Am in India and getting an AT&T Xperia TL,
I heard the T has officially received 4.1.2 update, what about TL?
Also can I update mine as am in India and not on AT&T?
Phone is unlocked.
None of the 2012 Xperia devices received 4.1.x yet.
Once its officially released, then someone will create an FTF file and post it on this forum. Then you will be able to flash it using flashtool even if you are not rooted and have a locked bootloader.
PS.
Rule number 1, never ask for an ETA, esacially from a phone company, even if they give you one they normally are late anyway.

That website is wrong. They fell for the same story that other websites fell for and posted that before they did any due dilligence checks to see if it was true.
There is NO official update for the xperia T, yet, But it is close. Its due Q1 2013 so is imminent.
The closest we have is the leaked ROM that DooMLoRD is working on, but that is for brown devces and wont work on our production models. That ROM is the one that was released on a Vietnam forum that all these other websites have fallen for.

Real thread title pal, its TL and not T that am asking of.

No, They have not missed there own deadline yet.
They said it would be release Q1 2013
thats sometime between Jan and the END OF MARCH 2013....so keep waiting...like the rest of us. Once the END OF MARCH has come and gone, then you can complain, but manufacturers are reknonwed for missing their deadlines, so dont hold your breath

In all fairness, I think Sony have been quite good to the Dev community, Their updates for the X10 sometimes were late, but not much. All in all I am happy with them and since we are at the end of Jan now its only about 70 days to wait....I would think they will be on time for this deadline.
gregbradley, well my experience shows the opposite, my Sony Z5 never even got Froyo ;_;
j/k
And if you want some really slow updates you should really go for Motorola.

Z5, well that goes back a bit. Since then they improved.
the X10 was (eventually) upgraded to 2.3 even though they initially said that the 2.1 update was the final one.
Sony have been good to the devs in recent times. Allowing bootloader to be unlocked and even donating devices to devs and working alongside them to make the Sony experience even better.... which other manufacturer is so dev friendly
Yes, “a bit” is an understatement though, Z5 was released in 2000.
As for development, even with a locked bootloader you don't need to jump through even half as many hoops as it is needed on a Motorola device. There's Flashtool, too.
Though this is pretty off-topic, I guess.
Sony (well, the Ericsson crew rather) is of a different mind set altogether. They have been closely working with us to try and get things working. It is a mutually beneficial symbiosis and they understand that. Most other manufacturers are on the other side of the spectrum. However, the main issue is the fact that carriers have many of them on a stranglehold with contractual obligations.
We will see an update. The leak is living proof of this, and keep in mind... the fact that this is for brown devices means that this is likely quite old, which in turn, it means that there may be something far more "ready" for prime time . Also, remember that (from what Entropy and others have said already), the things broken in this leak are broken because the signatures for the drivers are meant to match a brown device. Meaning, if you had a brown device in your possession, most things would likely work well (including Wifi, which seems to be the only major broken thing left).
Just have a little patience
Sony is a bit of perfectionist that's why it's so late. I prefer this rather than s3's poor implementation of vsync or whatever they call it on jelly bean. Funny thing is, ics is faster than Samsung's touchwiz

Well, they are not late. They did say they would release it Q1, so they are well within their "promised" delivery window. Also, how many other manufacturers have pushed JB updates to their 2012 line up? Sammy is just pushing out JB for the SGS3, and lets not even bring HTC, Moto, Asus, LG, et al into the mix... They are still doing better than most imho.
I know this isn't of relevance to this device, but the Xperia Tablet S has been confirmed to receive JellyBean second week of February. Sony were good with keeping on time with their ICS update for the old tablet, so here's hoping its the same here.

Which country and which carrier confirmed that? When an update is released it is over about a week to a fortnight for generic devices depending on regions. Anone with a branded device could wait upto another month as their carriers put their bloatware on it....

O rly? Other manufacturers already updated their newest devices... It seems that Sony keeps their level. Late upgrades, welcome again!
Great news, but dont forget that if you have a branded phone it be more like april or may than february or march.
But as soon as those first generic updates hit the servers I am sure we will be uploading them here for everyone to enjoy!
EDIT
Q1 2013 for JB was the earliest date always for xperia T, so its not really late..very nearly early actually
Couldn't a branded phone just flash a JB. ftf on release?
By that time
By that time I wouldn't be surprised if Google is announcing key lime pie or a newer iteration of jb

