[Q] Problems while downgrading CM10.1 to Stock Gingerbread - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I want to downgrade my phone from CM10.1 on an original Gingerbread ROM. First I have flashed a 2.3.4 version of DarkyRom. Now I want to have a stock firmware for my Galaxy.
All files that I could find were damaged. (Unpacked with 7ZIP and WinRAR). Then I found a T-Mobile branded version 2.3.6, but I hung permanently fixed in Bootloop.
What version can you recommend me and can you give me a three-part firmware?
Thank you very much
greeting
Julian

Hey,
Just checking, did you flash in a file called dbsdata.rfs.tar? That fille is essential when downgrading from CM9/CM10/10.1 because of different data partitions and so on. If you don't flash it in the phone ends up in a bootloop...
Try flash in dbsdata.rfs.tar (you can get it from so many places) then flash it in via Odin, then report back
Hope I helped

Nope due to partition format and layout changes. No new ROM uses the Samsung format or layout

[Q] A question about flashing firmware, easy for you guys :)

I've read on some forum that I should not flash an arabic firmware until I flashed an english one.
I have on my phone JPJP4, I would like to upgrade to JPJPG. So according to what I've heared, I have to upgrade to some other english version before I can think of flashing the arabic-supported version.
Aren't firmwares supposed to erase everything and start over?
I mean, my understanding is a firmware Is a system by itself, it doesn't need another operating system to rely on.
When I install a windows XP on a PC, I don't need any OS to be there!
Can someone give me some insight on this.
thank you.
why don't you upgrade to jpy most roms are based on that firmware version

I am considering upgrading to JPY (but I don't think it supports arabic?)
but that's not the point, I was asking is the statement mentioned in the thread true or false?
why would someone say DO NOT upgrade to an arabic firmware unless you upgraded to an english (i.e. european) firmware first??
so my last question is, is it safe for me to upgrade directly from JHJP4 to XXJPY? is it safe to change firmwares randomly whether it was an upgrade or a downgrade??
as you are going to switch the firmware you should install wipe version and disable lagfix ...... post here what rom do you want to flash and i will check if you need to pre-install english firmware... (i don't think it's needed but i will check)

I was thinking of flashing JPY, then darkyyy's rom. The I discovered that JPY doesn't support arabic. The half-solutions out there are not enough.
So anyway, now I'm going to flash JPJPG, then I'm gonna try darkyyy's (I know darkyyy's doesn't support arabic either, but the firmware JPG does). what do you think?
But here's my original question, why would I ever flash an english firmware before flashing another 'firmware' that supports other languages? aren't they ALL samsung official firmwares??
thank so much for your reply.
i don't know but i think it is not necessary ...... but if you could post thread where you have read it i could
check it

No, your phone doesn't get locked if you flash a new rom. I recommend you to flash the latest rom from sammobile.
Download something newer from samfirmware. And do you want custom rom, or just newer?
U can upgrade to gingerbread first, then u can use many custom roms try downloading latest version of firmware for ur region from sammobile..

Any love for us with Korean versions?

I've tried to do a bit of deserving to see if anyone had rooted a Korean 8.9 but haven't seen anything yet. Could probably find pity in a Korean forum but my Korean had a long way to go Just looking for some advice. I don't want to messed around if I can't even find a stock ROM to go back should things go wrong.

oh man!I bough one,no proble,.here's some of my experience:
Shv-e140L cannot flash rom for AT&T version or P7230 version
You can root and install CWM by using P7230 kernel (read the tutorial)
Backup before doing anything
Kies if you need stock rom! follow my instruction:
- Connect Tab with kies to update 4.0 firmware
- download firmware
- when the download finished, go to the folder: C:\Users\[ur user name]\AppData\Local\Temp\Binary\SHV-E140L\LGT\KR
- Copy the zip file and extract it you will have ICS stock rom (.md5)
- Flash this rom if tab is bricked
P/s:do it before doing anything
Cool, thanks.
Just so I am clear, in your steps, you said "update firmware to 4.0" and "download firmware" I take it you meant "download firmware to be installed(i.e. Cyanogen...)".
Also, in order to update to 4.0 firmware, I am a little confused. I just recently received my first firmware update from Samsung last week. When you say firmware, do you mean Android version? I only have 3.2 and there are no further updates for my device I see.

Also, can you still use the DMB for watching TV? Would still like to keep that option.

Firmware means you can unbrick your tab by odin(named UH02 for 4.0 version) ,not the update pack! That firmware is base on ICS.

Want to root my Samsung Galaxy s3 4G confused

Hello all,
I have read many posts about rooting the phone above but am confused.
All i want to do is root the phone and keep the original rom.
If i root it then update to 4.1.2 jellybean when its released for my phone do i have to root it again?
I really need to know step by step the process so i dont mess it up.
Firstly i beleive i need to backup my iemi is this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1946915 the correct procedure?
I then save that file it generates incase i need to restore is this correct?
I was then going to use this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1125414 but am confused where it says "Flash an Insecure Kernel before using Samsung Quick Root".
Where do i find an insecure kernal for the above phone?
I then read about ClockworkMod Recovery what does this do and should i use it?
Can someone please help me step by step as im really new to Android.
Sorry for so many questions but coming from years having an iphone to Android its like wow.
Cheers and thanks in advance.

Obagleyfreer i read this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=32235061&postcount=1 and unsure of part 13.
I want to root but just keep the standard rom that the phone came with.
Also if i update to 4.1.2 jellybean do i need to backup and root again?
You just need to flash the zip that's linked in part 13 to get root access.
You do this in CWM recovery.

Thanks Obagley.

Hi
Seems like you ar pretty novice to this.
If you root you cant update to latest from Settings -》About -》 Update. Root makes it imposible that way.
Instead you have to flash the latest rom from www.sammobile.com using Odin (windows) and rootvit again.
Or you wait till some one kind pre roots the rom and makes it flashable through Clockworkmod (easiest way)
All the strange words you have to look up your self.

Ok i check www.sammobile.com and i dont see a version of 4.1.2 jellybean for my phone.
Will the international versions of 4.1.2 work on my phone?
Will they have bloatware or carrier logos?
When i flash a rom do i have to flash the modem as well?
Can i just flash rom over rom or should i clean the cache first?

Its not released yet for every country. I dont find it for sweden either.
And you can expect the same thing from updated rom as the rom you are on now.
The roms from sammobile is only for your country becaus it contains the proper modem and apn info for your country and carrier.
As I said before best way to get a rooted and neat rom is letting the experts in xda compile a version that is flashable through cwm.
Look in the description if modem is included.
