download mode and it showed a blue box, indicating that it detected my device, however I think being in download mode is a necessity for rooting. Help me out!
Oh and if its important, I use windows 8, I don't have samsung kies installed, I have the stock USB cable and I have tried it out without another cable.
AH! The shame! My first post and there is a typo in the title! T-T
Hey,
Have you tried manually installing the drivers using this?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2038555
The Samsung USB drivers (which lets the computer properly recognise the phone) apparently don't play too nicely with Windows 8.
Try install that and see if Odin recognises your phone

just flash this in stock recovery you only need odin for custom recovery

Hi,
I'm about to Flash to 2.3.3 firmware.. but the problem is that after i put my SGS into download mode the Odin didn't recognize my SGS (ID:COM) didn't display YELLOW.., but while i'm on normal mode every time i connect to my laptop Odin always recognize it..
Please help...
Thanks
Start Odin after connecting the phone and the laptop has already 'seen' the phone.

It's recognized my phone, but once i turn it too download mode by " Volume down+Home+Power) and connect to laptop again.. it's never recognized...
Try running Kies in the background then connect and see what Odin says .
jje
Disconnect SGS USB cable... Close Odin. And update your SGS drivers!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=961956
-> Restart PC.
-> Open Odin, put in your files
-> Connect USB cable to PC, THEN to the SGS! (First PC, then Phone)
-> Hopefully you should see Yellow COM!
PS: While in Download Mode, and when connected to PC... Windows may download/update some more drivers. Let it happen! Do not disconnect!
There are two version (*86) and (*64) which one should i choose?
Never had this problem but can suggest few things
1. uninstall kies and reinstall SGS drivers only (Google them, they are available on net)
If doesn't work
2. do a factory reset and try with Odin
3. if not, restore the phone, if you have backup on Clockwork mode recovery.
As i said, never experience this issue, so just suggesting
x86 is for 32-bit Windows, and x64 is for 64-bit Windows!
To check what you own, Right-click on "My Computer" -> Properties -> And see what's written, 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64)
Also, try uninstalling Kies, and install only the drivers posted on that link!
While running Odin, it is recommended that Kies should not be running, even as a service!
Okay, but my SGS is not yet rooted, so is there any chance the Odin didn't recognize my phone due to unrooted device??
i've got the same problem, cant upgrade to gingerbread because of it...tried everything suggested in this thread..even restored a backup i made using clockwork recovery...spent 3 weeks googling and restoring my phone reinstalling drivers e.t.c...ive given up and im stuck on froyo 2.2.1 XXJPY.
Rooted mobile or not rooted, no difference, odin shd recognize, u may try another version of odin or use update.zip or root it to install a custom rom, guessing, u might be missing some bootloaders

See under galaxy s general forum ...howto(ref)(faq)...... Rooting is explained there, use update.zip procedure

Hope that works

I am sorry to jump in but I am currently running the latest nightly and Ineed to flash bootloaders and start with Froyo again. But my computer is not detecting my phone. I have installed the Android SDK and installed the drivers for Nexus S but of no avail. i am stuck and would appreciate your help.
The funny thing is that I can use the phone as USB device but freaking ODIN is not detecting it. My windows does not has any unrecognised device. I have installed the Nexus S drivers as well. Is it a problem with ODIN or my phone or windows itself? I am running Windows 7 Enterprise 64 Bit edition.
I have tried;
Uninstalled Samsung Drivers / Restarted / Reinstalled
Swapped 2 different cords
Tried every available port on my PC
Restarted, pulled PC power cable, let it rest for a few seconds and plugged it back in
Uninstalled every USB Root Hub device and restarted so Windows could reinstall all of it
Tried Heimdall as well
I need my ODIN flashing back
Thanks in advance!
Look that Kies isn´t running in the Background.
It is not - I can confirm.

But Kies does not recognize the phone So it does not even try to install the drivers.
I am stuck. Without ODIN recognizing my phone, i can not flash anything on it or revert to stock. Would be great to know if there is anything I can do from Recovery Mode. The phone goes to Download mode as well but what's the use.
well this is a long shot but you could try and manually install it by going into where you installed kies in my case its C:\Program Files\Samsung\USB Drivers\24_flashusbdriver choose the X64 folder seeing as you are on a 64bit system and right click FlashUSB_x64.inf and install

an obvious question, but since no one has asked it yet, are you in the download mode ? You have to be in download mode for Odin to detect.

