I work at a Surplus and Recycling office and a Dell Streak 7 Came through here today.
I would like to know if there is anyway to salvage this item and possibly get it to work.
First I will list information:
Dell Streak 7
3G version I think, Has the sim Card clot
Date: 2011.04
I have the service tag and other things but I won't list those here.
The problem I am having seems to be a Read only mode from what I have read. The tablet wont do anything, the charging light does not come on, the screen doesn't light up or anything. I have tried plugging it into the wall charger and the USB charger nothing will happen. I have tried pressing the volume up+power button and nothing happened. I have also tried hitting the hard reset button beside the SD card slot. Nothing happened then either.
If you could help me out at all it would be great,
Thanks
Try letting it sit on the charger for 24 hours.
Does this mean that there could be some dead battery issue and it just needs to charge for 24 hours?
Its possible. No way to tell really till we get it powered on.
Alright, so what if charging it for 24 hours does nothing? Just e-scrap it? haha

You might be able to request service from Dell.
It could also be a bad charging cable or wall charger, hence why its not charging.
So the charger is a 30-pin correct? could an older Iphone or ipod usb cable work to charge this, or to test if the OEM is bad?

Nope, has to be a Dell specific one because the pin layout is different.
I let it sit on the charger and it did nothing. I think this thing is a f'ed up
Yeah, either dead battery, or bad cable/charger.

Ok so this nook was bought brand new in December 2010 For my mother In-law. She hasn't used it much. So I asked if I could put Android on it? She said sure cause she hasn't used it at all. As a matter of fact the NC was totally dead when she gave it to me. So I get back to my house and put it on the stock charger. I let it charge for 2 hours. I picked it up and turn it on and all I see is this message: Battery too low to power ON. I did a search and turned up similar problems but the nc where all rooted. I'm wondering if other people have had this same problem? And what they did to solve this as it is more then likely an easy fix. A. Take it back to the store and exchange it. Or. B. Send it off for repairs. C. Someone On XDA has the answer.
Also I've done some trouble shooting like trying to reset it. Also I've used 3 Other chargers and its still not charging or turning on.
Edit: It turns on it just stays at the screen with a red battery displaying the message in the title. Also after charging for a while the screen kind of lites up like its going to turn on but only goes black after that and then comes back to the same red battery screen.

what are you charging from? are you using the stock nook cable and plug?
Yes. And charging it from the wall outlet. Did that with the stock charger. my charger from my HD2 and also tried with the charger from my vibrant. All have the same affect. It has the red battery and the messege below and it also has been a total of 6 hours of charging 2 hours each with the all the chargers.
That stinks. You may have to contact B&N for it. If your using the stock and other chargers then it must be a battery failure.

Yeah seems to me thats what it must be I'll post back what I find out.
When that message is displayed, try holding the power button for 30+ seconds and then turning it back on.
That has worked for me the couple of times it seemed stuck on that screen.

If you're using other chargers, it's possible that you've damages the usb port. The NC uses a non standard usb port, which has two stages. The first stage is standard 5 pin uusb communication, the second stage is non-standard 12 pin charging...
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA Premium App
Non-Standard chargers...
As far as I can tell it works fine with any microusb cord.
Their charger cables break...(bend and break) very easy. I have gone through 2.
The upside is that their charger provides power far faster than the normal microusb cords.
At this point...I'm charging mine almost exclusively from my stock evo cord.
If you don't turn off the screen when charging...it may not have enough power coming in to actually build a charge without their cable.

I never used another charger besides the stock charger that came with the NC. Up until this happened all that was ever used was the stock cable for charging. I only used another charging cable once I ran into these problems cause I figured the cable was damaged. Its happened to me before with other devices. But the same results happen with every cord I use. When I plug it in it lights up and shows the red battery screen. So that tells me that the cord or USB port couldn't be the problem. Cause its clearly getting power its just not charging.

No. They sell it without one...the 8GB internal storage is enough for looooottts of books. The microsd was just a nice + for people with lots and lots of music.
I had this issue as well, but I found a fix!
No matter what I did or how long I let it charge, it would always have that red low battery icon.
What I ended up doing to fix it was opening up the back of the unit and disconnecting the battery cable from the unit. I then plugged it directly into the wall without the battery connected to see if it would boot, though I don't know if that was necessary, I don't even remember if it booted that way or not.. I think it did not.
Anyway I unplugged the power cable again, reconnected the battery, then plugged in the power cable and tried to boot and it booted up perfectly after that. The battery icon indicated 13% charge, but it quickly charged back up just fine.
FYI I left the unit in the car overnight right before this happened, and it was pretty chilly that night, 10-20 degreed Fahrenheit. I suspect that caused the issue for some reason, so I've been sure not to do so since.
P.S. I had to do a fair amount of googling around before I found good instructions on taking apart the NC. I think I had to take off the 2 screws under the SD card slot and use a butter knife to just pry the back off. It's just held in with clips and you can't tell it was opened except for the little stickers over the screw holes.

