Hey all, I did not see a topic like this posted so forgive me if there already is one.
I am looking to possibly buy my first tablet, and probably the HD+. I currently own a Samsung Galaxy Note (original, european version) which has a 1280x800 5.3" screen. Thus why I haven't bought a tablet. The nexus 7 was tempting but the low resolution relative to my phone and the lack of SD slot dissuaded me. Plus, while 7" is larger than my 5.3" phone, it wasn't enough.
Now enter the HD+ with its byond HD resolution, 9" of real estate and i'm interested. I played with one at my local B&M store and was impressed. I wanted to check xda first to see what the development community is like before I buy. So far the only negatives are:
* Most of the videos on youtube call it "laggy" or "slow" or "unresponsive" Is this fixed at all?
* Complete lack of USB support. Proprietary charger, etc
* Pretty heavy compared to 7" tablets
I'm posting this essentially to request someone convince me I need this tablet and that the devs are behind it with rooting, etc. How stable is CM10 now on it, for example?
Wow this forum is completely dead. Guess i have my answer.

nook hd+
I go my hands on a 16gig nook hd+ cheap i love it i chose it because the 7 inch tablets seem fine for reading kind of like a paperback but i also enjoy reading comics and way to small on a 7inch. The 10.1 inch tablets are a joke for reading books and are way to long for reading comics like holding a stone tablet in your hands. The nook hd+ and fire hd 8.9 seemed like that sweet spot i was looking for. I chose the nook hd+ over the fire 8.9 for many reasons first the deal i got on it $220 plus a teal book case, the screen is fantastic, micro sd card slot i dont use any streaming and i dont pay for downloads i have a giant harddrive full of mp4 videos epub books and cbz comic files i load myself, and right out of the box the nook hd+ reads .cbz comic files and pretty good at it so i didnt need to pay for anything, root or sideload any apps.
Now i read all the reviews on the nook hd they all reported lag unfinished operating system and nook store didnt have the same amount of multimedia support as the others. Im running the latest software on my nook hd+ and i have zero issues zero. And i have way to many of my own files to load to care if the nook store dosent have a certain movie ill download the latest torrent it plays my bluray 720p mp4 rips like a champ ill download latest books and use clibre to convert and load my epubs and ill download comic files and use comic rack to convert to .cbz
It comes down to you if you want to pay for downloads go with another tablet if you want to load your own stuff you wont get more bang for your buck then nook hd+
Plus if your gonna root that sd card slot is a must have
Oh ya i dont care about a front or back camera on a 9inch tablet thats why i have a phone and laptop
My advice: buy!
Then put CM10 as to verygreen on it and never look back.
I have the direct comparison to a nexus 7 and it is no contest. The screen of the HD+ is absolutely beautiful, the speed of the OS is absolutely okay - much better that the N7 running 4.2 actually.
With a 32 or 64 GB Sd-card you have tons of space.
I would say, atm the HD+ is the best value tablet available (thanks to the developments going on here).

Definitely buy.
I too was looking at a new tablet for 2013, similar to you. I have Kindle Fire 1st generation so I know what 7 inch tablet can do for me. Movies and reading books was fine but surfing and comics - not that good. I ordered the 64gb version and looking forward to it
The only downside I was considering is lack of front facing camera for Skype but I solved that problem with a new phone. Another downside is the speakers location on only one side but I can live with that.

Nexus 10 is a fine device but for me it doesn't bring anything extra to a tablet that I need. Of course different people will have different needs.

I hear ya. The only major problem with the HD+ is the proprietary charger and lack of Bluetooth. If you're cool with that its all good.

Bluetooth works, no lack at all! I stream music and use MAPS with my phone's GPS using BT.
I've had mine for about a week now. Some very good help on here for installing google play store (without even rooting) and booting cm10 from the sd card. That's why I got it. The main drawbacks in my mind was no access to play store, and proprietary version of android. But those issues have been taken care of by folks on this forum, and the only thing left as negatives were the proprietary charging/usb port and no camera... I think I'll be able to live with those.
I still haven't gotten adb working but adbwireless seems to do the trick so that's not an issue now either. I'm on the Buy It side as well.

