Don't pay anything.. if it's in warranty and perfect state then he can go to samsung and say that he wake up in the morning and the device don't starts ecen if he remove the battery and put in again..
..zapatalk..
yes, that was i was thinking...He has not so many knowledge of android world (otherwise he didn't flash wrong firmware...) so he was on warranty again...but...they will see that there is wrong firmware on it...or not?
What , you didn't bother to read what I posted in the JB firmware thread ?

The warranty cover soft and hard ware, so you dont have to pay.. i dont know how the law works there but here we dont pay.. read the warranty contract, if the contract say that samsung cover hard and soft then you dont need to pay anything.. thats how all warranty works.. now, if its like here, the carrier have a tecnic service, he can ask in carrier.. i.e., here in argentina when i buy a device i have the device warranty and carrier service, so if my device dont work properly i go for the carrier authorized service and repair for free without, i.e. samsung, intervention.. when that service warranty ends, like a year later i bought the device, samsung warranty acts..
do you understand me or my english is too bad?

hi all , i bricked my w8 and i send it to service the other day ...my phone got hardbricked and i cant find a solution ..so i asked my dad to send to to a repairman, at 1st the man said its a simple problem and can be fix in a day or two , so 2 days has passed and i asked my dad is my w8 fixed? my dad said the foreman has overlook and the problem is more severe ...so i got a little scare and i heard of this method called JTAG ..and i am just wondering does all repairman knows JTAG? i saw a vid and it looks dam hard. ..http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ujH_IpsskLg
so heres the details
model:w8
reason for brick:unlocking bootloader
phone age : 3weeks
As you can see in the video you linked in your post, or in the link I posted in the "bootloader unlock warning" thread, it requires ...
a) ... specialized hardware (RIFF Box + JTAG Interface or Qualcomm Resurrection Cable)
b) ... a solid knowledge about getting the hardware and related software to good use
In theory any trained service monkey should be able to do the trick, given the repair shop has the hardware to accomplish the job. A authorized SE service center has the required hardware, and trained technicians, for sure.
Anyhow ... to point the finger at the "unlock warning" thread ... now, once you get your phone back READ THE MANUFACTURING CODE of your phone CLOSELY and do NOT attempt to unlock the bootloader again if the phone is within the critical range.
oh..so most repairman knows how to repair a bricked phone yes ? =) ..but still if i am right it will not be covered by my warranty? and how much will it cost?

Why would you trick the repair man since it will not reduce the cost (i think)
erm..it's a retailer at a mall my dad bought the phone from...and if the retailer knows my phone is still under warranty wont the repair be free?

Hello,
The title is pretty straightforward. I ****ed up and bricked my GT-i9305 (International LTE). The touchscreen doesn't work, I tried very hard to fix it but couldn't.
Even with Triangle Away, I can't seem to be able to fix the counter. It doesn't matter, money isn't too much of a problem, I just want a phone that works.
So I have 2 questions :
- will Samsung repair a bricked phone without warranty ?
- how much will it cost ? (100$, 200$, more ?)
Thank you !

No >>>unless they do not see its been modified and with a bricked phone that is possible .

Cost depends upon what is required to repair .

The phone works perfectly except the touch screen. So it's still possible to access download mode, the phone menu etc.
I don't understand why they wouldn't repair the phone (while charging full price) since I'm a customer though.

Why not try repairing yourself with spare from eBay? Youtube has plenty of vids showing how to take phones apart. Its not difficult if you have a little patience and some small screwdrivers. Fixed the wife's s2 when orange refused to fix charging circuit even though known prob on internet, told me water damage which it wasn't....b******s!!!!
Good luck whatever you decide.

Ok guys i wanted to update my phone with Jelly Bean and as I don't have fast internet I submitted the device to Samsung Care. When i went to collect my phone The guys at Samsung care said that there were technical problems while updating the device which caused it to brick. Now they want to replace motherboard. I want to know will this replacement be free as i am well in my warranty period and have neither rooted nor tampered with firmware?
It might be free as it is the fault of the samsung guys which caused the phone to brick. It would be wrong on their part that they brick your phone and ask for money to repair it.

