Hey guys,
I've been following the instructions on felipemadox's thread on how to flash .kdz files to return to a stock firmware. It requires me to enter the S/W upgrade mode.
I've tried holding power+vol down (whilst plugged and whilst plugging in) with the battery. It comes up with the LG logo, the touch keys light up for a second and then the screen goes black. If i continue to hold the buttons down, it just does a loop of the above.
Any ideas on how to get into S/W Upgrade?
Thanks in advance!

I don't remember well but I think it is just the volume down button with the USB plugged in....you have software update screen
By the way are you on the leaked ICS boot loader...use all in one tool kit in Dev section to flash the unlocked boot loader and then Terry smart flash again
Hope it helps
O2X with Magical ICS ROM and supersonic kernels from my buddies
hold volume down only while plugged-in on your usb cable
Thanks guys, maybe it is a problem with the phone, but after about seven tries it somehow booted into the update mode.

Just so you know, holding only the volume up+down and then plugging in the USB is the normal way of putting it in Download Mode.
The volume up+down AND power button is the normal way of putting it into Recovery Mode, not Download Mode.
Hey Guys i recently just flashed my phone with ICS and it came up with error, then i replugged the phone the computer no longer recongised my phone and it can no longer enter SW mode, windos asked me to update and install drivers although i already had. I now cannot flash a new rom and it's bricked, i tried it on several computer but with no luck, i am sorry i am a newb and searched no answers help guys please?
Just smart flash/nvflash it with any stock ROM you can get.
Not trying to be rude.
When you press both volume + & -, the phone goes to apx mode. There will be only blank screen and notification on windows that its an apx device.
When only pressing volume -, then its smart flash mode. Smart flash program will recognize it.

same problem but cant get into software upgrade mode holding volume down and usb calbe in and the screen flashes one and thats is its not working
My AT&T G Flex randomly rebooted and when it did, it flashed the AT&T logo off and on infinitely. I did the method of holding down the power button and the volume down button, then releasing the power button and pressing it again to get the hard reset option. Did that, now it just shows the LG logo and stays there infinitely as well. I did not have any recovery ROMS installed. I assume my only option is to re-install the stock ROM.
If there are other options I can try, I'd greatly appreciate and try any. Thanks!

Hold in volume up and while you're holding it down plug in the phone to your computer with the USB cable. Does it enter Download Mode?

It does. However I needed a phone by today. So I returned to stock. Thanks for the answer though.
So I did a stupid thing and didn't do my homework. I flashed CM 10.2 for Xperia T (Mint) on my rooted Xperia TL but didn't unlock the bootloader first. The phone won't boot. Just a black screen. If I hold the power button, it vibrates once, but nothing comes up on the screen. No LED light indicating charging while plugged in.
Have I just destroyed the phone?

No. A custom kernel won't work on a locked bootloader, so that is essentially your problem. Just put your phone in flash mode and use flashtool to flash a stock FTF and it should boot up just fine.

Then maybe put your phone in fastboot mode and flash the kernel first... IDK, I did that once and I'm pretty sure that's how I fixed it. With 7zip you can extract the "kernel.sin" file from the FTF, and use Flashtool in Fastboot mode to flash that kernel.
Thanks. I've been trying to put it into fastboot and can't get it to work. From what I have read, I need to hold power+volDown, right? I've held power + volUp to get it to vibrate three times, then connected it with the power & volDown buttons held and nothing - no blue light for fastboot mode. I've currently got it plugged in (using the oem Sony cable) with a rubber band around the power & volDown buttons. Maybe that'll work... I dunno. The led is just staying red, and I can't see it listed as a fastboot devices by typing "fastboot devcies" when cmd is open in the correct folder in the sdk... Any ideas on how to get this done?
Thanks for your help, everyone.

It's a bit hard to understand what you're trying to do
Fastboot mode = just press vol.up, keep on pressing, connect USB, when you get a blue light release the vol. button
Flash mode = just press vol.down, keep on pressing, connect USB when Flashtool is ready to flash the FTF, when you get a green light release the vol. button
As you can see, you don't have to press the PWR button (only pwr + vol.up to reset, but you already know it).
Usually it's enough to flash a new FTF... I don't know why you get that error: maybe a wrong button combination or maybe you didn't install the drivers needed for flashtool.
If your battery is almost discharged, the fastboot method is good to flash only the kernel in order to recharge the battery and then flash an entire FTF.
I guess your device is ok.
Anyway, have you already seen this guide?
I'll give it a shot. I can't seem to get it into flash mode or fastboot mode, though. When I hold down the Volume up or volume down button and try to plug it in, the light stays red and the computer makes a "connect" sound (Windows 7 - rising tones), then multiple "disconnect" sounds (falling tones). The light stays red and the phone is not connected.
I'm downloading a stock firmware and flashtool and will report back when I've tried it some more.

I suggest removing the battery, if you have the chance.
Keep the battery removed and press and hold power and volume up buttons simultaneously. Then plug the phone to your computer and you'll enter fastboot mode.
I revived my XV with the same red led that way.
Had to remove the battery before it would work, tho.
Good luck bro!
Sorry it took so long to get to this. I've just been using my backup in the meantime.
I took the battery out and plugged it in like you suggested. Worked like a charm! I've got it flashed and running now. Thanks!
I was flashing my phone and half way through my computer lost power. Now the phone does not start. I can't get it into fastboot, or flash mode.
Pressing 'vol up' + 'power' doesn't work either. Anyone knows how to repair a hard brick?

Does vol down + power work?
Does the charging animation show up?
Does the led emits a light?
At least you could say the support that your device turned of while applying a firmware update and that they need to give you a new device :silly:

No charging animation.
if I press vol up + power longer enough the red light will turn on, but it still can't be detected by the computer.....
btw, yesterday I updated my phone to firmware 52.0.A.8.25_R5B and install the new twrp but it was stuck in a boot loop, so I repeat this process four times and still no luck, until the fifth time my PC died on me bricking my phone........
