When I bought the N7 there wasnt a file explorer? Is this right?
I played with it a bit after the initial setup and didnt see it so I installed the ES File Explorer and Task manager.
Cant recall if it had one or not, regardless es is the best anyway with root access and lan as well.

No file explorer, just instal es from market and fun.

Tons to pick from. ES File Explorer is my favorite. It has built in lan share support as well as FTP support. Also has a built in text file editor that can be mighty useful as well as an image viewer. It also has root support to remount the system partition as writable. It pretty much does it all in one free app.
I use file Manager HD but I am sure that there are some better alliterative apps out there in Google play but file manager HD is free and it works for me

I use Astro File Manager--I like the interface and it lets me look at my files in dropbox, drive, etc, along with my internal files. I'm running a stock 4.2 rom right now on my N7, but I even use Astro over the CM file manager on my Galaxy Nexus running CM10.
Only thing is, I don't think Astro can get superuser permission to write to certain files (let me know if this is incorrect, that would be great if it is). But that's not a problem for me in day-to-day file management.
Edit: I see ES File Explorer has pretty much the same options and has superuser access. Good to know (I'm a noob, lol)
Astro is still great for a stock device
Solid Explorer is best for the tablet UI, dual pane mode makes moving files a snap.

So no one uses Linda file manager any more. What would be a good replacement for it if their a better options???

Es file is by far the best. Do all of my editing in it, can even watch videos and listen to audio. Es has it all
Solid Explorer all the way. I was one of the first people to try the Beta.

Lol, I forgot about the built in audio player too. How do they just give it away? Wow.

I like Dolphin HD. I can have it set to a desktop user agent, it can be set to not load flash elements automatically. You have to tap to load which I find nice. Tried Firefox but it felt a bit bloated. Opera Mini is nice when you aren't on wifi or 4G because it compresses pages for faster loading.
If you prefer the stock browser, give the app named "download all files". Just search the market.
File downloads in stock browser.
There is also an option under the setting of " astro file manager " to enable browser downloads in the stock browser.
I agree, I am loving Dolphin HD on the Bionic... I also use Lastpass & Xmarks to sync it with everything else I use.
On my Tab, I am still happy with the stock browser tho, sometimes I switch back to Dophin but waiting for the 'Pad' version to get the Lastpass & Xmarks plugins

its a kids app, great for keeping them occupied while they learn. It has stories, games, videos and painting and you get a weekly email telling you what your kid has been learning and including some of their drawings.

I just "upgraded" from the 4G to the HD but I miss one thing.
The 4G native music player had a great feature missing on Google's Play, which is the standard music player on the HD. The feature selected songs similar to the one you were playing and populated a playlist (kind of like Pandora for your own music library).
The nice folks at Moto let me download a zip file with that player (music.)APK and an associated file (music.odex). I copied both to my phone. When I run the apk file, it asks if I want to install. When I say "yes," it looks like it is installing, but then after less than a second it gives me an error that says "Application not installed"
How can I install this app or do you know of a music app that has this feature?
Thanks
Root your device and move both the apk and odex file to /system/app then reboot.

This is a helpful idea.
However, is there any way to do this without rooting?
Alternatively, any suggestions for a similar music player that doesn't require rooting?
Thanks.

Most "stock" apps can't be installed normally. None from what I've seen. The only player I'd be able to suggest is PowerAmp but I don't know if it has the feature you're looking for. But the sound quality is incredible if you tweak it just right.

I am trying to stream some locally stored .avi files. When I try this from my MacBook, I get nothing but a Quicktime Q and no playback. When I attempt from my Windows 7 PC, The file simply downloads in the chrome window, but doesnt open. Thoughts? Suggestions? Am I a meatstick?

Yes, extension installed on both machines and I am able to successfully push other media (youtube, tab mirroring, etc) to the CC
AVI is a container - the codec is what does the deflating & reflating. See to it you've the proper codec(s) in place.
There used to be a third party MSish codecs installer for QuickTime: FlipView?

I am fully aware of the CTRL-O, if you read my OP you would see that I can access the file but instead of playing, the file downloads (on my PC) the MACBook tries to open it with quicktime but presumably a codec issue. I would much prefer this working on the PC since I hate the MAC and I dont know how to use the POS.
Might want to give Plex Media a try. I know it's probably not the solution you're looking for but it is an option.