Aside from rooted stock being allergic to to any changes to system files I quite like the Nook HD. It is a good size for reading at the table but so was my old Galaxy Tab 7+. I could have gone for the N7 but I have a bitter hatred against Google for deciding on us that we don't need that micro sd port. Sounds abit like a certain other company no?
Buy if you are ok with that limitation (only if you are on stock though)
Frankly I liked the Nook Color the most

I've been enjoying my NC since February. I use it mainly for e-books, e-mail, web surfing, casual gaming and occasional Netflix streaming. I love tinkering with it using different ROMs, etc.
About 2 weeks ago, I purchased a XOOM and have been enjoying it as well. Initially, I thought that I would just sell the NC since it would be redundant to have two Android tablets, but I just can't let it go. The experience of using both devices is very different. While XOOM is great for surfing the web (native resolution webpages without zoom in/out), typing long e-mails or watching a movie, NC is very portable and perfect for reading (can't hold the XOOM -or any other 10.1" tab for that matter- in one hand for an extended period of time).
I guess I'm going to keep both. I was wondering if any of you were/are in the same situation? Did you end up keeping the NC?
Thanks!

I'm not quite in this position just yet. But I know exactly how you feel. I really enjoy the Community that the Nook Color has, I love the size and portability that comes with this device.
But I want more. Really, I want to be able to have a tablet media center on the go, and the Nook is really lacking without hdmi out.
So I find myself really pondering what to jump for next... And unfortunately few things are making me want to. Doesn't help that I promised the wife this Nook Color in fall for her classes... Hope Amazon hurries up with their Nook Killer a.k.a Coyote.
I'd like to pick up a 10" tab running android.
I can't see ever getting rid of the Nook Color, even when that happens. I'll own this device until the end of it's life.
I like the form factor, and the nature of it as an e-book reader means it will always have use for me.
I can't see being the avid reader I am on a 10" tab.
I've been looking at tablets with my lady, and she still wants a Nook Color. It's the size that does it for her, and the quality of the device.
The Nook Color hits a quality level in it's offering that hasn't been seen in quite some time on the regular retail market.

This is going to sound weird after stating this thread, but I sold the Nook Color today
Someone made an offer that I couldn't resist (came ahead at the end), and after seeing the upcoming 7" tablets, as well as the 8.9" Sammy and anticipated Amazon tablet, I decided to let the little guy go before its value stats to decrease due to competition.
I'll be definitely picking up a 7" tablet to accompany my XOOM in the future, but I don't know which one yet.
I guess this should be my good by post to the Nook community. It's been fun!

Does the Acer bring with it the end of the NC as a tablet?
I looked up what specs I could find and the features do look impressive, except for the battery. It appears this is the tradeoff that was made to cut down on weight so "it would be suitable for female users". 1530mah that will last up to 5 hours? That sounds a bit optomistic to me. To put it in perspective the NC has a 4000mah battery that is supposed to last up to 8 hours.
No tablet currently available can beat the nooks beautiful screen. You can all the specs in the world but if your screen sucks there really isn't any point to it.

Isn't it just an IPS screen with 1024 x 600 resolution? None of the tablets (not just 7" competitors)? Really?
There are many tablets in the market with similar -or better- screen compared to NC. Besides, my XOOM doesn't have an IPS screen and I'm perfectly happy with it.
When you look at the overall specs of the nook as compared to the other 7" tabs on the market, the nook just comes out on top. This takes into account the price and the screen. One of the most comfortable things about the nook IMO is the design which boots first from the sd card. It is almost impossible to brick this thing. The only feature the other tablets have that I would want is a functional webcam. With CM7 and host mode enabled, I have all the features the other tablets have except webcam. At present, HC, as an OS, leaves a lot to be desired, the other tabs have poor to average battery life and there are few tablet optimized apps. Yes, HC can run all the apps out there but the overall results are somewhat less than optimal. For my money, I'll wait till q4 when we should have ICS and the quadcore chips out there. Not trying to flame any other tablets but I have tried out most of the 10" tabs extensively and have not found one I would jump on right now. Just saying.....

I may be looking into selling my nook here. The new 7" Acer Iconia seems like a great deal @ ~$300, with all the dual core goodness and nook size, but I shall be waiting for reviews before making up my mind.

As already mentioned in this thread, the main category that NC lags behind is anything multimedia related. The speaker, headphone jack, lack of microphone, etc etc. Of course, these are not expected on a NC, because it was designed as an eReader. However, since you are putting it above other tablets -even the 10.1" ones- then the comparison will be valid (again, normally I wouldn't even compare it).

