****ty, not really. But I can't help you with it. FWIW @cmsrc lists what has changed.
We will be at 1000 pages in no time. Thanks for starting this.
off hand there was some camera stuff in the latest
Time for me to start flashing..
Thanks for these. I've been enjoying them.
Does anybody know why the new market isn't in the gapps?
Just wondering...

Any chance of screen shots or perhaps some detailed information about what features are included in this build?
ok who install live a feed back please
Its the same as alpha2 but with cyanogenmod settings. Runs good. Just make a backup and try it out if you wanna see how it runs. Its been very stable for me
Sent from my Nexus S using Tapatalk
still waiting on battery %. other than that this rocks. Any idea when the build will include a custom kernel?
i was glad to see cyanogen settings. still waiting for the submenu to change the statusbar. I always liked showing signal numbers instead of signal bars.
Been running these for a day now, very stable. Love having cm settings back, especially lockscreen options and music controls.
Great having the invisible slide unlock. Remember pervert power from a while back?
What exactly do the build numbers designate? Are there differences between each build? I flashed #24, but am just looking to see if 25 or 26 have anything different to offer.
I'm also enjoying these...
Torch FC's - other than that, its very stable.

yea, cm builtin torch doesn't work but other 3rd party apps work fine. I can't wait for them to get the notification bar options rolled out.

Not on the included kernel as that's not really the point of the Alpha builds. Although I have never done it myself, my understanding is that basic OC kernels are easy to make if you feel so inclined. Not really sure what you hope to gain other than benchmark scores; I have yet to find any situation where a 1Ghz Hummingbird is bottlenecking performance.
already about 5 ics roms not counting the cm9 alpha, why??
they all have the same bugs
they all have the same things working
super ics kangorama?

ultimate ics?

koush's + some extra wall papers + file explorer
all these things are just a completely alpha ics build with some hacks thrown in.. why?? why not just make a post in the ics thread (either by kwiboo or koush) saying "hey guys use launcher pro if you feel its buggy" or "here is link to glados kernel" instead of making "New ultimate sweet fast ICS rom" when all you are doing is downloading one of the actual source built ics roms and opening it with 7zip and dropping in a new boot.img in there then asking for donations :/

It is no different than the numerous GB/CM based ROMs. Who cares?

I think that He ( OP ) won't be happy until they say Beta.. its alpha for a reason. so many bugs much more than beta. just sit happy with GB and give it time. I rushed it and lost the ability for Google Wallet, nothing can fix what went wrong with my phone.

these people couldn't be taking part in a hobby for them, could they be just trying to learn the ins and outs of android, heck they couldn't even be kids learning to code and all are getting excited to show off what they complied.
Last time I checked you were not required to flash every rom in the Dev section. So lets take a step back I don't like miui nothing wrong with it but should I be complied to start a thread asking why we have topics about when I don't care for it.

Chill out. We have to get AOSP working bug-free in the first place, then they'll start looking different. Even CM9 doesnt have any CMsettings or anything special. We're sorry that something that we're beating Google at (ICS release for NS) currently is not to your standards.
In due time.....in due time.
I see where the OP is coming from, but I disagree. The fact that the devs work hard to bring the OS to our devices is pretty appreciated. They pretty much do Google's work for free by modifying the code.

lol im not mad that they are all buggy, im mad that people are "deving" with a buggy base and just adding to it. why not be a little patient, if you cant create it/build it from source, wait til the base you will be using to 7zip and copypaste into your rom becomes stable. dont use an alpha build to promote your name

I don't think you quite understand how it works currently. There is no buggy base. They're attempting to adapt AOSP source code to compile and execute correctly on the Nexus S. This is way more complicated than you think. Almost all "bugs" you see are byproducts of tinkering with configurations, compile-ations, etc, in an attempt to get it working properly.
To put things in perspective, ICS development for the Nexus S is light years ahead of all other devices. For that reason alone, we should be grateful. Others are still struggling to either boot, or get somewhere AFTER boot.
If you don't like the way it's done, then wait for the official ROM. You have a choice, after all.

yes, two roms are getting built from the source on xda; kwiboo and koush. then all the others.
both kwiboo and koush thread is full of bug reports of people using a different rom like brainmaster, ultimate ics, kangorama ics, etc.
all this does is add confusion from the rom chef adding things to the original rom developers work
what im suggesting/ranting is that if a rom chefs should be a little more patient in making more spinoff roms that don't really add much besides to confusion for noob users
Your argument makes a LOT more sense now. I agree, if people are posting bugs in Koush/Kwiboo sections when running brainmaster or other tweaked versions, then that's bad.
Your original argument didn't really point this out.
Not much can be done about that, aside from aggressive moderation. Tweakers will be tweakers.

