I have a Galaxy S (I9000B) and a Tab (P1000L), S has CM10 and Tab CM10.1. When I was upgrading my Tab from CM10 to CM10.1, I've forgot to wipe data/factory reset, and when it was done, I've noticed that my background was the same, and all the apps where there. Everything is working fine.
And now the question, upgrading my phone from CM10 to CM10.1 (the most recent version available) do I really need to wipe anything?
It is recommended to do all 3 wipes and to be sure to get a clean and propper ROM, format system too. But you can try it without, if something is not running propperly, the worst case will be that you have to flash it again and then with all wipes. Or if you stuck on bootloop with lost recovery, then you have to fireup odin...
BTW gapps were also changed, so for CM10.1 its also recommended to flash the latest gapps.

Well, I tried to flash CM10.1, but showed up a error, don't know why. I figured it out that it was my kernel, it was made for 4.1 and not 4.2. So I just downloaded a 4.2 kernel, flashed and right next I've flashed the CM10.1. I can't tell that it is working, I'm locked in the lockscreen (on CM10 it was a 5x5 pattern and now is a 3x3). But I can see my wallpaper is the same
Did you made a nandroid backup before flashing the new JB?
Then i would suggest to restore to latest backuped ICS version and disable your lockscreen pattern. Then reflash the new rom again.
Hope that this will work for you.

As far as I can tell it was, on CM10. Maybe CM10.1 disabled it.
I've tried to rollback to CM10, but I got stuck on the bootanimation. I think I'll have to wipe everything...
perhaps you can try it with flashing an ics kernel via odin in advance.
Semaphore has some tar versions for odin...but i dont have the link for the moment...if you want i can search

Where is the problem?
Thanks.
Did you try looking at the help page on the thread in the development section? It's right before the post is finished, there will be a link that will lead you there.
Hope that helps, if not I can try to just copy and paste the instructions hahaha

Ensure you have backed up your EFS directory; if you don't know how ask.
To be honest, there appears to be some inconsistency in the reliability of the 4.1 RC release (across handsets); I have had persistent WIFI issues and then when the wifi fix was released I found the phone to just be a little laggy.
My advice if RC 3.1 works well for you is to keep it on there for now and wait for the next release they make.
However, if you still wish to flash it, there is no 100% working way - just keep factory reset, dalvik wipe, cache wipe, reset until it starts working! That's what I did as the original instructions did not work for me.

Hello, have you tried to download the rom again? Maybe it's a bad download..
That's odd, for me i got stats 7 but was because i was flashing the I9000B version and my phone was with the CWM for I9000. Try using odin and flash a sotck rom, after that install the CWM and then the RC4.1.
If anyone want to know the procedure that i do to install the RC4.1 is this:
Starting for CM7 --> flash the ARO 2.3.3 rom to re-write the bootloader (check this option in odin) --> flash the ZTO 2.2 rom to re-partition in original size partitions --> flash the 2.2.1 ARO because it's a nice rom and don't have all the trash that is present in ZTO version --> through kies flahs the ARO 2.3.3 original.
After that the procedure to install the RC4.1 is the standard: flash CWM then install the ROM.
I had problems going from 3.1 to 4.1. Same issue as OP.
Process I followed:
-Flashed CWM through heimdall
-Flashed devil kernel
-Flashed CM7 (had to do this twice in a row)
-Flashed ICSSGS 3.1
-Flashed 4.1 but before I rebooted my phone, I flashed Devil one last time.
Since then, phone has been rocking along just fine!

Yes... three times.
I'm having the same problem here.
I tried the first point on the Common Issues page but I'm still not able to go into CWM!
I flashed the Speemod Kernel using heimdll but I can't go back to CM7. I'm getting a Stat 7 error.
Also tried the Devils kernel (Devil_1.0_CFS) with no help ....
Any ideas?
Just wondering...

why on earth did you flash the CM7 as a part of the process? I always have just downloaded an appropriate kernel (devil, stockplus etc..) + ICS ROM (latest was RC4.1), once I'd rooted my stock 2.3.6 ROM with CF-Root (takes only 5 minutes). ICSSGS' ROMs can be applied straight on top of any previous ROM, the only requirement is that you have root privileges + CWM installed. Flashing CM7 is often frustrating, at least for me. I personally see no point in flashing it before the ICS ROM. If you know better, pleasy enlighten me

I want to Flash Team ICSSGS [Android 4.0.3] (Link to ROM Thread) but I am not for sure what Bootloaders or Kernel I need to use.
I currently have:
Firmware Version: 2.2
Baseband Version: I897UCKB1
Kernel Version: 2.6.32.9
Build Number: FROYO.UCKB1
In general, the Gingerbread bootloaders are preferred with any of the ICS ROMs, because they are more ubiquitous and can be used with virtually any version 2.1 thru 4.0. Kernel-wise, the ICS ROMs come with a kernel, and your only other option is Glitch v14 beta right now...but mostly, you shouldn't need to worry about flashing anything beyond what's in the ROM itself right now.

