Hey everyone, wanted to ask a couple questions regarding my S3 LTE (first post so be kind! )
I recently upgraded to the S3 LTE (I'm with T-Mobile/EE UK), as most of you know it comes with Android 4.1.1, I've heard that the update to 4.1.2 is becoming available, I wanted to do a manual search for it, but nothing shows up in the settings menu. I have gone to 'about device', but there is no option to manually search. Anyone know why it is not present?
Also, I've installed quite a few large apps (mainly games), and I've almost maxed out my internal storage, I've still got 400mb left. I have tried to install a few small apps, such as the original Angry Birds (27.63mb) but everytime I try to download it or other apps I get a message saying 'insufficient storage' or 'package file invalid'.
I've included screenshots.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!
The update will need to be done via kies unless you are going to root and install a different ROM
the second issue, you will have to make more space, sounds like there isnt enough space to save, and unpack the apps.

Sorry I'm a newb, don't really know what Kies is or what it exactly does (also not looking to root or anything like that)?
I always thought you would get the notification of a software update or manually search.
Also, I understand that space is low, but surely 400mb should be enough for small apps like Angry Birds to save and unpack?

Kies is Samsung Software to sync.backup etc your phone. it also lets you update the firmware when it is officially released.
The Samsung phones don't do OTA(Over the Air) updates like some other phones
With the space, the phone may have a fail safe minimum to keep as if there is non left then most apps will probably have no where to save temp files.
This is the only negative I have with the S3 phones.
Go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1942150
Did mine today, 4.1.2 stock + root, it took 17 minutes.
Once updated it then will allow you to update OTA when required.
Samsung phones do update OTA. There obviously isn't an update out for your country or carrier yet.

He said he is with Orange / EE so the update is out.
If he uses the method I posted he will be fine. :good:
Thanks for the reply guys, I installed Kies and was notified that an update was available, I installed the update, which was not 4.1.2 and there was no change to the build number etc. However now on my about page there is an option for 'software update' to manually search for updates, which I as stated was not previously there.
Also, I'm not looking to root, but thanks for the info anyway.

Hey guys, so I have an unrooted & locked stock froyo N1 on FRF91. After I bought my phone, I manually updated to FRF85B, and then manually to FRF91 (too impatient to wait for froyo!). I tried searching the forums, but came up empty handed, so here are my questions!
I was just wondering if this would affect me receiving OTAs in the future and updating applications. For example, when the new Facebook and Twitter version came out I didn't get a notification and I couldn't update it through Marketplace, so I had to download them and install them through Marketplace to get the newest version. However, I can automatically update applications such as Google Maps and Google Voice. Does me manually upgrading have to do anything with this?
Also, I saw a new version named "FRF91-UP" floating around the forums, was this an OTA upgrade? I know it contains the new Gmail application as well as the new Facebook and Twitter app as well, and if it was a OTA upgrade, I never got it . Is there something I have to do to start getting these OTAs if it is an OTA? Or is this a leaked update?
Sorry for so many questions, I'm still learning how to use android to its full capacity ! And thanks in advance to whoever can help me out!!
From what i read, YES, your full stock, long as you got Stock recovery you will receive OTA's from whoever sends them, some Updates require to do a manual update.. i did the manual update too and all my apps get auto update, and i get notifications too, jus like everything else you can try do a recovery(stock) wipe/factory reset.. this might help in some way..
a buddy did this 2 days ago and he got some features that where there b4, he waited for the OTA's,then again i dont think he was really looking.. Lol
and i never heard of any FRF91-UP or seen anything around.. if anything i would have heard from my friend that has waited and all
Edit-
I just googled FRF91-UP this is for rooted phones.. if anything the pulled the update gmail and whatever else and ported it to whatever phone
Plug my GTab Wifi version to Kies and it shows firmware update (from KB6 to KC2), without telling any information about improvements.
Anyone has any idea what improvement the new firmware offers?
BTW, it reports as: PDA:KC2 /CSC:KC2 (THL)
ps: also wonder, after the upgrade, all the installed apps and data will be lost?

Probably just a few tweaks here and there.
Also, I'm sure that no installed apps or data will be lost, however, it is best to do a back up.
My tab is rooted, will it lose the root access by doing the update? Is there anything I need to do before upgrading to this version?
I think you must have a different version. Mine says it is already UEKC6. For future reference though my questions still stand.