Thanks for the feed back. I'm wondering by un-pluging the battery from the nook if it resets it. Kind of like if a phone freezes or if your computer freezes and you pull the battery. Seems like a plan. Not sure if this is what I'll do as I'm sure its still under warranty. If it comes back and its not covered or B & N wont replace it I guess thats my only hope.
im having the same problem as well it was off for a while and now its at the red batter screen. i guess ill try and take it apart?

So I got it fixed right. All it was was a faulty cable lol!

I had this problem too, but I'm not sure "faulty" is the right word for the cable.
My friend borrowed my nook and returned it with a dead battery (Thanks asshole). So I plugged it into my computer at work and just got the always-on low battery message. After 45 minutes I took it to my car so I wouldn't forget it. I plugged it into my USB charger in the car using a different cable. Two hours later, same state.
When I got home I pugged it into the Nook wall charger with yet another cable (not the nook's original) and got the same thing. I searched here to see if I could figure out what was going on and decided to try the original cable with the wall plug. literally two seconds after plugging it in it started booting into Froyo.
I'm sure I didn't have four "faulty" cables. I think those that are saying you should be using the original are correct. The others worked fine when the battery wasn't empty, but mine only responded to the original once it got to the point of the unending low-battery message.
Original charger / cable required with totally empty battery
Same here. With battery completely empty and non standard cable, stuck at red battery sign forever. With orginal cable, boots fine and charges.
solution I found
Have CM7 installed on SDCard, got the battery icon, even with the unit plugged into the charger with oem equipment. Held the power button 'til the unit turned off completely, removed the sdcard, rebooted. Nook booted into stock fine, turned off, re-inserted sdcard and rebooted. All is well.
So I have a streak 7 wifi only model. A few nights ago I upgraded manually to HC 3.2 with no problems. System seemed normal and everything in life was good. I forgot to charge my streak and when I woke up it was dead as expected as the battery was already low. So I plugged it in and let it sit for a few hours. Didn't even occur to me the light never came on for charging. So I figured I must have forgot to plug it in. When I looked it was plugged in correctly. So I plugged it in yesterday and let it sit for 24hrs and still no juice in the battery. I have tried unplugging the cable and reconnecting. I have tried using the power reset pin. I have tried different usb charging adapters. As I said it is dead so I can't get into the recovery menu to perform a factory reset. The power cord I got was just shipped to me on Tuesday Oct. 4 from Dell and worked fine when I first used it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Try this as it may not be the cord but the converter itself. Plug in the USB to a computer that is ON and RUNNING. In other words...not in sleep mode. Let it sit for a few hours and also note if the light comes on. It just may be the converter may have gone bad. Also try by resetting in using a needle and push it in the small hole to reset it.

Do you have the original charger and the cable that was received from Dell is the right cable? I had one shipped from China and all it does is trickle charge, the original cable from Dell that came with my unit charges it in less than an hour on the same charger. Make sure your charger has at least 2 Amps output, cheap 1 Amps will only trickle charge

I want to thank you both for your responses. I have had it charging for about 3-4 days now and it has not worked no matter what I try. I called Dell and they are sending out a new unit. It is scheduled to arrive today.
Plug a charger and force power off with a button(A small hole) next to SD card. Mine sometimes freezes not responding after screen off so I just do this trick, power on it and OMG it works
Cheers
Thanks - this worked for me
Hello guys, for some reason when plugged in this will not power on(my dell streak). The lights turn on dimly but that's about it.
Any idea why this might be happening? Or is it best to send it to the scrap heap?
Sounds like a hardware issue. I'd send it to Dell asap.
and if it's no longer under warranty?
I don't mind opening it and attempting to repair it. I just need an idea of what needs to be fixed or replaced.
would anyone know?
Wall charger or plugged into a USB port on a computer?
Might be a bad pin on the connector, might be if not if enough volt/amp if you are not using wall charger, might be dead battery.

the 3 side LED lights turn on, charger light is red, nothing works. not even hard reset or resetting with power button and volume +-
hold in the hard reset button for 2min to confirm that it wont do anything
It just because u over exhausted baterry. I had it be4. Let it charge for 2 hr u will be okay. Or, charge 10 min then hard reset and confirm if u can still fastboot or recovery, reinstall sodtware

So my cousin gave me his HP TouchPad to fix because it didnt boot up, he had gotten it from someone and it worked for a while as he stated but than it died and now it woulndt turn on. It's a 16bg i believe and i have searched the forums so i did try a few tricks. When i hold the power button it gives me the low battery and right after it, the white connect to power logo. It shuts off afterwards. When i connected to the computer straight away, it gives the low battery and says to charge reliably use the original cables and so fort, then it shuts off. Anyone can help me with this please?
Thank You
did you try to charge it with the original charger?
Bad charging cables are known to cause this problem.
Well I have the USB cable it came with but not the wall charger. Tried cables from my galaxy s 4g, blackberry and few other cables that fit it. Nothing. Tried apple wall charger and Samsung wall charger still nothing. U know where I can buy the originals for it?

