Hi guys, so recently Google announced that they will be dropping support for active exchange. I'm a little confused as to what the implications are, but from what I understand, active exchange is responsible for syncing google contacts.
I have two accounts set up on my wp8, a Hotmail and a google account, and whenever I create new contacts I always save them to google...just because it's my primary email. But now i'm wondering, when Google finally flips the switch, will I have to say byebye to all of my contacts saved to google?
If so, whats the easiest way of moving my contacts to Hotmail, or doing a backup of all my contacts to outlook.com/Hotmail?
Thanks!

Ok so I've had my Kaiser for a few days now. Apparently you have to have outlook to sync contacts from your pc. Well I have a CSV file full of my contact from my old phone. BUT i don't have outlook. I don't want to buy outlook. I have outlook express, windows contacts. (I don't see why i have to buy outlook but whatever). So I found an alternative to outlook, Google Sync. Seems to work ok. I just had to fully update my contacts on google. ANYHOW does any use this to sync contacts? If so is there a way to push contact updates from phone to Google contacts. I only seem to be able to push contacts from Google to my phone. Thanks.
NICE, is this done online?
Is it done online? It uses exchange server. It takes your google contacts and syncs them to your phone. But what happens if you add a contact to your phone? I don't think it updates your Google contacts, or at least I can't figure out how. Seems kinda pointless if you cant sync contacts both ways. But what else is someone supposed to do if they don't have outlook?
I use Google sync and the contacts transfer from my phone back to Google and vice versa. It's only the contacts saved on my phone though, not the SIM.
hi i have a problem here
I use to save new contacts in the HD7, assuming it will update the HOTMAIL contacts database when i sync the account
but now I look that it doesnt sync the contacs to my HOTMAIL account and also it erase the contacts (from HD7) that i dont have in the HOTMAIL account
how do i can solve this?
i mean, i dont want to be updating HOTMAIL contact list one by one....
WP7 is starting tu upset me
Is hotmail the only email account you have it set up for? Exchange, Gmail, anything like that?
Either way, go to Setting --> Email and Accounts -->Windows Live and see what is set up to sync.
I have 2 hotmail accounts one for the contacts that i dont use for email
and one for the email...
but in no one update the contacts...
in the "primary" (Contacts) one... it only have the option to sync email

When you Edit a contact, it should give you an option to choose which account the contact you want to edit is from, provided that you have multiple contacts linked up and sync'd to multiple accounts.
If you only have 1 account that sync contacts, your phone should automatically be editing that contact on that 1 account, and it should update to the server almost immediately.
If you have no accounts that are syncing contacts (including no initial Windows Live ID tied to the phone), then your contacts will save to your device.
At least thats how it is supposed to be working.
I've never had any issues syncing to my Hotmail Contacts account. It has worked flawlessly since day 1.
I've never had a any luck syncing contacts to my hotmail account. I even lost 75% of them cos i got frustrated and decided to flash my phone regardless.
My friend uses hotmail to sync his contacts and he was saying yesterday something about him having to log on to his hotmail account on a desktop pc before his contacts would sync. I'll try and find out more about what he meant cos it didn't make much sense to me.
I use my gmail account to sync contacts now and I must admit it's been flawless. ever contact I create on my phone gets synced to my gmail account. Who'd have thought that would work better than MS's own hotmail?
Hi,
Previously I was using a Dell Streak and I was able to disable contact syncing with my Google accounts.
Actually I have 2 google accounts and I wanna sync only contacts with one of them.
On Galaxy Note , I couldn't find the setting to disable contact syncing with one account.
How can I do that ?
thx.
Hi,
I really need a solution for this because I've duplicate contacts now.

Go to contacts--Options--More--Accounts
Select the account you dont want your contacts to be merged from. Uncheck "Sync Contacts"
Hope that helped.

thanks. that option disables further sync of contacts from that account but it didn't delete the contacts coming from that account.
How can I delete existing contacts of that account ?
Also, I need the similar for calendar. Is there similar option ?

All'ite. Why don't you do this?
At this step you have disabled syncing your contacts to an account;lets call that account GAcc2. Lets call the account that you would like the contacts to be synced/Displayed from as GAcc1
Now you want to delete the contacts that have been synced from GAcc2.
So Go to Contacts--More--Display Options--Accounts and select contacts to be displayed only from GAcc2(i.e. uncheck the contact boxes for GAcc1). After this step the contacts that are displayed are only from GAcc2(the one you don't want). Simply select all the contacts and delete them. So this means we deleted "ONLY" GAcc2 contacts.
After this step again go to "Display Options" and under accounts select GAcc1.
and voila you will have only GAcc1 contacts left.
Do the same with calendar.
Hope that helped.
Cheers.
thank you. that's a good idea.
But when I delete from my Note, is there a risk of deleting them from Google acct GAcc2 ?
Also, some contacts are coming from both Google accounts. When I delete them, will I lose them from both accounts ?
And, how can I do that for calendar ? I can't find the correct app...
thx
Keep Auto Sync off, that will niether sync mail/contact/calender, when you need to sync it manually, just press on desire item n it will sync for that time only.
Further Now you can get Gmail with setup of Email application separately.

