Hi I have recently discovered that my nexus will no longer charge when its turned off, it always boots itself and the only way I can charge it is when its idle. Is this normal or have any of you experienced this problem? Any help would be appreciated thank you

The same is happening with my n7 too..the best thing to do is never let it go below 10% and always charge when its on or idle...

Not normal.
Are you running a custom rom or kernel?
Are you using the original cable and charger, or a 3rd party cable/charger?
It took me a while to get my 7 back up the last time it died. I ended up having to just leave it for a while and let it boot back up and die, then holding down the power button until it tried again and died. Then try plugging it into the wall and make sure you don't press any buttons. Leave it for a few hours then it was finally able to boot up but it only had like 4% even at that point. One thing to note is don't try to plug it into a computer as it will try to boot if you do.

how long you have left it on the charger?
just connect a charger to a phone, and leave it for a while, it will wake up...
I charge it overnight, no use, its weird, maybe I'll send to service center.

Does the note 2 have the same size of battery? If yes you could try that only if it's the same
Not same, tomorrow I'll try buy a new battery first if its ok if still not then to service center

One such incident was reported elsewhere in the forum. The phone won't wake up or recovery mode. But the phone was able to go into download mode. So the guy flashed gb rom thru pc Odin.

I bought a desktop charger and charge the battery first, its all ok now, seems my note have problem if battery completely depleted so cant charge with the phone directly, now I can charge the phone directly as long as battery is at least 1% .

I plugged in my phone for 20 seconds and I went to check for email notifications and to my amazement it's fully charged.
This is now another possibility in battery issues. I know I'm using a faulty device (that's why I ordered a RMA) but this is kinda odd so I thought I'd share it with you guys.
Let's hope this instant charge sticks lol. I went from 7% to 100% in 20 seconds.

AW: Instant Battery Charge Glitch
Had that also one or two times. If you leave it plugged in it goes back to the correct percentage after some minutes.
Likewise a minor software glitch that will get fixed soon, nothing to worry.

Good for example you need to go somewhere and you forget to charge it. Just plug it in for 20 sec and bam it's fully charged and problem solved.

AW: Instant Battery Charge Glitch
This happens when you plug in the phone and the wall charger has no voltage, e.g. because you use a switch that is off. If you switch it on, the glitch occurs and the phone is instantly charged. Of course that's not really the case, though. Rebooting solves this most of the time.

The Galaxy Nexus had none of these issues. I just hope that Google fixes this soon.

this is a non-issue as it is charging fine when left. no disadvantages except when you really believe it is fully charged in a second.

Nope. It doesn't let me continue to charge until I restart the phone (for me at least).
My phone did this last night. I noticed it right away, so I just unplugged the cable and plugged it back in and bam it went back to charging its merry little heart out

I am also experiencing this issue with a Nexus 4 (few weeks old) running Andriod 4.2.2.
Anyone know if this issue is fixed in upcoming release?
Just happened on my Nexus with Nokia 1.2mAh charger and latest CM10.1 nightly, reboot solved it though

I think this is correct. I've had this happen 3 times in 6 months and it's only happened when I plug the phone into the charger right after plugging the charger into the wall.
I've since tried to leave the charger plugged in about 10-20 seconds before attaching the phone and it hasn't happened since (~3 months)

Thanks, will try this approach.
i hope someday "20sec charging" will be a feature for every smartphone
Happened to me one night but when i unplugged my phone in the morning, it went down to 40% :/ so evidently it didnt continue charging after glitching. Battery usage pane confirmed this.

I usually charge my phone during nights.. Sometimes on the morning my battery is down to 80%, it stopped charging at 100% and I assume didn't charge any longer and the phone was draining the battery, has anyone else the same problem?

For me 80% only in standby is too much. I always get Fully charged when I charge it at night.

I was usig htc one with android revolution HD 7.1 about a month, it went perfect , and one night when he was in standy by I wanted to open it to check email but did not want to open, I tried several times to press the power button, then tried power + volume up went into bootloader and I rebooted thinking it's something one time. After my picture appears dark from HTC and not react to any key combination. when I connect the USB or charger does not light no light nothing. I noticed today that after 12 hours after I left it completely dead after I connect the charger the red light lit up sign that is loading, I opened it and I was glad to go, the battery was at 1% I played little with him after I left to charge. After 30 minutes when I tried to open same problem completely dead stop responding to any order and then all stand there. I want to send it to warranty but do not know if I receive it because it's modified software and not stock. Can someone help me?
its sounds like a battery problem to me.

Yes I used a Sony Xperia Charger but I don't think this is the problem... My biggest problem is if they will receive it in warranty change with the bootloader unlocked , and android revolution hd in it.. I think increasingly more like it would be a problem with the battery. at intervals of 5-6 hours if you stay connected to the charger lit about 10 minutes and can use after dying ..
How can I copy on sd card from bootloader/recovery ?
I just flashed CyanogenMod 10.2 and it won't charge anymore I know the charger works because I can connect it to any other device it'll charge.
if its the pacman build i had this same problem..
the battery was actually draining down while connected to the pc.
maybe try a different rom..
PROBAM Rom have many of those bugs taken care of which you can try

The phone is dead now anything I can do?
Is your phone bootloader unlocked?
Have you tried charging it with phone off?
The only thing I can think of trying is going to fastboot and and go back to stock but i think you need at least 40% of battery
Sent from my MB886 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Are you using the original charger that came with the phone? If not, try using that one or a more powerful unit.
OK so the fun is dead there is only a green light on I can't boot into anything and I'm using the charger that comes with the Nexus 7

Only thing I can suggest is using the original charger that came with the phone. I recall reading posts from other users that could get their phone to charge by using the usb cable and charger that came with their phone.
If its dead and will not respond to a cable (original Motorola cable plugged into wall) , you may have to invest in a Factory Cable and let it charge in the bootloader so you can RSD a stock ROM.

I've had the tablet for about six months, it's completely stock, and never had any problems.
I plugged it in earlier and the battery symbol comes up to show it's charging but then it disappears and goes blank then a few seconds later it does the same thing? It won't turn on, I've tried holding volume down+power but still nothing? I've tried a different charger, I'll try a different lead tomorrow.
Anyone have any other ideas? I need to get it working as soon as possible as we use it as a baby monitor.

Now solved.
It was a dodgy lead.
