Cannot disable auto firmware update - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Apologies to forum for mis-posting in wrong forum.
Can someone please tell me how to an automatic firmware update from attempting to install?
I have tried disabling auto-update and push notifications but this DOES NOT WORK.
I have N7000DXLP9-------4.0.3-----------2012 May-----------N7000OLBLP6--------Singapore (SingTel) ROM installed and a few days ago, I got a notification saying that there was an automatic FW update. I assume this is the official Samsung release of ICS which is trying to install.
The only options presented are
Install
Postpone
If I allow it to install, it re-boots the phone then fails. The only option I have then is to postpone for 3 hours after which the install notification re-appears. Can I delete/disable the downloaded package using Root Explorer?
Would it help if I flashed the latest version 4.0.4?
I'm a bit out of my depth here.

Didn't heard about that Earlier... If your phone is rooted and know how to flash firmware. Then flash a custom firmware. I am sure it will be solved...

You could use titanium backup to freeze the software update app. This way the phone won't ckeck for updates anymore.

You mean, why bother joining a forum dedicated to sharing info about Android phones, exploring their capabilities and offering assistance with troubleshooting? Maybe I missed something.
As for taking it to Samsung Service, the first thing they are likely to say is, "Sorry, you've rooted this phone which invalidates the warranty".

Go into setting>applications>manage applications >all> software update and clear cache and data.
Then once again goto software update and dis able the check for updates check box.

[Q] AT&T Update. Safe?

This morning I was greeted by a message from AT&T that makes it clear they REALLY want me to update.
My questions: What is in this update?
My phone has been rooted, had side loading was enabled, removed at&t apps, and installed the battery indicator update.zip. Is it safe to install this update on top of these changes?
If it is not wise to update now, how can tell it not do install the update? It seems that it will only let me delay it for a maximum of 3*4=12 hours...
You might want to try updating it via Kies mini:
http://www.all-samsungphones.com/samsung-captivate-i897-kies-ver-10082-8-1-software-download.html/
The OTAs have been hit or miss =P Though I'd recommend you unroot first, just to be safe
My Gf's rooted, but unmodified system worked flawlessly with the OTA, admittedly, on the second try. First try it just complained and failed within 5 minutes. Rebooted and it was good to go with the OTA.
You can just use the home button to exit out and it is delayed indefinitely. That is what I did until I flashed a rom that already contained the update.
There have been several threads about this update and plenty of information concerning it. I would look in the Captivate General and Q&A forums if you just want info about it. The developers section is good if you want to flash a rom with the update already applied.

Agreed, do it through Kies. Worked perfect for me.
And the same usual question:
Why is this posted in the development section?
And:
Why didn't you read any of the 50 update threads?

[Q] No search for update on i9305

Hey everyone, wanted to ask a couple questions regarding my S3 LTE (first post so be kind! )
I recently upgraded to the S3 LTE (I'm with T-Mobile/EE UK), as most of you know it comes with Android 4.1.1, I've heard that the update to 4.1.2 is becoming available, I wanted to do a manual search for it, but nothing shows up in the settings menu. I have gone to 'about device', but there is no option to manually search. Anyone know why it is not present?
Also, I've installed quite a few large apps (mainly games), and I've almost maxed out my internal storage, I've still got 400mb left. I have tried to install a few small apps, such as the original Angry Birds (27.63mb) but everytime I try to download it or other apps I get a message saying 'insufficient storage' or 'package file invalid'.
I've included screenshots.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!
The update will need to be done via kies unless you are going to root and install a different ROM
the second issue, you will have to make more space, sounds like there isnt enough space to save, and unpack the apps.

Sorry I'm a newb, don't really know what Kies is or what it exactly does (also not looking to root or anything like that)?
I always thought you would get the notification of a software update or manually search.
Also, I understand that space is low, but surely 400mb should be enough for small apps like Angry Birds to save and unpack?

Kies is Samsung Software to sync.backup etc your phone. it also lets you update the firmware when it is officially released.
The Samsung phones don't do OTA(Over the Air) updates like some other phones
With the space, the phone may have a fail safe minimum to keep as if there is non left then most apps will probably have no where to save temp files.
This is the only negative I have with the S3 phones.
Go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1942150
Did mine today, 4.1.2 stock + root, it took 17 minutes.
Once updated it then will allow you to update OTA when required.
Samsung phones do update OTA. There obviously isn't an update out for your country or carrier yet.

