Is it possible that the phone is not able to boot (even with JIG) and can't be discovered by computer, because of broken "bios" battery? I'm just an amateur but for me it looks like there is some kind of leak. In Samsung service center they told me that my mobo needs to be changed, but I don't belive them and I'm not gonna pay $350 because they are to lazy and money hungry to check what is really wrong with my phone.
After watching the service manual, it looks to be a backup capacitor.
The part # is: 2409-001186
The value is 33000 µF @ 3,3 volts operating voltage.
This should very cheap.
Almost sure that it's only for RTC backup, you should try to remove it to see if your phone boots up.

If you mean normal big flat battery from Samsung, then the answer is yes. But I'm not really sure if this what is on my pictures is a battery or a capacitor. Can't really move this thing. Either way it doesn't look good to me, but maybe it suppose to be like this.

You mean I should remove it and try to boot the phone without it or I should remove it, put a new one and then try to boot?

Just lift the minus connection (easiest pad) and check if the phone boots up.
If it boots, then buy a new one and change it.

Did it but nothing new. Phone is still dead - no download mode, no discovery in windows, only warm when connected to charger or when battery is in. But thanks for help.
So you should download the service manual and follow the repair procedure.
I will look into this but without proper equipement I don't think that I would be able to do anything.

Thanks for this information, it was very difficult to find anything at all on this topic!
Although I didn't try it on an N7000, I can confirm that removing the RTC-battery (someone in another forum stated that it actually is a capacitor) on a previously unbootable i9100 did allow me to boot up the device normally again. Would be interesting to know if leaving it out completely has any adverse effects...

yes, this will work ensure you remove li-ion battery(very nasty) and only 1-2 seconds very low wattage otherwise you will crack the LCD then have even bigger problems, worked on iphone

came up that way i hit htc my bad
Bad Kernel? Bad Radio? What?
I've used quite a few different ROMs. (Enom, Kang [CM], MIUI, and most recently, Rodriguezstyle's miui.)
But, the problem keeps happening, despite wiping between each ROM.
is it the radio? or the kernel? I think it might be, but I'm fairly certain I have the right kernel...and I upgraded my radio when I went to Froyo...
Gah.
I dunno about the kernel, but from what I've heard, if you have the wrong radio your n1 will be bricked. So I guess it's not the radio.
It's not a problem, I've been living with it. It's just rather annoying...
Maybe it's an app I have installed? Or things aren't...done right? Augh idk.
Change the Kernel and that will fix it, pershoot's worked the best for me.
Do you have to pull the battery when it reboots?

if your nexus is still less than a year old, get a new replacement device
watch the logcat output (adb logcat), and also kernel messages http://bootloader.wikidot.com/linux:android:kmsg

Not that I'm aware of. I don't even have setcpu installed anymore.
So unless the roms themselves overclock, then no. I upgraded my
kernel, but it has done a random shut off once since then. But it's
not that often. Not as often as it was at least.
Do you have more than one battery to try? My phone locked up or randomly rebooted several times a day when I was using Cyanogen 6rc1, but it only did it with one battery and ran fine with the other. The problem went away after I updated CM though.
My theory is that my "bad" battery is damaged slightly enough that it conflicted with something particular in that rom (also happened with 3-4 different kernels). I don't know anything about batteries, but if that's accurate, I don't see why a battery couldn't be damaged enough to conflict with all roms.
It doesn't sound like your problem exactly, but might be one of the simpler things to try, especially if you have a spare or could borrow one or something.
Try to extract the SD-card and Power ON the phone without it. If the phone works
well in that condition, problem solved.
Something like this happens to me one time, all I do was to format the entire SD-card
in my iMac with the Disk Utility, filling all the space with zeros (0) for be sure all the
data was erased correctly. Then I make the partitions again, flash a ROM and all
is fine now.
Good luck!
I had the same problem. Phone would reboot during many tasks. This would happen with any ROM even stock. I sent the phone to htc and they changed the motherboard under warranty. I noticed it first started to happen with robo defense and then other apps such as YouTube or browsing the net. I wasn't able to use the phone while it was charging or it would reboot.

This is my suggestion as well. A friend of mine had this problem. There was a corrupt video on his sd card that caused the entire issue.
Ok i know there is probably something already out there but im REALLY FREAKING OUT. I updated to 1.8 and throughout the day it killed my battery and i got home and was gonna flash back to 1.5 and while RSD was flashing it failed. I then realized i forgot one of the most important steps... To have a full battery.. i think my phone died while flashing... is it bricked? If so im f************cked... please respond.
If i did brick it, is there anyway i can contact moto support and get a new device?
Edit: I unplugged it from my pc and pulled the battery and plugged it back in. My pc recognizes it as a USB Mass storage device... is there still hope for me?
Ok so after sitting here for a while my phone booted back up i did notice that RSD lite managed to create a image thing? Idk what that is so im just guessing that maybe thats what saved me cause i could have sworn i read that it would for sure brick your device. Run on sentence. Spare me grammar Nazis. Anyways the phone is back up and running and you can be damn sure im going to charge this all the way before i try anything like that again. thanks for the quick responses and sorry for making a new thread for this... feel like i spazzed out if a mod could remove this thread?

