[Q] APN disappears after changing MNC - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I’ve recently changed my rom from cm9 stable to cm10 stable and Im having trouble configuring my APNs.
Basically Im on a spanish carrier (yoigo) that has the right to use another network (movistar) if their coverage isnt available. On CM9 I chose to permanently set my phone to use the movistar network because they dont block voip (unlike yoigo). All I had to do was remove the proxy and port and change the "authentication type" from "not set" to "none" in the APN settings, and then search for the movistar network and connect to it.
However in CM10, if I do the same then I can connect to the movistar network to make calls and sms but there is no data. Looking in the APN settings there are two options that I dont remember seeing before (in cm9) although I could be mistaken: MCC and MNC. If I try and change the MNC code from yoigo (04) to movistar (07) and then save, the entire APN disappears!
Any ideas what I can do? Thanks for any advice!

Sorry to bump this, but I can't find a solution anywhere and it's really annoying me. If my phone loses connection to yoigo, it connects automatically to movistar but loses access to a data connection. I'm pretty sure it's due to a conflict with the MNC code which I can't change.
Any help would be much appreciated,
Cheers

what worked for me download apn tweaker from market if no luck .
1 i flashed 10.2 re darkyrom
2 then alliancerom jw4
3 then alliancerom jw8

APN and supported proxy list?

Ok so my Lebanese network has 2 different APN.
The first one is Edge with proxy and port, the second one is GPRS without proxy and port.
Unfortunetly my subscription is with Edge but it seems that the proxy used is not supported by Nexus One so I can't connect to internet using it.
So is there an internal file in the Android system that we can modify to add supported proxies???
You can't edit it in settings > wireless and networks > mobile networks > access point names?
Yes but it looks like the Lebanese proxy is not supported, the network technicians told me to use mnc 03 but the whole APN disappear if I do that, perhaps there is a way to ''force'' the N1 to accept mnc 03.
This could do something like that? : http://code.google.com/p/cyanogenmod/wiki/APNlist
Android will only list the APNs which have the MCC/MNC code of the home carrier it is connecting to (presumably this is set on the SIM card). If you enter an MCC/MNC which does not match the one you're connected to, the APN will appear to vanish.
Have you tried entering the settings without modifying the MCC/MNC that the phone automatically inserts?
If I use mnc 01 it wil not vanish but it wont connect either!
I don't suppose your provider has multiple varieties of SIM card? Perhaps if they can transfer you to a SIM card which reports MNC 03 to the phone, then your APN settings will work properly.
I remember reading some people had trouble with the Fido APN on Android phones, and the solution was to get a new SIM because the older generation wasn't quite compatible.
So the possibility to have unsupported proxies is not the problem?
I mean Lebanon is not on the list of recognised countries by Google N1's website, the other data plan doesn't have a proxy in the settings that's why it can work.
Switching to the other data plan will cost me +15$ per month

I am not sure the proxy is the problem. I can enter a proxy into my Fido APN and it works. The "vanishing APN" problem is because they are asking you to enter an MCC/MNC which does not match your SIM card.

[Q] BSNL 3g settings in India

Hello can some one please post APN settings for BSNL postpaid in India? I am not able to find it online. I called them and they say they will send the settings but I am not receiving it for some reason. I think they are getting my model number wrong.

Follow this structure. Worked in my Note when I used BSNL.
I use Asylum V8 ICS.
Now,
1.Go to Settings.
2.Click on 'More' in 'Wireless & Networks' (You can find in your settings)
3.Click on Mobile Networks
4.Click on Network Mode : Choose GSM/ WCDMA Auto
4.Click on Access Point Names
5.In APNs Screen which opens. Go for Options, New APN.
6.Fill In:
Name: bsnlnet
APN: bsnlnet
MMS Protocol: WAP 2.0
MNC: 73
MCC: 404
Homepage (if you have any such option): m.google.com
Now, leave the rest blank.
Also unclick on: Use only 2G (Saves Battery)
Now reboot. And that's it. Jenga! Your Net should be set!
Now I don't know further since I am on Idea Cellular. I had used the BSNL Card for only a couple of days for stand by
Ok, give it a try !
Good Luck!
I tried everything and got fed up and just bought an airtel sim with a booster pack. I am just here for a 10 day visit and needed tethering and airtel seems to be the only one with a 4gb 3g data plan. Thanks anyways guys!

