Hi, I own a SGS gt-i9000, and i rooted it with Z4root. I'm trying to update my android to the jellybean 4.1, with absolutely no success, this is due to my lack of experience with the android OS and clockwork mod and so on. I tried everything i could, nothing seems to work, first because the CWM doesn't work for GT-I9000 for some stupid reason, and second because, as I already said, i am a giant noob on this OS.
What I'm asking for is a simple way to upgrade to jellybean 4.1 OS that even a bloody rock can understand, sorry for the expression, but i'm really mad right now. My phone specs are:
firmware version: 2.2
I9000BUJP5
Kernel: 2.6.32.9 [email protected] #1
FROYO.BUJP7
Thanks in advance.
P.S. I have already read threads about doing the same but i failed to understand every thing.

Hey,
First times can be frustrating! Seriously, I got really mad when I was trying to put CM9 on my phone.
Easy steps? I'll try make it as simple as I can.
First, make sure you have your desired ROM on your internal SD, and Gapps (Google Apps) if you need to.
1.) Put your phone on 2.3.6 XXJW4 firmware using Odin. This is done so you have the right recovery- maybe explaining why CWM didn't work for you on Froyo. If you need help with this, feel free to ask
2.) Using Odin again, flash in CF-Root. You can find this somewhere in the Development forums for the I9000. I'll see if I can post links later. And again, if you need help, don't hesitate to ask
EDIT: Here you go make sure you find the right one... It should have XX and JW4 in the name.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788108
3.) Reboot into CWM recovery using the three button combo (Vol Up, Home, Power). From here, using the volume buttons to scroll and the home button to select, go Wipe Data and Wipe Cache. They're both on the main screen so you'll see them instantly.
Then go into the "Advanced" menu and click Wipe Dalvik cache.
4.) Now go back to the main menu, and select "Install zip from SD." Navigate to where you left your ROM. It'll ask you to confirm. Select Yes.
5.) Wait for it to flash in. It'll probably be really quick.
6.) You might end up in a bootloop. DON'T PANIC. YOU HAVEN'T BRICKED YOUR PHONE. Simply take out the battery from the back, put it back in, go back into recovery. Flash in the same ROM again, from the same place using the method in step 4.
7.) Wait for the rom to actually flash in this time.
8.) Done! It'll say its finished.
(Optional step for Google Apps: if they're not included in the ROM, you have to flash them in seperately. Once you finish step 7, wait for the phone to reboot. Then turn it off, go back into recovery and this time select the Gapps zip from your SD).
Hope I made it easy- if you have any questions, please, feel free to ask me either here or by PM

Hey, thanks for the help, i just installed the xxjw4, and the phone starts but it doesn't go anywhere, it just keeps on showing the "S" logo glowing, then reboots and does the same thing over and over. What is it that's missing here??
Thanks in advance.

Hey again,
Hmm, okay, see if you can find a file on these forums called dbsdata.rfs.tar. Try flash through Odin.
I think this is the file you're missing here- but I'm not sure about this...

i just flashed back to stock using odin. rooted the phone. installed the clockwork then i went into clockwork and went to install a new rom. i selected di11i's 6.0 rom and its says the following:
installing: SDCARD:dill1s6.0NO_OC.zip
finding update package...
and thats it. what do i do now before it went all the way through and then went back and rebooted and it started up. its like it hung on that part and it wont do anything. i would say its been at that screen for 5-10 minutes and now im worried. please someone give me a little info.
i didnt have enough post to post in the di11i's thread or i would have
thanks
I usually download the rom and place it in the sdcard root and reboot to recovery and install from sdcard.
thats what i did and i selected it in the recovery and went to install and it started but it stopped on the finding update package and i dont know what to do. can i take out the battery and it will reboot fine? i dont know i dont want to mess it up lol
use your key combo to get into recovery, or type "adb reboot recovery" if you have android sdk installed. then flash the zip again.

First of all, pls pull out battery and let us know the build number, if its 10.09 and earlier or one of the 10.10 and later models.
Second, do u have access to recovery console/download mode?
Recovery: Press and hold the two volume buttons, and power at the same time. When the phone restarts and it as at AT&T logo, release power (only). It should show u a recovery console.
Download: Turn off the phone. Hold the volume down, and plug the phone to computer. It should a yellow triangle and an android guy with a spade.
Following instructions are for 10.09 or earlier build phones only.
1. Get into download mode
2. Use the 1-click odin to flash stock
3. Copy the update.zip attached to this post to ur sdcard root.
4. Copy dilli's 6.0 NO OC zip to ur sd card (select no overclock kernel to be on the safe side in case ur phone does not support speeds over 1200)
5. Get the phone into recovery mode (as per instructions above)
6. Select "reinstall packages". U wud need to do this twice.
7. Now ur recovery console would come in green. Select "install zip from SD card", and then "choose zip from SD card", and then browse to the dilli's 6.0 zip file and select it.
Sit back having a cup of coffee, and the phone do its work.
Please let us know if u run into any issues.
thank you guys so much for the help i really appreciate it. i pulled the battery out and put it back in and went back into recovery. i then went to reinstall packages and went into clockwork. then i tried installing it again and it went through this time. i now have rebooted the phone and it is starting up now as i type this. also my phone is the 10.09

