I think you got me wrong. I know Ubuntu on PC, I was talking about Ubuntu for phones (the phone OS, not the desktop OS port). Also I really hope we get a port of this, it would be awesome to test!

Miracle maybe? Isn't this what XDA is meant for? Ice Cream Sandwich, Jelly Bean can run on Galaxy Ace although it doesn't meet the minimum requirement.

I think you're not talking about Wayland's CM10.1. It is the fastest ROM I've ever tried, and overtakes by far the stock GB that Samsung gives to us. About Ubuntu OS, it was just curiosity... I think I'll be able to use it in a near future, I might get an Motorola Razr MAXX by March

Hey ya'll do you think its possible to get QNX runnin on the Touchpad? Because I played with one today and Best Buy and the OS felt very interesting and dare I say fun. I liked the fact I could load up Android apps. What would one have to do to get QNX working on the Touchpad. I'd throw in a Texas shot of whiskey to get QNX working.
link please I though QNX were only designers/developers, like they did with android and blackberry playbook.
Unless you mean the blackberry playbook OS which I dont know if its open source and might be warez
Well I was referring to the Playbook OS, but I guess before the BB took it over, it was a unix based OS from what I saw on wikipedia. So, maybe it could be open source. I would think since it can run Android apps it could make a case for it being open source, no? I guess I am wrong?

QNX is the name of the platform that RIM uses for it's Blackberry Playbook tablet. The designers/developers you were referring to is TAT (The Astonishing Tribe)
So I take it the BB QNX OS is not possible to port to the Touchpad, then?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/QNX

qnx is a proprietary version of unix and as likely to get ported as iOS.
I would have love it as it offers like the best of Android and WebOS.

if <insert OS name> is open source and ARM-compatible, it is possible to port it. just have to find the right developer + motivation to do it... basically somewhat those Android developers are doing: taking an existing source code and try to make it compile
if <insert OS name> is semi-open source and ARM-compatible, then maybe. (eg, Android 3.0 isn't fully open source. but you can take binaries from existing devices and try to make it work. also, eg: WinMo updates ported from devices to other devices
if <insert OS name> isn't open source and isn't ARM-compatible, then NO. (eg, windows 7)

would be awesome if this worked on th touchpad
Meego on the Touchpad would be amazing. Given Samsung's considering merging Tizen (aka Meego) with Bada, and providing direct support to it, porting Meego would make a lot of sense. Are there any developers who'd be interested in something like that?

Why would you wanna go to windows 8 with android around ? Android on G-note is much more powerful than with windows.
incase you haven't checked the "apollo" and it's capabilities please do a brief research...
windows phone 8 is on a whole new level of competition here...
considering the release of windows 8 for our computers... and the Microsoft E3 press conference... i doubt that "crappy" tag someone just gave above this comment...
i've been using windows mobile 6, 6.1, 6.5, windows phone 7, mango... and galaxy note is my first android device...
before galaxy note i was using htc hd2 and i still have that device... (but galaxy note is my primary device) so i thought if we can port android on a windows phone why can't we port windows to an android phone?
and for the respected people who are interested in this idea... i think we need another version of MAGLDR (like we had in htc hd2) and maybe we can install the "apollo" on our SD card...
we may have a dual boot device!
if you can find (or develop) the drivers, yes... it can be ported.
and yes, i dare say any winblows product is crap
you may "dare" **** your pants or eat crap sir/madam, nobody cares about that... and if you find this post soooo uninteresting or "crappy" why bother replying nonsense thoughts of your p-brain which (...is actually dehydrated) aren't useful for anyone?!
and thanks for the motivation you just gave me... :]
i posted this question to discuss, maybe help real developers/people not assclowns/disrespectful people who don't even respect the hardworking developers who create these operating systems for us...
Its my humble opinion !!!
I was also a user of Windows and bada OS' . And with android around they are not even in the competition. And this is my own opinion, so i'll move it off.
Android is, indeed, more powerful than Windows. But, different strokes for different folks.
Since we have sources now, I'm pretty sure more developers will come along soon and hopefully, for your sake, a developer that can port Windows 8. The more variety, the better, for us all.

don't hold your breath. those sources are linux based as android is linux based. do you expect devs to develop a winblows OS based on a linux kernel?
maybe.... just maybe.... when the winblows kernel is freely available and somebody is really interested to port or develop the drivers, then maybe you might have a winblows "experience" on your note. and while you're at it, why not wish for iOS port to Note?
keep wishing........