So that ROM I listed in my OP comes with its own Kernel?
And is there a particular Bootloader I should use?
If there is, may you please link me to it?
Hey im currently running the ROM you are asking about. To answer your questions you have to be on the gingerbread bootloaders. You can flash those using odin, or since there is an official update out, use Kies mini to update your phone to gingerbread and that will flash the bootloaders for you.
About the kernel, the ROM you posted includes a kernel in the .zip and when you install the .zip it will flash the kernel for you. Its a fine kernel and works great so dont worry about changing it unless you have problems.
Here is the link on how to flash the bootloaders using Odin. Its not a hard process and pretty safe so let us know how you come out on the other side!

so i have gingerbread 2.3.5, installed CornKernel_UCKK4_v603 and custom rom SimplyStock KK4 V1.0 , so if i wanted to switch Team ICSSGS [Android 4.0.3] should i do following?
1. wipe data /factory reset
2.wipe system
3.flash from recovery mode Android 4.0.3 zip?
I already have a backup made with Efs Pro as a tar file
anything else i need to do?
thank you so much in advance

Yes, Froyo will still boot. If this were a layer cake it would go something like bootloader, kernel, rom. So basically, your bootloader has nothing to do with your kernel or your rom but it is at the bottom layer of the boot process. It does effect which ROMs you can use though as gingerbread and ICS roms require GB bootloaders. So flash the bootloaders, you will still be on Froyo. Update to GB. Root GB. Place the ROM on your internal SD and then flash it. If you run into any problems check the common problems page found on the first page of the SGSICS ROM.

First, if you want to keep any of your apps or contacts backup those as well using Titanium Backup. Make sure to backup to the External SD card or make a copy of the backup somewhere other than the phones internal SD.
Second, you dont have to wipe data/factory reset before you flash. This is only if you have the problem of a bootloop when you try to install. I had this problem and when I did the wipe data afterward it fixed it immediately. So follow this:
1: Boot into CWM
2: install rom
IF you have an issue with a boot loop at this point
1: Get back into CWM using the button combination
2: Wipe data/Factory Rest and Wipe Cach

ok, in the end managed to boot the phone with working wifi but still would like to know how to flash back to SimplyStock KK4 V1.0, just in case ;-) if that won't be problem for you. thank you !!!
IMHO the best way to go from gingerbread to ics 4.0 is to
- in the development section download stock kk4 without bootloaders, unless you dont have them http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1300843
- then download a kernel of your choice probably cornkernal and put it on your internal sd card
- download ICS latest build and gapps and put them on your internal sd
- oneclick odin the stock kk4, let it boot up completely
- power off and install kernal via odin without aut reset
- boot into recovery, factory/data reset, clean cache, clear dalvik, install latest ics, then install gapps right after,
- reboot system and youre done.
IF you want to go back to your other rom the simplest way is to just kk4 fresh install, install kernal via odin, then isntall your rom.
I always keep all my contacts synced with gmail, and titanium backup any game data or app data i need, and reinstall apps through the market.
hope this helps

Well happened with me once when I had put AOKP ROM in my Galaxy Note.
Here is what I did:
Go to Recovery.
Wipe Cache.
Try reboot
No results?
Recovery again.
WIpe Dalvik Cache Also
Try reboot.
Still no results?
Try to wipe data/fac reset and re flash some other ROM as of now (which you are confident about that it will work)
Now go ahead and let the old ROM boot. (Surely it will, as you would have used prior)
Now, go connect USB and check MD5 of the file you had kept on SD Card (I mean the CM10 file)
I found that my MD5 didnt match.
If you think it didnt match download again.
If you know it matches then go for reflash.
But this time before flashing the new ROM just use some cleaning script such as Ultimate KErnel Cleaning Script. In Galaxy Note I used Jbroid Kernel Script. I aint sure now if you can use Jbroid in Ace.
Goof luck!
Press Thanks

Hi,
I tried installing the Chimera kernel on my sister's Exhibit and after it installed and rebooted, the phone was stuck in the CM10 boot animation. The phone has CM10 installed and it does get past the Samsung logo.
The thread for Chimera tells us to make a Nandroid but I didn't bother as when I installed Chimera on my Exhibit, all was well. So, there is no Nandroid to restore to on this phone.
Is flashing a new ROM the only option?
I'm having this same problem after I flashed everything. my rom, cache, data, delvik+cache, etc...