Thats why you all should help the aosp teams as much as possible so you dont have to wait for a company to roll out updates when they feel like it.. ie a year late.
4.2 is nothing, seriously.
4.1 is a huge thing. As long Sony gets us to 4.1 im happy. Other than 5.0 i dont know. Cause 4.2 doesnt offer much features when companies like samsung, sony, etc.. applies their own skin/features on top of it, it pretty much does the same thing as 4.2. except for lockscreen, updates for google now.
to me, it just seems lile Google is running out of ideas.
To me it seems that Sony releases way too many models.
I would love if they could cut down on the hysterical mass of releases and focus on a fewer amount of models, but I guess thats just a wish. After all, they won't make any money from releasing the latest android update to all their older phones, but by selling new ones.
It's a bit wierd that they couldn't release the Xperia T/TX/V with 4.1 to begin with. 4.1 isn't that new any longer.
My old Xperia Arc was absolutely awesome with CM10, like a new phone. I could just imagine how great my Xperia V would run with 4.1/4.2!
I agree

I've asked, given ideas, and shared my thoughts but it seems a lot of people here think the bootloader is almost impossible to unlock that we've settled for suped up stock roms. (I'm a TL user)
Even Sony is known for slow OS updates, I still prefer their very nice-looking phone over a higher-spec ugly phone LOL(looking at you Samsung). And on-screen buttons FTW.
But of course, all boils down to personal preference.
And btw, my TX screen display is gorgeous especially when compared side by side to my Nexus 4, when looking at the same image files I put on both. Only positive to N4 is fast update(therefore more fancy goodies), other than that, TX beats it.

The development life cycle for something as complicated as our phone is quite long. Generally the hardware gets a first run design and then the firmware guys get going on the initial prototypes. They'll use the latest base-OS version they can (normally) but don't underestimate the amount of work it is to move from one Android version to another. They won't have infinite resources!
Agree, of course. Yet I feel compelled to mention, that the korean gigant has 4.1 out since a while for devices released not that long before ours. Well, the T at least.
So while your statement still applies, relatively, Sony is describeable as slow.
Isn't the Xperia V supposed to be launched in the US with jelly bean in January?

They can't because of the regions. They could do that for the US, for example, but aside that Sony has got a LOT of different customizations to prepare, and it's completely impossible to do all of them at the same time.

So your assumption is that Sony's takeover will eradicate the existing update rollout issues? I'm afraid that is quite naive. I owned the Xperia S prior to this device, which was a "Sony" device, and watched the upgrade take six months to complete and some regions still don't have 4.0.4.
In any event, best wishes for a happy holiday season to all.

Well maybe Sony is planning a 5.0 release but is not saying anything for now.
We have good CPU and 1GB of RAM. We don't have 4 cores and 2GB. SGS III has 4 cores and 1GB RAM too and it will be updated to 5.0.
Samsung announced 5.0 for some of its Galaxy devices. Some of them will stay at 4.2.2 and some of them will be updated to 5.0 for sure.
We have to wait. Some of us just received 4.1.2 and it's still full of bugs and glitches. Let Sony fix these problems first and then think about the possibility of receiving the update to next version.
I am not sure what you mean by v5.0

I'm saying this is too far fetched. We would never officially get 5.0. Sony if famous for releasing devices with outdated firmware. I mean the Z was released with 4.1 and still hasn't got 4.2. the GS3 got it on Feb. AFAIK
And currently that is their flagship. Not us
Also you can't blame Sony for their delayed releases because their firmware is so far away from pure AOSP. They do put a lot of work and themeing into it.
I hate those people proclaiming like Sony's CEO, that "Xperia T will never get Android 5.0" etc. This kind of bullcrap, one sided, motion, is pure nonsense and childish. Those people must be removed and banned from XDA.
And the Galaxy S3 did not receive the 4.2 update. Do not spread rumours to gain personal fame.

There is nothing quite like having decent hardware run on the latest version of software, where the latter would be useful in squeezing out every possible ounce of performance from the former. Well, having said that, we bring you word that there is new firmware (9.1.A.1.138) which has been certified for the Sony Xperia T (also known as the LT30p) and the Xperia TX (aka LT29i). Sony Mobile claims that this update for both devices is set to arrive from April onwards, although I am quite sure that the pegged April 1st date is not an attempt to pull a fast one on consumers.
This new firmware will also see the introduction of Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean to the Sony Xperia TX, as owners of this particular smartphone model were said to have been waiting for far too long for some Jelly Bean goodness. Apart from that, it is said that the update will bring along with it a fix for the problem that users have suffered from when running the Walkman app on Jelly Bean firmware. All’s well that ends well, no?

We would never officially get 5.0. Period. And 4.2.2 IS a big update as there are many things that aren't available in 4.1 and considering Sony, they need to fix the Walkman bug and sound quality and sound level. 5.0 is too far away. There won't be a 5.0 device around until the end of the year (I presume).