That is not true. My Samsung Galaxy S is recognised by Odin even when on in normal mode.

Yeah, I ended up doing the exact same thing. Something must have gone weird, because the phone would still charge, but wouldn't be recognized by anything.
It may well be damage to usb on phone, remove the inner cover check for cracks in soldering, and check pounds aren't out of shape
If they are gently straighten with pin

Just Remove the battery and wait for 10 seconds......
insert battery and start in download mode...
tadaaaa.....it's done....
Did you install the drivers for Hemidall? After I did this my phone was not recognize by Odin... but I'm guessing If I roll back or update the drivers some how in Device Manager then Odin would be happy again.
Problem: Attemping to flash to eclair(stock) using Odin version/s 1.81-1.82. Have not had any luck. The phone is rooted. But running bone stock os/rom. I suspect while using an app to kill the boot/shutdown sounds may have some how corrupted this cappy enough to block it from flashing back to stock.
Question: Are there any specific sites or suggestions that would walk me through ways to flash my Captivate back to Eclair?
Thanks in advance for any and all suggestions!

Are you connecting the phone to a usb hob thats on the Mother board(rear one if on desktop), running ODIN as adming (if on vista or 7). You putting your phone in download mode and connecting after odin is open? Lastly you have drivers for your phone?
Edit: Mobiletechvideos usually has very good video guides.
U need to right click the Odin and run as administrator 1st, then connect ur phone in download mode to the computer. Be sure to connect the usb end of the cable to a usb port in the back of the computer or first port on laptop. Be sure that before u begin you have the correct drivers installed and then you may want to reboot your computer... then begin the Odining process.
Hope that helps.
edit: prbassplayer, I guess great minds do think alike... But you type faster.
Tried for awhile that night without success. The next morning after restarting my windows xp system it worked. All required software was installed. The pc had been restarted numerous times? Greatful for the suggestions. Still confused as to what the issue was however. Very perplexing indeed.

I recently decided to flash a custom ROM on my Galaxy Mini. So i downloaded Kies, Odin 4.38, tass.ops and Clockworkmod, installed Kies, closed it, launched Odin, set everything, booted the device in download mode and when i connected it to my Laptop Odin simply didn't detect it. No yellow box, no alert, absolutely nothing.
The device already had Android 2.3.6 preinstalled, i didn't even touch the OS.
I already looked everywhere, but found no solution by myself.
Help would really be appreciated
Try uninstalling the Samsung usb driver from control panel then reinstalling it.
Edit: or use another cable and port.

When u installed kies, did u sync with ur mobile? Cause when u sync, it installs all the neccessary drivers. Or you could try downloading the drivers manually. Be sure to kill KIES when using odin cause they are sworn enemies
You didn't mention whether you installed mobile drivers or not!!! Try installing drivers once again. Then things will go on correctly.

If Still can't, Something wrong with your computer, like virus Ramnit in odin.exe
you can Run odin but odin can't do anything to detect even you installed your usb driver.
Just open can't read port and scan usb port.
To solved the problem try another PC.
But don't copy odin or usb.exe
to PC you want use.
Just One you can copy firmwares file zip or tar.md5

The Tab don't show Charging status, but If I turn it Off and leave it connect it,
all night long It charge and I know it because when you turn it On next day
it shows full battery status.
We want this device to install CWM and Cyanogen Mod ROM.
I made it before on my own Tab using this
GREAT FORUM HELP.
Any help to achieve that ?
From microSD, Bluetooth, WiFi or any other method ?
Thanks in Advance.
To do all that you need Odin to recognise it.
Can you try in another computer?
There is no need to install Kies for that.
You can download this driver (for 32 bit windows)
http://code.google.com/p/insanity/downloads/detail?name=SAMSUNG_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones_x86.exe
For all its worth, try installing this driver in your current computer and see if Odin detects it in download mode.
You need to be in download mode.