It looks like my phone is dead. I had it checked on repair store and they tried to reprogram and sort of downgrade the OS but unfortunately they weren't able to. Same thing happened. The second repair store said that the back panel has to be opened to check the internal of the phone but I didn't agree to do that.
I'm still trying to charge it today when I got home but still the same no LED light while charging. This is very frustrating as I spent a lot money to have this phone and didn't last for 2 months. Very disappointed. I will never, ever buy from an OL shop again. The warranty is void when I upgraded the OS as per the retailer so no replacement happened. Now I don't have enough money to buy a new one. Have to save up again and will take a couple of months to buy one.
Disappointment.

My mistake is I bought mine from an OL shop here in the Philippines, not from a Sony or Xperia store. I still love Sony, I still want a Z1 but to be honest right now I'm not that 100% sure if I'm gonna buy another one. Though there's no other option out there for me outside Sony aside from Apple (I guess).

You guys experimenting with different firmwares, and if you brick your phones you blame it on Sony ? I don´t know if is something like that there for Qualcomm chips but I liked on my Tegra devices that I could restore even a hard bricked device with Nvflash...

Looks like your boot partition has been wiped. That's where kernel is stored. Without kernel, your device won't boot, neither recognize any plugged in cable (USB to computer either Charger).
They're two ways to solve this.
Claim your warranty to change your motherboard.
Find someone who know to revive dead Xperia Z1.
Hope this help.
good luck bro

That is not true. Without a kernel you should still be able to boot into fastboot mode (bootloader) or into flashmode and be able to reflash your device.

JTAG the phone should work but it requires a pro and since it's a new phone I highly doubt that there's any one out there who can do that you might have to wait also you will lose warranty permanently since it requires them opening your phone and soldering. Or send to Sony and pay whatever price they ask for to get it fixed.

Man than I am sorry fot that, but in your case I would probably send it back to Sony repair center for a warranty repair. I don´t know how it is in your country but I think in every normal country is the manufacturer responsible for the warranty and not the seller, so you even don´t need to contact the company from where you bought your phone, just send it back to the nearest sony repair center and they will repair your device. And if its needed, then don´t say that the phone died after update, just say them that the phone died by itself from nothing...

Yeah man, that's what I will actually today. I'll go to the nearest Sony Service Centre and have it check. Yep I'd say that I haven't upgraded it yet to 4.3. Service fee would be fine since it's not from a Sony store. As long as it will be revived it's fine with me. That is actually my last hope.
Don't blame Sony for that.
First off all - Mercedes sometimes have faulty cars, of course Sony has too but blame whole system for that won't get you nowhere.
If you had flashed custom kernels or ROMs this things could happen...
For all others - if you aren't sure what are you doing don't try to unlock bootloader or root your device...
Wait for a few weeks/months and we'll have better solution...
All devs here warned you - 4.3 on Z1 is new and every ROM and kernel or root method is in test phase...
It's ridiculous to blame Sony for flashing custom stuff and brake you device...
If you haven't then there's no reason not to use your waranty rights...
No matter where did you bought your device you have to have waranty!

As per the man I talked to when I went into the store the warranty is voided when I updated my OS to 4.3. I can only use the service warranty if I don't do ANY modification of OS or whatever on the phone even if it's from PCC or SUS. Stupid policy.