Firefox OS is meant to be a mobile OS and is derived from an Android kernel, it's not the same thing. It's also already available on a couple of Android devices (Nexus S/S 4G, Galaxy S2, Galaxy Nexus, all on ICS+).
That being said, you might want to read a little bit about the product you're asking for, before asking for a port because it "seems pretty cool". And while we're here, stop asking for ports altogether till we get the GPU sources, and don't mistaken the Ace i for a high end device.
People keep asking for CM ports, better gaming performance, less lag, etc. Well, perhaps it would have been a good idea to know what you're buying when you bought this budget phone.

Ubuntu just released Ubuntu phone os as see running on a galaxy nexus. This thing looks wonderful and I can wait to see it come to the nexus 4. Check this out
http://mobile.theverge.com/2013/1/2/3827922/ubuntu-phone-os-announcement
If it was up to me I think this is what android should evolve into even if it meant Google buying Ubuntu.
This is very well thought out is which basically uses the entire phone screen things are done through swypes and speech and everything looks like it works. The only thing may be app support.

Its not a full fledged Linux OS its Ubuntu's version of a phone OS, basically Ubuntu Android. The docking mentioned in the promo sounds like the Motorola Atrix concept all over. There are developers who have ported Ubuntu to other phones but they pretty much had limited usability for lack of drivers; no wifi, data, etc. This should port over easier as it uses android drivers. Also sounds like all android apps will not work with this?

It is great there is a little lag but this is pre release software and I believe it could be easily fixed. But even with the lag on a galaxy nexus I think this would run beautifully smooth on a nexus 4.

Yep it doesn't look like android apps would work, but if they could make that work or even evolve android into something like this it would be cool.
What's the definition of "full fledged" Linux OS? We're getting close on the kernel. Otherwise install Busybox and you're there, IMO
Exactly like Ubuntu's Desktop the limitations here will be apps.. I prefer my Debian/Ubuntu-based Linux Mint + Cinnamon over all OS's including Chrome & MacOS, but the lack of apps (which isn't changing anytime soon) will be insurmountable

Yes the os is is nice and it does work, but the major downfall of this is app support and developer support;they need this to take Ubuntu phone os to the top.

Well, it'll obviously be a lot better when Ubuntu creates it rather than uninvolved developers, of course. Ubuntu is usually not one to disappoint.
Also, I don't really get why they skipped the Nexus 4 and went with the Galaxy Nexus. Maybe it's just cause not enough people own the Nexus 4 yet, and due to supply as well, rather than demand.
I think this should be Android based, like TouchWiz. Then we could just easily flash it like a custom ROM and all our apps would be compatible and available from GPlay.
I think I'll still try this out though, looks promising.

Purchasable phones is what they meant by that. The firmware images are being released soon, which should find there way to a multitude of devices shortly.
It'll be much better than any other OS as long as it gets support, the desktop version is amazing but lack of developer support means you have to use Windows still. I'm not a fan of stock Android, Google never seem to be able to keep up, Touchwiz is so much better. So I cannot wait to see what Ubuntu will turn out like after a few revisions.

Reading Ubuntu Mobile's technical requirements makes me feel less optimistic about seeing it fully implemented on our 2X due to its 512 MB of RAM and 5GB of internal storage. Our device barely meets their minimal requirements, so I wouldn't be too optimistic about it.
Time will tell, I guess. Hopefully, the community will prove me wrong and we'll see Ubuntu Mobile running nicely on a 2X in the upcoming months ^^

i think our o2x can handle it, remember we have many super genius developers here, 4-8gb of emmc? i think it's full of bloatware, and ubuntu surely release an OS that will match in 512mb and 5.5gb emmc, like the NEXUS devices
This is indeed quite exciting. Still, I don't really hold any high hope for our device since nvidia and lg are quite *****y about their blob drivers. For shame, really.

it would be nice, to have ubuntu OS, hope the best, but we have to wait until ubuntu relase the first rom.
I saw the tech spec of ubuntu phone, and O2x
Ubuntu Phone OS needs:
1Ghz Cortex A9
512MB -1GB Ram
Flash storage 4-8 GB +SD
Multi-touch
O2x has
Tegra 250 AP20H (Ventana)
(1 GHz Dual-core ARM Cortex-A9)
512MB Ram
8GB flash storage +SD
Multi-touch
we have kernel modules for tegra2 processor
so hope, we get the rom for galaxy nexus, devs can do a rom for O2x, we have a chance
but this is for Entry level,
not for Desktop convergence
I also hope we can use the ubuntu roms soon.