Most of the bugs posted are not even valid. One in particular is known issue even on the GNexus.
The biggest issue I see is code optimization at this point.
One thing I think no one has mentioned is ICS may never be super fast on the NS. I will be much faster on dual core hardware

This is one thing that has been bothering me as well. Every single one of these ROMs are not truly as smooth as Gingerbread. In no way do they even reach the fluidity found in Gingerbread ROMS. The hardware acceleration helps, but even then you can still feel the difference between the two Android releases. I have yet to hear a proper explanation as to why this is happening and I was hoping that the fix for this would be Google releasing the official Ice Cream Sandwich update.
Is it is code optimization as you say? Or is there more to it than that? I want to believe that hardware doesn't play a significant role here.

Agree 100% no released rom before ota is even out is worth running.. I ran koush or w/e and it worked but felt like I was holding a brick.. ruff! Brainmasters straight looks like android donut.. but so does cyanogens.. no disrespect to any of the above.. but htcclay is god..

Strange, I've found that Koush's latest (CM9 Alpha 11) is plenty fast, not significantly slower than GB. Definitely Kwiboo v2 was slow as molasses, but then again it came out days ago (a long time when it comes to how fast things are moving). BM v5 is pretty fast but buggy. Also, it seems that adding franco kernel to any of these also speeds things up significantly, but I haven't tried it with CM9 Alpha 11 yet.

I found kwiboo's to be a lot more stable than koush's. although koush's had more functionality.. my bluetooth didnt work, and i got many errors.
Understand that we are using old binaries. ICS will run just as good as gingerbread, if not, better. These will make a world of difference

I'd kind of disagree with this. In its current early state here on the NS, I've gotten it running butter smooth and highly responsive, on a 1.1 OC/UV kernel. This is WITHOUT tweaks to filesystem, etc. If certain apps would just display properly when GPU Rendering is turned on, and some battery stuff worked out, I'd be 100% content.
Now granted, I've seen it running on the SGS2 and Galaxy Nexus and they're clearly speedier, but in my experience, my apps run just as fast as they did in GB.
On a side note....wanna see slow? It's been ported to the T-Mobile G1! HA! The first, original android phone!
I agree. there was actually a recent article on android police about this. There is no problem with people making their own roms but don't clog up the development section with "roms" that really all they do is bundle some easily downloadable market apps and some wallpapers and call it a new rom.
What the SGS2 xda forum actually did was split the dev section into 2 . One for original dev work and one for spin offs.

You really think you are all high and mighty now huh? I've taken a look at your posts before and after you made your kernel, and let me tell you something: there is a big difference in the attitude of the posts. It's like the fact that you have developed something gave you a sense of authority. There is no excuse for you to be disrespectful.
Are you bored to death? No one asked you to post here. No one asked for your opinion. If you are bored, leave. I am not a fan of themed roms, but your posts just sicken me.
Its looks good, but a few advises to convey
1) Name the thread "[ROM] Spring Rom [GB 2.3.3 v20c]"- This would look more formal and attractive
2) Add more info about the mods & tweaks you implemented
3) Don't listen or care for anyone who criticizes
I guess you have used Zeam (One of my favourite Launchers)
and also i love the default GB settings icons
I couldn't say that i will try it, sorry because i'm more into graphical customisations. But would like to advice every stock GB lover to use this ROM