[Q] Why can't I save APN with MCC other than 262

Hi folks,
I'm running 2.24.161.1 (4.2.2) with vodafone branding.
My One cannot get APN settings from the provider, it never could, so I manually configured the APN for my default network, which works.
I was in Spain recently and I wanted to roam a little, but as my mobile cannot get the settings from the provider I tried to manually configure the APN again, this is where I ran into my problem.
I can create a new APN, I can change all settings as I need them and I can save it and activate it. However this only works as long as the MCC is set to 262. When I tried to configure MOVISTAR APN with MCC 214 and tried to save it the APN was just gone.
I don't get any errors or whatsoever. I can modify the APN and save all changes as often as I want, but trying to save an APN with MCC not set to 262 results in the APNs disappearance, its simply gone from the list. This also happens when I modify an exisiting APNs MCC value and save it - the APN will be gone from the list and I have to recreate it.
Is it likely to be a problem with the branded software version? I like the One as it is otherwise, I see no reason to unlock, root, flash other stock and thereby loose all my settings and reconfigure the phone again, but if that would solve the problem with foreign APNs I guess that is what I will do.
Anyone know what is causing this problem and how to solve it?
Regards
gimmeg

RAZR i APN Problem.

Hi, I have a problem with APN settings in my RAZR i. There is no APN list and every APN profile which I'm trying to save disappears. I assume problem causing old sim from VIRGIN Mobile Poland cause it has something wrong with MNC and MCC and Jelly Bean can't set APN if it can't read MCC and MNC from SIM. It should has MCC 206 and MNC 06 but phone can't read it. Strange thing is that when I used SIM from different operator but the same MNC and MCC list of APN's shown. The same thing was with Market Enabler, when I set 26006 APN's shows on my Virgin Mobile SIM but even after setting right APN phone couldn't connect to internet.
OFC it's SIM card problem cause T-Mobile and Orange working well so I asked Virgin to change sim card for some working with Jelly Bean but they say they don't have any other sim cards and not directly but something like F*** You, it's Your problem, not ours. I can change operator but Virgin has best offer for me at this moment but in the end I think it's the only way.
Maybe someone have some clue to trick system to read MCC and MNC right?? I used this card on Atrix stock 2.3.4 and CM10.1 and it' working fine and problem is only on RAZR i, tried 2 different roms and nothing - RTEN and RTEU.
Nvm anymore, I'm going to change my carrier in few days.
Maybe, are you in flightmode? Because in flightmode all apn's are disabled and invisible
No, I'm not. APN's not showing up cause android shows only APN's which match MCC+MNC from SIM card and when there is something wrong with my MCC+MNC it wont show any APN.

[Q] Switched to T-Mobile, No MMS over Wifi

Hello,
Normally I can find everything I've ever needed by searching here, but I was not able to find a solution to this one.
I just switched to T-Mobile from AT&T, and brought over my SM-G900A.
When I put the SIM in at first, I got voice and SMS, but no data. I looked up APN settings, and created a fast.t-mobile.com APN using the recommended settings, except for APN protocol. Data now works, but still no MMS unless I disconnect from WiFI
MMSC is set to http : //mms.msg.eng.t-mobile.com/mms/wapenc (no spaces)
APN Protocol is set to IPv4 (This is greyed out and cannot be changed to IPv6)
However, MMS only works when connected to data only, not WiFi. I cannot seem to find a way to make this work when connected to WiFi, which I would like to be able to do. Any ideas?
My thought is this might be related to WiFi calling being a native feature on T-Mo devices but not on AT&T. Thoughts?
Thanks guys!

Just because u switched to tmobile wont chang the software on the phone to tmobile even ur software updates to the phone will come from att not tmobile. I always have to have data on to send mms. I could be wrong but i think thats whats going on

You can achieve WiFi calling and Texting which will send MMS over WiFi by installing the alliance ROM. You first have to be on KitKat 4.4.4. After thay flash the ND3 kernal and install root via towel root, next install safstrap and flash alliance ROM and bam you should have WiFi calling and texting enabled. I am currently on the at&t s5 using T-Mobile.
I may have the links on my laptop if you need them. Just let me know.
Sent from my SM-G900A