Wipe dalvik cache, cache and then flash CM10 and gapps. Hopefully, everything will still be there.
Ok, I'll try that. I just have one more question, does the CM10 have to be the same as the one currently installed? It's an older version and I don't have the same ZIP, so I'll have to download a newer version.

If i skip this then Setup Wizard Force Closes and then am not able to access anything on the phone. Everything seems to be force closing randomly?

You have CM10.2 GAPPS (4.3) on 4.1.2 system. That is the problem. You should wipe system and preload partition before you did restore. Try it now again. Do wipes and restore backup again. Gapps are not in data paritition.
Im having a similar issue
Hi! the same is happening to me, but im sure i flashed the right gapps from cwm. also, i tryed to restore a previous back up, the restore seems succesfull but when i boot i still see the setup wizard, even when i flash the right gapps after restore. The last thing i was doing with my working phone was trying (but i uninstalled it after a while) swapper2. but i letft my sd card only with fat32 as in the begining.

I know I had similiar problems when I was going from CM to stock. I can't remember what exacly I did to solve it. I will look on some posts I wrote before. You have problems with gapps, that ia why it force close.
P.S. Solution for someone was to flash some custom ROM. Try with that.

Ok mate let me know if you find the solution Thanks
At least you have stock backup in cwm. I created mine in twrp, therefore I cannot go back at all now with cwm restore...

Put CoCore with TWRP on SD and install it from CWM.
I had same problem. I never use GAPPS, so I have not flashed the zip. Still I encountered this strange problem.
I found two possible methods which may help.
To restore 'stock JB backup' you must flash CM 10.1(4.2.2) or CM 10(4.1) and make sure you wipe data, cache and dalvik-c before and after flashing.
The from CM 10.1/10 recovery restore the stock JB backup.
If that did not work, the use ODIN to flash the stock JB firmware and then flash custom recovery. With this recovery you can restore either data or all of the partitions. GOOD LUCK

can i restore my cwm backups from TWRP?
---------- Post added at 08:19 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:12 PM ----------
well... after installing cocore with TWRP and then flashing gapps 4.1.2 from there, the problem persist. As i said before, after flashing stock rom from odin, then gapps from any recovery, the problem persist. wt* am i doing wrong!?
let me remember you, I am not who started this thread, but i have a similar issue.
Thanks
Edit: in order to bring you clues in case you may help me. I noticed that the keyboard doesnt show up if i try to write the password of the wi-fi network in setup wizard, also gapps still crashing as soon the phone boots and setup wizard after i try to skip it.
later edit: HEY HEY HEY! i noticed in "show log" option in cwm that after restoring the backup there are two issues:
I: Can't format unknow volume: /external_sd
I: Can't partition unsafe device: /dev/block/mmcblk0p8
hmmm... i didn't expect that.
keep updating: both cyanogen 10.0 and 10.2 don't even boot. they stay stucked in the pretty loading screen.
didn't find anything helpfull to do from recovery or odin
any clue?
just for the record (if anyone came here looking for an answer) i did a downgrade to 2.3.6 with this guide: (it is in spanish, but provides all the files and im sure you can find one in your language)
grupoandroid . com/topic/67294-gbguia-downgrade-de-jb-a-gb/ (delete spaces)
now i will upgrade to JB again, i hope that without problems.
edit: FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!
after 2.3.6 working without issues, flashed 4.1.2 from sammobile with odin (the same .md5 that i had for months!) and the problem came again. gapps error, and couldnt finish the setup wizard....

Ok, try to install some ROM now. I remember that someone solved with that. But manual mount system and preload partitions just in case.
I had similar problems after coming back from CM10 before.
If that do not help, (have CWM or TWRP) put some ROM zip on SD - wipe ALL (cache, dalvik cache, system, preload, factory reset) and install ROM again.

I couldn't install CM10 or 10.2 from CWM after wiping cache, dalvik, system, preload, and factory. I got
"getprop(ro.build.product) = i9070, getprop(ro.product.device) = GT-I9070
error or something like that and i get stucked.
I'll downgrade again and keep it for one day until the night, i can't be without my phone one more day.

Wait, do you have I9070P? That error is shown if you try to install CM on I9070P.