You need that hp charger or one that puts outt the same juice 5.3v=2.0A it wont charge on the computers usb port.
It will charge with a 1 amp charger(iPhone;htc wall usb) albeit slowly.
Definately test another cable, find the highest rated USB charger you can, ????, profit!
Well thanks for the replies. I just got home from work and it was connected to the usb port all day, now i took my iphone chargers end and connected it into the power strip and connected the usb. I know that it has been said that "if your touchpad completely dies, you must have the OEM charger to start it back up". At first this seems true. . .However! I would like to report that twice now, when it was completely dead and displaying the "plug in the original charger for reliable charging or die because im a juice nazi", I was able after about 4 hours of just leaving it alone plugged into a 1amp phone charger, to get it to charge up and boot. This may have already been discovered but I couldn't find mention of it. Just wanted to give hope to someone that might have given up on this.

So when you connect 1 amp phone charger, does the TP says to connect the original charger? Even if it says to connect the original charger, and leaving it for 4 hours the TP charged is that right???
My problem is when I connect to cell phone charger, it says to connect original charger.
When I connect original charger, the TP stays at 0% even after connecting the charger overnight. I dont know what is the problem? is it charger, is it battery or is it TP..

The message will be displayed but it is gradually charging in the background. When it gets enough juice, it will start up and charge faster. In your case it sounds like either your port or battery are damaged somehow. Possibly the charging circuitry but that is unlikely. If you don't have an original charger or touchstone, then your options are limited. They aren't very expensive on ebay though. I would let it charge on a good 1 amp charger for a few days and see what happens then. Mine did the "soft brick" crap once where it was completely unresponsive and ran completely dead and i just charged it for 4 days and forgot about it and when i remembered it, it had powered on and booted. TPs are funny devices. Expect anything and report it if you don't mind. Maybe we can get this sorted out.

I have original wall charger, and got a new cable from ebay. So I am hoping its equivalent to original charger. How can I debug if the port or battery is damaged.. any idea?
I left it on charge overnight yesterday. It was at 0, in the morning.. I left it on charge today before coming to office. i am expecting it to be at 0, when I go home.. When its connected to charger, its working normally (with 0 battery), but as soon as i remove from charger, it will shutdown..
Morning, when I was charging,
the battery monitor widget app showing Battery flow as "-600mA". I think this should be +ve while charging. the same app was showing status as "Charging AC plugged". I will try to charge my phone with the same cable and charger, if the phone shows +ve current flow, then, its deffinetly should be problem with the battery or touchpad right..
I wil test it in the evening.. and if its problem with battery or touchpad.. i will try to clean the TP and will try again.. Lets see how it goes
Ok so you have the original charger, great! And it boots into android/webos correct? It sounds like your A6 firmware might have crapped out or whatever it does to cause battery issues. Probably not bad battery if this happened rather suddenly, and its not a bad port if its booting and running while plugged, even if its not charging. . .so go here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2756314
and read it carefully! With this tool, you can do some really cool stuff including re-flashing the A6 battery monitor/control chip. It can (but might not) fix issues like this. Give it a try with a good cable and let me know what happens. Good luck!

Aw dude....well hey it happens to the best of us lol. Now u know a lot more about ur tablet and i would still recommend reflashing the A6 and removing webos if u dont use it. Tptoolbox can also be "installed" by renaming the boot image .bin file to uImage.TPtoolbox and placing it in /boot on your android partition. This allows moboot to see it. Off topic i know but i thought you might be interested. Best of luck with the re-assembly!

Fixed my Touchpad!
I had the same issue and just wanted to report what worked for me. My touchpad wasn't responding to any button pressing combos and even after sitting on the charger for two days, didn't want to turn on. After some google searching I found my Touchpad might be so dead that the charging circuity might not want to charge the battery and all the fixes were telling me to take apart the Touchpad and charge the battery directly. That's not something I really wanted to do. Then another person suggested to charge the Touchpad with a lower amp charger, so I plugged the Touchpad into an iPhone charger for about an hour. I came back, held the power button and home button - nothing. Tried power, volume up, and home - nothing. But then I held the power button and hit the home button ~10 times and then... the home button started blinking left and right. YES! I took the Touchpad and put it on the original charger, 15 minutes later it had the Low Battery Screen and another 15 minutes later, Cyanogenmod was booting.
I need help. When I try to transfer the Android files to the HP TouchPad using TPtoolbox, Windows says that there is an F drive that I have to format before I use it. In the tutorials, a drive labeled HP TOUCHPAD or something like that shows in Windows, and you can put the Android files inside of the ttinstall folder. Should I format the drive and if so, what format?