Actually, one of the reasons that I decided to sell the NC now was because it is pretty much alone in its segment (i.e., 7" tablet) and the price is its biggest strength. However, any 7" tablet that is around $300 may make it harder to sell the NC in the future.
As I mentioned, I am still in the market for a 7" tablet. I just need Staples to start carrying 7" models, so that I can get it for next to nothing

So, you're saying size really DOES matter... lol... just had to!
My situations with the Nook is this. I didnt need a tablet. Couldn't even try to make up an excuse as to why I needed to buy one. All I knew is after reading these threads is that I just wanted one. Now I couldn't live without it. Its totally replaced my laptop and put a serious dent in my main desktops use too. I will buy another tablet once one is released that's worthy but the Nook has earned its right to stay indefinitely.
I bought the Nook Color because it was cheap and hackable and I figured it'd keep me busy and avoid ay temptation to buy something fancy/expensive because there will be lots of movement in the field this year. But once CM7 came out for it I've just been a really happy camper. I think what it's going to take to get me to move is a 4x3 aspect IPS screen maybe running ice cream sandwich, and a "family" data plan so I don't have to think about tethering or wifi access. The 16x9 screen just doesn't fit web pages or book reading nicely when in portrait orientation which I seem to favor. Yeah I just described an iPad, but I'm not going there.

Rumor has it that XOOM2 will be in 4x3 aspect and will be released -according to Moto CEO- in September.
I am selling my iPad that I regret buying. I want something else. I'm between the kindle fire HD 8.9 and the galaxy tab 2 10.1 are there good reasons to get this over the galaxy? I see the specs difference. But I'm still undecided. Any help would be appreciated.

Its a big "it depends"
If you're a prime member, that's a huge + for the kfhd
Its much easier to have a normal android experience on the tab2, but the specs are a lot lower. If you're willing to deal with rooting to get play on the KFHD and dodging amazons updates that break root the KFHD is better device. Or if you don't care about the full android experience and just want to consume media, the KFHD is great. I think only you can answer how important some of this stuff is to you.
Tab2 wouldn't be my first choice unless you got one of those crazy black friday deals on it for a 10" tablet in that price range though. I'd be more likely to compare the tf300t. Much better SOC and cheaper.
Is the kindle that much faster and is the display really look better? I like the idea of being able to expand the storage on the g-tab and I own the s2 and I love it. Whatever I get will be rooted almost as soon as I take it out of the box. Its what I do so that doesn't matter.

I don't like the iPad. The os is so limited. Everything is so slow. And programs crash all the time. The crashing may have been because I jail broke it but either way it just sucked. I prefer android.

