Hi guys.
I just found a method to install ota_update.zip (generated from aosp android build)
place ota_update.zip on /cache/ota_update.zip
then adb:
Code:
adb shell am start -a com.lge.hiddenmenu -n com.lge.hiddenmenu/.HiddenMenu
an activity comes up, go to Image Updater, then press Connect (need live internet connection), it will take several seconds
and then press Update.
Tested ONLY CODE!!!! IT MEANS THE CODE USING OTA_UPDATE.ZIP INSTALLER SHOULD WORK!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I start testing, i will write that update zip with runnable script to make full map,(BOOT PARTITION FLASHABLE?) and logs.
If this code works in live really, we can make a update.zip flasher in recovery as well.(because if need to test(ported roms lot tests.) i don't want to put original kdz back and then reflash zip
(if you press update without put file on cache partition, it is asking for file.)
I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE ANY HARM YOU MAKE YOURSELF WITH YOUR DEVICE.
Let's discuss guys. And if it helped please hit me a thanks!
i think with the zip we need an original one first related to update-binary
will my phone soft brick or hard brick if any thing goes wrong
no signature verification?
I'm down to be a tester.
i would be happy to test if needed. thankyou
bish
need to get a factorially signed zip. that can be from official ota.
and sorry guys but i really think that we need jtag.
need to disassembly the phone, put a wire between a special point and gnd, that will enable usb WRITE
i already got working nvflash in APX mode, but no success to start write anything.
So JTAG, or we need to charck/hack the official LG updater, what updates kdz, but there will be signature problem again.
This method works, already tested by me. but without proper signatures recovery will bump error screen and stuck there without sh exec.
i stop trying to hack p880 until i can't get a proper internet connection.
i made an usb driver for Optimus 4x to get nvflash work in apx mode, still no usb write.
weird.
No way to obtain a "copy" of lg`s signature and use it?

On a scale of 1 to 10 how hard would you say it is to take the phone apart and try that way,ive a little experience repairing screens and speakers ect on other mobile phones but never on the lg p880,
if i feel that it was within my capability then id be willing to take the risk, No pain No gain

Depends how handy you are but, its not very hard.
I already disassembled mine, just for curiosity
but I won't do any crazy bridge, jumper (whatever...) based in one "maybe" or "might works" and let's try it.

As long as my internet cable connection is down. And i have. very limited use on mobile networks. The browser app will stay off until direct links are found.
Edit: i have read whatever seemed interesting from wikipedia now. And i have to say: i only learnt what jtag stood for. Everything else was like an encryptet ww2 enigma version of our bootloader; hahahah

the dismantelling looks simple enough,so it would depend on where the point is that needs to be grounded(rear or front side of phone and instructions what to do once that was done
il take my time tonight and dismantle it and then can work from there
I have found something in the official manual of the P880 refering to JTAG on page 144, 162, 167, 168, 175.
I also found something intereressting on page 124 and following, especially page 131.
There you can read, that a "USB Mega Lock" is needed "for security reasons"
Its all about the "B2B LGMobile Support Tool" and the "LGFlashTool".
I don't know much about this stuff, so i would recommend that everybody who is interested read this by his own.

Hi everyone! My contract is ending and I just ordered new P-880 being aware that bootloader is locked and not cracked yet. I couldn't find anything even close to spec of Optimus / Swift 4X HD for similar price. Since i remember i was modding my phones starting from v-clay on Siemens MC60, Anyway... I'm ashamed of myself because price-tag won over principles, so I'm willing to help in cracking this puppy. I've got good understanding of Linux OSes (I use them daily), unfortunately I'm not so good in low level stuff (HEX, assembly etc.), but I'm willing to take risk to the some extent. So lets see what We can do.
Cheers!

I reed those already, nothing to exciting so far, but there is a hope. "Secondary init hack" looks promising. Bootloader unlock bounty turned into travesty unfortunately... Maybe we should send this phone to Adam Outler and ask for a little unboxing?
Seriously, maybe there is a way to run open bootloader from sd card, yes i know this is not Exynos, but still...

Okay, obviously I was rooted. Everything was great. I went into CWM, when I was going to flash a simple script mod (which every phone can use) well I accidently clicked off into my SGII files (which of course was stupid of me) and it installed fluxii kernel for SGH-i777. (intern flashes a custom recovery for the xx tweaker that that particular kernel uses. Of course, I didn't even realize I had done it, just went to Reboot Now. Now, I've got no Download mode, no bootloader, no anything, just blackness, I feel as if there is a simple key process or way to somehow get it fixed so I can flash it back via ODIN, but with all the confusing button combo's and ideas I've found so far, and all the ' types of bricks ' I dont know the best route about doing this, whomever helps me get my phone unbricked/unsoftbricked/superbricked/cute bricked, which ever version (assuming its possible) I swear on my life I will mail them a 32GB HP touchpad.
(I have 3 and only need 2) so, I hope this in some way will get me an answer soon.
I cantbelieve I pulled a n00b. No more not moving data from SD cards for me ever again...
Thanks, and the sooner the better.