He said he is with Orange / EE so the update is out.
If he uses the method I posted he will be fine. :good:
Thanks for the reply guys, I installed Kies and was notified that an update was available, I installed the update, which was not 4.1.2 and there was no change to the build number etc. However now on my about page there is an option for 'software update' to manually search for updates, which I as stated was not previously there.
Also, I'm not looking to root, but thanks for the info anyway.

[Q] Update Woes!

I was hoping someone out there would be able to help me. I have been trying to find the related threads to aid my quest in updating my Motorola Razr I to Jelly Bean to no avail. The firmware is an orange gb one. I tried to install one I downloaded in a different thread. One that set my version to 81.5.31002.xt890.orange.en.gb but that didn't help.
The issue is I get the update in about phone > system updates. It downloads but fails to install. The update lists itself as the system version without the orange part in the firmware name. I spoke to Motorola who just said send it back in but I dont really want to spend 10 days or more without my handset especially now that I have tried to put a updated rom on it. I wondered if anyone had an update.zip or something I could run from recovery that would install the latest version. Or someone who could help / point me in the right direction of how to install an unbranded rom so I could try the update from that?
I love this phone but this kind of stuff is a real pain!
Thanks in advance

Fixed the issue myself. Needed to unlock the bootloader and root the phone to get it installed. I am hoping I can now close the bootloader or at least unroot the device! if you need help give me a shout and I can talk you through it.

[Q] Stop OTA installation of G900A OC4 from AT&T

I currently have a rooted stock 4.4.4 on my S5 (G900A) along with xposed framework. Two days ago, AT&T downloaded the Lollipop OC4 rom and since then it has been prompting me to let it install the downloaded update. I have been telling it not to since from what I gathered I will be losing root and there is currently no way to root the OTA OC4 for G900A.
Problem: Today, the OTA update popped up again and said it will automatically install the update in 30 seconds whether or not if I want it, which prompted me to turn the phone off. Turning the phone back on results in the same results in the same autoupdate in 30 seconds prompt in less than a minute after the boot up. How can I stop the OTA from pushing itself through at this point so I can stay on the 4.4.4 with root. Note that the phone is still on warranty and the Knox is not tripped and I don't want to trip it either.
I have reversed the Xposed overwrite for the status so now the phone is no longer showing official but custom instead both during the power up and in the device menu. I have also rebooted into recovery and cleared cache. Neither one of them prevented the OTA from telling me that it will auto update in 30 seconds at the following reboot.
Can someone help me stop this OTA so I can keep my current 4.4.4 with root?
Thanks

What is the name of the software update thing? Exact name? Assuming that it may not fail and may push through I only get a 30 sec window to do it and reboot.

Therws no finding out the hard way, it will fail. Its called att software update or something, the icon is a white and red arrow pointing opposite directions, i'd check for you but im on a tmobile rom so i dont have it. Just turn on airplane mode and it should prevent it from downloading.

You missed my question. The update has already downloaded and gone through 2 days of grace period. Now it is giving 30 sec to force install itself, not to force download. I know the download fails if the device is in custom state instead of official state, and I am at a point beyond your experience.
Can someone with AT&T Rom please help me identify what exactly the item that I need to freeze is called? Thanks.

Sweet! Thank you I just did a quick reboot and with Titanium Backup Pro froze it, and did a reboot. Although the force update gave me the 30 sec warning while I was trying to navigate Titanium Backup, I did not get a notification after freezing it and rebooting. Now, I got to play the waiting game and hope that one of the devs can figure out how to root OC4 / stock Lollipop on S5 G900A.

If your looking to get on rooted 5.0 then you can follow the above thread...it will also not update the bootloader so you can still downgrade if needed.
The update will not install if you're rooted, but the process is just annoying as ever. If you've frozen the updater apk with Titanium BackUp then you'll be fine. I froze that back in October of 2014 and haven't been bothered since. Every so often a security notice flashes in the statusbar but nothing else.