Hi I just want to a inform you that today I just picked up my galaxy s5 from warranty for front camera problems and I was knox 0x1 and they replaced it with new imei and all.i was on xtrestolite with costume recovery but before I return it I flashed stock firmware.
so after all the procedure is done I asked to talk to the technician who saw my phone and asked him about the knox 0x1 warranty and told me that the 0x1 is like a safety for Samsung when they think that you have damaged it, they use the 0x1 to void the warranty, ex overclock or fried Wi Fi chip.
But if the damage on the phone is obvious that is not done by the user they ignore the knox 0x1 and they accept the warranty.
I didn't ask much because the fat manager was on his way and I could see the technician wasn't very comfortable seeing the manager aproaching so I said thank you and bye.
So that was a relief for me I was afraid they will refuse my warranty because of knox 0x1, and there I was playing it cool on the first 3 months about not caring about warranty

Yeah. In my country (Bangladesh), my galaxy s5 also repaired from Samsung customer care with knox triggered 0×1 times..
I am from Greece.
But I don't believe the instructions they have are for Greece service center only, I guess that explains why some had warranty success with knox triggered.
In the entire european union, samsung Will honour the warranty, no matters about KNOX being tripped or not.

Confirmed.
Some repair centers try to be funny. But as soon as you ask them to write down responsible person name and reason for repair refusal the KNOX thing is out of the window and device gets serviced.
Went to some Samsung courses and spoke with the guys there, one was from the mobile division and I asked him about Knox and he said that it's a gray area... He asked me what company imports it as it may have their own repair centers and I said that it was Samsung and he said: depends how curios and how much knowledge the guy who repairs it has...
Hi, I'm from Greece, bought the s5 from Vodafone Germany, from the very start i had some issues, like the power button, no matter how I was pressing it, it refused to pop up the menu of restart, close and whenever I could achieve to get it, the phone was locked and the menu did disappear and there I was again at the start, trying to restart the phone. But most annoying is that recently I got a serious screen problem that caused a non fuction phone and making it dead unable to use it. I had to remove several times battery, wait some hours until it could recover by itself, but only until next time within the day or the next day. I called Samsung Greece explained them its a absolutely hardware problem no matter that the Knox was triggered by me. I send it to them to check it and see if it is possible to fix it. But as you can imagine they refused my warranty because of the Knox. Its totally insane!!

I'd look further into that mate, EU law means that they can not refuse it because of knox being tripped. They would have to make a case that knox tripping damaged the phone.

[INFO][EU] Rooting and Flashing don't void the warranty
Does rooting your device (e.g. an Android phone) and replacing its operating system with something else void your statutory warranty, if you are a consumer?
I got my phone back, fixed by Samsung with no cost, they changed the power button which was not at all functionable and as long for the screen problem I had , they told me that it had been moved inside and all they did was to screw it properly once again. Any way they could have state anything and could asked any price for their service. I'm glad all went good although know 0x2
I sended my s5 on monday 9th and got it back today with new screen. I had knox 0x1 replaced on warranty and they also did software update. So knox 0x1 doesn't void warranty in Belgium.
Good to know all this, since I just 0x1'd my S5 the other day
I had problems of unresponsive black screen.. I took it to my carrier here in Mexico ( Iusacell ) My Knox was 0X1....they sent it to Samsung and after long wait of two weeks they gave me the phone back, they restored the software and cleaned the screen just to make sure that was not the problem. I knew it was not going to work but I wanted to give it a try. After 5 days of problems approximately around 10 to 20 times a day I went back to the store with the same issue and they gave me a brand new phone which has the mobo 1.100... I been using it for approximately 5 days and I have not had any problems so far.

At least in South America if u r KNOX 0X1 u can't do more than resign and start forgetting about the warranty haha
but there's always an alternative technician if the cellphone its not fully damaged :good:
Welp my warranty is cancelled, just got a call from them after I sent the phone for a earpiece malfunction... And they charged me 250$ as they said they need to replace the motherboard...

it must be mechanical damage
No it said that the technical team observed that there was an "unauthorized" software modification and I need to pay the motherboard and the kit replacement... I guess they wanted to replace the motherboard so it could set Knox back to oxo as I never dropped the phone or anything else. I took pretty good care of it.