I would rccomend trying to use Odin to see if it recognizes your phone? You may have to get a USB jig to force it into download mode and you may be able to save it that way I'm pretty sure a jig would work

It might be worth a go man. I would reccomend having it plugged into a computer and keep trying to turn it on even if the screen doesn't turn on and see if Odin picks anything up. Its not going to hurt your device anymore :/ you could always go to a hardware store and buy a mini USB and a 300k resistor and trying to make a jig yourself if that unbrick doesn't work (which I don't think it will)

(hey guys, just let me be optimistic here.. at least unti somebody else comes up with a bright idea haha

it involves a paperclip, and a hidden compartment behind somewhere where most would never dare stick anything, its rather a hidden reset button or something I wouldnt recommend it to anyone however...if someone finds themself in a bind id gladly help, but its that way or shipping it back if done wrong basically I just got lucky.

Yesterday I bought Google Nexus from my local MacMall (Chicago), and I was pretty stoked. The first thing I noticed upon opening it was that the box had been re-sealed. Then I tried to turn it on and the battery was dead. I thought that was kind of unusual, but not unheard of. Then I charged it and turned it on...
Below are pictures describing what I saw. I am going to exchange the device this afternoon. I was wondering if anyone has ever seen something like this and would anyone be interested in playing around with this ROM. I would imagine it is a proprietary ASUS build, but they sold it to me so it's mine now. I would be happy to post a link to the ROM, but I don't know how to extract it. (I'm sure there is a post explaining that, please direct me to it).

Do NOT return this! This is a very good find! Maybe if you could unlock the bootloader and make a Nandroid backup in CWM...
Perhaps stick it on ebay as a Buy It Now for the price it would cost you to order another one...
That way if it is truly interesting to someone, they have to opportunity of putting up (or shutting up).
No do not unlock it yet, it will erase everything. Do a system image dump. There is a toolkit in the developers section. Post it in there.
Also i noticed its running ICS

I thought someone here might want this, but I have to return it today (it is for my wife). I'm "good with puters" so I can follow instructions well, but I've never rooted or jailbroken anything in my life. I'm at work so I don't have lots of time to search forums for the proper instructions. If someone really wants this, you have about two hours to post instructions for me to backup or image or whatever it is called a copy of this ROM before I return it. I'll check back every five.

I'm not really sure what you mean by "raise issues or faults". It's hard to show, but when I drag my finger accross the screen, it draws a line with many dots and H and V coordinate lines. That was a horrible description. Basically, it looks like it is mapping the touchscreen feedback and then rendering a line. The line quickly disappears. The white and red boxes at the top of the screen acually have numbers written on them and those numbers change as you touch the screen. There is also like a red Frame the flashes on the screen when I select an app. I will try to post some some pictures/maybe a video. My phone sucks though so the quality wont be that good.

It appears to have test apps not included in AOSP.
You should try to cold boot to recovery from the bootloader and see if it'll go without being hooked up to a computer. Maybe the bootloader is different than production.
Can't he try flashing the stock rom over this? If there are no hardware faults, why risk getting one that might be defective?

Hello everyone!
This is my first attempt at porting Android Wear to the Galaxy Gear! I am not an experienced dev and this was done fairly quickly using null_23 as a base and the Gear Live system dump. This is not at all ready and definitely not ready to flash. If you do decide to flash it, you risk bricking your device. That being said, I am requesting that a more experienced dev check over my work. If it seems in order, then it will be tested, until such a time, test at your own risk.
Link: http://d-h.st/go2
UPDATE: [ONLY FOR BRAVE PEOPLE INTERESTED IN TESTING]: Since I used null_ as the base, the addons are still available, but please do not flash any of them! And use the stock kernel for the time being!
UPDATE 2: It might be a good idea to try using the custom kernel we have available to us. If I can get an updater script from the gear live or other android wear device and look in to modifying the bootclasspath in the preexisting custom kernel that we have.
UPDATE 3: I have figured out how to modify the bootclasspath, will make the modification shortly. I just need an updater script for an android wear device and we may have a booting android wear port.
UPDATE 4: Link to Attempt 2 coming soon. This has a modified updater script that will hopefully set all permissions correctly. This may be all it needs to boot properly. If not, then I may still need some help getting the Gear Live Kernel to modify our kernel's bootclasspath. If anyone would like to flash this, same as before, I can't guarantee anything will work or that your device will work afterward.
Link: AWAttempt2.zip
UPDATE 5: added my slightly modified updater files from fomey's null_ ROM attached at the bottom. fomey, if we get this working, could you package it in to null_ as a second ROM option?

