[Newbie] Failed to install custom ROM on my GT-I8190. Different versions? - Galaxy S III Mini Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi there!
First of all, I'm really new to all this stuff so please be patient. Yesterday I tried to install LineageOS 14.1 on my GT-I8190 but it didn't really work out and I don't understand why. I have read a few guides/tutorials and watched also youtube videos but nothing really helps me. It would be nice if someone could explain to me what I did wrong.
I already posted a wall of text on reddit in hope someone could help me out there. Feel free to reply in this thread or on reddit, whatever is more convenient for you guys
Might have soft bricked my S3, could use some advice
In addition to my reddit post, I would like to find out what ROM version I will need for my phone, respectively how I can find out which is compatible. Both ROMs I tried to use claim they are working with the GT-I8190, yet maybe that is not the case?
Also, I'm really confused about what guide to follow. Some use TWRP, others tell me to root the device, others say when using Odin I don't need to root, then there are guides that tell me to do stuff without letting me know what kind of tools I need to get things done. These guides might be great for people who have already flashed a few phones and installed several custom ROMs - I have no experience with this at all and while I can certainly reproduce the steps, I don't know what to do when unexpected errors pop up or something seems to be stuck.
Please help me out here, since I'm trying to get into this topic for the very first time

You'd be better off posting in Rom thread (maker) you downloaded it from for instructions.

It was first thing I did. No reply yet
But I will continue to contact. Thank you!

I'm glad to help you right there! I recommand first using ODIN if you really want to install a custom rom! I may guess you were been on Novafusion ? That's where I got my custom ROM's.
//Please charge your phone while doing this (~100%)
#1
Download the tools from Novafusion
(Downloads > Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini > Extras > Odin v3.07 > Click Windows > Resolve captcha)
#2
Still be at Novafusion and download first LineAge OS / Cyanogen Mod the Lollipop 5.0.2 (CyanogenMod 12.0) 20150428 stable for Odin if you don't see the option Odin just click at the "recovery" and select Odin and download it. Extract the ZIP file at the Desktop same as you did for Odin.
#3
Now open Odin, click on PDA search for the .tar.md5 file select it click on open.
Remove the battery from your phone, plug it in hold Homebutton, Volume Down and Power (in this order) for about 4 - 5 s till you see a triangle /!\ just hit Volume Up to continue, plug your phone to the PC if Odin reconize it and added it in the small white dialogue box hit Start now wait till everything is done.
#4
If everything was done plug out the battery and do that again : Homebutton, Volume Up and Power you shall see a complete new recovery that says "TWRP" tap on Wipe, select Factory reset and Dalvik cache and swipe the small circle. Now reboot, it will take a few minutes and there you are your first flashed custom ROM.
If you want those never ROM's as Android 7 and such, just feel free to ask me!

[Q] Galaxy S Root, PLEASE HELP ASAP!

Hi guys,
Please help me root my phone, here are the details,
Firmware: 2.3.3
Baseband: I9000DDJV5
Build: GINGERBREAD.DDJV9
Thanks
Simple Google search would have shown you, then come here if you get into trouble..
Anyway, download cf-root, start into recovery, wipe cache. Switch phone off.
Boot phone into download mode, start Odin up on your computer (cos u already have the Samsung drivers don't you) select PDA and browse and select cf-root file, plug USB into computer, wait on Odin saying added, then hit start.
Then you can boot back into recovery and install a proper firmware on your phone. Like slim bean Good luck. Good advice for you is always do a good bit of reading before you start flashing things to your phone.
There's nothing like that sinking feeling when u hit ur first boot loop lol

One more simple Google search will reveal nobody flash JB when running GB.
Then again, it won't be any hassle compared to why Odin don't finish flash, what cf-root version to use and how, re-partition?, that frikin' boot loop, soft bricked!?, lost my imei....
Ive flashed JB from GB couple times, including on this phone I'm using now, and its running super slick.
And I specifically left out things like cf versions, that way he'll see many versions, and have to do a bit of Google learning.
Like I said in my post, told him to read read read. That way he will stumble across fixes etc for things that can happen, and not just read it like a list and not have a clue if something doesn't go to plan.
That's how I learned.