Based on ur number of posts, I presume u r new to this.
1. I would recommend u flash stock when moving between ROMs. This is not mandatory, but is recommended.
2. Do NOT use TiBu (titanium backup) to backup or restore any SYSTEM data. User apps and data is fine.

yes i am new to this lol. i was running cognition 3.02 and then just flashed 3.04 over the 3.02. but this time since i was flashing to a totally different rom i went back to stock using odin. and thanks for the tip on ONLY installing user apps and data.
i recommend you build a jig yourself or buy it online:

it is a very useful tool and will get you into download mode when things mess up. if you will flash / customize your rom in the future, you may need one ...
ya i have another cord i could cut and make one myself. lol this may be stupid but after i am flashed now and its working fine i installed titanium back up pro but its not showing up anywhere in my phone to use it. lol i am a phone noob just tryin to learn ahaha. thanks everybody
edit: i got it now lmao
Hey all!
I hope I can get a fast reply, since my time online is limited.
Anyways, i had darkys rom 9.5 installed and i decided to switch on voodoo lagfix. When i went for a system reboot i would see the samsunga galaxy S logo and the words "Restore Operation" being repeated over and over without progress, i took out the battery. I tried switching it on again several times without success
So the question:
Is my galaxy S considered garbage now or what should I do?
Is it over? Im so into android phones and i was trying to actually put money aisde and thought i would not be seeing another android phone for a year or 2. So I guess i will go for a new one if that is really the case, but that is not the point of this thread anyway sorry for drifting away.
Anyways, thanks for the answer in advance, greatly appreciated
Can you get in recovery mode and bootloader mode?
If so desable any lagfix if you got it
Enabled.Then flash an official rom

Thanks a lot for responding
Well, i tried getting into recovery mode without success . I am able to get into the download mode though, if that is of any help.
As for bootloader? What is that?
Once again thanks for the fast response..
EDIT: So does that mean my phone is now a helpless case? Or is there any way around it?
I found a thread via google where a user had a similar problem. Only difference being that he was on darkys rom 9.2, where as i am on 9.5.
I believe the procedure would be the same, but im really new to all of this and before completely wrecking this phone i would rather see what people here have to say to it.
He couldnt boot his phone and recovery mode didnt work, however , just like in my case, download mode works. He was told to flash 9.2 Resurrection edition onto his phone and it seems as though everything had gone well for him.
Would me doing the same thing perhaps solve my problem?
Only one question remains, how do i flash a rom? I followed this guide, very simply.. pretty much made for dummies, haha.
darkyrom.co m/community/index.php?threads/guide-installing-darkys-rom-on-2-2-2-2-1-i9000-i9000m-only.1041/
How exactly do i flash 9.5 extreme edition onto my phone again? The only program i recall using is odin 1.3, but that was in order to flash a kernal onto my phone.
I believe this is the rom i'm using: Darky's ROM Extreme Edition 9. I just do not know how to flash it, according to the guide i had to upload it to my phone, boot my phone in recovery mode and select the zip file and BAM! Now,however, i only have access to download mode. Meh. . .
Anyways, before i pull off a stupid stunt i would like to get some confermation before proceeding.
Thank you
Yeah, you have download mode, so recovering through Odin is possible. You could flash a stock rom or darky's resurrection. That guide you linked looks fine to me.

How though? The guide states that i need to put darky's rom onto my phone. Then i need to get into recovery mode (which i no longer have access to) and install it
Darky's resurrection seems like the best course for you since, as the name implies, it was created to bring phones back from similar situations.
Just follow the directions EXACTLY...and good luck.