First of all a superb effort on this one Anil
Havent replied on xda since a long time...but somehow had that urge to test something new and so tried this one.... And yes rightfully said... amongst all the High Fi stuff of 2.3.7 and ICS, somehow the stability is being overlooked as nightlies have come into picture.... almost every other day we have the beta updates of tons of ROMs... most of those being just the customisations of the major ones... The actualy ones are just three... LOL the ICS port, CM7.2 nighlies and the Oxygen port.... So many versions and so less to try...
Maybe im being old school but i liked the development when the REAL devs published something...that too taking their own time...coming up with REAL updates and not just simple things like fixed headset icon etc.. Mik, Knzo, Franco, Andy....miss their work dearly....and at the same time i do appreciate the efforts of the new frotiers like Popdog and the other guys developing on P500...!!!
To sum it up id say, Good work done to provide just the nessesary customisations and at the same time keeping the ROM stock..... I am using it since a few hours now and everything seems to be working well.. No bugs or performance lags...would report aout the battery in maybe a day or so..
P.s.: Modification, be it of a line or an entire re-write of a code is still a modification. So unless he's asking u for paying his internet bills, stop criticizing each and everything around u.. He didnt steal ur code or modification did he..?? Its sometimes good to just avoid trolling where u are not needed
Thanks Parth.

Naughty version uploaded specially 4 you.

Howdy.
Took advantage of the latest google offer to get myself a Nexus 4 - my Razr i just had literally no development and a lot of apps wouldn't even run due to x86 architecture! Arggh!
So anyway, mine is arriving soon (hopefully) and I'd like some pointers on what to check out first - Cyanogen is always worth considering of course
I mainly look for a good kernal to save me power but not skimp out on horse power when needed - a good deep sleep/idle function
Also a lightweight rom which is very snappy, I'm sure I'll find some roms to love based on the sheer amount of development on this section! Send your suggestions in and I'll be sure to check them out! :good::good::good:

Put it this way, i went from HTC desire where I could change roms weekly - finally settling on oxygen which was totally stock android and great
Then Razr i - it took 7 months or something to even get jelly bean, 0 roms and now we finally have like two to choose from? They are good in terms of i'm not a developer and i appreciate what they do, but both are riddled with bugs

Then Razr i - it took 7 months or something to even get jelly bean, 0 roms and now we finally have like two to choose from? They are good in terms of i'm not a developer and i appreciate what they do, but both are riddled with bugs

Well, you are going to enjoy the Nexus experience
Wellcome!
Saves me the hassle of creating a thread like this.
So I guess my nexus ( which will hopefully arrive later) will be getting PA.
Do I unlock the bootloader with "fastboot OEM unlock" to flash custom recoveries etc? I come from a HTC phone so forgive if this question sounds stupid to you

Glad it can be of help - i dont want to take away from other developers of roms, but a starting place is always handy especially considering the sheer amount of development this phone has!
Anyway, i'll be following this guide when I get mine
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yGZuxeTvWhY
or
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=n0In32vjxIg
I've never really liked PA because of the different modes (phone, phablet, tablet, etc) would make if hard to modify everything easily for me (but thats cause i dont like phablet or tablet modes, prefer stock phone style)... Im using crDroid and it runs great with purified kernel. Ive tried Vanir and that one also was pretty good
You should do what i did, flash a few and test them out. They all have different variations of features...

And you have them... PA, crDroid, and Vanir to start...
Welcome!
I love customizing everything, so from the beginning I was on AOKP. Loved it but i think it was a little heavier than necessary..
after that I used Xylon - ( now Uxylon) which was awesome, smooth and fast, plenty of features.. but its still 4.2.2, so I had to leave it behind eventually.
Currently I'm on Slim Rom Beta, 4.3 and I'm loving it. So give it a try!
Rocking Purity & AK kernel today and loving it
Most of the roms are good in their own way...
if you want speed or customization...
Slimbean is great and of course psx

You can also check a thread in general about a poll on which rom people are using. i mean, just based from that, you can have the number of nexus 4 users, what the best rom in common people use (you wouldn't know your best if you hadn't tried the others right?) and just a few mods also you can use that will give you what you want. Just have fun in the mako forum and all the best mate :good:
Rasbeanjelly and PSX are great if you are looking for a pure and latest AOSP experience.

Got the phone, unlocked, flashed latest pa and xposed. I'm very satisfied so far. My HTC one s didn't come close to this at all.
Now I have 2 questions. What's this JSS and JWW all about?
And can anyone recommend a kernel for PA?

Carbon
Enjoy!