I cant answer the other question because I dont know, but if you have insurance or whatever its called on your phone if it really does turn out to be bricked then you could have it replaced using that... (from what I heard if you do have that you only get like 1 or 2 replaces before they wont let you do it again for the year just an fyi)
and I mean insurance through AT&T not moto

Charge the battery fully and turn it on. Try reflashing the sbf and see what happens.

Have you tried letting it charge on mains for a while? Might get charge and be able to flash.

I would first try and re-flash it... but if it does not work then I leave that up to you and your conscious about getting insurance for it after its already messed up and stuff... but I would suggest even if you do get it to work, you may want to invest in that if you plan on doing a lot of developing on it or anything like that, which gives you a chance to brick your phone.
It's not rooted and doesn't have anything on it. Pretty much stock. Sent a text msg this morning and checked my email from it. Came back to it abt 20 minutes later and it won't even turn on. Tried charging it. Won't turn on. Tried swapping with my regular battery (which was fully charged when I put it away. It could be dead by now.). Nothing. Tried removing the battery, waiting, replacing the battery. Nothing. I did briefly get the M Dual Core icon and then all went blank.
Suggestions?

I second this.
Without going through the pain of returning it, would you be able to connect it to your computer, and reflash the (is it TRZ?) file through the new RSD Lite through the stock bootloader? Definitely worth a try.

Thanks, all.. Hauled my cookies 30 minutes over to Verizon. The sales rep assumed I hadn't bothered to charge my phone. When he realized it wasn't the battery, he was extremely helpful and replaced the phone on the spot. He said he'd never seen that before and with a phone less than 1 month old, I shouldn't have those kinds of issues. Kudos to Verizon for a pleasant experience. I've had some bad experiences in the past, but this gentleman was helpful and didn't try to sell me any accessories! ;p (They always try to sell me something when I'm there.)

This is referencing what one would do if the software had an issue, if it does this will fix it but kinda sounds like hardware. I have returned my Bionic to stock twice its fairly easy, computer does almost everything. Here is this to get you going if you wanna do it.

Just remember, phone has to be in fastboot mode to be detected by RSD Lite and once its detected and the file starts flashing, if it seems like its not making progress while saying otherwise, dont unplug it just wait

One would need the ability to turn the phone on in the first place for this to be attempted. That's why no one was mentioning the FXZ.
The phone booted to the dual core M logo, which with myself that happens to be as far as mine would go when i successfully flashed my FXZ. The phone needs to boot to the fastboot screen which can be done on many occasions that the phone can get to the first logo, as long as there is battery left.
....
But congrats on the new replacement i just saw that after i posted

It hasn't happened to me but I have to pull the battery on my wifes Bionic at least once a week and twice in one day. It would just go away suddenly and act like it was dead. I may return it for a replacement.
if anyone has exchanged their Bionic for a replacement because of the BSOD defect, will you please provide feedback in this thread? thanks
hi all:
just bought a bionic off ebay for cheap ($20 + free ship) but it has problems
it was being sold as "battery with water damage but phone is not but wont power on"
he said one night he left it in his drawer and when he woke up it didn't work anymore he tried removing battery and all that.
to my understanding the battery was previously water damaged and he could still use it and then got the wont power on later on.
anyhow to my question
the phone comes today with just the phone, water damaged battery and wall charger.
should I cut the end off the charger and do the wires to the battery and insert battery into phone and plug usb cord from laptop to the phone?
isn't this the correct way for bsod and a non water damaged battery?
is there anyway to test the waterdamaged battery to see if it could still be good?
I have a multimeter

Wow...this is indeed a bit worrying if it just died like that...
I'm not really that experienced, to be honest, I usually managed to fix things by putting it into download or recovery. I'm afraid that if even the JIG fails, then your only possible next step would be the Samsung service...hoping that the repairs cost less than a new actual device.
You can tell them something went wrong while updating through Kies, as I heard other people suggest, though I don't really know how well that would hold upon closer inspection...
Do you have an externel wall charger jsu tto make sure its not the battery not charging properly

Sssoorry to keep this thing going, but...I'm really curious about what on Earth could've happened *just like that*? I'm at my 3rd Android phone, had custom ROMs on everyone of them (now on imilka's CM9) and...I always figured that if they work now, they'll always work as long as I don't do anything stupid like flash an S2 firmware. Never imagined that the phone would simply refuse to turn on at one point...
Obviously, I think there had to be something in either the file system or partition system or...I don't know that changed and messed things up. Had some tricky situations with my Ace and with my Note as well, but got out of them with either recovery, or, at worst, download mode...
Maybe someone with a lot more knowledge about developing and ROMs might help me understand how/why things could go wrong like that