Was it an ipad 1? IMO the ipad 3 i have is worlds above the kindle fire HD, except for the price. The kindle is going to be even more limited and slow than an ipad 2-4. Samsung has been known to not updating their software so i'd recommend a nexus tablet if you want to go android.
I returned my kindle. Right now i have a nexus 7 and an Ipad 3. The ipad 3 works so good it's kinda boring, the nexus is completely open and there are alot of mods you can do to it. At this point i would not recommend a kindle unless you really like the amazon interface. CM10 looks like it's coming soon, but there will be lots of bugs, and you have to wait.
Maybe not exactly the info you're looking for, but here's my experience with the various manufacturers..
My current round up of devices include:
1. NookTablet
2. NookTouch
3. Moto Xoom (gave to Dad, but I still maintain)
4. Sammy Galaxy Tab 2 7"
5. Asus/Google Nexus 7
6. Kindle Fire 8.9 (just got this week; they had a $50 off deal one day)
7. Sammy Note I (phone)
4,5, and 6 are the only "current" models; all the other have newer versions.
They all have their pro and cons...here's my opinion on some of them.
Overall, the Nexus 7 is the winner.
If you're looking to run custom roms, the N7 has the widest selection and (more importantly) most active development community.
It also has the fastest proc of the bunch.
Its one real drawback, as you and others mentioned, is that it does not have expandable memory.
The Gtab2/7"..the 4 things it has over the N7:
1. Rear camera
2. Expandable storage
3. I/R blaster
4. A lot cheaper (I've seen refurbs on woot! twice now)
It also has a good selection of custom roms, but the dev community isn't as active as the N7...and that's only going to get worse as time goes on.
It is noticeably slower than the N7!
If you run any rom not based off of Samsung's rom, you lose the I/R blaster.
It's not that much of a loss because the available I/R remote control software sucks.
I've used the rear (and front camera) not more than a handful of times.
As for the Nook:
I would only recommend a Nook if you happen to frequent B&N stores often. Or you have already purchased e-books/magazines through them.
Their stock rom allows you to read any book while in store.
Their "Nook Kids" is available as an app for iOS, but not available for any Android devices except their own Nooks.
From my experience their Kids apps are nothing more than a larger selection of kids books, and they allow you to record yourself while reading the book.
I've run custom roms on it and ended putting the stock rom back on (rooted and Google Play installed of course)
As for the Kindle:
I would recommend if you have already purchased e-books/magazines through Amazon and/or have an Amazon Prime account.
Amazon (AFAIK) doesn't allow you to stream any video through android devices except their own Kindle Fires.
So as a Prime member, I was able to watch Fringe for the first time last night (a title not available on NetFlix).
You can also "check out" a lot of books without purchasing them.
I did root and get the Google Play store installed on this too.
I most likely won't be installing any custom roms on it.
Not because I like the Amazon UI or anything...but simpy because:
With both the Nook and the Kindle, you get value added services (like being able to read books in store and streaming content not available on other devices/roms)
So for me personally, I'm a big Amazon user, and am digging my 8.9 and the Prime features.
If I was looking for best specs and most open, I'd probably get an Nexus 10
Geekybiker said it best: " I think only you can answer how important some of this stuff is to you. "
I own a GT 2 7, and theres a catch about the SD memory expansion and is that you cant install applications or application data on the SD; not at least on stock rom; the expansion its only useful for media (music, movies, docs, book, etc..) not for apps.
Regards.
It all depends on the features you want now, and or later.
If you like The Fire HD, it has amazing dual speakers and is a great multimedia device, but is limited at the moment due to the Amazon ecosystem. But both the 8.9" and 7" variants, are having custom roms being developed for them, because the bootloaders have been cracked. So if your willing to wait for the goodies, then go with the Kindle Fire HD.
If you want something with more of a all around Android Experience now go with the Galaxy Tab. In my overall Opinion if it maters, pick the Kindle Fire HD either model size.
I ended up ordering the gtab 2 10.1 I want the expandable storage for movies and pics. 16gb is fine for The rest. Thanks to everyone for their input.

I bought a Nexus 7 tablet last night and when I got it home, I played with it a bit and installed apps. I was originally on a nook color for two years and wanted to upgrade. While the Nexus is a terrific tablet, I get to thinking that I'd get a better experience with a Nook HD+ due to the larger screen.. but I need google apps to get all my purchased apps. I looked at the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1" but it only has a 1 Ghz processor. I mostly want to use my tablet for Netflix, videos and light gaming. I should have realized that going from a 7" tablet to another 7" tablet would not suffice.. even one as good as the Nexus 7.
I like the idea of full HD video and a larger screen, I just have reservations about the processor+GPU, Nexus 7 is top notch in that regard.. Does the HD+ need the HDMI dongle or is MicroHDMI included with the HD+?
I hope rooting it is not so problematic as it appears from reading these forums. B&N looks to have done their homework to keep Nook HD/HD+ in the B&N corral.

Rooting is easy, but yes you need the dongle. The processor in teh HD+ is underclocked, so there's hope the performance can be improved with kernel tweaks but we aren't there yet. Rooting and Gapps is straintforward so you can load your google apps, however, some show as unavailable and have to be sideloaded (pushed to the device using ADB on your home computer).
BTW, I've had no trouble watching full HD movies to date. The screen is very sharp. There are other players besides the one in the nook, try BS player for more codecs.

Thanks for your reply. After due consideration I believe I'll give the Nook HD+ a trial run. I find that I NEED MicroSD storage, and a larger display and the bonus of HDMI once I buy the dongle. However the one test I need is I have to feel it in my hand, so I hope I can find an open one this evening to try it... then I am sure I'll take the plunge... Sorry ASUS/Google, the lack of MicroSD storage is a deal breaker. I passed on the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1" because it just feels awkward in my hand.