TeamVanir presents
VANIR
Yeah, it's got a HEMI.
Vanir was founded on the premise of performance tuning Android. We are based on AOSP, but include features (many of which have been rewritten to be more efficient) from other ROMs.
Our webkit, chromium, and skia are aosp/master merged with codeaurora, with linaro fixes on top.
BY LINARO, I MEAN GLOBAL "-O3 -fstrict-aliasing".... we didn't just switch toolchains. Here at Team Vanir, WE GO HARD.
Features
stock mode - ability revert to stock AOSP code with the exception of a few custom features we chose to keep active
omniswitch
enhanced performance.. longer uptime with less slowdown
custom written CRON and init.d.
UI and graphics improvements
custom navbar, navring, and hardware key features
improved notification handling (active display & halo are in review also)
usability improvements like power reboot menu and sound
animation control
Improved Vanir keyboard
CM's profiles & quicksettings
additional quicksetting tiles
immersive mode
statusbar mods
clock & battery mods
lockscreen blur and other mods
soon to come -> quick cam and flash notifications
busybox, embedded root, init.d, cron etc
yatta yatta yatta

Good job in finding this rom but if this is not something on development or you are working on then this is a rom sharing which should be posted at the general forum instead i believe like all others are doing.

Ah Heeeelllll YEEAAHH!!!... Nice...Downloading this right now..
Update: So far all running smoothly. I highly recommend DHO's Gapps. They are VERY minimalist, no Gmail, no YouTube, no maps, pretty much only the play store. Anything you find missing you can download from the play store anyways and the apps wont be tied to the OS. Runs sweet so far, gonna use it as a daily driver for a few days and report back.

Vanir has been building for our family this entire year -- the nightlies are hosted on official Vanir servers -- and no one's known about it except xt907 guys. That's a major shame for all rom lovers and crackflashers. So I took it upon myself to be a good-faith "thread maintainer" and spread the word :good:
Let's be honest, bro, no one looks in General for roms. It's a graveyard there. These are official nightlies, and they deserve the respect of being in Development. If Team Vanir ever makes an official thread, I'll take this down.
Something I noticed on this rom,Carbon and Pac Roms is under the Preferred Network types,It never wants to stick with anything but GSM/WCDMA. Either in Auto or not,it changes back to that after you exit the screen. Even after I checked the "4636" dialer code,it never kicks to LTE even when I know im in a ATT LTE area.(was in San Antonio earlier today)..Is it just a Rom issue?

From what I know, its a CM (or aosp, can't remember) related bug and roms that use it as their base have this issue.

That's odd. I get LTE out of the box and the Settings Preferred Network is set to Global. I changed to GSM preferred without issue to boost battery life (H+ icon). ATT uses a weird APN for LTE, so it could be that. (I'm on Tmo.) Good luck!

OK,well been running Batakangs Stock based rom. Is there a fix for LTE on ASOP or CM? Ive only found a couple of roms based on Stock, kinda frustrating to loose LTE. Other than, this ROM is rock solid.Battery is drain is minimal. Deff a daily driver if someone could work out the LTE thing. Wifi tethering works too.
This would probably be my daily driver if only the battery life was better. I just like the feel of it. For now I've dropped back to validus.

I'm going to try this one. Thanks!
screenies??
It looks like Carbon ROM, clean KitKat style. It works really good, the only thing that I am noticing is the battery is lasting a little less than with Carbon, but it is still ok.
Apparently one of the developers of this rom has a personal version as well called Commotio. If anyone is interested here's the link to the builds http://www.emccann.net/dho/3-Vanir-mirror/4-nighties/. It seems to be more up to date as of this writing. I am currently using it and like it. Some of the things I've noticed so far are different navbar icons, more blue in the theme, added performance control app, themed torch app, and commotio boot animation.

No, you need to check the name of the folder, it's based on the date of the nightly. Then, when you enter, search for the one that ends with "moto_msm8960". That's the one for this phone. Example: "B65-Commotio-moto_msm8960".
OP updated to include Commotio builds. Thanks for the heads-up @governmentissuejoe.
Commotio is customized by Vanir member DHO and includes different themes/icons, settings organization, etc. It's the same core as Vanir - it just looks different.
If you want to increase battery life, I recommend installing arrrghhh's kernel and tweaking the settings. Wheatley is worth a try also.