Actually, they should still be the same problems that my TX is having. Maybe I'll give that a shot, load some songs, and run it. If it still doesn't work, I'll just continue using my Walkman Z :good:
Well after I thoughts about the awesomeness of the Sony company I something to say:
Jelly Bean was released almost TWO MONTHS AGO. For two months we, The Users, have to deal with many issues connected with crappy (yes, it's crappy) Jelly Bean released for T. Many problems experienced by many users are piling up on Q&A. This is pathetic. Walkman bug is not even fixed for now and will be fixed on week 14. Two months of waiting for the bug to be fixed. Xperia Z got its "Sudden Death" problem fixed in a couple of days and besides it already got a couple of updates since the release. Our phones - Xperia T, TX, TL and V are not even 6 months old and it looks like Sony downed the support to a minimum. I feel like I was kicked in the butt by them and their support is like "Look, people... we will release a couple of fixes but then just shut the hell up and buy our new phones! Yay!"
Take a look at Samsung. They claimed that many of their phones will receive 4.2 and then the support for better Android versions will stop. SGSII - two-years-old phone will be updated to 4.2.2! This is something amazing.
Eh. I've never thought Sony would piss me off so much. I thought it will never happen. But I see that the more Xperias come, the less they're supported. We don't even know if our T's and V's will be ever updated to 4.2. I guess Sony will just say "These phones don't have enough RAM" just like they said about 2011 phones and theirs 4.1. Hey, Sony! Xperia J has also 512 RAM and it's enough for the Jelly Bean to be released but for another 512MB's is not?! (Remember that all of 2011's have even more powerful CPUs than the J's)
Pa-the-tic.
Anyways I'm still happy of my T but the support is really screwed up...

AW: Sony Xperia T And Xperia TX Gets New Firmware This April
romcio47 said:
Pa-the-tic.
Anyways I'm still happy of my T but the support is really screwed up...

mhh okay we have the walkman bug (I don't but others have), I can't find many other issues (nothing), I had a s3 and they released many updates for jb in a row but not because they are more userfriendly, it was because each new version had to fix some new bugs and they were much more annoying.
also jb on the s3 is more laggy than on xperia t, believe me. you can always say "why do contacts not instantly open on my t" but with an s3 you can be happy when they are open under 5 seconds and this on a Quadcore phone ...
who knows if we get 4.2 officially, even if not the port will be faster and more bug free than the official 4.2 from Samsung, I'm sure. but you are right, we have to get official 4.2 because we have bought an expensive flagship device.

Unless you got the Korean variant, you must be having the 1GB Ram variant of the GS3. JB is laggy on GS3 because of TouchWiz. Use a custom ROM and its all good. Touchwiz is such a Ram hogger.
And we definitely would get 4.2! Otherwise it's just ridiculous.. I'll burn Sony down! Its the next increment im afraid of. Also remember GS3 has many more inbuilt features than our T (software wise) such as multiwindow, so it tends to be slower. I'm not saying its better though. We got smallapps
Android Police has uncovered evidence of android 4.3 in the works, most likely to be announced at I/O next month.
Could it be possible that 4.2.2 has been delayed because the awesome people at Sony are working instead on 4.3?
Probably not but it would be cool if Sony could be ahead of the development curve for once

I dont know how Sony is with their update but it takes Samsung FOREVER to update their phone. I been using CM10 so when they announce 4.1.2 I'm not even amazed or care.
I don't think Google would release source code (or whatever) early. And you can't assume from this rumour that Sony is waiting.

Even IF there will be a 4.3, we will get 4.2 first. IF there will be a 4.3:
1: It's not out yet (4.2 is)
2: Source codes aren't given out yet (4.2 source codes are)
IF 4.3 comes out then I guess we will get it before 5.0.
Way too many if's in this topic.
I vote for this bs to be closed.

A good part is given to companies before the release to they can start working on it before it is actually released.

I think I wrote my post wrong.
AFAIK, only a part (not a good one) is sent to SOME companies (the biggest ones). The smaller ones don't get it so soon.
Seeming Sony is an AOSP partner I have no doubts their are People at Sony right now who know about 4.3, I highly doubt Google keeps their manufacturers in the dark until the launch day causing all OEMS to play catch up
It's been confirmed before that Sony is one of the key partners already working on the 'next' platform. They contribute a huge amount to Android compared to all the other manufacturers and it's going to give them the competitive edge some day.
I don't think so. Sony said that 4.2 update should be released soon after the phone's release, that means they must have been working on it for quite a while now. They won't just scrap their work and wait few months before 4.3/5.0 sources are released to start working again.
I think we'll get both of them, 4.2 in may/june and 4.3/5.0 probably 3-6 months after release - and let's hope it won't be wishful thinking.
I'd rather get 4.2 in a month or so than getting an hypothetical 4.3 in a 6 months...

hypothetical situations don't help but what does 4.2 really bring???? For the GNex is drastically reduced SOD but the Z doesn't have that issue.
If Sony turned around and asked and promised 4.2 next week OR 4.3 in 6 months I would take 4.3.
That said without a change log Who knows what 4.3 brings it may just be as useless at 4.2

But a hypothetical situation is what this thread is based on. Realistically it's a case of sit back and enjoy the handset as it is until Mr Sony pushes us an update. Some people are getting stressed out about updates. Frankly if it's not in my hands. I'm not worried about it. Just my opinion.