Sir yes sir, i will give it a shot
Thank you for replying, i will post back the reesults asap
EDIT: oh .. this is something i cannot do:
"
2. Disable all lagfixes by going into the Recovery. Disable both normal and /system lagfixes. This is a must."
proceed with darky resurrection anyway?
EDIT2: Another problem popped up:
2. Wipe/Factory Reset phone. This is required. Turn off phone and then boot into Recovery (Vol UP+Home Key+the Power Button.). Select the 'wipe data/factory reset' option (using Power button if on custom ROM/custom kernel, or the Home key if on stock I9000 firmware). Then select Yes to do it.
i followed darky resurrection's guide up to the part 7, (after flashing with odin). After the reboot i was supposed to get an error:
7. After ODIN completes procedure and the phone reboots, a screen will come on the phone with 'Android system recovery <2e>' written at the top, and the following text will be written at the bottom:
"E:Invalid command argument
--Install from package--
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Installing update...
#MANUAL MODE#
-- Appling Muti CSC...
Installing Muti CSC"
However, the phone reboots in my case but just repeats the same error over and over.
Samsung galaxy logo appears and a robotic female voice keeps repeating : "Restore Operation"
I have no way to proceed to part two as i cannot access recovery mode
I guess it is over?
No one can help anymore?
I'm not sure but have you tried reflashing the kernel? do it through odin, a lot of time it can fix it just by doing that. If that works then go ahead and flash darkyy resurrection. Almost everyone is able to bring their phone back to life using his 9.2 method
Hope this works for you. Even if out doesn't don't worry because as long as you can get into download mode someone here will be able to provide more in depth solution. Try the irc in darkyy forum see if stone there can help you

Flash a stock 3 file firmware available from samfirmware.com with .pit file and re-partition ticked
This should put your phone back to stock completely, once you have done this it will be as you got it from the box
Then you can start again to install Darkys
Update
Haha I have just done the same thing except I was disabling lag fix, done the above and it does work!
Hi guys,
Please help me root my phone, here are the details,
Firmware: 2.3.3
Baseband: I9000DDJV5
Build: GINGERBREAD.DDJV9
Thanks
Simple Google search would have shown you, then come here if you get into trouble..
Anyway, download cf-root, start into recovery, wipe cache. Switch phone off.
Boot phone into download mode, start Odin up on your computer (cos u already have the Samsung drivers don't you) select PDA and browse and select cf-root file, plug USB into computer, wait on Odin saying added, then hit start.
Then you can boot back into recovery and install a proper firmware on your phone. Like slim bean Good luck. Good advice for you is always do a good bit of reading before you start flashing things to your phone.
There's nothing like that sinking feeling when u hit ur first boot loop lol

One more simple Google search will reveal nobody flash JB when running GB.
Then again, it won't be any hassle compared to why Odin don't finish flash, what cf-root version to use and how, re-partition?, that frikin' boot loop, soft bricked!?, lost my imei....
Ive flashed JB from GB couple times, including on this phone I'm using now, and its running super slick.
And I specifically left out things like cf versions, that way he'll see many versions, and have to do a bit of Google learning.
Like I said in my post, told him to read read read. That way he will stumble across fixes etc for things that can happen, and not just read it like a list and not have a clue if something doesn't go to plan.
That's how I learned.

I have been trying to find it on google, but I could not get to any conclusion.
Thanks for your help.
Please, can you give me the link for cf-root and odin.
Also, please tell me the difference between recovery mode & download mode?
Thanks alot

If you don't know the difference between download and recovery mode then you are going to break your phone. Then you're going to have to do a lot more reading to figure out how to fix it.
Stop. Stop and read more on the subject. Do not rush or you will regret. Put odin away for the meantime. Download the Samsung drivers for your computer also.
If you have any questions you can pm me or I'll help you across MSN or something.

Hi everybody,
sorry for posting this outside the mini 2 forum, but appearently that's a developers reserved forum, so I had no rights to post there.
I would like to ask what is the latest stable custom rom developed for mini2, where to find it and possibly an instruction page.
I had good experience with CM on another galaxy before, so I checked on the the CM website first but mini 2 is not listed there
On the other end I saw a long post on the mini2 developers forum saying that CM10 was actually created, but the post is 91 pages long(!), so forgive me if I didn't read it all. Is it working?
I also checked if there was something like an "in evidence" post with instructions for newbies but couldn't see any, maybe I missed it.
Can someone point me to the right page?
thank you for your held