I have been trying to find it on google, but I could not get to any conclusion.
Thanks for your help.
Please, can you give me the link for cf-root and odin.
Also, please tell me the difference between recovery mode & download mode?
Thanks alot

I selected cf-root and started odin, now it's saying setup connection, what to do?
Thanks
If you don't know the difference between download and recovery mode then you are going to break your phone. Then you're going to have to do a lot more reading to figure out how to fix it.
Stop. Stop and read more on the subject. Do not rush or you will regret. Put odin away for the meantime. Download the Samsung drivers for your computer also.
If you have any questions you can pm me or I'll help you across MSN or something.

[Q] Gti-9000 jellybean install

Hi, I own a SGS gt-i9000, and i rooted it with Z4root. I'm trying to update my android to the jellybean 4.1, with absolutely no success, this is due to my lack of experience with the android OS and clockwork mod and so on. I tried everything i could, nothing seems to work, first because the CWM doesn't work for GT-I9000 for some stupid reason, and second because, as I already said, i am a giant noob on this OS.
What I'm asking for is a simple way to upgrade to jellybean 4.1 OS that even a bloody rock can understand, sorry for the expression, but i'm really mad right now. My phone specs are:
firmware version: 2.2
I9000BUJP5
Kernel: 2.6.32.9 [email protected] #1
FROYO.BUJP7
Thanks in advance.
P.S. I have already read threads about doing the same but i failed to understand every thing.

Hey,
First times can be frustrating! Seriously, I got really mad when I was trying to put CM9 on my phone.
Easy steps? I'll try make it as simple as I can.
First, make sure you have your desired ROM on your internal SD, and Gapps (Google Apps) if you need to.
1.) Put your phone on 2.3.6 XXJW4 firmware using Odin. This is done so you have the right recovery- maybe explaining why CWM didn't work for you on Froyo. If you need help with this, feel free to ask
2.) Using Odin again, flash in CF-Root. You can find this somewhere in the Development forums for the I9000. I'll see if I can post links later. And again, if you need help, don't hesitate to ask
EDIT: Here you go make sure you find the right one... It should have XX and JW4 in the name.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788108
3.) Reboot into CWM recovery using the three button combo (Vol Up, Home, Power). From here, using the volume buttons to scroll and the home button to select, go Wipe Data and Wipe Cache. They're both on the main screen so you'll see them instantly.
Then go into the "Advanced" menu and click Wipe Dalvik cache.
4.) Now go back to the main menu, and select "Install zip from SD." Navigate to where you left your ROM. It'll ask you to confirm. Select Yes.
5.) Wait for it to flash in. It'll probably be really quick.
6.) You might end up in a bootloop. DON'T PANIC. YOU HAVEN'T BRICKED YOUR PHONE. Simply take out the battery from the back, put it back in, go back into recovery. Flash in the same ROM again, from the same place using the method in step 4.
7.) Wait for the rom to actually flash in this time.
8.) Done! It'll say its finished.
(Optional step for Google Apps: if they're not included in the ROM, you have to flash them in seperately. Once you finish step 7, wait for the phone to reboot. Then turn it off, go back into recovery and this time select the Gapps zip from your SD).
Hope I made it easy- if you have any questions, please, feel free to ask me either here or by PM

Hey, thanks for the help, i just installed the xxjw4, and the phone starts but it doesn't go anywhere, it just keeps on showing the "S" logo glowing, then reboots and does the same thing over and over. What is it that's missing here??
Thanks in advance.

Hey again,
Hmm, okay, see if you can find a file on these forums called dbsdata.rfs.tar. Try flash through Odin.
I think this is the file you're missing here- but I'm not sure about this...

[Q] stable custom rom for mini2?

