[Q] 1920x1200 or 1920x1280 ? - Nook HD, HD+ Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

What is the screen resolution of the HD+ ? I've read in reviews that it's 1920x1280, but I see in our hardware spec on the root level that it's 1920x1200

It is native 1280. But since the navigation bar is usually always there, I think they advertise it has 1200 available. And I don't know what hardware spec on the root level means.

As for the navigation bar always being there, that could be considered an issue on landscape mode.
In portrait mode, those extra 80 pixels can be really handy for reading.
"root level" - The root forum for Nook HD+; essentially, what I'm showing in the screen capture.

I still don't know what you mean. What root forum for the HD+?
And as far as hiding the nav bar, it can be done. See my linked post here.

At the top of the page it shows stats for the HD+.

Thanks. That page only shows if you are using the XDA 2013 beta format in your browser, which I hate. I use XDA 2010 for it's simpler format.
And the authors of that page are just wrong. It is 1280.

Yup, there was some mention about its unusual 3:2 aspect ratio in reviews. Which means 1920x1280. Someone was probably "correcting" what they thought was a conflation of the more usual 1920x1080 and 1920x1200 resolutions.

so what do you guys do for wallpapers?
any 1920x1280 or 1920x1200 image? or soemthing else, since the screens slide horizontally and rotate and stuff.

You actually need something even bigger so your launcher screens can shift. There are some on the device too.

BOOX M Series eReader

This looks like a pretty cool new device with a nice screen. Does anyone have any more specs/pricing besides whats in this article? It looks like it has HDMI out. I don't really like how it has a bezel and then a black border inside that before you get to the screen. I guess its confusing though because the four pictures that Slashgear has are of different devices when you look closely. The fact that it supposedly only has 800mhz processor, might keep the price down on it.

Whoever reported this info is way off in the weeds somewhere.
"features an E-Ink Vizplex display. The E-Ink display has a 8/16-level grayscale"
All of the pictures are of a color screen.
Here is a more believable picture.

Yeah I saw the onyx site too. That along with pics of two different devices in the article has me scratching my head. I took my nook back today and opened two new ones at B&N but they had bad flickering, so I'm currently nookless.
The Notion Ink Adam really has my interest for a supposed $375.

I don't have the flicker problem, or don't notice it. Anyway, there is a fix for that. There is a thread here or on Androidtablets that shows you how to increase the refresh rate of the NC.

I might use it if it were optimized for the size of the status bar with cleaner looking lines, ie not auto resized by android

what difference does it make if they are optimized for ONE specific screen resolution? you do realize depending what device you are on, it will have to re-size it anyway.
this happens with ALL STOCK IMAGES.
so again, why wouldnt you use them, Mr. 35 posts?

Wow, holy **** first of all settle down.
It must be the compression on your screenshot making it look a little off. I'll give it a shot.
And what does my post count have to do with anything? That is completely irrelevant.
ok swearing is a no no here.and assuming that they wont work rather than asking isnt the best policy either.
also it wouldnt be the compression of the image posted rather the fact that it shows almost tripple actual size.
I don't see anything in the Forum Rules about cursing.

How do custom ROMs handle buttons?

The kindle Fire HD does not have any buttons on the front side. If you're running an app in fullscreen then a little picker shows up at the bottom of the screen that contains the buttons "Back, Home" etc.
How do other ROMs handle this lack of buttons? I would like to install CyanogenMod on my Kindle, but I am not sure how it will cope with the Kindle having no buttons.
It does have buttons, they are at the bottom of the screen except for when on full screen mode. Then you just swipe up from the bottom of the screen and they show up

I was talking about hardware buttons or soft-touch button - like actual physical buttons.
I'll show you a screenshot so you get the idea, though keep in mind I'm using a tablet ui so on a normal ROM they are still there but more centered whereas mine are left justified.

Wow that pic is old, surprised I still had it sitting around, you can tell by the date in the screenshot.
When in full screen, rather than minimizing the bar like in amazon's os, it turns all the symbols and such into a small dot that's a barely noticeable on the black bar so it doesn't take away from the video, though personally I liked Amazon's solution better, thought it was kinda neat despite everything else in the os I hated.

Thanks for the pic. What ROM are you using?
Personally, I kind of like Amazons solution, but I would like to see it improved. My ideas is the following: Make the button-bar auto-hide when running a fullscreen-app. A click on the volume buttons on the backside could make the button-bar visible for a few seconds.
I'm on cm 10.1 with my tablet ui patch flashed on top of it. I couldn't get tablet ui working on cm 10.2, jester supposedly did but he never released it on his tablet ui page. I think I can also get this look using a ROM link the pacman ROM or one of the others on cm 11, I've just been lazy and haven't tested them out.

what is real sp resolution?

as specified it should be 1280 x 720 pixels. screen shot taken by the phone is 838 x 471 pixels. chrome works at half of what specified 640 x 360 pixels. can someone explain what is going on? is there some kind of a setting at what resolution app / rom should work? is there a way to change it?

Real resolution is 1280x720
Depends on the application I think but how did you figure out that Chrome works on diffrent resolution?

i'm developing web page with media queries, that's how. and its pretty obvious that its not 1280x720...
is there a way to change it? I've just installed firefox and its the same 640x360.
Seems weird.. But I think that the webpage/application is doing this?

now way it could be possible. to make web page with plane html / css change resolution of the screen...
Well (this may sound stupid!)
A decent small monitor has a resolution of 1280x720.. So when your device sent out the kind of webpage is wants it should not be the 1280x720 one since that one is for computers..
I believe our device requests a diffrent/other/smaller resolution?
@sunnydyz
only use
@media only screen and (max-width: 767px) {
and this @media only screen and (min-width: 480px) and (max-width: 767px) {
Dont use pixels sizes, use Percentage(%) for widths.
Because all phones are based in the same layout, if are MDPI HDPI XHPI.
U can test on firefox using ctrl+shif+m, and use 320x480
Sorry for my english

I think you didn't understood what I was asking. I have a screen witch is capable of showing 720 x 1280 pixels. but the browser (chrome / firefox (from app store)) is operating/working with screen resolution of 360 x 640. I want that the browser take full advantages of what my phone is capable of! but thanks for that ctrl+shif+m in firefox, I didn't know it.

Display Scaling Possible?

On my S7, I was able to change the display resolution and fit more on the screen. N8 has that built into the OS but everything is too large even in the smallest setting. Is there a way to reduce the display further with Nova launcher or something?
Have you tried changing the DPI setting under minimum width in the developer options menu
No, what would you change it to so it doesn't screw things up?
Keyboard and icons don't scale well when doing it. So annoying.

I run at 550 the only thing I have noticed is setting up the phone you have to keep your dpi low.
Edit : I am an idiot running that on S8 I was lurking Note 8 forums not the S8 forums my bad.

I know I should not be in here I can feel my wallet getting lighter.
I run 625, 600 is where the browser switches to tablet format. Nova makes dealing with icons very easy. I set them at 125% and scaled the icon font up. You can then adjust the icon grids to a more natural layout.
Queston. The device model works well but defaults to its values when you toggle resolution.
Is there an app that can resolve this?