mm in the meantime I screwed things up. I installed gapps and now it only boots in recovery mode...
why? what shall I do?
please help
thank you
davide
ok, now I'm starting to panic.
why does nobody answer, am I doing something wrong with this post?
I reinstalled the stock rom. I first tried using CWM recovery and selecting install zip file from sd card, but it didn't work: it told me BAD regarding the zip file (downloaded from sammobile), then I succeded using odin. by the way which is the correct method?
However it now seems to start, but I get in loops messages from the setupwizard that says the guided configuration has crashed and also from gapps that Google service Framework has crashed (but should gapps be wiped by the rom flash???).
the problem is that the first of the two keeps restarting and crashing so the phone doesn't do anything else then showing this messages.
please help
davide
After you flash Stock ROM via Odin. Remove battery, put it back. Boot into stock recovery - clear user data & cache and reboot. If the same error occurs try deleting /Android directory(old cache) in your sd card.
thank you for your reply, unfortunately it didn't help.
what do you mean by "stock recovery"? the recovery I see, I believe is CWM which I installed before, but I'm not sure.
anyhow from there I wiped user&cache but I had tried this before and removing teh battery didn't make a difference.
I do not have any /Android directory on my SD card.
it's a simple 4GB fat 32 partition with a single file in it (the zip with stock rom I tried to flash before using odin) and nothing else.
by the way, I used odin3 v.1.83 to flash and I selected the file using PDA button,
but I also have "bootloader", "phone" and "csc" options.
what is the difference?
everything I do makes it more dramatic!
I tried reapeating the whole procedure once again, and odin crashed while flashing teh rom. now it doesn't even boot in download mode, it simply asys to connect kies in recovery mode. but kies never saw my phone in spite of driveres reinstallation, and it is of course not seeing it now!!

you should terminate kies before using odin. You can kill it in task manager, because kies intereferes with ODIN.
You should'nt be concerned with bootloader and the other options. As long as ur downloaded stock has tar.md5 extension you just place it in the PDA section and select Auto reboot and F. Reset time only.
Also You should only disconnect when it says PASS otherwise u will brick ur phone.
When u success fully flash ur stock rom, the chance is it will not get to homescreen
So u remove battery, reinsert it, press and hold HOME button together with POWER button, the phone boots into stock recovery, you choose wipe data and cache, then reboot. (chemicalrage explained this)
If it ain't booting into download mode u should go to service centre.
PS: My advice is to stay away from custom roms until samsung releases jelly bean for mini 2, then better custom roms will be released.
Hi there!
First of all, I'm really new to all this stuff so please be patient. Yesterday I tried to install LineageOS 14.1 on my GT-I8190 but it didn't really work out and I don't understand why. I have read a few guides/tutorials and watched also youtube videos but nothing really helps me. It would be nice if someone could explain to me what I did wrong.
I already posted a wall of text on reddit in hope someone could help me out there. Feel free to reply in this thread or on reddit, whatever is more convenient for you guys
Might have soft bricked my S3, could use some advice
In addition to my reddit post, I would like to find out what ROM version I will need for my phone, respectively how I can find out which is compatible. Both ROMs I tried to use claim they are working with the GT-I8190, yet maybe that is not the case?
Also, I'm really confused about what guide to follow. Some use TWRP, others tell me to root the device, others say when using Odin I don't need to root, then there are guides that tell me to do stuff without letting me know what kind of tools I need to get things done. These guides might be great for people who have already flashed a few phones and installed several custom ROMs - I have no experience with this at all and while I can certainly reproduce the steps, I don't know what to do when unexpected errors pop up or something seems to be stuck.
Please help me out here, since I'm trying to get into this topic for the very first time
You'd be better off posting in Rom thread (maker) you downloaded it from for instructions.

But I will continue to contact. Thank you!
I'm glad to help you right there! I recommand first using ODIN if you really want to install a custom rom! I may guess you were been on Novafusion ? That's where I got my custom ROM's.
//Please charge your phone while doing this (~100%)
#1
Download the tools from Novafusion
(Downloads > Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini > Extras > Odin v3.07 > Click Windows > Resolve captcha)
#2
Still be at Novafusion and download first LineAge OS / Cyanogen Mod the Lollipop 5.0.2 (CyanogenMod 12.0) 20150428 stable for Odin if you don't see the option Odin just click at the "recovery" and select Odin and download it. Extract the ZIP file at the Desktop same as you did for Odin.
#3
Now open Odin, click on PDA search for the .tar.md5 file select it click on open.
Remove the battery from your phone, plug it in hold Homebutton, Volume Down and Power (in this order) for about 4 - 5 s till you see a triangle /!\ just hit Volume Up to continue, plug your phone to the PC if Odin reconize it and added it in the small white dialogue box hit Start now wait till everything is done.
#4
If everything was done plug out the battery and do that again : Homebutton, Volume Up and Power you shall see a complete new recovery that says "TWRP" tap on Wipe, select Factory reset and Dalvik cache and swipe the small circle. Now reboot, it will take a few minutes and there you are your first flashed custom ROM.
If you want those never ROM's as Android 7 and such, just feel free to ask me!