Thank you for testing so quickly! I'm glad it did not cause any serious issues to your device. I will do some talking with some devs I know and see what I can get worked out. Porting to the 1 will actually be easier than to the 2 or Neo, since there is an android base for the 1, unlike the 2 and Neo which are Tizen only.
Do you have a change log? If this is based on Null, it's still 4.2, while the wear launcher, if I remember correctly, requires a newer version of Android, probably 4.4. Just curious what your plans are to deal with that. Seems to me the only real options are either editing the wear app or porting 4.4 aosp and hoping the launcher works. Theoretically, the gear live dump could be ported but the major difference between cpus makes it a much more difficult task than people originally hoped. I think the best chance would be if a dev team (ie CM) were to pick up the protect, but there's the downside to a large bounty: there's a lot of people wanting to go it alone for the cash.

Trust me, I'm not doing this in an attempt to get the bounty. The money doesn't interest me at all. As far as the change log goes, this is the absolute first attempt, so there hasn't been anything changed yet. So again, this was a quick attempt in an effort to get the ball rolling and get the community involved in the development.

No worries, I didn't think you were. You didn't have the typical billion "Donate please!" links that they would.
But what does first attempt mean? Just null kernel and modules with gear live system folder? I know a little about these things so I'd like to take a look, mostly out of curiosity, so I'd like to know what you've already done, preliminary as it is.
I agree though, we needed some kind of thread started and I agree that it's too early to put anything in the development forum.

Not just a swapped out system folder. the base of the null_ system folder is still there. I only migrated the things necessary for a standard port. The only issue is that there is no ROM for the gear live yet, so a proper permissions section is not available for me to port from the updater script of the live to the updater script of the galaxy gear. I'm pretty convinced that if someone with a little more knowledge than myself edited the updater script permissions section to set the proper permissions for the new files, that this would at least boot.
Hi guys, I stumbled across this ebay listing item number 161368138405 . The seller claims he will update your gear to 4.4.2 for £25 + p & p , I have emailed the developer a link to the bounty thread, hopefully he may be able to help.

Its some fake **** i think.
Would like to se a device info screen screenshot.
In the pictures he wirtes "This is not for the watch"
And later on "(1) Watch will become android 4,4,2"
Does he know what he is selling or not?
When he says "This is not for the watch", I think he means that you are not buying the watch in the picture. That is, you are not buying the physical watch, just the software upgrade.
I think it is high risk when you send your watch to him.

4.2.2.
I wouldn't be surprised if he means 4.2.2.
He was pretty sure on his reply to me it was 4.4.2

RevengeDevTeam: I have not necessarily classified this as a ROM, since it currently doesn't boot. That's why this is listed in the general thread. I am working on it, but there are no guarantees right now.
gingerdude: I'm pretty sure it's a scam. I wouldn't send him my watch if I were you.

So, according to drakon.us, Samsung has provided factory bootloader unlocker in the Samsung App store.
Search for "CROM Service", You can see the process here:
https://youtu.be/KTTgXqaP7Rk
I'm in preorder hell waiting for my gold S6E from Verizon so I can't verify independently. Is this something we can use?
Seems it's not showing up in the US Store. I'll see if anyone I know in that region can grab the app for us. Might be worth looking into.
So there was a link here to a place to find the app, then poof it magically disappeared. LOL gotta love how that happens. Regardless, the app that was linked did not work, it downloaded and installed fine, but when trying to open it, it just force closes.

Skyline,
No need for a hook up.There's a thread in the hacker/dev forum with both versions of the apk that I've come across... They're available to download there.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/and...sung-factory-bootloader-unlocker-apk-t3086609
So is there a way to make this work .... FC for me after installing
Well like I said earlier, I'm trying to relearn all this after not using it for six or so years... My intuition tells me that this tool is invaluable, and we know it is functional as we've seen on a Galaxy Tab, it does install and load, but after the disclaimer, it FC's. This is telling me it is probable that the device is simply failing a version or class checker.
If that is true, depending on how this was created, the source can be altered to work with our devices. What's critical here is that these are official Samsung apps; we're not recreating the wheel here. What we're doing is looking at an unencrypted tool that was designed specifically for the purpose of unlocking our device. That's why I posted these to Hacking/Dev. While I am starting almost from square one, someone who is familiar with the environment and scripting language would be far ahead of me on the curve.
Will it work out of the box? Nope, but there is the potential it can be made to work.