Has anyone here tried the Nook HD+ also?
I'm on the fence between a Kindle Fire HD 8.9 and a Nook HD+. I wasn't sure if I wanted a 7" or 9" at first but I think I need a 9" because I mostly will want to use it to look at PDF tech manuals and CAD schematic drawings when I'm on the go crawling around in areas where it is inconvenient to carry a laptop. Aside from that, its nice to have something to use on the plane or sitting around at the airport.
The main differences I see are:
Kindle: thinner (barely), has mimo wifi (don't know if its a real diff), camera (already have a phone camera), micro usb (don't have to buy proprietary connectors), ambient light sensor (might save some batt)
Nook: lighter (not by much), higher ppi (barely), external storage (although I'm not sure if I really need it)
Price is about the same if I look on ebay. Software is the same if I put on CM10, although I'm not sure if the kindle is as far along.
For me, seems like the biggest diff is the micro usb vs the external storage, and maybe the weight, hard to know how important 2.4oz is. I suspect that the external storage won't really be needed so if the weight isnt a big diff, I think I may lean towards the kindle.
I'd be interested in any other important differences people have noticed.
looked at kindle hd vs nook hd vs nexus 7 inch variants...
They are all so close as far as specs...
I chose the kfhd for the hdmi output, otherwise I woulda gone nexus.. perhaps nexus 10 is a valid option? Gps is a nice feature.

The nexus 10 is $400 where the kindle fire 8.9 and nook hd+ can be got for the $250 range so its no comparison there.
If I was getting a 7", I might get a nexus
I've rooted every device I've ever owned on the Android platform. I chose the Kindle 8.9 because of the huge speaker sound difference, hdmi out, and I have Amazon prime. I fully expected to have to root this to be close to what I consider a working tablet.
But... considering the ability to sideload apps, which nook doesn't do out of the box, I have no need to root. There isn't one app I use that hasn't easily installed. I use Chrome as the browser and it's definitely speedy enough for me. This thing is a pleasant surprise and I love it right out of the box. The ability to sideload apps without rooting is the largest difference between the nook and the Kindle, and that makes the Kindle a no brainer to me.

To me the only advantage the Nook has is the ability to boot to CM10 from the SD card. Amazon's content and the sound quality on the KFHD won me over.
Well, I don't intend to use any of the amazon content. or at least very rarely.
The speakers are of no value to me as I would use headphones (unless the audio on there is better too).
but yes, it seems the SD card is the only major advantage. and to me, it seems the proprietary connector and the lack of ambient light sensor is the major disadvantage.
I'm not sure if what kind of difference there is between the displays. or just holding the device. the nook is lighter but I don't know if it is noticable. I saw one member mention that he thought it "felt" much lighter" eventhough he knows they are about the same.
I'm also assuming the CM10 will run faster than the standard with sideloaded apps
Yup same here I picked the kindle fire hd for the great sounding speakers and its good for emulators

The fire imho has better build quality but that is always subjective.

How do you feel that it has better build quality?
I've held both in my hand briefly and couldn't really tell. But maybe I missed something
Like I said it's subjective. The fire just felt more solid in my hands

I'm looking into purchasing a Nook HD+ tablet. I've played with it in store and it seems like a great buy, especially for the price. I'm a college student and would be using it mostly to view textbooks, take notes, and light game/movie usage. I'm looking for an under $200 tablet and I think the size is perfect (I'm not a fan of 7" tablets). Overall it seems almost too good to be true.
The reviews are mostly positive from what I've seen, but I'm really curious on the longevity of the tablet.
How long have you had yours, how do you feel about it/was it worth buying, and how well is it running after how long you've had it?
Thanks!

Longevity seems pretty good my wife's is a year old no issues still working great. My first one lasted about 7 months and then it lost a fight with a flight of concrete and steel stairs, any tablet would have failed believe me it was almost 20 feet of bouncing. My second one is a refurbished unit I have had it for about 6 months no idea how old it really is and it is working great still.
As far as light gaming and movie viewing it is awesome. I have the hdmi plug and use it to stream movies all the time. I read on it all the time I can't imaging you having an issue with text books as I read books, magazines, and comics all the time with no issues. There are faster devices out there but not at the same price.

Thanks for the prompt and helpful response! Have you noticed any sort of "lagginess" when you don't completely end a program (pull up the active program bar and swipe them away)? I was playing with one at Target and it was very laggy, but when I cleared out the dozens of apps that were currently open, it seemed to run more smoothly. Granted this thing has probably been abused for however long it's been on the display case and by many people, but I was just curious if you've had any sort of problem like this.
If you expect the same performance as an iPad you will be disappointed. It is about 90% in speed and polish for less than a third the price. I don't have much lag but I keep all my stuff (movies, books, music...) on the external card and I think this eliminates 90% of the lag others see.