To be honest, XZ has "no use" for 4.2 - by this I mean there are no features worth the hype in it, and honestly I only hope for it to include core OS bugfixes and some XZ-specific fixes like WiFi performance etc.
We always looking for Somin which isn't Even out.... How much of 4.2 have you used?

There seems to be quite a few articles online saying that the Xperia Z is going to be one of the first devices to get KLP.. They even write it in a 'shocked' manner which I guess based on Sony's update history is rather appropriate.

Just read the articles. Might this as well indicate that Sony might be the next Nexus manufacturer?

This brings back "2.1 to 2.2" update we faced with our beloved X10
Sony Ericsson back then did skip Frozen Yoghurt and jumped right onto Gingerbread..
I'm not sure if this is the case though because they have been working on 4.2 and it's not easy to scrap all the hard work and start all over again
Hey guys, I dis a little research in the web but found nothing concrete about the KitKat update for the Xperia T. I would like to know what has been decided for this good device.
No news yet...
...and official firmware support has ended on April (18 months from the release of the device).
From my point of view, we can only hope in a last version for JB 4.3

Seriously with that cycle, release with old version then delay, then finally a release ... a buggy release... Thanks
I don't know why you talk like that to Sony, the Xperia T has the same updates the Galaxy Nexus, that it's the market not only Sony.

Becuase I am a little frustrated. Maybe its because I expected more and you are correct I was a bit sarcastic for which I apologize.
Still I have Sony camera and I appreciate all they do and its good that they are strong now, they diversify the market.
Lets hope that they will keep with our highest expectations and provide at least one more build - stable 4.3 or 4.4.
I'd be surprised if there are any further updates to 4.3. I doubt 4.4 will make it to the T in official form.
As for buggy? I haven't had a single problem with mine since upgrading to 4.3
All this bull**** about I want 4.4 NOW nad Sony suck because they're not supporting the phone for ever, just shows some people to be acting like spoilt children.

Bugs? I tell you one: I can't use my Bluetooth and Wifi at the same moment, I have to switch between, that is very inconvenient... Childish? I need my phone for everyday life

What I think he meant is that it's not a bug if it only happens to you. That fact that your phone isn't working for you isn't necessarily the case for everyone. The only problem I've had with my phone is all the bloatware it comes with, and the white settings; both of which can be fixed easily.

According to your logic and, for example, if you just using the phone for calling and messaging, the firmware for you is good . But I believe the phone should be fully functioning because everybody has different needs

And that was exactly my point. If the phone is fully functional for others and not for you, doesn't make it a bug, it just means that whatever you are using under your specific circumstances is not working for you. It's not about people's needs, it's about the phone working as the developers expected it to.
For instance, I've heard people complain about the microphone picking up the sound of the camera focusing while recording. If that is how the developers intended it to work, then it's not a bug, regardless of whether it interferes with the black and white silent movies they are trying to produce.

With that logic we can come to the conclusion if something is not working, it is just "specific circumstances" .Bytheway, this bug somewhere I read was fixed for other phones . And also I am not alone complaining about the bugs, ok, according to you "specific circumstances". But I will not get into the further discussions
Skyguar said:

No, because if nobody can make a phone call, then it's not "specific circumstances"; if you're the only one that can't make a call, there must be some circumstance preventing you from doing so. You really don't know much about logic.
I don't think it comes for xperia t any other series which came with xperia t.
I recently stumbled upon this news
http://motoringcrunch.com/news/sony-xperia-getting-exclusive-kitkat-4-4-3-features/10018672/
Sony website still says 'under investigation' but there still might be hope for us T, TX and V users yet.
I doubt that they are actually still investigating if our devices are compatible with KitKat. More likely, they are already working on the new firmware and dont want anyone to know because then they would get thousands of messages about ETA and that stuff.
Sony cant just leave us alone with a more or less working 4.3 as the last update.
In Japan they have this law that they can only keep a appliance, gadgets or cars for a certain period of time and if they want it to keep it for a longer time they have to pay a higher tax. Maybe Sony apply that principle of this law to our devices