Hi everybody,
sorry for posting this outside the mini 2 forum, but appearently that's a developers reserved forum, so I had no rights to post there.
I would like to ask what is the latest stable custom rom developed for mini2, where to find it and possibly an instruction page.
I had good experience with CM on another galaxy before, so I checked on the the CM website first but mini 2 is not listed there
On the other end I saw a long post on the mini2 developers forum saying that CM10 was actually created, but the post is 91 pages long(!), so forgive me if I didn't read it all. Is it working?
I also checked if there was something like an "in evidence" post with instructions for newbies but couldn't see any, maybe I missed it.
Can someone point me to the right page?
thank you for your held
davide
mm in the meantime I screwed things up. I installed gapps and now it only boots in recovery mode...
why? what shall I do?
please help
thank you
davide
ok, now I'm starting to panic.
why does nobody answer, am I doing something wrong with this post?
I reinstalled the stock rom. I first tried using CWM recovery and selecting install zip file from sd card, but it didn't work: it told me BAD regarding the zip file (downloaded from sammobile), then I succeded using odin. by the way which is the correct method?
However it now seems to start, but I get in loops messages from the setupwizard that says the guided configuration has crashed and also from gapps that Google service Framework has crashed (but should gapps be wiped by the rom flash???).
the problem is that the first of the two keeps restarting and crashing so the phone doesn't do anything else then showing this messages.
please help
davide
After you flash Stock ROM via Odin. Remove battery, put it back. Boot into stock recovery - clear user data & cache and reboot. If the same error occurs try deleting /Android directory(old cache) in your sd card.
thank you for your reply, unfortunately it didn't help.
what do you mean by "stock recovery"? the recovery I see, I believe is CWM which I installed before, but I'm not sure.
anyhow from there I wiped user&cache but I had tried this before and removing teh battery didn't make a difference.
I do not have any /Android directory on my SD card.
it's a simple 4GB fat 32 partition with a single file in it (the zip with stock rom I tried to flash before using odin) and nothing else.
by the way, I used odin3 v.1.83 to flash and I selected the file using PDA button,
but I also have "bootloader", "phone" and "csc" options.
what is the difference?
everything I do makes it more dramatic!
I tried reapeating the whole procedure once again, and odin crashed while flashing teh rom. now it doesn't even boot in download mode, it simply asys to connect kies in recovery mode. but kies never saw my phone in spite of driveres reinstallation, and it is of course not seeing it now!!

you should terminate kies before using odin. You can kill it in task manager, because kies intereferes with ODIN.
You should'nt be concerned with bootloader and the other options. As long as ur downloaded stock has tar.md5 extension you just place it in the PDA section and select Auto reboot and F. Reset time only.
Also You should only disconnect when it says PASS otherwise u will brick ur phone.
When u success fully flash ur stock rom, the chance is it will not get to homescreen
So u remove battery, reinsert it, press and hold HOME button together with POWER button, the phone boots into stock recovery, you choose wipe data and cache, then reboot. (chemicalrage explained this)
If it ain't booting into download mode u should go to service centre.
PS: My advice is to stay away from custom roms until samsung releases jelly bean for mini 2, then better custom roms will be released.

status 7 error

hello i've been trying 2 get a new rom for my brother's SGS+
but almost every rom i try (mostly jelly bean and ics roms but also some gb ones) give me n error
when i try 2 install them through recovery mode,
i get error status 7, installation aborted
now i looked for this problem on the internet and it appears there r some solutions found on this link:
http://www.knowtechbetter.com/how-t...ry-cwm-while-installing-flashing-custom-roms/
however i did not understand any of this
i m not new in installing roms and such but i m not very femilier with all these "more complicated" things
i noticed at the comments that the first solution helped someone
and it looks easy, if any1 could explain me shortly how do i do this this would be very helpful.
thanks~

i accidently soft bricked it and now im trying 2 flash it back 2 stock with odin through your guide
but odin recognises my pc recognises the ops file as a text file so odin doesnt even see it...
u gotta help me ;_;
hey man relax... in wiki page you'll find cwm5.5.0.4 flashable zip and you can install it from recovery ( even from stock recovery if i remember corectly)... if you can't acces your phone you can copy it from pc to phone using recovery ( mounts and storage )... if you are stuck in recovery( you're phone boot in recovery only ) you'll need to flash the bootloader using odin.. also you can find the steps and necessary files in wiki and in cm10 by ivendor in firrst post ..Good Luck !!!
1: How did you softbrick it? What did you do, because I thought Odin got stuck??
2: You do see an Phone an ! and a PC?
3: You do have the latest ROM by Samsung and the correct AriesVE.ops?
If yes then we can get started. Follow my guide, when odin gets stuck at System (for a long long time > You know this because the green balk with time gets stuck) unplug device, reboot download again, reboot computer, and try again with BroodROM RC5 (see index)... (BroodROM RC5 is a last resort for our device since it has fixed many softbricked one including mine)

aaaand that's what happens when you start flashing random stuff to your phone without knowing what you actually do...
Ok, I wont tease you or anything, here is what to do:
READ THIS
THIS (all stuff from there, doesn't matter if you don't consider it necessary, you surely will in the future)
After you read all those and understand everything, flash back to stock using @mrjraider tutorial, it's a clear step by step one so follow every step.
Now, the thing is that you'll need CWM Recovery, not FeaMod which is only able to flash GB ROM's.
The most stable CWM recovery is CWM 5.5.0.4 you can find it at the bottom of the OT from this thread
HERE is how to flash CWM with Odin.
Please, pay attention and don't rush things up. And next time you have a problem post in an appropriate thread don't open a new one and especially not in the dev section, see this
Also, no user "gotta help you" you've chose to flash tings to your phone, if you mess it up, it's your own failure and nobody 'MUST' help you... (see this)