AT&T Tab S 8.4 - SM-T707A Lollipop upgrade released

Hey all,
Thought I'd let those of you that have an AT&T Tab S 8.4 know that Lollipop has been released today. Happened to be on the AT&T Software update page here: http://www.att.com/esupport/softwareUpdateArticle.jsp?sid=KB425812&cv=820 and noticed it listed the update.
Manually checked for updates on my tablet, it's downloading now. My 8.4 on AT&T is totally stock.
Downloading now... 1.1GB
manually checking shows nothing for me
Mine wasn't too laggy after the upgrade. But as I know from places like XDA usually a very good idea to do a full system wipe which I did.
What I am most thankful for is there is now an option to remove that Samsung screen that has those Samsung widgets that go full page. Can't recall what it is called. Yeah I know could have got rid of that using a 3rd party launcher in 4.4 but so happy Samsung put option there to disable it finally. To get rid of it, long press blank space like you were going to add a widget, then click Home Screen Settings, then uncheck "Content Home Screen".
Has anyone who rooted with kingroot updated? I'm assuming it'll kill root, just curious if I need to unroot prior, or if the update will still install. I'll post the answer tomorrow after I update.
I've had some Samsung devices which will update while rooted, and some that will not.

Not sure it will work.
Maybe try to adapt the method given by ashyx here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-s/general/guide-how-to-root-tripping-knox-kitkat-t3129484

I'm rooted with Kingroot and it's currently downloading the update. If you load Xposed Framework and Wanam Xposed, under Security hacks there's a setting for Fake System Status that allows you to set it to Original.
I'll follow up when the download finishes.
Update: The download completed but the install failed and then got stuck in a boot loop. Ended up having to go to the Samsung place at Best Buy to have them re-flash KitKat. Now the tab is telling me I have to wait 24 hours to check for updates. I'm sure everything will be good now that I'm back on a factory image.

Turn off automatic date and time and manually advance it by a day, and try again.
When they re-flashed KitKat did it wipe your tablet? The OTA failed me when rooted, failed me after un-installing adaway and un-rooting and removing KingUser. I cannot do a firmware upgrade via Kies 3 as it's not available. I cannot do an emergency firmware recover via Kies 3 as it's not soft bricked. I can't find either the KitKat or the Lollipop firmwares online anywhere... Currently I have a tablet, works fine, I did a factory reset (in the back of my mind knew this wouldn't work) that has a custom status and won't take the OTA.
If anyone knows where I can find the KitKat firmware, or the OTA, please let me know.
Or maybe someone could grab the OTA off their tablet after downloading prior to updating and share the wealth with the community???
Has any kingroot user tried triangle away, unroot via kinguser, and take the OTA?
Also just realized that if I can fail the OTA, I can obviously download it... Where do I grab it from if I wanted to flash it with odin or sideload?

OTA came down successfully while not rooted. The reflash at Best Buy didn't wipe it.
As far as I know, the factory images for the AT&T versions aren't available anywhere, or at least I've been unable to find them. They obviously exist because I'm pretty sure the guy at Best Buy used Kies to flash with an image that's available to him from Samsung.
I re-rooted last night in the attempt of using triangle away to clear customs status, then un-rooting. This was odd because device status still shows custom but download mode shows official and Knox is 0.
While I was briefly rooted again I downloaded the OTA in the hopes of copying it to my PC and updating via ADB Sideload... Couldn't find it. If anyone knows where Samsung puts these I'll grab it and post it to share.
im not rooted, performed a factory reset, and my device still doesn't see any updates. Can somebody provide a link to the ROM?

Turns out there is a imei problem with the tablet that is preventing the download. My imei number is paired with a IPhone 4. Anyway will take a few day to fix then the upgrade should work.
I get the same. I wiped my device hoping for a different outcome, and still no update.
I found this in the thread below.
It is an old tread but I'll comment anyway. SM-T807 is the 3G version while SM-T805 is the LTE version. Both Hardware (CPU/GPU) and comms modules are different. So 805 LTE (which has Lollipop) firmware won't work for 807 (no Lollipop is currently available nor Samsung plans to release soon).

John.
After not being able to take the OTA after rooting, even after un rooting, not being able to find the OTA and sideload (not in /cache), and not able use Kies or Odin I finally took it to the Samsung kiosk at my bestbuy.
They reflashed 4.4.2, didn't wipe anything, and immediately downloaded and successfully installed the lollipop update after getting home and on WiFi.
Just don't mention that you rooted ;')