I just completed the upgrade with Kies. It will ask you to backup contacts, ...., before the upgrade.
You have to root it again after the upgrade (superoneclick is still working); everything else seems to be intact. Installed apps and all other setups survive the upgrade.
I can't see any new features in this upgrade; so I assume it just fixes some annoying bugs.
Hi All,
I upgraded my OB from with the LG update tool today in India and suprisingly it did not wipe my evice and upgraded the software. All my data/ apps were as it is and when i checked it showed me V20b Android version 2.3.4.
Hope I have upgraded it successfully? I had the backup of all apps/ contacts/ sms but did not need to restore at all.
Can someone please guide if this is the new feature with the LG update tool or I did something wrong?
How do i ensure that my OB is upgraded besides checking on the settings?
Also, what other benefits can I expect from this upgrade?
Please help.
Thanks in advance.
That is the way it's supposed to be. Don't worry. You have updated your phone.
Settings -> About phone. That's enough, what do you want more. It should show under the android version.
2.3.4 is smoother than 2.2.2. Little faster. For example in my phone Application management works way faster. I was waiting a couple minutes for Froyo to scan all of them. Also there are a little UI changes, if you are a careful person you'll see it. I'll give a little example. Lets say you are in the settings menu and scrolling down. When you reach the end, if you keep trying to scroll down a blue light flashes from the end. Same logic when scrolling up. I didin't have that on 2.2.2 This a little example of course. Main change is in the smoothness and speed from my experience.
Btw, if you have flashed the update like us to get root permissions, then you would have lost your apps, since you used offical update via net you get to keep them. As i said you didn't do anything wrong. But you are not going to be able to root your phone. If you want root you get to flash a patched rom. Then you will lose them.
Thanks for the inputs. I had earlier rooted by phone and had installed the Titanium Backup which worked well. But now it has stopped working. I guess I will have to try and root again.
Thanks and regards
Apologies to forum for mis-posting in wrong forum.
Can someone please tell me how to an automatic firmware update from attempting to install?
I have tried disabling auto-update and push notifications but this DOES NOT WORK.
I have N7000DXLP9-------4.0.3-----------2012 May-----------N7000OLBLP6--------Singapore (SingTel) ROM installed and a few days ago, I got a notification saying that there was an automatic FW update. I assume this is the official Samsung release of ICS which is trying to install.
The only options presented are
Install
Postpone
If I allow it to install, it re-boots the phone then fails. The only option I have then is to postpone for 3 hours after which the install notification re-appears. Can I delete/disable the downloaded package using Root Explorer?
Would it help if I flashed the latest version 4.0.4?
I'm a bit out of my depth here.

Didn't heard about that Earlier... If your phone is rooted and know how to flash firmware. Then flash a custom firmware. I am sure it will be solved...
You could use titanium backup to freeze the software update app. This way the phone won't ckeck for updates anymore.

You mean, why bother joining a forum dedicated to sharing info about Android phones, exploring their capabilities and offering assistance with troubleshooting? Maybe I missed something.
As for taking it to Samsung Service, the first thing they are likely to say is, "Sorry, you've rooted this phone which invalidates the warranty".
Go into setting>applications>manage applications >all> software update and clear cache and data.
Then once again goto software update and dis able the check for updates check box.

My XT1095 is running the stock 6.0 rom and it's rooted. I keep getting the "Install System Update" nag screen all the time. It won't leave me alone. I don't want to update yet because I read it'll cause problems with root and I'll have to unroot or reroot or whatever and I don't want to mess with it right now. I was hoping that it would get bored of me telling it to go away and leave me alone but it hasn't. It shows up every time I unlock my phone if it's been sitting for more than 10 minutes. It shows up when I'm literally in the process of typing a text message, or when I'm surfing a web page, or when I'm in the middle of doing a dozen other things... like it thinks it's so mightily important that it can interrupt anything I'm doing.
It's version: 24.201.3.en.US. Just a security update from what I read elsewhere. It's not a notification so I can't long-press and force stop it or anything. I read that it's supposed to go away on it's own after a week but it's been quite a bit longer than that now. Any ideas on how to get it to stop nagging me? Or an easy way to apply this without screwing up root?
an actual app is in charge of nagging you to update the system software. I cant remember its name but it is located in system/priv-app, "ccc.motorola.ota" or something like that, cant really remember. You can try either deleting it or disabling it.
What i personally did to prevent this is installing fresh stock system image, updating to latest version AND THEN rooting, so updates wont nag me anymore

I did the same, but when I installed a fresh stock image, this new update wasn't available yet. It only came out recently.

Take a look at this post:

This should disable the system update nagging.

I did that, except the app name on my phone was a bit different. So far no more nagging. Thanks a bunch.