Galaxy SIII Mini help

Hi! Im Manu from Spain... First, sorry for my bad english.... I only know english i studied on school!
I started read this forum months ago, because my old computing teacher visits it every day.... But, between my bad English and my inexperience with phones.... I'm worried because I want to flash my phone, but im not sure how, i read tutorials, byt every phone and rom is a world...
So, i made a tutorial on a paper for flash a ROM on Galaxy S2, and i wrote all the steps, but even so, im wrong with some steps...
The thing is... Anyone can help me installing a Cyanogen on my s3 mini? I know the basic... I "Hope", only need steps of... first, this room, next, this thing, next... I only know the most basic things... And of course, how to do secure, and if something happens what should I do... And how install a stock Rom, or a modified Rom if the Rom i installed dont work fine...
I think, all here, on this forum, know everything, or at least more than me... I think you say me "read, or watch tutorials", but its very difficult for me...
You can not imagine how hard that made me write all this text!
So, if you cant or dont want help me, ill understand, but if anyone can, ill appreciate it very much...
So, greetings from Spain, and great forum, ill try to look around and comment for the forum!
Thanks!
Hi Manu and welcome to the forum! This is how I flash the Samsung phones, not saying it's the only or the best way (as there are many more) but this way it has always worked for me.
Tools you need to download:
- ClockworkMod Recovery for the S3 Mini: http://download2.clockworkmod.com/recoveries/recovery-clockwork-6.0.2.7-golden.img
- Heimdall Flash Suite: https://bitbucket.org/benjamin_dobell/heimdall/downloads
- Cyanogenmod 10.2 firmware image. Which can be considered as the latest stable version. While there is no official release for the S3 Mini, there are two unofficial versions maintained by
Maclaw: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2478972
Oliver: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2491332
Personally, I prefer Oliver's version, but ultimately, the choice is yours!
- Google Apps for Android 4.3: http://goo.im/gapps/gapps-jb-20130813-signed.zip
1) Having downloaded all files mentioned above, install Heimdall on your PC. This is the flash tool which will put the ClockworkMod recovery image on your device.
2) Bring your S3 Mini in Download mode: Switch off the phone, then hold down Vol-, and Home button and press the Power button (while still holding down Vol- and Home button!)
3) Connect the USB cable to your computer and then to the S3 Mini.
4) For flashing, I followed this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2345310 with some modifications:
(General note: For Windows, the commands have no "sudo", you just need to run "heimdall ...")
4a) Open a text console and run
Code:
heimdall print-pit --no-reboot
This will print the partition table of your S3 Mini. Carefully browse through it and look for a section called "RECOVERY" and note down the corresponding identifier number in this section. Very likely it will be "19", but definitely check to be 100% sure about this!! The next step assumes it is 19, if it's different for your device then change in the command below accordingly!
4b) Flash the ClockworkMod Recovery:
Code:
heimdall flash --19 path/to/your/file/recovery-clockwork-6.0.2.7-golden.img --no-reboot
Once done, you will see a blue bar on the S3 Mini and a success message on your PC.
5) Reboot your device into recovery mode by holding down Vol+, and Home button and press the Power button (while still holding down Vol+ and Home button!)
6) Once recovery has booted, you can follow :
official Cyanogenmod install guide (for e.g. the S3): http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Install_CM_for_i9300#Installing_CyanogenMod_from_recovery
mauam's FAQ Guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2441878
Make a backup before flashing anything, as this will allow you to always revert to the original state. Copy this backup away on your PC or any safe location before flashing, just to be sure.
If anything is unclear, just ask. Good luck!
THANKS! Really thanks...! unfortunately, my dog broke my lcd and now im "depressed" because i have not money to buy another smartphone, because i want samsung, and there are so expensive.... and the lcd cost on Amazon 80€, so, i cant..... if cost 40-50€.... yes....
So, first i think will repair the lcd, and then, forgot your tutorial... So i copied to a document on my PC...!
But, whit this, i will install a STABLE version of cyanogen, right? I saw some versions but only one says "stable".... Because i want for daily use!
Thanks again!