No that would be not an issue. Remember at that step you would have switched syncing to GAcc2 as "off". Just make sure you don't click "Merge with google".
If you are really scared and want to be backup proof i would suggest this;
I'm sure you would be having windows installed with Microsoft office. Microsoft office would have an app called microsoft exchange. Create a dummy account in exchange with a local Dat. Then go to google and search for tools to copy google contacts to exchange. There are plenty. Once you are done with that you would have a backup of your contacts. Similarly there are plenty of tools to do the reverse as well i.e. Microsoft Exchange -->Google server; this way you can restore it too.
Regarding the calendar its the same thing bro.
Browse to Settings-->Account and Sync--> select the account that you dont want calendar to be synced from-->Uncheck 'Sync Calendar'
Hope that helped.
Cheers.
Using Exchange Server with Android, without Google Contacts but with Market
THis post intended for people who use Exchange
Using Exchange Server with Android, without Google Contacts but with Market
To prevent your Google Accounts showing up in an Exchange Server minded device, uncheck autosync.
Create your Exchange account first, sync
Uncheck autosync
disable Wifi (your device must have slow connection)
Then add your google account.
Press Sync, but be DAMN fast to go to the account settings and quickly
uncheck the Contact,Calendar.
This way, you can have a fully Exchange server minded device, without
any junk from Google Downloaded, with Market access.
Running fresh install 2.2 on captivate - I've spent the last several hours trying to find a way to sync the captivate with outlook... and nothing is coming up as a reliable & cheap way. I would have never thought that a modern(ish) phone would have issues syncing with outlook. Never had a problem from the old 8125 up to iphone 3gs... but thought I would check with y'all to see if anything less than $50 has come up that would do the trick. I've tried Kies/MyPhoneExplorer(didn't see outlook calendar data except holidays and recurring events). I don't want to mess with google calendars and I live by the calendars for scheduling business! Any recent developments I should look in to?
Android and Outlook have generally never been close friends. There are a few paid apps you can find that do a very good job of keeping your information in sync.
If your business uses exchange you can set up your exchange account in the e-mail app on your phone and it will allow you to sync you mail, calendar and contacts.

Unfortunately my work is my business of me, myself, and I - so I haven't popped for an exchange server, but the frustration is almost close enough to just look into getting one done - and I've had a hard time finding an ap that syncs outlook and respective contact fields properly with the phone. I understand it's a google vs. MS deal and so they don't want to make it an easy one.... but it's a stupid idea since it will just push people to use iPhone, IMO. For now, I've relented to having to clumsily use google sync and the google calendar program to sync between to two. I just hate having middlemen to have to do it.
I use Kies 1.5.3.10093_80. I hear the newer versions are blocked from working with the captivate, but the older version works find for syncing w/outlook on my home system.

I use Google Calendar Sync and GO Contact Sync Mod. My ISP uses Google Apps for email etc... They were both free and work well.

I use the same apps, to keep contacts and calendar sync. For the E-Mail I just configure in Outlook the Gmail account as IMAP. The only drawback is with the custome field in google that Outlook can't handle.
The simple question would be: what's the best way to sync all my GMail and phone contacts and have them be accessable through both platforms? How do you organize your contacts?
The more detailed explanation is as follows:
I use GMail a lot and have many contacts saved on my gmail.
I also have roughly 400 contacts (phone numbers only) saved on my HTC One.
What's the best way for me to sync the two? Some of the GMail contacts are also contacts on my phone.
I tried playing around with the sync options but ended up transfering ALL past e-mailed contacts to my phone. For example, I've e-mailed college professors 5 years ago one time about class and somehow their e-mails were synced to my phone as new contacts. It was a mess to clean that all up. And how would I prevent future e-mailed contacts from being saved to my phone?
At the moment the phonebook on my HTC One is set to only display contacts from my phone itself (so I don't see the contacts from GMail).
Move all your contacts to Google: https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0/?tab=Cm#contacts
That way it will backup your contacts as well as sync them to any device with your Google account.
Personally I have my phonebook set to only show Google so I only see these contacts.
additionally, do all your contacts cleanup in your pc browser on your Gmail account