Lag is normal for this tablet due to chipset. If you're willing to root, lagfix application fixes the issue by using trim. I run the latest cyanogenmod on my tablet and I love it. I read comics on it daily! Rooting, changing from stock rom to cyanogenmod 4.4 and lagfix, if you have the appropriate chipset makes this tablet a lovable beast of a beauty. I use it for word processing with a Bluetooth keyboard as well. Had it for 9 months and I love it. Would only stop using it for a nexus 10 level screen with an intense graphic processor and expandable storage. But honestly not looking to spend $600 for a tablet, so this is my go to device. I have a nexus 7 2012 that I honestly use solely to read novels and play a few Tegra processor based games. I like the 7 inch for reading novels, but use my Nook hd+ for everything else!

Have had mine for about a year. I rooted and flashed a custom ROM immediately. It is an OK tablet for average use with some lag. A good deal at the price but far from being a top product on the market

Thank you for all of your responses! To go along with my original question, how is the responsiveness to using a stylus for notes? Someone was telling me they didn't care for the ability to write on it, but they didn't provide much more detail than that. What are your thoughts? Especially with google play compatability, I'd think there are some good note taking apps (recommendations possibly?). I'd mostly be taking notes on top of PDF versions of slides my professors put out. Thanks again!
Using a stylus is not great at least the one I tried. My Note 2 is much better but then again that was built to use a stylus. Typing is very doable on it I do that in meetings all the time.

I will echo what the previous post said. Not that great with a stylus but as far as bang for your buck goes you can't beat this thing.

Does that depend on the app as well or just not good in general? Even with a pointier stylus than one of those wider ballpoints?
I only tried the one it is one of those freebies Amazon gives out with other things. I actually got it free with a case for a tablet I gave to my daughter. Works ok for general navigation. My mother in law uses the same type for everything on her nook she doesn't like using her finger but she doesn't do any type of note taking just reading and light game playing.

I have a Nook HD+ running CM11 and an LG G Pad 8.3 GPE. The former has an 8.9" screen but is sluggish even with trim, and the latter has an 8.3" screen and is silky smooth. As of last week the G Pad GPE is $225, so it's only a bit more than the HD+ (assuming it's still $180). I use the HD+ to read comics and the G Pad for everything else. My $0.02 on the HD+ and something similar.

Did you get the G Pad on sale? I'm seeing it from $279 online (best buy). I'm nearly positive I'm going to go with the HD+ though. I've been doing app research and I think I've found apps that'll fit my need on it and I don't need it to be super powered.
I did hear from a different forum somebody talking about being able to buy it, play with it during the return period, and then returning it if i don't like it. Is this true? Where would allow that? I would have thought that once it's opened, it can't be returned.
Barnes and Noble and Amazon both have really good return policies. Just double check when you buy it.

I've had mine for a year now and I'm fairly happy with it. Like some, I rooted and put CM on immediately. Performance is okay, if laggy at times, but the 1920x1280 screen is great.

Thank you for all of the help you've provided. I appreciate it greatly. I was talking with a colleague of mine about this and he brought up a good point about B&N getting out of the tablet game. Will there still be support/will I notice they even got out of the game? He was saying to watch out for it to soon become obsolete and be careful of hopping on the train right before the final stop.
What are your (and everybody's) thoughts on that?
Thank you again!
Pretty sure you're going to install CM on it soon as you get it, so no I don't believe you'll even notice the B&N are out of the game, as you put it
As the others say, there is a teeny bit of lag but the screen/battery life/sheer functionality you get more than make up for it.
One thing I sometimes wish for is GPS, but for the price really you're getting so much more than you're paying for.
They will continue to provide support through the warranty period and after that well you still have the forums here. The product works well enough as is and they haven't stopped selling content so it should be good for a while.

I bought 3 HD+ a year ago and all are still good running cm11. One is used as a DVR recording 2 cameras on motion to emmc. It's still alive but might break sooner (hope it doesn't).
The touchscreen is not that good, maybe because I use a screen protection.
Sometimes, alternating between apps (chrome, office) may be a bit slower. I used to use Swiftkey as custom keyboard, but aosps one is much lighter.
I've had my HD+ for a year and a half. Still loving it. Right now I'm running PAC-ROM on it and not having any real issues. I only update the ROM every month or so. But it's great for videos, surfing and reading. Still have no complaints about it and as long as trim keeps running, it doesn't lag too much.