Good lord I hope you or someone else gets it to work. There's hope!
Decompiled the apk and explored around a little, heres the strings.xml. Just wanting to share what it shows.
I really hope this goes somewhere. If this gets ported than I will be so thankful. If there is anything I can do to help I would but I have not much experience with programming
Title is misleading. I would edit it
Done.
Any updates on progress or is it completely dead?
By the looks of it you can get it to work you just need to obtain root first... Which means it serves no use seeing as the phones that have root are already bootloader unlocked

But phones with locked BL's can be rooted given the right tool is created. And if it is then once rooted we can unlock our BL's and flash Roms like everyone else.
Sent from My Samsung Galaxy S6 "Pure" Black
Root doesn't guarantee any bootloader unlock. If that was true, then every phone with root would have an unlocked bootloader, which isn't the case.
Root would be nice, but without an unlocked bootloader I see many bricks happening from inexperienced users pushing things too far and not knowing a way out.
This is not your typical Nexus crowd in here.
I came from samsung note 4 and rooting is a breeze! just install custom recovery and flash a kernel you are rooted already!!! but with nexus 6!!!!! jesus christ!!! its like reading thousands of pages for medical examination!!!
download this and that, open terminal command, write those bla bla bla in the command and with one mistake your
hard earned money will be gone!!!!
all posted links are not updated for god sake!, all posted links instructions are hard to understand!!!
anybody here cant explain simple instructions! you have to read 1000 paragraphs to learn simple things!
CANT YOU GIVE SIMPLE INSTRUCTION ON HOW TO UNLOCK BOOTLOADER?
DO I NEED TO RELOCK IT OR MUCH BETTER I WILL TO REMAIN UNLOCK FOR LIFE?
This is the worse phone ever!
So, it's hard to root because you can't one click your way to glory? If you think rooting a Nexus phone is hard, I'd hate to see what it takes to be easy. The only reason there is any difficulty is due to security changes in Android itself.
Sent from my Nexus 6
its extremely easy to root any nexus, as in i have no idea what world youre in.
1. unlock the bootliader via fastboot. the code is fastboot oem unlock. the setting in the developer options has to be set to oem unlock.
2. fastboot flash twrp recovery.
3. flash any custom kernel(for marshmallow) and the latest supersu in your new twrp recovery.
4. reboot and have root.
Wow. No wonder the android community is going to hell in a hand basket. Laziness is just overwhelming. I've rooted every major android phone make out there except for huawei and nexus is the easiest along with Samsung to root. If you don't have patience to read what you need to download then have fun with an unroofed phone. I'm sure if my turtle had opposable thumbs, it could root this phone with ease.

i dont even think that having opposable thumbs is even needed here..
Its easy once you get the hang of it. As said before, changes in android versions make things difficult.
Or, you know, you can use Nexus Root Toolkit and one-click your way to glory.
I would guess its so "hard" because computers are incredibly complex devices that work on the culmination of decades of combined development and advancement, and you are insistent on remaining ignorant.
The command to unlock the bootloader depends on your setup, but is literally just "fastboot oem unlock" or "fastboot flashing unlock"
Then you need to install recovery using 1 other command
then you need to flash a kernel, and supersu.
That is literally it.
If that is too hard for you, you should probably leave it all alone.
Worst phone ever??? What?? I rooted , decrypted, installed custom ROM in 6 minutes. Try that on sammy

Easy guys, the users guide for rooting was like thicker than a thesaurus book if you print it on paper! Long, complicated and un necessary! Cant you produce instruction with image or video and with few bla bla bla!?
by the way just to inform everybody here, i bought a nexus phone because i thought those tech reviewers on youtube are real! Holy cow they are just a paid troll! They lie to us that this phone is ultra fast compared to other android phones in the world and i thought theres no need for me to root it. Because all i want is a fast and responsive phone not mr stutter nexus phone! The performance is comparable to 5$ china android phone! I cant believe it!

No you can't, at least not with older versions that don't know about Marshmallow security stuff.
But that's just good that way, rooting phones and installing stuff was never for the lazy and ignorant, who are not even willing to google stuff first. They just borked their phones with "easy on click" solutions then ran here crying for help.

You can root Marshmallow just fine with the latest version of NRT.
I used toolkits in the past but once I learned the fastboot commands and got use to them its just as fast if not faster; imo. I feel more confident and accomplished using fastboot; makes me feel more involved.

And brick it with the version before that, that people still try to use, then come here panicking.
The problem with rootkits it that they give people the false security that someone else instead of them knows what he or she is doing. And while it might be the truth, it's only valid until a new version of Android come out with even stronger security measures and people start bricking their phones without any clue why it's happening.
Click -> click -> brick.
I think the best way for you to root is just to go outside dig a hole in the ground and bury your phone right there.. Sit down just wait a week or so until it catches root and your golden.
